I dont think we will ever get CM on 9500. Without sources from Samsung make coding for the exynos chipset is to freakin hard. Maybe we will get CM on the 9505. But in generall, CM team have lost their trust in Samsung devices. So we will see if we get CM on this device or not.

Question one
Why do we need aosp on s4 or even htc one?what advantage does it holds compared to the goodies of samsung rom?
Btw it's always good to have an option to choose from.

It seems we might be getting CM after all:

CM10 send to run faster and smoother than touchwiz.
Plus they have tons of themes in the market
Those are some of the main reasons I want CM10 on my devices.

The runs faster argument is invalid with new gen phones and roms. The ui is sleek though and we can get the pure aosp look with aosp like themes.
I agree with the galore of themes available but again if Google adds theming support in their next iteration as mentioned in the rumor mill then it's going to be tough again.

i9505 will most likely get support. It shouldn't be any harder to port than the HTC One.

Maybe I'm just experiencing a placebo effect but personally I feel that touchwiz on S4 has a slight lag.
As for theming, that falls to Samsung to add support for that. HTC had a couple of themes for the Sensation back in Sense 3.0
I think there's would make a big difference.

Its not booring at all. It got more costomization than the stock one. It. Simplefaster, better looking, runs more fluid, update came faster. Better contact and sms App. The aosp browser is also faster.
So I realy hope we will get CM on 9505. And pls dont ask why we need CM. They have done a amazing work, and gave us a choice beetween heavy bloated stock firmware or pure android butter smooth experience.

A very cool move on Samsung's part. It seems like recently they truly understood how the Android community works.
Wat makes cynomod better than the original samsung firmware eeally? Is it coz its jus rooted and has a better theme? Can someone clarify this please?

I am not a big fan of cyanogen (well I wasn't when I was using htc' sense, not a big fan of TW) but I see it as a big step towards the community (if atinm really is just a cyanogen developer) and as a steppingstone to many different mods and custom roms once CM is up and running, I am also very pleased they releases sources early and chose as much as possible open hardware

It depends if you like touchwiz cyanogen probably sucks for you, I love HTC's sense and was never interested in running CM roms (I ran one for 15 minutes and quickly reflashed a sense rom)1 but if you don't care about these vendor customizations you can get roms without all the bloat.
For me the good thing is the galaxy sense team use CM as their base, so hopefully this means a quicker port of sense to the sgs2 too
I suppose this will bring wiimote functionality too?

That would be a AOSP rom, there is a work in progress build in the dev section right now.
CM7 is close to aosp, better most would say.

CM is based on AOSP or vanilla android. However it is pretty heavily modded and has a slew of features such as lock screen gestures, modding of system apps to include additional settings, support for additional file types etc. It's a nice ROM for sure but there are no guarantees it will be 'Faster'. Touchwiz 4.0 hardware accelerates some system apps such as the browser and homescreens/application drawer so a stock S2 may still feel 'Faster'.
Edit: As the above poster said, a pure stock ROM like the Nexus 1/S is in progress in the dev section, CM is far from vanilla android; an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others
This team just opened a thread in the dev section. Let's hope they will do some good work!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
It's not just the CM7 rom that's important
Slew of other custom roms such as miui are based on CM7. This will open the flood gate to modding hopefully
FYI AFAIK (yay acronyms) Samsung gave 1 SGS2 to each big CM7 contributor of CM7 for SGS, so "again AFAIK" 4 SGS2.
Which is pretty much an awesome move IMO

XWJW1 Last official release for Galaxy S?

It's been a while since anything even slightly official has come out since XWJW1 and JVU didn't seem official or very tempting at all. Is this it? Have we reached the Omega?
And if not, any clues as to when a new one will be coming out? Hearsay is welcome.
For the record, I think xwjw1 is great (stock odex with semaphore 2.5.0bm and the blue boaffa mods), I just want to know if there is anything to look forward to.

Yes, ICS, forget about Samsung's official stance on releasing it for the SGS, the devs here are doing an awesome some and ICS Slim, is fast, sleek and so far, I've had no problems with it.

For once I am happy that Samsung is not releasing ICS! This means I get a vanilla OS from the wonderful community here!
I don't seem to be using TouchWiz for that many things! And if at there are things that I use, I am sure to find alternatives for all of those in the Market!
So I get the ICS "new look" and all the goodies with it - without the old UI!!! It's amazing!
Oh so why should anyone buy galaxy s2 with official very limited and faulty software development ? i think i will put on hold upgrading and wait for googles motorola with amoled
devs in here are making crap as always, doing stuff that they like - when something is crashing and something else is working 1% faster, ICS is pretty much funny and flashy compared to touch wizz which is to get the job done easier and faster

Yes, the SGS is EOL as far as Samsung software is concerned. Luckily this community is big enough to get past this.
We already have a few stable enough AOSP ICS roms and a port of S2's official ICS in the works, so there is still life left.

Galaxy SII ICS (Android 4.0.3) released. Galaxy Note next???

I just saw this on SamMobile firmware page:
GT-I9100 - I9100XXLPJ - Android 4.0.3 - 2012 February - I9100OXALPJ - Open Europe
See: sammobile.com/firmware
It's starting??? Finally????
Not sure if it's helpful for us for the N7000, i suppose that a few drivers are in common, but it lacks the system UI and SPen. The stock frequencies are also differents.
Futur 'll us
so what about note??
Does it support switching to a normal Android 4.0 Holo launcher??
What it really means is that now they can start working full time for us, so the leaks should start dropping again... I hope

Why would you ever think you were going to get a pure ICS?
Well will this be usefull for development. Becuase they have to release sources and Gnote is almost similar to SgS2.....
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Well, touchwiz it is still better than pure ics who can't even make folders in the drawer.
I have a nexus and I still using go launcher, the contact section it is a skin, the functions are the same.
But if you want stock ics wait some weeks for a rom
It seems that Samsung is currently deploying ICS in Asia and Europe, the ICS release for Note is going to follow.
Hope this will help devs to release custom ROMs without this crappy Touchwiz
I see where ICS for the SGS2 released by sammy has already been rooted.
The first few "official" releases should have numerous exploits that allow for
root without too much trouble.
I'll just be glad to get root back. I screwed up on the last update and did it
from Kies and lost root and don't want to jump through the hoops of downgrading,
wiping etc just to get root back, knowing the ICS update will probably wipe it all out again anyway.

Touchwiz is Samung's way of branding their Android devices. If every manufacturer included stock Android in their phones, what would be the incentive to get one particular device over another, especially if the hardware of all high end devices from all manufacturers is almost identical? Unfortunately, if you want the stock Android experience you'll have to get a Nexus, or flash a stock rom built from the ICS source code. Can't have your cake and eat it too I guess..

Galaxy Nexus 4.1.1 on Galaxy S3

Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this so feel free to move it to the correct place if wrong.
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300T and have been using various Roms since I got the phone. In that time I have come to really like the Galaxy Nexus Vanilla Jelly Bean over the Touchwiz loader and am hoping that we will be able to get the full Jellybean experience without Touchwiz.
Will they still try and improve the Vanilla 4.1.1 or will they only concentrate on the Touchwiz version of jelly bean when it is released officially?
I have used the latest leak from the 28/8/12 I9300XXDLH8 (4.1.1) and I have found how much the Vanilla Jelly Bean is better for me. Is there anything that is stopping a 100% functional version of Jelly Bean (Same as the Galaxy Nexus) running on the Galaxy S3 or will it be only variations of the Touchwiz version?
There are only really little issues with the Vanilla ROM on the Galaxy S3 (Such as the memory leak, wifi tethering and the camera being part broken) so I am hoping these can be fixed as I really enjoy the OS the way it was supposed to be.
In that regard what is the best ROM at the moment that is using vanilla Jelly Bean?
Thanks
Matt
"what is the best rom" threads are usually thrashed here so good luck. There is no best ROM mate, try all AOSP/CM/AOKP roms and see which is better for you

Touchwiz is a modified version of Jellybean Android 4.1..Nexus JB which you are talking about is pure undiluted version of Android 4.1..hence it will be impossible to merge the 2..you can get a few features ported from one to another but a not good, stable hybrid as both of them use different framework..so either use CM10 or TW or a customized version of either of the 2...
Hope it clarifies...
Also I cannot comment on the best ROM as it is banned..try them out for yourself..read the OP and choose the one you like..
If u want the vanilla look and feel, get cyanogen mod 9 for a stable rom and 10 for that jelly bean feel but still in nightlies stages.
With the update coming, we are all subject to getting touchwhiz as samsung as spent many hours tweaking it. I like it once I got use to it but everyone has opinions and thats why we love Android

It is not so much the looks I really hate the Messaging App and the Dialer in Touchwiz and prefer the Jellybean version of it. I have seen that you can get the Android 4.1 Messaging App of the Play Store but I have not been able to get the dialer & contacts from the Jellybean Rom which I guess is the biggest part of what I want it for.
Those few changes and I believe I would be really happy with the Touchwiz version.

Thanks for the tip, it has the dialer I like coupled with the SMS/MMS App from Jelly Bean. I appreciate being pointed in the right direction!
It amazes me how No Android phone maker will listen to its customers and make an option to install vanilla android.
If someone bought Samsung Hardware and sold it as Vanilla they would make a fortune.
As usual big business knows better than its customers

Nexus is vanilla android. But people keep thinking Nexus phone is Google phone, not Samsung. This is something OEM doesn't want it to happen on their flagship phones.

I'm not that excited. I think it's great for this device's development, but I personally prefer the battery life and stability that the stock rom gives us. The official 4.3 will suffice for me until I upgrade to a different phone.

I'm not that excited. I think it's great for this device's development, but I personally prefer the battery life and stability that the stock rom gives us. The official 4.3 will suffice for me until I upgrade to a different phone.

I found the device to be more stable using Cyanogenmod. I also get better battery life. But when 4.3 comes out I will probably go back to stock.

I agree, stock seems to give better battery life and i will also go to 4.3 but for a while... i might revert back
the only thing i didnt like about touchwiz was that it just lagged all the time
4.4 may still come to the s3 it can run on devices with 512 mb ram so hopefully something happens here

In terms of battery life: CM 10.1.3>Stock>CM 10.2

Not for me. 10.2 > 10.1.x
(Only on slimbean.. dont know why.. i miss halo though)
samsung most probably wont officially update the s3 to 4.4 because by the time 4.4 is out for samsung devices, s3 will be out of the 18 months update window provided by samsung.
the hardware wont be at fault over here though.
we may be ditched just like galaxy nexus is ditched for 4.4 kitkat.
not letting you guys down, just telling a possibility.
peace..
"Sedan tidigare har en Samsung-representant bekräftat att fjolårets Galaxy S3 och Note 2 ska uppdateras till Android 4.4."
Several Swedish sites confirms that Samsung will roll out 4.4 to S3, btw i cant link it but Google it

I've got this feeling also. I think I will stay on 4.3, though 4.4 might just make it even better.

I don't care about TouchWiz
Right now CM10.2 works really well (no thanks to Samsung) and I hope the devs will do the same with 4.4

I believe it was said before that Knox would be coming to the S3 in the form of Android 4.4 (as well as the Note 2)...

?? touchwiz? who said anything about touchwiz?
he's talking about the binary blobs of the mali driver. CM needs that too, for smooth animations and the like.
That's the reason why CM 10.2 has laggy animations and CM 10.1.3 doesn't. Same reason for Omni.
We have 4.2 blobs, but not for 4.3.
Exynos
So.. I'm sure the community will release a 4.4 ROM sooner or later but depending on the community rather than Samsung i think that a broad community is necessary to get good results. I was used to a great developer community delivering great ROMs and options for my Samsung Captivate but now i see that somewhat diminished in i9300 because of the Exynos code being closed to devs. Camera being faulty, animations being laggy, etc.
I'm wondering that maybe its time to move from my gs3 to some other device with a Snapdragon maybe and an active dev community. I'm not a dev but I really enjoy their work. Which device do you think its currently one that promises good dev activity? Am I right to think snapdragon is a better choice? In that case, could a, say ATT GS4 with Snapdragon, be a better option?
Thank you!
Nexus 5, i9505 or xperia z1
