[Q] Cant forward text messages - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just upgraded from a S3 and can’t seem to get the option to forward a text message.
I used to do this on my S3 by a long press on the text message I wanted to forward.
When I do this now...I only get 2 options....copy text and delete!
On the S3 I have many options.
What am I doing wrong?
How do I forward the message?
Many thanks in advance.

Screenshot attached....

You appear to have posted this in an number of forums. That's bad form, you should stick to one thread. The same amount of time put into a straightforward search would have seen your question answered already. The answer can be found in the S5 manual, myriad search results or on Youtube. Long press on the message balloon instead of the unopened message. Then select forward from the popup menu.
Google search: forward text message s5
Top search result.
Or even better, upgrade to a better third party SMS app.
If you still have problems, post a .PNG screen shot and provide details of your firmware version, app version, what you have tried, et cetera.
Enjoy
.

This is the first time I have posted this question.
I did do a Google search and the answers that were coming up were a long press on the balloon as you mention.....this doesn’t work on my phone.
I only have 2 options when I do that
1) Delete
Or
2) Copy text
(Screenshot of long press attached)
I have also attached screenshot of my phones details.
It’s very odd, how I’d only have such limited options when I long press on the speech bubble.
Any help appreciated.

You didn't tell us what SMS app version you have or anything about your SMS or APN configuration, so there is no way to discern what might be amiss on your phone.
At a guess, try installing the stock SMS app here
Rename the old SMS app and the corresponding odex file if your system is odexed. Clear your cache and move the new SMS app to /system/priv-app per the directions in the post (do not install via the package manager).

Hi I had this same problem but it appears you may have set your phone to EasyMode. In Easy mode your Samsung S5 collapses your phones functions for specified applications to the bare essentials.
The solution:
1. Find the EasyMode option and set your phone to "Standard Mode"
2. Remain in EasyMode and uncheck Messaging.
Worked for me. Hope it works for you too.

Or you can just Copy text and paste into a new message.

Go Dialer Question

I am hoping i have more success getting an answer / resolution than i did to my last question on here when no one replied
I have Go Contacts and Go Dialer installed, i actually use the dialer than came with Sergio Coredroid 1.6 build as it looks good but i use Go Contacts instead of people for my address book.
When i go to make a call a box pops up asking me to confirm call, i went into settings and unticked this box and that was ok but the following day when i turned the phone on and when i went to make a call the same box popped up, i went into settings again but this time the box was still unticked so i cant understand why this box still pops up anytime i go to make a call, i also cant see anything to uninstall go dialer just go contacts which id like to keep but if this box keeps popping up asking me to confirm call ill have to uninstall it, is there a resolution to this?
Isn't anyone else having this problem and or has a resolution?
Dear me this is the second question in the last week on the Android Q & A ive asked without anyone answering this forum used to be so helpful
thanks

It's not like that, reason for no reply may be that no one else has ever faced this issue on HD2, you can try asking this question in general Android forum (as it's not device specific I believe)
Thanks
Could be that not many ppl are online at this time, also not many on hd2 use go contacts & dialer
try this thread, in the Android Apps and Games forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992946
there are dialer related Q's in there, poss' more likely to get a response
Kam
Edit: @jeetu1981, i was typing when you replied... great minds n all that!
A couple of times when I install an add-on app, it doesn't show in the normal application area under settings to be removed. I found that if I go to the Market and click My Apps, then I can see the add-on app and remove it.

lol, no prob. buddy!!
Thanks
Go contacts v1.14 introduced the call confirm feature.
To turn this off follow this procedure:
Start the the dialer
Menu -> Settings -> Uncheck Call Confirm under dial preferences.
However I found that after a while the application will get purged from memory, and then when Go Contacts is not running (or you force stop it) all outbound calls via bluetooth and Direct Dial shortcuts get prompted with a call confirm. To resolve this just start the dialler (i.e. bring up the dialler keypad or the o contacts application)
Hope that helps

Some questions for SGS II experts

Hi All,
I just for the SGS II the other day and have some questions.
A few questions for the experts..
1. Can you change the widget that it comes with in the notification area? Meaning is there an option to add flight mode etc? I know I can get widgets after market but the one Samsung bundles is quite good.
2. Gmail icon, for me it doesnt have the number of emails notification. Anyone else have this? If so can you recommend another gmail icon that will notify and take me to the gmail app?
3. I also tried the Wifi Unlock (App from Market), but every time it goes to sleep I still get the enter the pin to get in. What am I doing wrong? The whole idea was not to type the pin when at home with wifi on?

Hi,
As the upper sticky states : If your thread can be phrased as a question, it belongs in Galaxy S II Q&A
It's really the best way to share useful information. I bet you can understand that, 'cause if you had read all the threads, you would've found some of the info you're looking for; except that everyone that wants answers creates a thread... If we centralize all useful info and questions in one thread, it's easier to find it. Wouldn't you agree ?
My bad. Sorry. Hopefully a mod can move this.

Google Dialer - On LG G3

Greetings XDA Members,
I've searched for quite some time, with limited success on keeping a stock rom along with Google Dialer. The best of both worlds if you will, that would allow great features without the loss of another. It was always a debate between using a AOSP rom at the loss of the camera, or sticking to stock and working with xposed to change settings to an agreeable state. With endless google searches, forums read, and opinions given by others; they all seemed to end with "Not Possible". Well, with some trial and error I have found a workable solution that will allow the Google Dialer to replace the stock dialer, and also allow for "In-callui" to replace the stock one.
It also needs to be mentioned, that I cannot guarantee this will work with your variant, custom rom, or other items not factored into the equation. Though this has worked for me without fail on the ATT Model D850 on Cloudy 2.5 but there are a few details to note. The "In-callUI" will show for both Incoming & Outgoing calls, but you will first see your stock one come up for a brief second or so and switch over. For me, this isn't an issue as I don't immediately answer or hang up when a call completes. Some of the items recommended in the prerequisite are optional and provide other ways to find/adjust permissions, or freeze/delete applications (Stock dialer). I'm not personally an avid developer, but if you have any questions I've been able to gain a great deal of knowledge over the years with hands on experience with the Android operating system. Feel free to ask any questions that may come up, and I'll be happy to assist if possible.
Pre-requisites;
LG G3 - Rooted
Custom Recovery with knowledge on Flashing ZIP files.
Root Explorer / File Manager
Nova Launcher / App to launch an activity.
Titanium Backup (recommended to backup Dialer and other applications in case of damage)
Included in the attachments is the file GoogleStockDialerAndMms. This file is a flashable zip that will automatically adjust the permissions necessary to make calls. It's highly recommended that you make a backup of your current rom with TWRP/CWM in case any issues arise. As this adds two files to your system directory, there is always a chance that an error can occur.
If you choose the route of Nova, you can create a shortcut to an activity. Below I've included a screenshot of which activity needs to be chosen in order to use Google Dialer.
Within Nova Launcher, long-press on the home screen.
Choose "Shortcuts"
Select "Activities"
Find "Google Dialer" in the list, then tap to open it up, and select "Phone" (use the first one in the list)
Can I disable my default dialer?
The short answer is no. As a general rule, you will need to keep your present dialer enabled in order to receive calls. The long answer is that on some phones you might be able to disable your stock dialer, but on others you definitely cannot. Feel free to try it on your own device and let us know what your results are. If you choose to do attempt this, I highly recommend against uninstalling and instead move to FREEZING the phone applications with Titanium Backup or similar root enabled application.
747 views, and 44 downloads. Hopefully everything has been smooth for everyone attempted. Please leave feedback if you have any issues.
Good to see it's over 1200 views and counting. If anyone has any issues, feel free to reply so they can be addressed.

Good job on this even if Im already running an AOSP based ROM, I dont need this.

i flashed the zip and everything seems to be working fine. i am also able to search close by businesses, i typed pizza and it showed me the closest pizza places.
the only FC i am getting is in settings when i tap call settings-voicemail, call waiting. i don't use that so its ok for me. thanks again.
also i did not have to create a shortcut, the app icon was there after restart.

This does work on VS985 5.0.1. The settings does crash if you click whatever the second option was (Went back to stock for my own reasons).

@SyCoREAPER thank you for the update!
Doesn't work here....either when triggered from a Nova Settings widget or from the icon in the launcher. Instant force close. I can try to grab a log if you think it'll help?
D852, running Dene_Bluesman's rom (basically stock LG 5.0.1)
Edit - wonder if its because the rom version i'm using is odexed? Going to try the deodexed version and report back....
Edit 2 - nope still crashes instantly. Super frustrating! Please let me know if a log will help! @Eruvion
I want to try this on my lg G2, is there any reason you think it might not work? Anything that would make this zip specific to the G3?
+1 on this. would like to see if we can get this to work on Cloudy for G2.
Hi
This thread seem's a bit dead. Anyway i have flashed this file and it works. I am on N&N 1.3 rom. It's a stock mm based rom.

Samsung Galaxy S6/S7/S8/Note8 - Adding Missing/Hidden Quick Toggles/Tiles

Due to my own experiences after having purchased many Galaxy devices, I've noticed, Samsung likes to hide toggles.. So I always put my own back in, with adb, or an app. For newer android devices, we need adb.
So on your Galaxy, go to settings>developer options, and enable USB debugging, and Stay awake. (If you don't see developer options, go into 'About phone', and tap on 'Build Number' 7+ times until achieved.
Plug your phone into your computer, and make sure it's drivers are installed and the phone is coming up properly.
Download the ADB files, on your PC, here in a .Zip or a Folder
Then, open up an Admin CMD, (if you don't know how, GOOGLE.) Then, open up the directory of the ADB folder in the cmd.
Example, on my computer, I left the folder in downloads, so I type into the cmd cd c:\users/Jae/downloads/platform-tools Example
Type adb devices into the cmd. (Make sure only one phone is attached) If you see your phone, (random looking numbers & letters) good. If it says 'unauthorized' check the phone and make sure tap allow, if you don't see anything.. detach it & reattach, and type in adb devices again. When it says 'device', you're good. Go to the next step.
Type adb shell and at this point, you should be looking like This.. If you do, copy and paste this settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles
Once it loads, copy what came up by highlighting like this, and then use ctrl+v . Yours will be/look different, depending on your toggles. Paste it into a text file, or whatever.
Then copy settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles and paste it in front of all of that, then put ' in front of the first toggle, and after the last toggle. Like this, 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth' < JUST AN EXAMPLE
This is where you add in your missing toggles, using only commas to separate, no spaces.. Most commonly desired MobileData. There's more, if wanted. So, for example, if you start with 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth'
You should finish with 'SilentMode,Wifi,Bluetooth,MobileData,WifiHotspot' or any order you like. (MAKE SURE NO SPACES IN BETWEEN ANY TOGGLES. ONLY COMMAS.)
Should be looking like THIS!! then, copy it so it looks just like in the last screenshot. Simply right click in the cmd, and hit enter..
If you get a syntax error, you did something wrong. Like leaving out the ' at the beginning, and ' at the end of the toggles, or spaces somewhere other than the command.
If you have no errors, check your Quick Toggles for the newly added ones. Should be there, no restart necessary or anything.
If successful, congrats. If not, I can help. Just ask. (don't ask about anything other than the topic, PLEASE..)
As of December 30th, 2019, this still works just fine. HOWEVER on newer android updates, 'MobileHotspot' has been renamed to JUST 'Hotspot' . So if you're not seeing the icon after applying this fix, this is probably why. Try with Hotspot instead of MobileHotspot.
Thanks for the solution, finally I added mobile data icon!

Hey there! This worked great prior to the update I just did last week. I wanted to get the wifihotspot to be the first icon when i dropped the quick toggle menu down, instead of rifling through Settings, Connections, Mobile Hotspot and tethering, then finally able to switch it on. Now when I put wifihotspot in the command line you posted, it just stays at the default. It's as though they may have changed the name of the wifihotspot toggle to something else. Any idea? My phone is a S7, Android 8.0.0, Samsung Experience version 9.0, Baseband version G930W8VLU3CRE3. A lot more software info but hopefully that's enough. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, I have the same problem with MobileData. Even though I add it to the list, the tile doesn't seem to appear...
Any idea on the new name if it even exist anymore?
So, would I be able to add the DeX software toggle thats on the galaxy tab s4? this would be the best.
Best answer all the times
I have been looking for this solution nearly a year! And thank you really, thank you too much. I m glad.
AWESOME! Added "HotSpot" to my Rogers Galaxy S8+ in Canada. Thanks so much!
Question
I have small question. Is there a way to stop asking "Turn off mobile data" question?
I mean for example mobile data on. And when you touch toggle it asks "Mobile Data unless.. bla bla do you want to turn off mobile data?" I just want to change it as without any question.
Thank you
I was able to add "Hotspot" toggle to the Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

Unfortunately, installing other software isn't as simple as this TileCode fix.
You should search other XDA threads for that. And beware, read EVERYTHING before trying to apply anything!

[Guide] Activate Native Video Calling (over LTE), RCS & other features

Quick Note before you start this - If you are on stable one UI 3.x / Android 11 or greater, see the bottom of the post to see the workaround. Thanks to @knuschit
Introduction - If you have ever bought a device that comes locked with the carrier you will see there are some carrier baked features missing in unlocked devices. While putting in your sim will change CSC of your device you might still not get all the features. So far i fail to understand why would device makers and Carriers make it so difficult for users. I have scourged through so many forums and found info like these where a t-mobile rep responds saying there is no way those features can be added to non carrier branded device ( Either a blatant lie or the reps are ill informed or both).
My Device - Unlocked SM-N986U1 with tmobile sim - CSC - TMB/TMB/XAA
Problem Statement- I want Video calling over LTE and RCS features.
Solution - Follow the steps carefully and also see the attached screenshots -
There are other ways of doing this by creating shortcut to ims service settings but i am posting something that most users can easily do.
Quick Pre-Check - Before starting if you have been using RCS on Google Messages you might want to de-register. Follow the process here: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat.
You can always activate it in case you want to go back to RCS on google messages.
This will only work if you are on Android 10, or the Beta version of Android 11. Samsung has blocked this on Stable Android 11.
STEPS1. Download and install Phone app (By google)
2. Open the phone App that you just downloaded and make it your default Phone app.
3. Dial *#*#467#*#*
4. You will see the settings as in my Screenshot 1
5. Tap on IMS Service Switch (The first Option)
In case you cant see the screenshot - Just tap on the first option IMS service Switch, Then make sure MMTEL Switch and RCS Switch is toggled on.
If you see below RCS Switch there is a section titled MMTEL
Sub-options of MMTEL are
VoLTE
VoLTE-Video
VoLTE-Call-Composer
SMS over IP
Supplementary Services
Called Dial Third Party Number
JUST TURN ALL THESE TOGGLES ON
Click to collapse
6. See the Screenshot 2 and move all the switches to ON.
7. Go back to main page and then go to RCS Configuration settings and make sure they are selected to be always on as in Screenshot 3.
8. I changed back to default phone app after this.
9. And done you should have the video calling over LTE to fellow T-Mobile users activated now.
I have already made a few calls and tested it and can confirm that this works. This might work for Sprint too.
NOTE THAT - Default video call on contacts is still duo. you have to make a regular voice call to a contact first then you will see the native video call icon.
These settings wont stick after OS/Firmware update via Odin, OTA or Sideload and steps would need to be repeated.
Edit Update -You can See all three screenshots together here.
Let us know how it goes here and if you explored any more settings and i will update this post with due credit.
WORKAROUND: SINCE THE ABOVE METHOD IS NOT WORKING ON ONE UI 3.X / Android 11The conventional method doesnt work on Android 11 so use the method below:
1. Install Alliance Shield X >> Create account and Give necessary permissions
2. Open Alliance Shield X settings and toggle New App Manager Layout On
3. Look at this post and follow
4. See the Screenshot 2 and move all the switches to ON.
5. Go back to main page and then go to RCS Configuration settings and make sure they are selected to be always on as in Screenshot 3.
I can confirm this works.
ADDITIONAL CONFIRMED INFO FROM USERS / TROUBLESHOOTING
Try the following step in case you had RCS activated on Google Messages and doing the above steps does not get you RCS in the Native SMS App. Thanks @Compusmurf

Also, might add. IF you were previously using Google messages, then you do this, you probably will have to UNREGISTER from Google Messages for Samsung Messages to pick up RCS.....

Also this site is further compressing the pictures hence you guys cant see. when i get time i will upload to some pic sharing site.

Thanks, all were all toggled on already. Still uses duo. Guess I can live with it.

The default on contacts will still show duo. Make a regular voice call and then you will see the native video call icon wait i will show you as you can SEE HERE
As soon as the person answers the option to toggle to video is activated in the first row center icon. Let me know if that is the same for you and works.
It used to be a call hold icon earlier before we toggled the IMS settings.

I don't have the option to make a regular video call. After I place a voice call, the native video call button appears on the dialer screen with the active call, but it's greyed out.

The other person needs to have that option too (Why not just call me), JK sorry dont know how to help you here. if you know someone who got S8, S9, S10, S20, Note 8, 9, 10 or 20 phones directly from TMobile call them and since they would already have it yours wont be grayed out anymore.

1. Download and install Phone app (By google)
2. Open the phone App that you just downloaded and make it your default Phone app.
2. Dial *#*#467#*#*
3. You will see the settings as in my Screenshot 1
4. Tap on IMS Service Switch (The first Option)
5. See the screenshot 2 and move all the switches to ON - My video share was on, it turned off while taking screenshot so make it on too.
6. Go back to main page and then go to RCS Configuration settings and make sure they are selected to be always on as in Screenshot 3.
7. I changed back to default phone app after this.
8. And done you should have the video calling over LTE to fellow T-Mobile users activated now.
I have already made a few calls and tested it and can confirm that this works. This might work for Sprint too.
Let us know how it goes here and if you explored any more settings and i will update this post with due credit.
NOTE THAT - Default video call on contacts is still duo. you have to make a regular voice call to a contact first then you will see the native video call icon.

I have a U.S t-mobile branded phone (AT15 ; Sep security patch)and use the Samsung stock messaging app. I have been hoping for RCS to be enabled but that hasn't happened yet. I know google messaging has this feature but I prefer to stick with my current stock samsung messaging app. Will following your method help me in activating RCS? Thanks!

Yes it will and i can confirm i checked and it is working. I see when my friend with RCS activated is typing. So typing indicators are working a big sign that RCS is working.
To verify before you do any of the above steps open your default Samsung SMS app and go to settings by clicking on 3 dots on top right, do you see an option called 'Chat Settings' if not, once you have gone through the suggested steps above you will see chat settings activated meaning RCS working.
Also, might add. IF you were previously using Google messages, then you do this, you probably will have to UNREGISTER from Google Messages for Samsung Messages to pick up RCS.....

Thanks for confirming.
I did all this a week or 2 back to mine and my granddaughters phones.
I didn't do any kind of writeup because this info has been out there in the wild, just not overly shared because there are other options in that menu that can wreck your phone experience.
Glad someone did.
(Note to folks, don't go randomly changing things here if you don't know what they are and haven't been validated by others)
Since you did so good here, you should write a document for folks how to "update" using FRIJA and ODIN for folks with U1 devices. Maybe that'll cut down on the folks that complain that they can't get Month X security update because Carrier Y is slow.
I know how, but writing a document step by step isn't the same and I'm very bad at documentation.
