I just sold a spare Fascinate that I had to one of the guys that runs http://www.mydroidworld.com/ He has a leaked copy of the official samsung gingerbread build for the fascinate. He needed a fascinate to test it on. He told me that he will test it tonight and post all his info on his site tomorrow. Keep an eye for it. If I get any more info I will post.
I believe this with every fiber of my being. I'm banking it all on this being real. Going for broke! (vegas odds)

we will see what comes of this....i mean i could say there is a unicorn in my pocket when in reality its 32 cents in change.
hoping for the best tho
It was my girlfriends phone. She likes her iphone better so I tried to get what I could for this. He ended up paying 175, I wanted 200 originally.
Sounds like he was trying to get a better deal.

is that p3droid? He said he was looking for a fascinate.. He was hoping to only pay 100. I volunteered to test but I guess he decided to buy a phone. I used his stuff on my droid x. Very smart dev. I hope this works out in our favor. TBH would be good to have supporting the fascinate.

I don't mean to sound negative with this statement. But even if this does actually happen, I just have this strange inclination that this leak will have absolutely no benefit or bearing on the development of CM7 or GB MIUI or anything else that our devs are cooking up. Official froyo brought nothing as far as added functionality to the roms of that time and I just don't see a GB leak doing it either. Samsung's proprietary code SUCKS so bad that we can't hardly do anything with it. Even if it's a fully functioning GB leak, it will be TouchWiz. I mean at best we are looking at some custom TouchWiz GB roms. I would rather have AOSP froyo than GB TouchWiz. I just don't want us to set ourselves up for disappointment. Anything we get out of this leak will probably be a couple steps behind where we already are.

How is that a bad thing? For people like me who need everything to work (MMS, etc), our ROM choices are already all TouchWiz-based. So I'd much rather have fully-functional, debloated TouchWiz GB ROMs (a la KB/EF) than no fully-functional GB at all.
It seems to me you're basically saying that because any official GB leak would be TouchWiz, it's worthless, which simply isn't true. A lot of us would be very happy with a Gingerbread KB or EF.

Just my opinion. I hate touchwiz and after tasting CM7/MIUI and other AOSP goodness, it is pure suffering to go back to touchwiz. All I am saying is this doesn't excite me. We are trying to cut the cord of dependance from samsung/verizon for support by getting official support from Teamhacksung and Cyanogenmod and this leak probably won't help in the advancement of that. That is why I am not excited, but maybe and happily, I'll be proven wrong.

I am one of them. I would prefer the TW GB over AOSP roms.
Yea, sorry, I'm with kidserious. If I had a choice between AOSP now and TouchWiz, I would never go back to TouchWiz unless MMS never became functional on AOSP. I'm just loving my phone's performance... knowing how Sammy did TW Froyo just makes me leery of any GB they have going on.
I have more faith in the devs here than I do in Samsung.

But that's my point -- some of us need MMS to work now, not just potentially in the future, so we don't have a choice yet. If we're stuck with TouchWiz, it would at least be nice to have the latest version of the OS, whether or not it helps AOSP developement.

well said and a very good point. TW is an atrocity. I understand the functionality argument and the need for it in the workplace but IMO TouchWiz itself, even fully functional, isn't functional because it's trash. I think anyone who has spent a halfway decent amount of time on AOSP and can stand a few things that don't work would agree with me. But again this is just my opinion and I don't mean to offend anyone. I'm not trying to get the next generation updated touchwiz, I'm hoping to do away with TW altogether with official Cyanogenmod/Teamhacksung support. I mean, with fully functioning AOSP, who would want/need TW?
The question I have is whether or not it is TW4. I'd give it a chance if it was. Still I'd ditch it for MIUI or CM7 once they are functional.

A majority of us would jump ship for an AOSP 2.2 over TW 2.3. Plus in the end as soon as it drops there will be countless threads about Ice Cream Sandwich and when it is coming.
Most casual users are just concerned with what is shiny and new, evidence is in every UKB release.
I agree with Kid, in the end it is still going to be TW and the hype machine should not take this with to much hope.
I totally agree about cutting down on unrealistic hype, so let me ask this:
What, specifically, are the end-user (not developer) differences between running the latest Voodoo'd version of UKB and the latest version of jt's CM7 that lead you to say that a TouchWiz-based rom like UKB is a nonfunctional piece of trash?
It's been a while since anything even slightly official has come out since XWJW1 and JVU didn't seem official or very tempting at all. Is this it? Have we reached the Omega?
And if not, any clues as to when a new one will be coming out? Hearsay is welcome.

For once I am happy that Samsung is not releasing ICS! This means I get a vanilla OS from the wonderful community here!
I don't seem to be using TouchWiz for that many things! And if at there are things that I use, I am sure to find alternatives for all of those in the Market!
So I get the ICS "new look" and all the goodies with it - without the old UI!!! It's amazing!
Oh so why should anyone buy galaxy s2 with official very limited and faulty software development ? i think i will put on hold upgrading and wait for googles motorola with amoled
devs in here are making crap as always, doing stuff that they like - when something is crashing and something else is working 1% faster, ICS is pretty much funny and flashy compared to touch wizz which is to get the job done easier and faster

Yes, the SGS is EOL as far as Samsung software is concerned. Luckily this community is big enough to get past this.
We already have a few stable enough AOSP ICS roms and a port of S2's official ICS in the works, so there is still life left.

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this so feel free to move it to the correct place if wrong.
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300T and have been using various Roms since I got the phone. In that time I have come to really like the Galaxy Nexus Vanilla Jelly Bean over the Touchwiz loader and am hoping that we will be able to get the full Jellybean experience without Touchwiz.
Will they still try and improve the Vanilla 4.1.1 or will they only concentrate on the Touchwiz version of jelly bean when it is released officially?
I have used the latest leak from the 28/8/12 I9300XXDLH8 (4.1.1) and I have found how much the Vanilla Jelly Bean is better for me. Is there anything that is stopping a 100% functional version of Jelly Bean (Same as the Galaxy Nexus) running on the Galaxy S3 or will it be only variations of the Touchwiz version?
There are only really little issues with the Vanilla ROM on the Galaxy S3 (Such as the memory leak, wifi tethering and the camera being part broken) so I am hoping these can be fixed as I really enjoy the OS the way it was supposed to be.
In that regard what is the best ROM at the moment that is using vanilla Jelly Bean?
Thanks
Matt

Touchwiz is a modified version of Jellybean Android 4.1..Nexus JB which you are talking about is pure undiluted version of Android 4.1..hence it will be impossible to merge the 2..you can get a few features ported from one to another but a not good, stable hybrid as both of them use different framework..so either use CM10 or TW or a customized version of either of the 2...
Hope it clarifies...
Also I cannot comment on the best ROM as it is banned..try them out for yourself..read the OP and choose the one you like..
If u want the vanilla look and feel, get cyanogen mod 9 for a stable rom and 10 for that jelly bean feel but still in nightlies stages.
With the update coming, we are all subject to getting touchwhiz as samsung as spent many hours tweaking it. I like it once I got use to it but everyone has opinions and thats why we love Android

It is not so much the looks I really hate the Messaging App and the Dialer in Touchwiz and prefer the Jellybean version of it. I have seen that you can get the Android 4.1 Messaging App of the Play Store but I have not been able to get the dialer & contacts from the Jellybean Rom which I guess is the biggest part of what I want it for.
Those few changes and I believe I would be really happy with the Touchwiz version.

Thanks for the tip, it has the dialer I like coupled with the SMS/MMS App from Jelly Bean. I appreciate being pointed in the right direction!
It amazes me how No Android phone maker will listen to its customers and make an option to install vanilla android.
If someone bought Samsung Hardware and sold it as Vanilla they would make a fortune.
As usual big business knows better than its customers

Nexus is vanilla android. But people keep thinking Nexus phone is Google phone, not Samsung. This is something OEM doesn't want it to happen on their flagship phones.

Stuck on Gummy... ...
So I rooted my SGS2 so I could get ICS and the JB.
With the Nexus 4 one doesn't get that benefit so I'm thinking I may not install a custom ROM.

Not right away, but more than likely I will eventually.
100%. It's the whole point in getting a Nexus device for me.
I bought an S3 and was expecting awesome dev support, having come from a S1. The lack of Exynos documentation kills any sort of chance of good AOSP based roms for that device. S3 is now sold
Stock android is great but things like lack of T9 dialling and lack of quick toggles bug the hell out of me.
Of course. Have the last version of android is only one of the things you get with a nexus. Have the last version with a lot of addons is better. Read what aokp offer.

same for me! i have a One S and i'm tiered of waiting for a stable aosp rom
I hope some of the manufacturer skins get ported over. I honestly enjoy Sense every once in a while, and that skin LG has on the Optimus G looks pretty sweet. But I really love vanilla android and always end up running AOSP for the most part. And MIUI, big MIUI fan.
Cm10 will be available within a week or two for the n4. Perhaps even sooner than that. Android 4.2 is not a huge update. I remember when 4.1 went live, it was incorporated within a week or so. That's what I expect for cm10. Even aokp and all aosp ROMs. That's how I see it

This. I am genuinely looking forward to giving MIUI a go again! I used to love it on the S1.
With the Quad S4, I highly doubt we'll actually even see a visual difference. It'll be a placebo effect for most people.
I'm half-tempted to just run full stock since I'm getting tired of the custom ROM scene. Kernels are ok though sometimes.
I'm willing to flash a ROM but I from flashing so many ROMs on my GNex I realized that the ROM doesn't add much improvement. To notice any improvement you're gonna want to flash a kernel instead. Roms just as features, but for the real gain in battery and speed you flash the kernel. So I'm gonna wait for Franco or Morfic to get their hands on the N4 and crackflash their kernels lol.
I never felt the need to install a custom ROM on my N7, so probably not, there's not a whole lot of improvements that can be made when the N4 is already 100% pure Android, as most of the custom ROM's I've dealt with on other phones are basically trying to make it 99% pure Android. Not to mention if you get the 8GB model, performing backups will be a pain.
I like the custom ROMs, mainly cm10, because of the quick toggles, weather on lock screen, etc. A lot of tweaks are made, just like aokp, which is another good ROM. Also, apps are also tweaked, like adding iso or a timer in the camera app. A lot of good tweaks are added with custom ROMs
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 4G
On my old captivate (which was running 2.1-2.3) had roms running on it left, right and centre. But once I got the gnex and ics I didnt feel a need for roms anymore as well as with jelly bean. So I probably wouldnt be using roms on the N4 either.
I don't think I will be installing a custom rom on the N4. I like the stock look which is why I rooted my Droid Incredible and flashed CM on it. Seeing as most of the stuff I use in CM 7.2 has been incorporated into the later versions of Android is another reason I probably won't flash a custom rom unless a really useful feature is added that I would want.
The first thing I'm gonna do when I get my N4 is root and flash a battery mod. :silly: I'm still kinda annoyed Google hasn't added this.
With my Infuse, I rooted and added a custom ROM because I was sick of what Samsung added to the phone. I might just keep this phone stock for a while, and enjoy the updates as they come in. I like some of the features some ROMs offered, like Paranoid, but I'll just see how everything goes stock.
Maybe not the first week or two. But after that there will be some awesome stuff. Plus I'll prolly make one for myself like I always do.
Definitely looking towards custom kernels and UV and OC scripts.
AOSP or AOKP will be flashed ASAP!

I dont think we will ever get CM on 9500. Without sources from Samsung make coding for the exynos chipset is to freakin hard. Maybe we will get CM on the 9505. But in generall, CM team have lost their trust in Samsung devices. So we will see if we get CM on this device or not.
Question one
Why do we need aosp on s4 or even htc one?what advantage does it holds compared to the goodies of samsung rom?
Btw it's always good to have an option to choose from.

The runs faster argument is invalid with new gen phones and roms. The ui is sleek though and we can get the pure aosp look with aosp like themes.
I agree with the galore of themes available but again if Google adds theming support in their next iteration as mentioned in the rumor mill then it's going to be tough again.

Steve Kondik just stated that cyanogenmod will be supporting the S4.

may be GT-I9505
i9505 will most likely get support. It shouldn't be any harder to port than the HTC One.

The runs faster argument is invalid with new gen phones and roms. The ui is sleek though and we can get the pure aosp look with aosp like themes.
I agree with the galore of themes available but again if Google adds theming support in their next iteration as mentioned in the rumor mill then it's going to be tough again.

Maybe I'm just experiencing a placebo effect but personally I feel that touchwiz on S4 has a slight lag.
As for theming, that falls to Samsung to add support for that. HTC had a couple of themes for the Sensation back in Sense 3.0
I think there's would make a big difference.

Its not booring at all. It got more costomization than the stock one. It. Simplefaster, better looking, runs more fluid, update came faster. Better contact and sms App. The aosp browser is also faster.
So I realy hope we will get CM on 9505. And pls dont ask why we need CM. They have done a amazing work, and gave us a choice beetween heavy bloated stock firmware or pure android butter smooth experience.
