Wipe battery stats made it worse

I followed directions on what I thought to be a battery fix, but it ended up making my battery life twice as bad. Actually it takes longer to charge now than it does to drain.
Anyone else have this happen?

I did the same thing, but I've only charged once and I didn't time it. I haven't been timing any of my charges or discharges, but maybe give it some more time, that's kind of how stats work isn't it....usage over time? Good luck.

Today I started at 100% (not a powered off full charge though). After 2 hours of moderate use I was down to 50%. I have been charging for an hour via car charger and currently at 67%.

Not to be a dink, but then it would appear that you didn't follow the instructions. As a result, YMMV I guess.
1. You will need to charge the phone to 100% (while the phone is off).
2. Leave charging cable plugged in.
3. Boot into recovery and wipe the battery stats (should be under Advanced).
4. Then boot into Android.
5. Then remove the charging cable.

Give it another shot, and I would suggest that maybe it not be thought of as a "fix". Try using the wall charger as well. I only use the wall charger as I have a converter in my vehicles. Let us know how it goes!

Those are actually the directions that I followed yesterday afternoon. I didn't notice the battery life being any different after doing that initially. At the end of the day I charged my phone via wall charger for roughly 8 hours while I slept.
I was unplugged for less than two hours and watched it drop down 50%. Wifi was off, Gps also off. I was doing some web browsing and also using the xda app. I played a game for a couple of minutes.. That was it. I really should've checked the battery usage but I didn't think of it in time.
I only charged it in the car today out of necessity because of the super quick discharge. When I'm at home I only charge with the wall charger.

I'd venture a guess that you have something else running the background. I honestly wish that I had something more for you, but I'm going to have to fold.

I've heard others say they found facebook or twitter running in the background and that when they killed that it made a big difference in battery life. Perhaps that?

WiFi set to never turn off
I noticed this morning that WiFi had been set to never sleep, I just changed that t 15 min.
Had a full 100% charge last night did not leave on the charger, minimal use this morning down to 78%.
Let's see how the new WiFi settings works.

that doesn't do anything unless you leave wifi on all the time, and if you do then that would be one solution to this problem.

I experienced the exact same issue after doing the battery thing yesterday. Tried several different kernals since then - no change: I could just about watch the battery go down. This morning I wiped and loaded SR Sense 2.5.2 and the updated stock kernal from ROM manager. We'll see how it goes...

I did this and just installed 2.5.2. I then installed the Hydra kernel and wiped battery stats when I was at 100% and the unit was off/green light. The battery has gone to crap too. Any ideas?

thats weird, i did wipe battery stats (correctly) at 11 last night. i woke up at 9:30 (lol) with 93% battery left. the phone was sleeping the whole time, but i had sync turned on and had recieved several facebook updates, txts, and emails. now im losing around 10%battery every two hours or so, and i am using the phone to send txts and emails every three to five minutes. so battery life is actually much better. after the cable is unplugged, is it necessary to let the battery die fully, then charge, or can i charge it now? (its at around 30%)

so basically, i was wondering if it is necessary to run your battery fully down after doing a wipe battery stats

I don't know what to tell you guys. Since wiping stats, my phone has been up for 36 consecutive hours with an awake time of 2:40 and the battery is at 30%.

Great question. Anyone have any knowledge on this? I didn't let mine discharge all the way.
I do have some kind of update. I had to do a factory wipe today and since I did that my battery life has been much better.

It's completely impossible for wiping your battery stats to make your battery life worse. It's a common misconception that by wiping your battery stats you somehow condition your battery. It's actually quite the opposite, because you're actually conditioning Android by wiping your stats. No matter what your battery percentage or meter says, your battery is still capable of holding a certain amount of electrical charge and your phone will not die until it's fully discharged. On the other hand it *might* make your percentage or battery meter read wrong if you either:
a. wiped your battery stats without a full bump charge (e.g. wiping your stats at 60% charge *might* make your phone think 60%=100% and as a result, you'd see huge decreases. but, you would most likely sit there with a phone showing a 1% charge for hours after it got there.)
b: didn't allow your phone to discharge fully after wiping your stats (same problem as example a, but the inverse of it)
All wiping your battery stats does is delete the file "batterystats.bin" from your /data/system folder. This file is recreated when you boot your phone after wiping them. It keeps the data on what's using your battery for when you click "battery use" in the settings menu. It's also thought to hold the stats that tell you phone what a full charge and no charge feels like and that if you fully bump charge your phone, wipe that battery stats, and then full discharge your phone (without interrupting it by switching ROMs or doing updates) that you will have a more accurate battery meter. It won't eliminate the need to bump charge your phone or make your battery life better. It will just be perceived as better since you won't get 20% drops in your reading in 30 minutes due to a badly calibrated batterystats.bin file. Also, you'll feel better because instead of looking at a 50% reading, you'll be looking at 60%.
Your battery still has the same capacity, charges to the same level, and discharges in the same amount of time. The only thing that can change those things are usage levels.

so should i redo my wipe battery stats then? when i originally did it, i ran it down to around 40%, then rebooted, then i plugged it in around 15%. would this mess it up then?

Do you know how we can see what's inside the actual batterystats.bin file? I tried in root explorer and cannot open in no matter how I try.

i dont care what vantagejuan says, when i tried this process...and did it correctly, my battery was down to 85% within an hour..i know this because i unplugged it when i woke up for work, and i when i clocked in, it was at 85%
it was never this bad, i tried locating the file again from an old backup, but it didnt help...im hoping that like someone else said, a couple cycles through it will get better
im using the skyraider 2.5.2 vanilla with the hydra oc/uv kernal
i had this setup before AND after trying the battery fix and im using the seidio 1750...
frustrations are back from when i first got the phone

The regular option on the phone doesn't do a great job of troubleshooting this issue and just says "Display" and "Cell standby" as the relative battery use culprits. I figure, though, that this must be something I downloaded that is killing the battery. I love the ROM overall, but if this battery issue can't be resolved, I need to find something else quick. I'm a slave to a charge port.

Have you tried conditioned your battery by wiping your battery stats.bin? Why didn't you flash the newest Trigger?

Yeah, you need multiple cycles for battery to be even close to accurate, and you should recalibrate.
Are you using other kernels or themes?

Let your phone die wipe battery stats in recovery mode. charge to 100% then use the battery calibration app from the market and re-calibrate the battery. I always repeat the process. Sometimes when flashing new ROMs your batterystats.bin can get a little funky so I always do this after flashing a ROM and my battery works great.
Definitely check the Kernel and Modem your running if there not the ones that came with Trigger than that could be causing your problem as well.

From what i have got from prior experiences. Using odin to go to stock as if your phone just came out of the box and then flashing removes all the old files. When i did this i went from getting almost 10 hours... now my phone gets 17 normal and if i dont use it as much as a normal day it iwll hit 24 hours no problem.

And why didn't I flash the newest version? It was when I flashed it.

What was the use in the 40 minutes after charge? I could see that if you had screen brightness high, and lots of wifi surfing or video use. I downloaded an app called 'screen filter' and it lets me lower the brightness lower than stock and I have noticed significant battery length increase since use. The stock dim options are not enough. Its still too bright and a waste of battery.

Both. I wipe mine at 0 and at 100 but once you wipe make sure you fully charge without interuption and vice-versa

same here, and i suggest you do the charging during night when your sleeping, so then there'll be no interruptions, like having to reboot for some odd reason etc. That can disturb the process of recalibration/conditioning.

Pretty much nothing... Maybe looked at Facebook once and replied to a text?

So I drained it, wiped the battery stats, then looked at what it was doing - probably 1 minute after it was totally dead and wiped. The screen said it was at 14% already.
In less than a minute - 14%...

Let it die again and wipe again. Your stats are off from the flash its normal. Just let completely die wipe charge wipe repeat. It will take a couple times normally to get back 100% right

I used to chage my battery overnight with good results but since going to gingerbread it usually drops from 90-100% whne unplugging. was reading up and found out it's saftey feature created by Sammy.

[Q] Suddenly Poor Battery

My dad's Droid 2's battery life just took a nose dive about a week ago. He is running the rooted stock 2.2 rom, few widgets on the home screen, no task killing, and he hasn't gotten any apps in the last month (I don't think he knows how). Did his battery just die (unusable, not no capactity) or is there anything I can try?

What I would do, is tell him to get the battery to where the phone wont turn on anymore, its COMPLETELY DEAD. Plug it into the wall until its 100 percent, then drain it down to about 10 percent, then plug it into the wall again. After another complete charge, it should be good again. Its called reconditioning the battery. I do it about once a month.

I've heard a lot that Lithium-Ion batteries shouldn't be conditioned too often, because they only have so many charge cycles. I'm not expert though. (Don't let this keep you from trying what boogerburns suggested. I could work for you. I'm just stating that Lith-Ion batteries don't like to be drained a lot)
Anyways, the battery could have gotten a bad cell. You can check the battery condition by opening the dialer, and hitting *#*#4636#*#*
This will bring up a menu, and you can choose battery info (or something along those lines) If battery condition is anything but "good" then he'll probably need a bad battery.

Well, now it's at a point where the battery is dead in only a few hours, so he's "conditioning" his battery once every few hours.

I did check on the battery condition somewhere, and it was "good". However, I was wondering if there's a way to check uptime/awake time on the D2. My Inc had bad battery once, and I knew it was a lemon since the uptime was far more than awake time. I'm afraid that a rogue update is sucking my dad's battery.
How can I check my uptime and awake time?

Use the code I posted earlier, and this time select battery history. Select "partial wake" and see if anything is keeping your phone awake. Also look at network usage and see if anything is using that too much.
Alternately, you can download an app called Spareparts from the market (free) and you can get this information more quickly.

Odd battery metering issue?

This is curious. It's been this way for about a day or so. No actual battery life issues that I can tell. No heat or performance issues. Battery calibration?
T-mobile rooted and my only mod is AdAway.
Other than this issue, all is normal.
Thoughts?

Someone else reported something like this in another topic. I can't remember what type of V20 they had. My thought was that the battery was bad.

I'm almost 100% certain that it's a calibration issue. 100% software. There were similar issues in a Samsung 6.0.1 ROM as well. Bad battery would be never reporting as "FULL" to the OS. Fortunately, even if it's a bad battery, thank jebus for replaceable battery!
One of the things I'm trying was to pull the battery, hold the power button down to discharge any capacitors in the charging or power circuits and then replaced the battery. Now it shows 89% and charging as well as "collecting battery info... please wait.". I'll let you know if it breaks 94%. I think the calibration was off after going a full day of constant usage but plugged in (drove 10 hours while using Waze).

Definitely a calibration issue. The above method had the predicted effect. Fully charged at 100% again. Spread the word. FYI, I held the power button for a good 30 seconds with no battery in the phone and obviously unplugged.

Well, you see, at first I thought it was a bad battery, but last night, my battery began acting funny. It was at something like 40% and then I did 1 reboot and then battery was at 25%. Then I had to reboot again, and battery was suddenly at 18% and stayed that way for a long time. I decided to try the calibration thing and it may have solved some of my battery issues (I did a few other things too, so not sure exactly what helped). I was always told that battery calibration was no longer necessary. Something about the way that Android reads the voltage of the phone rather than the capacity now... Or something... I forget the technical mumbo jumbo. Anyways, that's one reason I always had been telling people that calibration is just a placebo and that their battery may just be bad. Now I'm not too sure what to think!

Note 4 Battery Problems

I got a Note 4 a few days ago and it has battery issues.
I got it second hand online from a guy I don't know. I'm from Romania, I think the phone is from the UK, it's Verizon branded. The model is SM-N910V and the Android version is 6.0.1. It's not rooted. I noticed this V version isn't very common.
The battery that came with it was pretty poor, it would drain in a few hours with minimal usage and the worst problem is the phone would suddenly shut down at about 30-35% battery life. Then it would go into a booting loop, without being able to actually boot until I plugged it in.
I bought a new genuine battery from a popular online store here (F64), battery life is better, but still with just wifi, it went to 50% in about 2 hours of browsing. Without wifi or data (very little), it lasted for a day and a half. But the phone suddenly shut down at 8% battery life, again going into a booting loop, without being able to actually boot until I plugged it in. I'd also like to mention, when the new battery came, it only had 4% battery life left (I heard they should come about half charged, is that true?) and also there were a few reviews from people who had to try multiple batteries from this store until they got lucky with a good one. Both the old and the new batteries look identical, I don't see any signs of counterfeit.
Should I return the battery and try a new one? Is there a chance there's something wrong with the device itself?

Return the battery.
The seller store the battery in a very poor way.
Lithium should be kept at around 40% charged if you store it for a long time (more than 1 month)
I have 5 batteries with me, 3 of them are considered broken (70 - 60% left)
The last 2 are still in very good condition, around 98 - 99%
About your device, you will need around a few days of charge cycle with a good battery.

Thanks for your answer. I didn't know batteries for this phone are so problematic.
I just charged it to 100% slowly from my PC, will use it normally and see how much the battery lasts and if it shuts down again. As I went through forums, some people say I need to do battery calibration. If it's still bad, I'll return it.

Try to get a battery direct from Samsung. Failing that buy a PowerBear or Anker. Do a factory reset and calibrate your battery by fully charging it, then running it down to 0% (if it shuts down, keep turning back on until it won't turn on). Then charge fully back to 100% again - DO NOT USE FAST CHARGE.

I will look for a store somewhere. I don't think I can find those two brands here.
I did a factory reset when I bought it a few days ago, but that was with the old battery. Will do the factory reset after I drain it to 0% later today.
I don't have a 'fast charge' charger, and I have it disabled in settings.

I just charged it to 100% slowly from my PC, will use it normally and see how much the battery lasts and if it shuts down again. As I went through forums, some people say I need to do battery calibration. If it's still bad, I'll return it.

What I said before is for all phone that uses Lithium Battery.
Lithium Battery must be kept in a storage at around 40 - 80% charged & must avoid hot places if you don't use it for a long time.
Draining Lithium Battery to 0% will deteriorate the battery faster so it's a big NO.
Calibration is done on the phone not the battery.
Delete "batterystats.bin" to calibrate the battery gauge.
Calibration is useless if the battery is bad (you received it at 0% it means that the storage condition is bad thus the battery is bad.
Charging from PC is a BIG NO as USB port on PC only provide around 500mAh & usually it's unstable.
The charging rate is too low & it could deteriorate the battery faster too.
And the last....I think factory reset doesn't necessary reset the batterystats.bin, so you have to delete it manually if you are rooted or follow this link if you are not rooted.

I had a similar problems, and I have received my new battery yesterday which has been charged in 51% so I drained it to 1%-0% without unexpected shutting downs, I have charged it again and so far it seems to be ok

Hi, I didn't return the new battery after all, I think it 'calibrated' itself after the first charge. Also it goes from 100% to 1% and shuts down properly now.
I did two tests on full battery:
- barely using it, no wifi, data etc, just a few short calls (probably 30 mins of OST) and it lasted almost 6 days
- stress test, wifi and data on, gps with maps and waze on, maximum brightness and and a very long youtube video playing constantly (screen on) and it lasted about 5 hours and 30 mins
In normal use it lasts me about 2 days, but it slightly worries me that if I keep mobile data on all the time it only lasts until the end of the first day.
Would this be considered a good battery life for the Note4?
