Hi everyone. I was happy Nexus user until i got Oneplus One - The flagship Killer. Later after using it for an year, i planned to change my device and i bought a brand new LG G4. I was really happy when i bought it. I didn't make any big research in XDA to learn that it was not able to unlock bootloader. When i found it i started regretting. Specs wise the phone was very powerful but LG G4 had no unlock bootloader makes it **** according to my concern. So after a month or two i bought Nexus 6p and I'm back to that form where i fall in love with Nexus Brand. Now I'm happy. Specs is very powerful comparing to LG G4 and even the camera is also awesome with HDR. But there is no manual mode in camera just like how LG made it. I heard there are lot of apps which allows you to take macro picture using manual mode just like how LG was. So that's it. I'll update regarding the battery life here soon after using the phone for 48 hours. Thank you.

Maybe you should read at xda. My bootloader is unlocked (official supported by LG).
That the nexus phones are nice, we all know.
But The G4 is a pretty awesome phone with a wonderfull cam (if you know how to use it)

Not all G4s are supported by the official bootloader unlock tool.
Only the European H815 is supported. No news on whether other G4s will be supported, especially the SEA and TWN G4.
I didn't say I dunno to use it and I mentioned in my Topic that LG G4 has an awesome cam. If your bootloader is unlocked that doesn't mean all carrier bootloader has unlocked.

Yea you are right.. I think he doesn't know that. All I have been waiting was to enjoy some kernel or some root for marshmallow at least. But what I learnt is it never will happen unless LG release the official unlock bootloader tool. So I made my exit and bought Nexus 6P and I can tell you even this has a good camera too.

Lol. I have had several g4s changing phones as we do here from sgs6 to g4 then to nexus 6p. Everyone is different but I really enjoy lg g4 interface. Most useful feature for me is the double tap to wake and copy paste tray which stores regular text oh and sd card and removable battery. Things which annoy me are the slow focus times for camera indoor situations ! Oversharpening in video capture and rear speaker even if it is loud. Nexus 6p for me was a really frustrating phone missing too many key features oems have added and left pure android playing catch up.

Even I love all that feature.. But my LG G4's motherboard was dead and I had to go to service centre which is 300km away from my home. I traveled and repaired my phone and came back. Thereafter I was bit worried you know. I had only 2 months warranty left. So I sold my LG G4 and happy to take a new Nexus 6P. I don't want a broken phone.

Definitely understand your view.
But that doesn't mean the Nexus 6P wouldn't break.
It is electronics, it could break at any moment....

True but it was fixed in newer hardware, which is likely what you got after repair.
Deserter!
Lol, just kidding, the 6p is a fine device, the G4 too.
For me, the 6p was a little bigger than the G4 , and I prefered the lg because of that.
If the 6p has and SD card slot it would be my device right now. Did not get the S6 because of that reason too.
I've got my G4 where I like it now, rooted, DPI at 540, xposed, and tweekbox. I am on LP but really MM does not give me anything I like. In fact I hate the new DnD notification since I always keep my device in DnD where it only makes sounds for phone calls.
Unlock the boot loader and this would be a perfect device for me for a while.

Provided you don't get another 505 refurb. Each device that goes back for warranty is an expense and they are going to try and mitigate that somewhat.
So the question is how does one ascertain the serial of the replaced board. Preferably without having to disassemble the device ?
Hello everyone, I'm a fairly recent G5 user here, and thought of making a thread dedicated to all G5 users, as well as your personal experiences with the device, any interesting news, and anything else relative to our G5's.
News: (Updated Nov 2, 2016)
Looks like we there is a new exploit floating around known as DirtyCow, which may enable Devs to gain root access in the future. I will add more info here as it becomes available.
Discussion:
How's everyone else's experience with the G5 so far? Is it living up to your expectations? Have you had any major issues with your device?

I actually had an unfortunate brick with my Nexus 6P a couple weeks ago, and ended up going to an LG G5 for its customization, SD card support, removable battery, etc. So far after just a week, I am extremely impressed! Very few issues, and sadly no root for my variant, but all in all, this is a great device!

Best phone so far! I was thinking of getting V20, but got this instead. For $300 more specs weren't much better tbh. No real issues. Can't wait for stable roms, which is close. Which variant do you got?

I have the Canadian variant, H831 I believe. I must agree with you, probably one of the best phones I've had! Though I miss my 6P for the abundance of custom ROMs, this phone is beyond impressive and is definitely underrated.
I do however have random reboot issues here and there, but only while intensive gaming. Amazing battery life to!

That sucks Canadian version don't got root yet I got the Tmobile version thank god lol. The specs on this phone our pretty high. I never had that issue. Which game? I wanna test it. So I can see if my settings would help you. I play the most graphic intense games and have no issues.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Pokémon GO, and Animation Throwdown. I turn off the Game Optimizer because it causes major lag on MCOC.

Will post my results for you in the next few days.
The DirtyCow exploit sounds fairly promising, would love some good ol' fashioned root access for all G5's!
I'm excited! I've had this phone for a few months and the stock works great, but fingers crossed for root!

Could be a while yet. I came from a Nexus 6P to the G5 and the development here is less then half of the 6P's.
All in all the G5 is underrated and has a lot of potential if enough devs have an interest in it. For now, we wait.

Not entirely sure to be honest.
Looks like we will be getting Nougat fairly soon if our carriers ever get their crap together.
I have the unlocked version H850, so it's rootable.
I've been using this phone for nearly 5 months now, i gotta say this device is pretty darn amazing, the camera is stunning, performance is beyond top notch, insanly smooth and fluid, no crashed, reboots lags or stutters, I play a lot on my G5, and none of the issues listed are present on my phone, fantastic graphics and it runs heavy games without a sweat, the G5 is definitely Way better than all the smartphones in 2016

Can some H850's user confirm also if aptX is missing ? http://www.lg.com/us/lg-friends/lg-HBS-1100-Silver-tone-platinum

Nota: I don't own it, but want to know what's in before purchasing...
As mentioned in other threads, the battery life can be really horrible on some handsets.
This seems to be caused by a wakelock that's named "anx_wlock", and information regarding this almost non-existent.
Tried rooting and installing different ROM's, that did not seem to help,
Read on some other forum that allegedly LG said it will be fixed with Nougat, so will just wait and see.

For how long did you tried other roms? Just to let you know, you should give it a several cycles before saying anything about battery life.

For a couple of cycles, and every time there is the same wakelock as mentioned earlier.
I'm on CM 14.1 now (installed this morning) and even though there is way too early to say, I still get the "anx_wlock".
Going to report back in a couple of days.
If I purchase the RS988 variant of the G5, can I flash other ROMs made for the H860 or H830?
Today I learned something : Never buy LG smartphones'. My G3 crashed while I was surfing on facebook and a blue screen appeared, after few seconds, the smartphone turned off and no more sign of life. Tomorrow I will try to repair it with this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...very-guide-t3132359/post65003040#post65003040 . According to what I read on the web, the G2 has the same problems, the G3 suffers from the problem of battery and slow GPS, the G4 and the V20 from reboot ...
Edit
Finally, I succed to repair my G3, by burning the internal memory with a HAIR DRAYER ?
Thank you for your opinion. It helped me a lot.

I'm not the only one to have these problems, many G3 are victims of the blue screen of death and reboots caused by the battery after 6 months of use, the body of the phone that breaks near the micro and the usb port.
The G4 suffers from bootloops.

I respect your opinion Sir. Everyone is entitled to their choices and opinions
But please ....please dont generalise based on just opinions or few out of a larger groups.
Any device will have its ups and downs.
I have used LG devices for a very long time and I am completely convinced that their device is very robust and bricking it requires special (shall I call it special stupid skills ) skills
So. please try to be composed and not to spread negativity.
I dont use LG G3 but I know there are brilliant devs here and people who will swear that their devices are working great.
I am not closing this thread on the account of leaving users opinions but plz avoid spreading confusing conflicting biased opinions
Thanks
TOO BAD for you ... because LG G3 is one of the best smartphones that I used and ENJOYED USING IT in my life .. ps: I never had this problem and I hope you could solve it good luck
Never had one issue or the reboot problem with the battery however I replaced with aftermarket batteries after awhile...have had every Rom installed and used it while not rooted...everything put on ur phone requires reading up on this knowing the knowledge of what's going on to your phone along with adjustments from your own experience...most of what goes wrong is user ERROR. I would suggest you do your homework before blaming LG for your problems although I hope you can resolve them and good luck
I´ve been using LG since the ¨LG Chocolate¨ days I´ve had almost every single ¨G¨ phone you name it (OG1,G2, G Pro, GFlex, G3, GFlex2, G4, V10) even the Nexus devices 4 and 5... And I gotta tell you there´s nothing like the G3. 5 G4s have died outta nowhere and I´ve lost money cause they were out of warranty, plus @bountyman334 stole my last good G4 when I sent it to him for repair. My V10 lasted 3 months and I bought it new from VRZW, that one I sent it to factory and they fixed it with a new motherboard.
But sincerely I ditched LG for Moto again, rocking the Moto X Pure now and loving it (same specs as the G4 only no bootlooping and quite large development community).
But I still love the G3, I´m ordering one as I type, it has a great dev community and its a beast phone!

I agree with you, the G3 is a very good machine, it was the best smartphone of 2014, but reliability is a disaster, I flashed a long time ago Fulmics 6.7 to avoid overheating, I Replaced the battery twice (originals batteries.) My brother has the Xperia Z3 and flash every day roms but the smartphone is still intact.
My friend has a G3 and has reboots after 7 months because of the battery, on the web, lot of users have the same problem.
Well, I am still using a G3 and I really love it. Easy root, good custom roms, XDA community support. I bought a G5 in hope of root and custom ROM support. Mine was not the EU varient since I don't live in europe (mine is South African H850), so I didn't get bootloader unlock. While I was hoping root from XDA community, nothing came so far. Just because of that I'm getting rid of it tomorrow. None of the LG devices got so much xda community support after G3. Locked bootloader is an issue obviously.

I'm blaming LG beacause I'm not the only one who had these issues, I ever had baseband issue with an Xperia SP but It was the only model that had it and sony exchanged it for free. The G4 suffers from bootloops after generally 4 mounths, LG exchenged it for free, but once the warranty ends it will be necessary to pay
Unfortunately, the guide did not help me, I flashed all thepartitions but no sign of life.
never had issues with the phone. soon it'll be 2 years since I have it. I'll probably just buy new battery and skip upgrade for at least a year more...
I think LG G3 is the best phone in 2014, but not as good as the Samsung hardware, many faulty screen machines and resources, so sad.
here's my rant (sorry for broken english in advance)
- awful GPS. I've owned not so much android devices, flagship mainly. I've never faced GPS problems, till G3 =). I thought it's impossible to be a flagship device and have poor GPS. But guys from LG think different.
The problem is both with hardware and software. I know what i'm talking about. I tried to fix it since i have this phone.
Hardware: bad connection between pins on MB and cover. Software: it keeps loosing GPS lock randomly. You can turn gps toggle off and then on again, and will lock almost instantly.
A year ago i was traveling with family miles away from home, i didn't have data plan, may this was a reason.. anyway my G3 started to loose GPS when i was in center of Warsaw. God i was mad.. After that it continue to loose gps till i back to my home region
Even now, when i "fixed" HW problems GPS reception is just poor. I have some ASUS cheap tablet, this thing can lock gps anywhere - on the backseats of a car, in a building even w/o AGPS
Don't tell me that "i don't know what are talking about, my GPS is fine". No it's not, try to google "LG * GPS" where star is anything from G2-G5, V10, V20, nexus 5 - top results will be about poor GPS. This is major LG problem
- Overheating. I don't actually understand how it's possible to have such kind of issues in 2014. This is LG - one of the biggest phones manufacture, right? Don't they have quality control department or something like that ? I have only one explanation for myself is they just don't care.
Under heavy load phone heats up almost immediately. The problem is that phone becomes laggy at these moments, also you can't adjust brightness to 100% (because it's hot), and you can't charge it more than ~80%. And when you using it , for example, as a navigation on a dashboard... well, you have to stop using it, because it's charging, heating by a sunlight, heating up by it's display, GPS chip, CPU so display dims to 5%
- The loss of SD card slot. Several months ago my phone started to throw messages "sd card unexpectedly removed". I bought a replacement card - same thing. I don't actually know whether it's HW or SW issue, because it can work for a day or two, but eventually comes to this error. And it's not only me:

https://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/4js10i/sd_card_keeps_ejecting/
- And least. Yesterday my phone started dropping WiFi connection.
Lg g3 - is the most unreliable phone i've ever had
I use my phone much. Navigation, notes, RD client ,tv show watching, lots of stuff. My work and life depends on a phone. If yours’s too - avoid LG phones.
some other thoughts:
>Who's forecing you? Buy an iphone
I don't understand your point. Will it make LG better ? Obviously not.
>Any device will have its ups and downs.
The OP is talking about major issues with this phone. These are not just pros and cons. The fact that other phones are not so great doesn't make G3 better. LG G3 still remains bad phone.
>please dont generalise based on just opinions or few out of a larger groups.
It's not just opinions. Take a look to the Help & Troubleshooting section: bootloops, screen death, hard bricks, no sd card - for the past month.
Sheep...
My g3 is the best phone I've owned, still matches up to the newer phones my friends try gloating about..
Specially with custom os on it.. stuck a 6000mah battery in it and never looked back.
Shame you didn't have a good time with yours.

Finally, my G3 is totally dead. Hairdryer/oven methods don't work anymore
Just wondering peoples opinions. Not that I want to change but my Jump finger is itchy. My V20 is still the best phone I ever owned and wouldn't surprise me if it the best rootable out there.
Well, I guess it would be OnePlus 3T
Yes. I like that one. 6gb ram. Thats something i always wanted. With nougat though, choices are slim. I kept my note 4 a long time for that reason. Ill probably keep this phone a long time as well. I was just curious, I guess, our device is a lucky break. I was at ground zero for this device and it was pretty hairy in the beginning. Thank God for ridiculously clever xda members! But exploits have been exploited and it seems like tough times for root lovers.
But we can't get the OnePlus at TMobile for some stupid reason.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I think the reason root continues to get harder and manufacturers have started an aggressive campaign to lock boot loaders is because if people who don't do their research and end up bricking their devices and then turning them in on warranty forcing manufacturers to replace devices that were bricked because of the user.
Under US law manufacturer warranty cannot be denied on the basis of software modification unless the manufacturer proves the software modifications caused a hardware failure.
It costs the manufacturer money when this happens.

A colleague of mine is selling his nearly mint att LG V20 (H910) device for just $150. I would like to get this device as I have lost data on my Galaxy S4 Play Edition and can not restore it. (I really like S4 and works without any problem, but I can not restore the data. Didn't get much ideas in Galaxy S4 board so finally giving up on it.)
I like to keep my devices for at least 3 to 4 years. To be able to keep this long, I should be able to root it without much complication. There should be enough community that ROMs will keep appearing after LG decides to stop updating (Not sure Oreo is coming to this device). No unexpected problems should show up due to hardware failure (bootloops on G4, G5, V10) that would require manufacturer to fix. I am not interested in paying a dime.
I can see some rooting info is available. ROMs are also available, but I am not too sure with regards to hardware.
Will appreciate inputs from the users.
Thanks in advance.

Root is more complicated compared to samsungs, the v20 is basically end of life and just now getting oreo, which isn't anything to get excited about as LG software support sucks. The v20 has screen retention issues, poor cellular signal strength just to name a few common issues. Development is pretty scarce as the majority of original devs have long since moved onto other devices. The v20 may get pie but expect it to be a long time considering LG's track record. Your money may be better spent elsewhere

I do not expect any software support from LG. From what I am reading Oreo is coming to Korea only so att device may never see it. As long as Lineage folks keep releasing nightly ROMs, I am content with that.
Can you pls elaborate on the screen retention issues? Do they get burn-in quickly?

All variants will get oreo, I don't use lineage due to its numerous short-comings and issues. The screen retains images and there is ghosting, most of it can be alleviated by using a custom kernel with kcal support.

In my opinion, the Moto G5s Plus(that my father has) is way better in terms of speed and battery life. So you should probably spend your money on Moto G6 or something that falls within your budget if you care most about speed, stock android and battery life. It may be more expensive than 150$
Otherwise, additional features like the second screen, IR blaster are pretty good on LG v20.
Also screen retention/ghosting is annoying and using KCAL with certain settings, fixes it but colors look a bit weird.
