Battery drains faster than it should

Hello there,
I would really like some advice - my battery is draining like water. I'm quite convinced it is the regulation of the unit; I bought a 2400mAh battery replacement and it lasted ages on first go, but then my G1 started draining stupidly fast after I'd recharged it. This also happens on the stock battery too (buy even quicker!). I'm convinced it is the regulation because a) I've never had battery problems previously and b) the battery meter starts at about 26% when I plug it it in (after the phone shuts off from it being dead and I then plug in the charger).
I actually have a bricked G1 that still charges batteries, so I thought I'd do an overnight charge on the battery that way, to 'remind' the other G1 what a 100% battery is like, but that didn't seem to work either.
Can someone help? Is this a known problem? I would really appreciate any advice.

GPS doesn't really drain battery unless it's actively being used...at least not on my phone.
You can also try disabling 3G if you're not in a 3G area. It will keep trying to find a 3G signal, which really drains battery.
For the record, I have a stock battery that I get ~13-16 hours on from a single charge... my backlight is at 40%, GPS is always on, and I use wifi whenever I want to surf the web and am near an open network.
OP...if your battery is lasting you only a couple of hours, then I'd try to reflash your ROM. Might help...

Wow 13 to 16, I am lucky if I get 6 with 30% backlight, and wi-fi and gps off, I have always gotten that on ever rom even stock with no widgets, you are one of the very few with good battery life cause I have seen many complaints about short battery ranges

Yeah, that's on a normal, moderate usage day. If I use it heavily, with a lot of wifi and web browsing, then I'll get around 10.
Maybe your battery needs to be replaced... could just be old and not holding a charge properly.

It's 2 months old, has done it from day one, I also have another battery that does it too that I kept from a previously brick g1, so one 3 phones, all the same battery life but then I use it quite heavily, always browsing on the web since my computer burned out

Thanks for the suggestions, but it's not a wifi/3g/brightness etc problem - I've had a G1 for six months, I know exactly how much power should be consumed. It's also not the battery; I have two stock batteries and a brand new 2400mAh battery, which for the first few charges lasted about 2 - 2.5 days and was brilliant (as it should be), but now doesn't last all that long.
I may have made the situation slightly better however - I did a Nandroid backup, wiped to factory (well, Cyanogen 4.0.4 anyway) and booted into that. I then restored the backup and when I plugged back in to the charger, the meter was at 85%, and seemed to take a normal amount of time to charge (and not jump to 100%). It remains to be seen if the problem is solved, I've yet to have the battery drain (this is a good sign though) an plug in the charger to see if it will jump from 0 to 25 or not.
I'll re-post when I know.

run the battery down until the phone shuts off without plugging it in.
charge the battery while the phone is off over night
do this 3-5 times and see if you get any improvement.
also remember some of the cheap 2400 batts from ebay and such claim 2400 but that is from 3.5V to 3.0V. The G1 considers 3.2V to be dead so you only get from 3.5V to 3.2V which sucks.

I'm with gridlock on this one. My batteries suck. It always needs a mid day charge. And to the poster that said to reflash a rom, that is bad advice. There is known issues with getting poor performance out of these batteries. I have 2 and both do the same. Got the second one from complaining to t-mo about how bad it sucks.

Reflashing seems to have worked...the 2400mAh battery seems a lot better now, it lasted nearly two days (it runs at 3.7v, according to my battery diagnostic), I've only just recharged it last night. When I plug it in, it charges normally and linearly now, instead of jumping straight to 25%.
So my advice, if anyone is having similar problems to me, would be to try a reflash.

Note 4 N910C - Extended Battery Calibration Issue

Hello everyone.
(Please excuse my lengthy post, I had a lot of details to share. Thanks!)
So I recently bought N910C from a guy in Dubai, who gave me an extended 8500mah battery along with it, and claimed that it would last me 3 days easily (though later he claimed that it runs a day on full use, and 2 days no mild usage. Also claimed that standard 3220mah battery lasts less than 6 hours) but 8500mah would take around 6 hours to charge (it takes me 1.5 max, does 1% in a minute, with quick charger). I was however instructed to calibrate the battery properly, which I did, twice, tried the manual (draining and full charging) method, and also tried two apps: Battery Calibration and Battery HD.
Facts:
After buying, I flashed marshmallow stock rom for N910C and rooted with CF-Autoroot.
I have been using its own fast charger throughout, not the standard charger.
Here is the problem:
Before rooting and changing the rom, the battery was barely lasting and would shut down when around 30%. So I rooted the phone and did the calibration (manual+Battery calibration app), but the battery timing remained the same, or maybe increased slightly. The good thing was that it did not shut down at 30% and went down to 1%, where it stuck for good 15 minutes (with me browsing the net).
After I recharged it, I tried Battery HD app, which ran tests and gave me the following figures of battery usage:
30 minutes on internet: 5%
30 minutes on video: 6%
30 minutes on music: 2%
After this process, the battery again collapsed in its 30s%. I tried the battery calibration method again, but no luck now, battery collapses in its 30s. The guy who I purchased it from keeps sharing the snapshot and claims it was working fine before.
Now my questions:
I read some guides, including topics on XDA that suggested that Exynos drains more than snapdragon. So should I try to make a switch to a variant of note 4 with snapdragon, or would that make no major difference?
Is this battery faulty and I should change it? the Seller claims that he had to come on to an extended battery cause the standard was ****, so I shouldn't try and get another, it would be a waste.
What could be the problem if the battery falls in 30s% even after calibration, with exception to that one time?
Also, when it collapses in its 30s and I put it to charge, the screen shows "charging at 45%", why is that?
Lastly, I read here on xda that zerolemon extended batteries require the standard charger as the quick charger would give **** time and would charge them quickly. Will that apply to me as well? Although my battery isn't zerolemon, it's some unknown brand. And it seemingly charges quite quickly with the regular charger as well (when the phone is turned off).
He claimed that it should take my phone 6 hours to charge, it takes me barely 1.5 hours even on the extended battery, is there something I am doing wrong?
If you went through all of what I wrote, thank you for being so patient! So now, do I have any hope with this phone or should I just sell it off and maybe get an AT&T or T-mobile variant?

p.s. you signature, lol I have the same three phones with the same status, except that my G3 (which is also white) is in a coma and G2 is up for grabs.

Phone shut off at 32% and only charged 7% in 1h30m with fast charge

I work 8 hour shifts and my 6P on Pure Nexus lasts through the shift with ~30% when I get home.
I was listening to music through Bluetooth and when I turned off my headset around 5 hours into my shift, my phone shut off and wouldn't turn on. I was in and out of the freezer, so I thought it was the cold. I got home, turned it on and plugged it in and saw it had 32% left.
An 1h30m of charging and it only charged 7% which is really unusual and is the first time.
I have AccuBattery Pro and it is saying it's going to take 10 more hours to fully charge using fast charge. Android lockscreen says "Charging rapidly. 12 hours until full."
Also in AccuBattery, although my design capacity for the battery is 3450 mah, it normally says estimated capacity is 2200, but is now saying I have over 5000 mah in capacity.
When unplugged, it has a screen on discharge rate of 50-70%/h when the average is 23%/h.
Is the battery dying? I thought it would gradually decrease in capacity and not suddenly change overnight.

When my battery bug hit..it just hit. No warning signs or anything. I was crapping out anywhere from 60%-10% and everywhere in between. I bit the bullet and RMAed for a new battery (they gave me a new screen too for whatever reason) Before i sent it in my Accubattery stats were saying i was at 75% capacity and now ive been at 100% capacity since i got it back and i can happily go from 100%-0% like its supposed to.
Although your situation does sound unique its almost certain you'll need a battery replacement.. or try a new ROM and see if it keeps happening.

Unfortunately, I got my phone from Rogers around November 2015. I don't even know what they can do about it. It's been averaging about 14%/h charging which is about 1/3 the speed. I've been using the same ROM for several weeks with no issues and haven't installed anything new lately other than app updates. I can try upgrading Pure Nexus, but it seems like they have a power menu bug at the moment.

Do you think your charger could be broken?

My wife has a 6P also. I was trying her charger and it's the same thing. I've rebooted twice. It's still draining at least about twice the normal average when disconnected.
So it's roughly draining at about twice the normal speed without doing anything and charging at a third the normal speed.
I seriously can't afford to replace it. I regret choosing a phone without replaceable batteries and will not do that again, which means no Pixel phones. At least I still have my Galaxy Note 3 which still works.

if i were you id backup the entire phone (or whatever is importannt to you) to my computer and download the J factory image and do a fresh clean flash and pray that it clears out whatever is going on. Sucks to start fresh, but worth a shot

I use FolderSync to backup my phone nightly to my NAS server.
The slow charging speed may be due to high cpu temperature. It was hovering around 40° for whatever reason. I set it down on a cold granite window sill and the temperature dropped to 35° and was charging at twice the speed, but still slower (1000mah vs 1550mah from before). I've been holding it for a while and the temperature is again going back up with charge speed slowing. Again, I've never had this happen before.
Thanks again, I'll probably restore the phone and bring it to Rogers later this week to see what they say.

Question in regard to degrading 6p battery

Hello to all,
I just purchased a brand new Nexus 6p that was purchased about two years ago directly from Google. The individual bought it but never even opened up the box so the phone has never been used or even turned on until four days ago when I got it. My question is this. Even though it's still a brand new 6p can the battery still degrade even though it has never been used before? My first thought would be no because the battery has never been used meaning no wear and tear to the battery even though it's just been sitting there unopened for two yesrs but then I got to debating this with myself and I just don't know the clear answer. Should I be okay in terms of the degrading battery issue since my battery has never been used before? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Battery degradation occurs through it's lifetime of charging cycles due to heat (and chemical changes within the battery). Since your device has not been subject to this, it should be like new. Note there are literally thousands of N6P users who have never experienced battery degradation (or bootlooping). We have 3 in our family and none have been affected. I suggest you just let the phone charge and discharge normally a few times before you start forming any judgement on your battery life or SOT. Install Accubattery and check the battery health after several deep charges. After several full charge cycles, Accubattery will estimate the capacity of your battery vs. a new one (3450 mAh). Enjoy your new 6P. It has been a great phone so far (knock wood).

I appreciate the clarification on that. I wasn't sure when the degrading process started on a battery was. I love you this phone. In fact it's my second time owning it and by far it's my all time favorite Android phone I've ever used. I'm glad to know my battery should act as new and I should be okay from the battery issues. I appreciate you explaining in detail to me about what to do and how to check my battery life. I'll download that app now.

Okay I just downloaded accubattey. Now once I charge it for a while I will get results about the health of my battery. What do I need to look for that's tells me it's good? Any tips on using the app. So indeed I never should charge past 80 percent? I always have charged to 100 percent so that's going to take some getting used to. Also I don't need to let it drop below 20 percent? Thanks again for your help on this. This is all new to me as I've never had to guard against a bad battery before nor have I ever had one. I hope my new 6p will be okay. So far it's seemed to have kept a good charge but I'd of course like to see it do a little better being that it has a 3450amp battery inside. There have been a couple times of times where it seemed to eat up battery life quickly but I found out I had some apps running in the background such as YouTube once where it consumed 77 percent of the battery overnight once but I have since fixed that. It hasn't happened again so I'm good there. Anyways just curious to know what I need to be looking for on the app. Thanks a lot!!

I've always charged my battery to 100% and will continue . I leave it on the charger at the office and home, all night long 24/7. When I leave the house I want to know it is 100%. One thing to note is that you should not take the phone off the charger until the APP tells you it is charged, not the phone itself. You will see current flowing into the battery sometimes 45 minutes to an hour after the phone says 100%. That, and let the phone drain down to below 20% first in order to get an accurate charge measurement. After that you look on the health tab for the estimated capacity. It will be provided in both mAh and percentage. Quick Start guide here.

So you actually charge your battery to 100 percent. I guess I will do the same since I'm used to doing it that way plus I want that extra 20 percent charge. This seems like a really good app. I appreciate you guys on giving me the heads up on it. I downloaded it to both of my devices which my daily driver is the axon 7 mini. That battery isn't the best so maybe this app will help me tweak that battery into keeping a longer charge. I like a smaller device to be my daily driver although for right now my 6p is my daily driver just bc it's new but after a couple weeks I'll swap back over to my axon 7 mini as my daily driver

Yeah, I disable that 80% charge alarm first thing. Accubattery is just a tool and it's just giving you an estimate so don't rely solely on it. I will say that after a few full charges it converges to one percentage value and for me that has been enough confidence that my battery is not in a degrading trend (so far). There are a few Accubattery haters out there but it's been a solid tool for me. Enough so to buy the Pro version. Good luck to you.

Much appreciated! Yeah I think I'm going to be fine in regard to my battery. I mean it's brand new so there has been no usage of the battery until as of about three days ago. I'm super excited to have gotten this unbelievable deal I got on my 6p. Never in a million years was I expecting it either. I got in touch with this guy by chance. There was never any intent on getting a brand new Nexus 6p for 150 dollars but by the end of our conversation that's what he offered me. Just a very generous guy.

When the phone shuts down an anything above 20%, your battery needs replacement. Period.
Look at it this way: if your battery has let's say 12 cells, when 7 cells die, it will charge to 100% faster, because there is less to charge, but will also discharge or shut down faster, because the remaining cells can't hold the load. It will still show 40%, but because you don't have enough cells, the phone shuts down. If the battery apps show 1300ma capacity, that means you have lost almost 2/3 of the battery cells.
By the way, all battery calibration does is it resets battery stats, which is done anyway each time the battery is fully charged. So, any calibration app is useless (since Android 5 or 6, when Google introduced battery stats reset.

this i understand, what i don't is the fact its sudden even now accubattery says 500 mah . phone now shuts at any number basically its a 15 min phone, pretty sure battery doesn't gets destroyed like this. does oneplus got any issues with QC 3 chargers? because that's what I'm using.
ill be trying a unbrick way or just flash to 9 just to double check.

Once you phone starts to shut down at 40%, from there it's a short road to death. In a week or so, it won't boot at all.
Don't do unbrick on an almost dead battery, as you might permanently damage your phone, if the battery dies in the middle of unbrick flashing. Mobile phones, unlike laptops, work from battery only. The function of the charger is to charge only, not to provide power to work.

now it wont do auto ota for some reason but im going with you and not upgrading it locally to 9.
just used it non stop for 1 hour on youtube and it went from 30 to 18 in 1 hour and shutdowns.
thou now it charges from 1% lets see how it works, if it goes through half a day ill try to sell it instead of replacing battery.
somehow i don't think it will be re-glued perfectly with these third party workers here.

Oneplus 5s actually have 2 screws that hold the back. So, it's more durable than glue only.
Years ago, I had Sony Xperia with expiring battery: it was pain until I replaced the battery.

My problem is they don't glue properly or doesn't use good glue and that leaves lot of space around from where water drops can easily get inside.
I like to clean phone with wet hands / soap and than dry with towel.
Don't like greasy phone.

So finally I managed to get my battery replaced and as feared now have nice bump dent kinda thing near sim tray.
Other problem now left is how to re-enable OTA updates.

Apparently oneplus were having issues on ota server's.
Received OTA and boy think I'm back to a new oneplus 5.

Lol. Never replace battery unless you know it is swelling or if it runs out on the last 15-20 faster than the last 5%.
Also, if you ever face issues, instead of calibration, delete the batterystat.bin file, and 2 reboot twice in a gap of 10 minutes. Then check 2 battery cycles, 1st at 0% and power down, and the 2nd at 1-2%, and you will know if battery is the issue or not.

Lol. Never replace battery unless you know it is swelling or if it runs out on the last 15-20 faster than the last 5%.
Also, if you ever face issues, instead of calibration, delete the batterystat.bin file, and 2 reboot twice in a gap of 10 minutes. Then check 2 battery cycles, 1st at 0% and power down, and the 2nd at 1-2%, and you will know if battery is the issue or not.

boy i have checked or tried everything before this. basically i was in denial that i need a battery change.
