Note 4 issues, missing text messages. Battery all over the place. - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello thank you for your time, girlfriends phone the SM-N910W8 has been having some issues. I was hoping someone might be able to help me resolve.
The problems seemed to start with her battery. It dies when she opens the camera, sends mms messages, takes pictures with battery lower then 40% when she plugs it in the phone reads as still having 30% or so battery. Sometimes it will bootloop when she trys to power back on.
A few months ago more issues starting popping up. She had pin unlock set up on her phone one day the phone would not accept the pin there was no changes made to the pin. I tried to root her device and use a toolkit to disable pin. I was not successful with attaining root and installing anything as I couldn't get TWRP installed. I belive that was due to not being able to change some of the settings.
We ended up reseting the pin via find my mobile which also failed. Ended up factory resetting.
I reverted the phone to stock but of course the Knox counter is at 0x1 now and she can't update her phone.
Anyone have any experience with this or can offer some suggestions as to if the phone is savable or does she need to upgrade. She really likes the phone and hopes to not have to part with it.

Have you bought a new battery for it? That would be the first thing to try.

She has been looking at battery but can't seem to find one with decent reviews. I have tried to calibrate it doesn't seem to help.

Here in the UK Samsung has them in stock. Otherwise either buy DIRECT from Amazon or carrier (not third-party seller) or get an Anker, PowerBear or PolarCell. Sounds like her battery is end-of-life.

Strange N4 Issues

I've had the phone for a few months, only used it for 2 weeks then put it back in the box with plans to resell it. Dad needed a new phone for his job so i decided to give it to him and every day for the past week ive gotten at least one phone call from him with problems. He is extremely new to smart phones but I never had a single issue with this phone prior to giving it to him. For some reason he will receive text messages or voice mail and sees the notification icons up on the notification bar but when he goes to pull the bar down it does nothing. The only way to resolve this issue is to restart the phone then all of a sudden the pull-down starts to function as it should. The phone is completely stock out the box i didn't feel the need to touch anything or have to root it for any reason.
He had to go to AT&T to get a sim card for it and the people there basically wanted to run him out of the store and not even touch the phone because they do not sell it so not a single person wanted to even help him out even though he just dropped more money into their pockets by upgrading his plan to a smart phone plan. before i gave him the phone all i did was a factory reset to wipe out any of my data on the phone so it was clean and like new for him.
Im at a loss because the whole time i used the phone i had no issues and since the day he got it he has had nothing but problems. I chalked this up to user error but its not because when he gave it to me to see if i could figure out why things were acting weird the only thing i could think to do was restart the phone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may be happening and/or how to go about fixing it and not making him regret ever having to get a smart phone much less this N4?
New paragraph!
What messaging apps are you using? You could always download the toolkit and flash the stock factory image again.
I would try another factory reset just to make sure things didn't go haywire during the reset you already did. I have had a bad reset with a phone before.

yeah im gonna have to get with my dad and fool with the phone more. Its hard to troubleshoot something when he lives 45mins away and calls me with problems while im at work.
ONCE AGAIN the whole phone is stock so that would lead me to believe that the stock messaging app is being used. I will talk him through doing a reset again and see how that works out for him. From what he told me the only app hes even installed outside of everything that comes on the phone was Map Quest, which i told him he shouldn't need because Google Maps is already loaded on. So first im going to have him uninstall that from the phone as well as from his downloaded apps list in the play store and see if that changes anything.

[Q] Galaxy 4 Restarts automatically

I have 2 months old Galaxy s4. It was working fine until last night. Since last night, it automatically restarts and when it restarts it shows me 0% battery left. It started doing this when I was surfing facebook. I uninstalled facebook and it worked fine for a while. Then I tried going on whatsapp and it restarted again. Then i did the hard reset and It worked fine until I went on browser and it restarted again. Now its happening everytime I use anything on the phone.
I bought this phone from India and when I tried calling samsung support in Canada they refused to help me. Does anyone have any tips for me?
PS: When it shows me 0% battery, I removed the battery and restarted the phone and battery came back at 90%. So I dont think its battery problem.
Its even restarting now when I send text messages...driving me nuts...any sugestions??

Try removing your SIM card if you added one, and if that doesnt make anything better, then try to factory reset and flash stock firmware. If both those options fail to yield any results i think your phone might be defective.
I will try removing the sim. I have already tried factory resetting and it didnt help. What do u mean by flash stock rom?
Please pay attention to the device forum in which you seek help
There are many models of S4 and use of some software will turn your device into a $700 paperweight

I had an issue similar to this on my girlfriend's Galaxy S4 SGH-1337 AT&T 32GB. Purchased in America from Samsung.
Removing SIM card, removing SD card, removing both. Factory reset, blah blah blah - none of that worked.
What he was referring to, flashing stock ROM is using an application to force push the original software for your phone back onto your device like brand new. Sometimes this will fix defective issues in a device's software causing these malfunctions.
I did this and fixed her phone's problem completely. Try doing so by following the directions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
*UPDATE: That link provides the AT&T file for flashing stock ROM. You may have to find your specific carrier and model "firmware" file. Just search the xDa forums for so. I quickly looked for a list of models/carriers firmware and didn't see them in a single list. They're available elsewhere but I support xDa and don't want to provide a link to another site.
If you don't have AT&T, make sure you find your model and carrier.
I bought it from India...brand new unlocked....which ROM should I use?

[Q] Verzion 900V probelm

I purchased a S5 G 900V (Verizon) on the 15th (of May) after my last phone died (Razr)... 2 months after the insurance expired of course. The S5 seemed to work fine for the first 3 days and like most I was setting it all up (w/exception of a few root only apps since the verzion phone is locked up).
This last Tuesday late afternoon the phone wouldn't turn on so I did a battery pull and when it booted up it had an unlocked icon (lock that was unlocked) display on the device and the word "custom" displayed under the open lock. The phone would go to sleep and not wake up without a battery pull each time. Device status under the settings area was also the word "custom". I had purchased the device from Best Buy along with insurance at our local mall... and at 7 pm after trying to get the phone to work correctly took it back to the store. The person that had sold me the phone was there along with one of the managers/assistant managers and they both keep telling me it was my own fault for attempting to root the phone (which I didn't do). They fought with the phone for and hour or so and couldn't get anything to work correctly... still getting the unlocked icon and custom word. I was told that if I could get it unrooted they would exchange the device for me, but they couldn't do anything with the phone until I could get it back into ua unrooted status. The assist manager did point me out to another website that explained the use of ODIN and where to get the stock Verizon rom.. which took a good few hours to d/l due to their slow server (not complaining, I'm glad they had it for me to begin with).
I set up and attempted to unroot the device with no avail. Did a factory wipe clean out cache etc etc the ODIN program kept saying it worked and I would be presented with all the normal new phone settings and hoops to jump thru as if it was just being activated... but on a restart the open lock and custom was still there.
Yesterday while looking over forums I noticed the phone was downloading an app I had already downloaded. I looked at the phone and it seemed as if it was re-installing some of the basic play store apps I had! I rebooted the phone and no lock appeared and under the Device status custom was gone and "original" was in it's place. I packed all my boxes and cables up and after work today took the phone in and had them exchange it for a new one. The same assistant manager was there when I had first taken the phone in when I had experienced the strange behavior.
She (the assistant manager), had no problem exchanging it since it didn't have that error showing up.
My major concern is if somehow if/when I connected the phone to my desktop did it (either the phone or computer) try and transfer files that made the phone act up in the first place? I have a rooted Nexus 7 and the Razr I had had ... had also been rooted. I don't think I have anything besides Samsungs device manager and Wugs Nexus Root toolkit, but those shouldn't mess the S5 up I have Eclipse installed but it doesn't launch without manual opening. I would both hate it if I had the same thing happen to this new phone but also dislike the idea of not plugging the phone in to transfer media if I wanted to.
Any ideas... or think it was a bad first phone?

[Q] Do I have a faulty phone or is this just normal

I just got my G2 delivery from Verizon and have been playing around with it for about an hour or so. I have the preinstalled sim card pulled out because I need my other phone as my daily use phone for the time being until I have time to transfer things to the new phone. So for now i'm just using wifi to play with the G2. It came with the OTA update 24A already on it so I guess i'm up to date.
So far the phone seems to work great except for two odd problems that I can't seem to resolve even with two factory resets. Just wanted to see if anyone has any answers, if I have a faulty phone or if this is just how things work with this phone. Both problems happen on a reboot of the phone.
1.) I set my brightness level manual 50% and my screen timeout to 30 seconds but everytime the phone reboots, it resets the brightness level to 100% and the screen timeout back to the default 1 minute setting. If I make the changes again and reboot the phone, it resets things again back to default. Is this a software glitch? Does this happen to everyone? Or do I have a problem that requires me to return the phone for a new one. I guess I could live with it, but i'd rather not have to.
2.) This one is really odd. The first time I turned on the phone or did the factory resets, I had a notification in the drop down list that I needed to accept LG user agreements. I did so and the notification went away. When I restart the phone, the user agreement notification pops up again, but this time it doesn't ask me to accept anything. I just need to clear the notification from the drop down list. How on earth am I supposed to get this to go away completely.
I haven't rooted it yet because I might need to return it so I am completely stock at the moment. The only thing that I don't have is the sim card installed, but I can't imagine that not having the sim card plugged in would cause these two problems. Does anyone have any possible reasons for these two problems or should I just return the phone to Verizon for a new one?
Thanks for any suggestions....
EDIT: Did a little research and found a post on the AndroidCentral forum that my brightness problem may indeed be the result of having the sim card pulled. I have to wonder if it is also the reason for my user agreement problem, but won't know for sure until I can put the sim card from my old phone in the new phone. For now I will take a wait and see approach. Feel free to delete this thread if need be.

[Q] Nexus 4 blocked itself!!! Is there a way to remove PIN?

Thankfully I have made recently a backup of the phone... So I really don't care if I need to wipe it out...
Hello XDA Forums! The most strange thing has happened to me yesterday! I have a Nexus 4 with Android 5.0.1, and was doing some Skype + Hangouts (battery was around 14%)... I put it in my lap, put it in the baggage (I was on a trip to the beach), and when I try to unlock the phone... BAM!
I get myself a PIN lockscreen.... I don't know how the heck did it happen. I don't even have one for starters. I know 100% sure that nobody touched that phone, because it was with me ALL THE TIME (from the last time I used it, to the time I got the message. It was around 35 mins).
And you know what's strange...? I can't even make emergency calls. I don't know if this is a bug... But it has kind of scared me because I'm away from home and good Internet connection. Thankfully I have my laptop with me and Lollipop has the hotspot toggle which it isn't PIN-enforced.
Has this happened to anyone?
Is there a way to unlock the device?
Thanks
