ICS is freaking awsome !!

i just wanted to say thanks to the folks at TEAMHACKSUNG . ive been running ICS on my galaxy s since yesterday. so far it is very nice . not quite as fast as cm7 but well worth the upgrade. known issues says gps doesnt work but mine is working fine with acurracy to 10 meters. thank you very much guys ! i couldnt post this in the development thread cause im a new poster.

I'm running beta1 of onecosmic and crew version, and I must agree : ICS on SGS is just plain great, and probably for most users usable as a daily rom, depending on your exact needs.
The look and feeel is really awesome, but many older apps feel clunky now !
Now if only Samsung could get there act together and offer to all SGS owner an official port .....

first betas afaik should be at start of december - so quite soon.

give ICS a try! running for a few days in my i9000B with minor issues only. You should have some experiencie with flashing before even consider to try

ICS is quite astonishing, however its port for SGS is still in early BETA development stage so newbies should wait for the final release as it naturally suffers from some bugs. Devs are doing a great job and hopefully ICS project on SGS will be finished quickly... maybe it's going to be a Christmas present

Yeah, it is quite awesome. I think I can't go back I use gingerbread anymore.

I tried the ICS port for about 3 days, it running pretty smooth for a BETA, but... I came back to CM7.
I don't really see any advantages of the ICS compared to GB. The menus looks a bit fancier than GB, but I can't see any other advantages. Some apps don't work because they are not optimized for ICS, like facebook sync and some other apps. It still lags more than CM7 (for now). And I really like the toggles on the status bar on CM7, I cannot have them on the ICS port.
What do you guys like so much about ICS that you can't have on CM7??

ICS is the bigest android makeover so far and to say is not that different than GB is big understatement . I've been using android since Cupcake and ICS is the bigest change so far. And I,m loving it.

I love ICS as well, but there are many features of touchwiz that I find necessary, like the toggles in the notification bar.

I've been resisting it, but all the good things I keep reading about these ICS ports, I think I might have a go!

then when ICS is close to being perfect (like official release version) i will make the switcharoooooo.

I have tried alpha6 version but i was missing FM radio so I switched back to official rom. I am seriously missing smart dialing in ICS. Is it possible to port it to ICS??

Not sure if it's helpful for us for the N7000, i suppose that a few drivers are in common, but it lacks the system UI and SPen. The stock frequencies are also differents.

Why would you ever think you were going to get a pure ICS?

Well will this be usefull for development. Becuase they have to release sources and Gnote is almost similar to SgS2.....

Well, touchwiz it is still better than pure ics who can't even make folders in the drawer.
I have a nexus and I still using go launcher, the contact section it is a skin, the functions are the same.
But if you want stock ics wait some weeks for a rom

It seems that Samsung is currently deploying ICS in Asia and Europe, the ICS release for Note is going to follow.
Hope this will help devs to release custom ROMs without this crappy Touchwiz

I see where ICS for the SGS2 released by sammy has already been rooted.
The first few "official" releases should have numerous exploits that allow for
root without too much trouble.
I'll just be glad to get root back. I screwed up on the last update and did it
from Kies and lost root and don't want to jump through the hoops of downgrading,
wiping etc just to get root back, knowing the ICS update will probably wipe it all out again anyway.

You mean the same way as the current software on the note is called GingerBread? Would you be shocked to know that you are not getting the stock gingerbread experience?

I don't give a f--- what is the real stock gingerbread looks like.... all I am saying and lot of people out there who updated this ICS yesterday wish the user interface is the same as the one in the galaxy nexus... Lot of galaxy note users and few developers are creating custom rom that looks similar to the pure ICS .
So... what i am writing here is in my right and I don[t need to hear all this crap saying why would you want this update looks like pure ICS...
so if you guys have nothing better to do than complain about my thought then... go on have a good wank...... for f--- sake!!!

Touchwiz is Samung's way of branding their Android devices. If every manufacturer included stock Android in their phones, what would be the incentive to get one particular device over another, especially if the hardware of all high end devices from all manufacturers is almost identical? Unfortunately, if you want the stock Android experience you'll have to get a Nexus, or flash a stock rom built from the ICS source code. Can't have your cake and eat it too I guess..

News regarding our beloved SGS1

Hey all, tried searching the forum to make sure this already wasnt posted up, and found nothing, so here it goes!
While doing some homework on the latest official ICS release for the SGS2, came across a thread somebody linked up in the SGS2 forums regarding the new firmware release, with that was some new info on new firmware to come for the SGS1 and other devices by months end! Looks like this could be that "Value Pack" that was leaked/talked about some months back. Although not ICS, at least Samsung still have the First gen galaxy still in mind - Check the link from their Facebook page! Apologies if this is already posted up somewhere, if not, go nuts peeps and start getting excited i guess

Wonder if it will be enough for people to switch back from the various custom roms, doubt it though. I'm happy with MIUI until phone upgrade time comes around.

Not in this case.... If they do the same as with the ICS of SGS2, (but without ICS, just their crapy mod) you better look for a good custom ICS or enjoy gingerbread for the rest of you life...! Seriously, aosp ICSSGS works tremendously, you can consider it almost as stock ROM, and forget about Samsung and their ****...

Not to mention some carriers like Bell here in Canada are unlikely to push another update. Pretty sure they will leave it with the crappy 2.3.3 rom.
It may be interesting to see what they come up with but I doubt it will compare to ICS ports like ICSSGS. The big question will be lag and UI jerkiness: ICSSGS has almost none, it's night and day compare to any of the 2.1-2.3.x Samsung roms I've run.

It's probably just referring to the official release of the JVU value pack.

I can almost guarantee there wont be an update for carrier branded variants around the globe, just too much work for them in their eyes to deliver updates when they can sell something new an updated, and continue with the same cycle! Just look at the US, all the variants for each carrier and pretty much no love which has to suck! Whereas this news relates to unbranded handsets, which gets looked after just fine IMHO. Ok, updates arent always flying through but who really cares, as long as it works! I have an unlocked i9000 (euro version) and am now on the official JW1 (via kies) and have not had a single problem what so ever! But ill take whatever update that comes. If it keeps my SGS kicking till the S3 arrives, then im happy. Just good to hear Samsung is taking this stuff seriously. Again may not be ICS but still good on them for doing something. People can keep blaming Samsung for lack of updates, but most that do that are on branded handsets and should be hounding their carriers for an update!

really, 2.3.3? That's insulting! Could they pick any worse firmware to stick to? Anyway, carrier policy it's always hilarious... Why on earth has the galaxy mini better firmware than the galaxy S? (I know the answer, rhetorical question!)

Anyway, I don't think those customers will care at all... Cause if they cared, they wouldn't hesitate to flash any custom... I just think this value pack is useless whatsoever.

Hello everyone. The time has come. Today Samsung announced their new flagship device GT i9300 A.K.A. Galaxy S3. Now, if you are a big fan of pure AOSP and his aftermarket distributions like I am you certainly already know that ICS based CyanogenMod 9 is out there and running and its pure fresh blazing awesomeness. I'm not entirely sure I will want to put a vanilla or CM on this phone right away... the stock Touchwiz ROM seems to have a lot of nice features.. Unless these can be incorporated into a ROM that is based on CM9 or what-have-you I think I will try running a stock Touchwiz ROM with root access.. I have never used Touchwiz but even if I had I couldn't definitively say I won't like this because it's new to everyone.

Actually, while the Galaxy S3 will have many great features, they're all software-based. And after looking deeply, there's nothing that prevents us from adding these nice features to an AOSP ROM, for instance CyanogenMod 9.
Hence why, Galaxy S3, once running CyanogenMod 9, will profit from a community effort started recently to bring manufacturers' features to all CM9-enabled devices. This can include actions triggered by motion, and other features so-called "natural".
You can find out more details at http://opendesign.blamesamsung.org/. Details on specific features, as well as the ability for everyone to request this kind of features, will be available on May 10th.
I can only thank once more people that will help Team Hacksung and CyanogenMod getting a Galaxy S III, to help all CyanogenMod 9 devices.

So true, this was an inspired moment We will give you more details soon. I'm pretty sure you will all like it. But we will need more peeps to help. This won't be done by xplodwild alone. this is a community work. Once done, this will revolution the world of mobile and of every CM9 maintained phone. xplodwild linked the website, it's still under developement, but you learn soon what it is .
And to answer CoNsPiRiSiZe, touchwiz always deceived us. I don't see why it would change now. A proverb says : "You don't have to taste **** to know it taste like ****".

Even if you don't give them one, I'm sure that they will get one themselves as the product will be very popular

Developper are getting tired to work with samsung ****ty community support. Codeworkx already said that he won't buy the device himself.

I doubt it. CM9 developers stands with Nexus as personal device so they wont spend money on other flagships just to make us happy.

Nobody is going to leave SGS2. It is a CM9 supported device and will stand like this. Teamhacksung will continue making it better.

As for the kernel, we were waiting on 3.4 to be "ready". It's now the case, and we started the real work, codeworkx, me, Espjenfo and Entropy all together

Cannot wait to see what u guys have got under your sleeves. My gs2 runs amazingly on cm9 crept for some battery life issues. But thanks a lot for all you've done just for free

I think people should be more about this.
Every Asus tablet that gets JB is one closer to us getting it.
Which is not to say we will get it for sure but obviously the 700,300, and 201 will get it before we do.

Just my opinion but the Infinity is now the current flagship of the Transformers and the 300 was just a stopgap after the 201 fiasco. So sales must be lagging and this JB upgrade is just another gimmick to make the 300 more attractive. A price rollback will be more convincing IMO.

Theres new Asus tablets coming in the near future with Chrome O.S and my understanding is they have more Google tablets coming aswell.
Asus will also be one of the first to launch a Windows8 tablet but the deal is that they have to let Windows unleash their own built devices first for a certain period of time.
If correct then i can only imagine that after Jellybean we may not see much more in the way of O.S upgrades on any of the current Asus range.
(Asus rep was in my work place on Thursday - no mention of JB for Tf101)

Did Asus ever settle on whether or not they were actually going to officially support JB on the tf101? Last I had heard they said only the Prime and newer were getting it officially..

Just got me a TF101. Its running Megatron 1.1.6 with Guevor's 21.5 kernel. I like JB (ran it on my A500) but will wait a little bit longer for the builds to get fully baked.

Is JB really that big of deal? I mean I get it new versions of OS are always good but does it really do much?

On my A500 I did see improved performance between ICS and JB. There is always going to be something newer and better around the corner. At some point a particular device will hit its maximum acceptable performance limit and the availability of new ROMs will come to a halt. Throughout the lifecycle you deal with the tradeoffs. Performance/stability/usability.

JellyBean made everything smoother on my TF with butter.

I have JB 4.1.1 on my Nexus 7, and I don't think it's that much better than ICS. ...But, some people think it's much better.

I like the eye candy of it. The lockscreen really looks neat and it feels much smoother in transitions compared to ICS and Honeycomb. (For me personally)
