Beeping issues, won't turn on. - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've have had the phone for 2 years and it had been working fine until last summer, where I had accidentally left it in my trunks pocket when I went out swimming, It had to be underwater for like 10 minutes or so before I realized it, thankfully, we were on holiday in Turkey at the time so I could leave the phone (without a lid or battery) on the balcony for days to dry. And eventually, it worked! But that came with a few issues.
1. The phone would shut off randomly.
2. Had to charge the phone to power it on.
3. The camera had a few dark spots where water got in.
4. When the phone was powered off it would constantly start beeping, the same beep you hear when I power it on.
5. Speakers are weak.
Nowadays, I am pretty sure all the water is out of the phone, and I am only having these issues now.
1. The camera had dark spots.
2. Speakers are weak.
But yesterday, things were getting weird, when I closed the phone (close the phone, not power it off), and I try to open it again, it would not open and would randomly make a beep sound, then the buttons on the bottom would light up, the only thing I can do to make it normal was removing the battery, when I did that I tried putting the battery back in, and it is back to making those beeping sounds I mentioned on point 4. So I tried charging the phone to power it on, and it still didn't do anything! I found the only way to power the phone on was charging it without the battery then waiting like an hour for the 'charging' sign to come up allowing me to power the phone and insert the battery back in. But it still won't open when the phone is closed (again, closed, not powered off).
What should I do?

Water got in. Deep. And the fact that it was not disassembled and let to dry made it worse. Water could have still been inside. And the fact that you still used it didn't help either. Time for a new device.

The thing is, everything works, It's just the hard procedure of powering it on. But yeah, I might as well leave it on forever with certain apps until its time is up. FPBP to you sir.

You could certainly replace the speakers and camera, but I for one have no idea what the heck is happening with the weird sleep issue (yes, closing the phone=putting your pc into sleep or hibernate). I say it could be a power button failure, but if you could order a new frame off of ebay and replace it, see if the issue is still here. And that's not a beep, that's a tune you hear when the phone powers on. Or the vibration? Please clarify.

Slightest knock turns phone off

I have an O2 XDA Mini S which has been working pretty well up until recently when I kept noticing that whenever I got my phone out of my pocket, it had turned off even though it was in a locked state - thus meaning I hadn't inadvertently pressed the power switch.
At first I assumed it was a problem with the battery but I have just noticed that as I dropped my phone onto the desk it turned off. I have just repeated this half a dozen times and every time I drop it onto my desk from around 6" the phone turns off. If I knock the side of the phone with my knuckle it will also turn off.
The battery is fully charged and the contacts all look good and clean. What is the most likely suspect part for me to start twiddling with to try and overcome this problem?

HTC Touch help, cant turn on phone

hey guys i need a little help, everything was working fine and then i turned the phone off and then turned the phone back on. All it did was go to the screen smart mobility and then shuts back down. Any clues ?? i just cant turn it on anymore.
i have the same problem
I turn on with a new rom my elfin and now does not turn un
Make sure your battery is fully charged. Try turning it on plugged in. Try using a different battery if you have one - If you don't have another battery and the one you have is old, it may need replacing. Turning on and then shutting off sounds like battery problems to me
I have another HTC Touch with a very similar problem. I think mine is due to minor water damage though (water balloon hit my pocket, unlucky huh?). It's been dead for about 4 months. It "MIGHT" turn on after a few weeks leaving it alone, then reach Smart Mobility screen and then turn off... permanently for a few weeks.
When I normally try to turn it on, I can hear a distinctive high-pitched noise coming out of the back, it'll stay like that until I rip the battery out.
Every few weeks I hope to get it booted long enough to maybe flash a new ROM, or IPL/SPL. I don't know what to do with it. Maybe some boot file or the hard drive corrupted due to the water damage. No light, no response from other batteries, no light via USB cable, just a slight high pitched noise. To this day, it is still dead.

Anybody else had this?

Pushed the power button this morning and no response, thought the battery had run right down, so plugged it in and it booted to the dell screen then froze, removed battery and replaced it, booted no problems at all, still 60% battery left
Once, I think it's because the device has flexed or got jolted at some point and the backplate contacts have come apart briefly. The only way to get it to switch on was to remove the battery and refit it.
I've had this too, but not after a jolt or flex - noticed it after waking up on a morning - Streak had been on bedside table with good charge.
I've had this maybe twice since having the device.
edit to add:
The only difference is my device did not freeze on boot.
yep - every time i power it down and leave it for a bit, it will only fire up again if I take the back off, pop the battery out and put it back in.
The LEDs come on, but it goes no further unless I do the above. Annoying but I can live with it for now (not sure what the wear and tear issues could be over the life of the device tho?)
did it on 1.6, still does it on O2 2.1
That's what's i was thinking, that stupid backplate! it may have moved 1mm and caused error
I posted a comment once about supergluing the fu%$er, might try myself.
Yep, sadly had the same problem. The worse thing is it did this the first time I turned it on. Done the same thing again this morning after simply switching it off.
Hopefully it won't be annoying or we will learn how to avoid it - backplate seems to cause the problem but I didn't even drop it or mishandle it in anyway - just merely switched it off and on again...
If the backplate is the problem, I can see it becoming a real issue, mine is definitely a looser fit than it was a month ago.
This just happened to me this morning. I went to bed around 2am with 90% charge and woke up 8am off on totally drained. The phone was lying on the carpeted floor with no movement. Powered back up and on with icons all messed up.
had this couple of times day, not the first by a long shot. its the back plate for sure. it flexes just a tiny bit and thats enough to make it shut down. pretty shoddy design
I really don't see how it could be the cover. Second day in a row I went from full charge to dead when I woke. It was on the floor the whole time and never touched. Then I charged it and the screen would not respond. So I hit power and then it would not come on again until I pulled the battery. Now, I'm just going to try powering down every night. If it's dead I just leave it at home for the day.....such a waste.

[Q] Fixed (not blinking) red light after changing battery

Hi everyone,
a friend of mine's Nexus 4 has this strange behavior.
It went into water for about 1 second: unfortunately, she was working far from home and needed to keep the phone on for working reasons, I know and told her that the best would have been to switch it off and put in a bag of rice.
In any case, after few minutes where she was not able to listen to the people speaking, and the same on the other side (she was not listened), she kept the phone in a pocket and under the sun, and suddenly everything went fine: probably some water in the audio jack made the phone think the earplugs were plugged, and then this was fixed.
In the rest of the day everything was working, and we thought that, thanks to the hot day and the phone under the sun, the humidity has dried up.
At night when she came back home, she switched the phone off and put in the rice for the night.
The day after, she tried to switch the phone on, and nothing happend.
Screen black, no signals.
After reading something on the internet, she plugged the charger, and kept power+volume down buttons pushed: after some time, the red light appears, just one fast blink and then dark again.
So, we ordered a replacement battery (I have already substituted a Nexus 4 battery of another friend of mine), which arrived yesterday. I proceeded with the substitution, everything went fine (and I noticed that the internal water detectors are still perfect white, only the one in the sim tray is pink), but when I plugged the usb charger, again nothing happened. This time, holding power+volume down made the red light appear and stay solid, no blinking, no disappearing, until I unplug the phone, at that moment it disappears.
I let her charge the phone for the whole night, but still the same issue this morning.
What can the problem be?
It sounds strange to me that at first the phone worked and then it stopped at the first switch off (and I think that she powered off and on the phone right after the incident, and was still working) :-\
And I'm not able to understand the red light behavior...can someone help please?
Many many thanks :-[

[Q] S5 balck screen after dropped in water (Phone seem to start)

Hi All,
I dropped my Samsung s5 (rooted) phone in water.
Before it went submerged(not more than couple of seconds) it hit the side of the sink.
I quickly took it out and looked for visible signs of broken screen or any other part. But there were no new marks, I wiped it clean, turned it off, took the battery out and looked for any water, but nowhere I could see any water inside or outside.
I then turned on the phone, It turned on all the way to homes screen , I entered pin and could view regular home tab, then I think after few seconds, screen went black. I turned it off and tried it on again but it never came back. Once in between in all of my attempts of turn off and restart, it showed battery and yellow triangle on top of battery sign.
I have tried to search and it seems like lots of people ended up with similar symptoms in their phone, but none of the solutions suggested have worked for me.
What I have tried is:
1. Leave phone submerged in a pot of uncooked rice for couple of nights
2. Take out battery and press power button for x number of seconds (starting from 10 to onwards of 2 minutes)
3. leave batter out and then try to restart (again time was variable from few minutes to several hours)
4. Soft hit on power button,
5. I might have overlooked writing a solution here but I wonder if there is any that was suggested that I have not tried.
Initially when this happened, I connected it to charging cable and red light would start blinking(where as it should stay solid red while being charged).
Anyways, now phone screen is dark. I can use adb shell to view the content on the phone which means OS is till intact and I am 100% sure that phone is working as intended. As the notification lights blink when I get an email if phone is on etc.
Its an expansive phone and hope some one can shed light on how to revive the dead screen?
Thanks
Sorry to hear that! It really sucks. Was the charging port loose or opened when dropped in the sink?
I know the blinking red light, instead of the solid red light, when charger is connected indicates a problem with charging. This can be caused when there is little water in or around the charging board or the motherboard and charger is connected.
If you don't see any signs of water damage (pink/red indicators instead of white), i'd say back up all your files and everything else through ADB, wipe the phone clean, in case you find somewhere to service or in case it gets worse and you can't access your files any more.
Chat with a Samsung rep online too, and see what your options are. Sometimes they repair it for ~$70, off warranty, and with that they might even swap the motherboard and other pieces too if needed and you only paid 70 or whatever they offer.
Thanks for reply, now charging port was shut...and after couple of days now charging happens ok, I have a solid green light when I connect charger.
So I am guessing you are thinking that either screen is gone or something else and therefore no possible way to fix this?
