Take Pic with Bixby button mod (Tasker and BixBye required) - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Here is a way to get your S8 or S8+ to function like any other camera; by turning that Bixby button into a shutter release button!
Requirements;
Tasker;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en
BixBye;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=you.in.spark.bixbye&hl=en
HowTo;
Import the attached tasker profile (click on task tab, then import) and create an app out of the task (long-click on the task you just made, select Export then As App, then install.)
When finished installing, load up BixBye and set it to launch the app you created from this task.

I haven't looked at OP's Tasker profile, but Tasker can do basically anything, so I can't see why not.

Should be possible, just dont know the terminal command off hand to make it happen.

i can't find the zip file through the tasker app, can anybody help me out with this?

You need to decompress the zip file, tasker doesn't read zip files but .tsk files.

I decompressed the file, renamed the file to backup.xml and placed it in Tasker/User/configs I believe, closed the app and reopened it and it worked fine.
Protip : It comes with the rear camera function by default, you need to literally change Rear to Front in the first task, and then export to APK and have BixBye run that exported app.

Sorry, I'm new in Tasker
It don't work on Note 8

Key 703 = bixby button, add SYSRQ command for screenshot.

So does this make the bixby button take a picture even when the screen is off?
I downloaded tasker but Im unable to "import" the file I downloaded from here.
Not too savvy when it comes to this but I would love the ability to do this

Hi, thanks for the tutorial.
I have a problem: When I try to export as app an error message shows up. I imported the config downloaded here. Anyone?

Having problems getting this to work too. Not sure what I'm missing but whenever I try to import the file it tells me it should be in the format .prj.xml. I tried renaming it but that doesn't help either (different error). Us there another import option I am missing somewhere?

Figured it out (with help from Google). If anyone else is struggling to import then just go to Tasks tab and long press on the word "Tasks" to get the import option

Tasker Profile for Samsung S9 BixbyPic
I followed your steps below, but the BixbyPic app would not open after I uploaded it to my phone through Tasker. Is the Tasker profile different for the S9 from the S8? If so, would it be possible for you to post it?
Thanks

Hi,
does it also work on Galaxy S9+ (Android 8.0.0) ?
I tried to import the BixbyPic.tsk.xml file, but I get the error message: "fehlerhaftes, gepacktes Dateiformat" from my German version which translates roughly into: error packed file format.
Could you please help and tell me how to make the Bixby button my camera shutter button!!
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Favorites Tab Shows Wrong Website Preview

So basically I had added a favorite to the sense tab and clicked on it while using free WiFi at McDonald's so the page it shows is the page where you accept the terms of service for the free WiFi. I have searched for it, but if I somehow did miss the answer I apologize in advance. I have tried removing the favorite from the tab & removing the favorite all together & then re-adding it and it still shows the wrong preview. I am guessing that there is a directory somewhere that I would be able to just delete the preview data. TIA for any help!!!
Bump I would love to know too.

That's a weird one. Did you try deleting it, then doing a soft reset, then adding it?
Have you looked in the Windows\Temporary Internet Files folder? Or maybe it's the Temp folder? See if the images for the shortcuts are cached in one of those folders. If so, you can just delete them and that should take care of it.
all the thumbnails are located in:
/Windows/Thumbnail
simply find the one you have and replace it with one you want or delete it. (the names are very long and make no sense, but in the end are simply .pngs.)

U8800 2.3.5 Official latest - build.prop twick

I 've found an interesting line at the /system/build.prop. Just edit with root permissions with one root explorer. BACKUP ORIGINAL build.prop
Reject with sms feature:
Find the line called : ro.config.hw_reject_message=false
and set it true.
save, reboot, call yourself and see your new option.
You can edit these messages at call settings!

It works flawlessly!
I also enabled this:
ro.config.hw_always_allow_mms=false
and changed to true
saved and reboot
Because by default you need to have the data services enabled to receive MMS, and for me this is a little bit annoying!

Hope it helps:

When you receive a call, it shows a reject message menu, that if you choose one message, it reject the call and send the message immediatelly.
And in call settings you can define those messages.

Any software for android that can access tweaks?
I did found couple more tweaks!
First one goes for the camera and enabling HDR mode: ro.config.hw.camera.hdr=false ,change that to true and you will find new option in camera settings.
Another two are not working for me but someone with more knowledge could maybe find what I am missing and make it work. First one is for .FLAC support in stock music player: ro.config.ape_flac_enable=false, change that to true and player will try to play FLAC files but does not work-before that it would not even try to play it.
Second one is for IP calls: ro.config.hw_support_ipcall=false
ro.config.ipcall=false
Make that both true and you will find new option in caller. If someone find out something else or how to make to work the two I found pleas let us know.thank you.
Thanks

Has anyone found a way to wake the screen by pressing the vol keys and not the power button?
Manoysos,
not really a fix, just a solution... what I did do solve that was to install widget locker, you can activate easy wake and you get Vol key to wake up the phone.
Works for me perfect!

Thanks man I'll try it.
EDIT:
One more tweak.
You can change hw_menu_unlockscreen=false to true and then you can unlock your phone by pressing the menu(option) touch button after you have waken it.
lpa.decode=true— lpa.decode=FALSE Beats perfect No stuttering

Controlling system volume

As far as we know, there is no documented way or API to change system-wide volume on WP8, however...
It looks like author of the Quiet Hours application found an udocumented way to do this! Probably he is using ISimpleAudioVolume interface but I really don't know...
Any thoughts?
P.S. Guys with interop-unlocked handsets: could you please install the app and download/post the executable/assembly?

I tried this app it didn't work for me i set time but it can't set my phone in silent mode.
I'm really interested that this app can change system volume.
I remember there was an app for fully unlocked wp7 devices to change system volume but now i can't find it.
Maybe Ativ S users with Interop Unlock and Full FS can help with this. They can get app files and upload them to check how is it possible.
I looked for decrypted xap file but i didn't find that

Try to pin app first, and manually toggle the volume by tapping tile (you don't need to wait 30 minutes).

I tried waiting over 1 hours to be silent but didn't work .
I know Pin tile work it has no problems but working with time is better .
Adjusts the volume by the number of steps specified either up (positive) or down (negative).
Code:
HRESULT Shell_AdjustVolume(int numberOfSteps);
I also noticed that if you set the volume to 0, and play a WhatsApp voice message, it plays on full volume although it is set to mute. Anyone know how this is done? It would be cool to be able to use this to set important reminders

What'sApp voice messages use the "phone call" volume (/10) instead of the normal system (/30) volume. So it doesn't matter if your system volume is muted the app will use the headset phone call volume...

[Q] Cant forward text messages

Hi all,
Just upgraded from a S3 and can’t seem to get the option to forward a text message.
I used to do this on my S3 by a long press on the text message I wanted to forward.
When I do this now...I only get 2 options....copy text and delete!
On the S3 I have many options.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I forward the message?
Many thanks in advance.
Screenshot attached....
You appear to have posted this in an number of forums. That's bad form, you should stick to one thread. The same amount of time put into a straightforward search would have seen your question answered already. The answer can be found in the S5 manual, myriad search results or on Youtube. Long press on the message balloon instead of the unopened message. Then select forward from the popup menu.
Google search: forward text message s5
Top search result.
Or even better, upgrade to a better third party SMS app.
If you still have problems, post a .PNG screen shot and provide details of your firmware version, app version, what you have tried, et cetera.
Enjoy

This is the first time I have posted this question.
I did do a Google search and the answers that were coming up were a long press on the balloon as you mention.....this doesn’t work on my phone.
I only have 2 options when I do that
1) Delete
Or
2) Copy text
(Screenshot of long press attached)
I have also attached screenshot of my phones details.
It’s very odd, how I’d only have such limited options when I long press on the speech bubble.
Any help appreciated.
You didn't tell us what SMS app version you have or anything about your SMS or APN configuration, so there is no way to discern what might be amiss on your phone.
At a guess, try installing the stock SMS app here
Rename the old SMS app and the corresponding odex file if your system is odexed. Clear your cache and move the new SMS app to /system/priv-app per the directions in the post (do not install via the package manager).

Hi I had this same problem but it appears you may have set your phone to EasyMode. In Easy mode your Samsung S5 collapses your phones functions for specified applications to the bare essentials.
The solution:
1. Find the EasyMode option and set your phone to "Standard Mode"
2. Remain in EasyMode and uncheck Messaging.
Worked for me. Hope it works for you too.
Or you can just Copy text and paste into a new message.

Junsun V1 Pro - custom development

Currently I try to build an app which uses the native C libraries to read data from the MCU. If this works it will open a new dimension of custom app development.
Currently I try to read which SWC button was pressed. In this first aproach I focus on SWC without can box but I think it would be adaptable for can, too.
Please let me know if that sounds interesting for you and if you are willing to try a test app on your head unit.

Because it is programmed that way in canbus or memory orf head unit.
(root directory - one that you don't see - device must be rooted for super access or engineer mode, then download some file manager from play store and go inside root directory find and edit file responsible for SWC)
You can edit or copy paste or write on root directory a new file.
Even if you can edit it is encrypted or coded for access.
All things can be imported (buttons phisycal of device , SWC, random integrated apps etc.) as a file or number of files into device memory or thru import button on factory settings.

Nevertheless the C library should provide us different values. 0 means no information and editing such a file will not help in current case/investigation.
