Ok so, Ive been searching the forums but haven't found a concise answer.
Background info:
Moto G4 XT1625 (Amazon Prime ad Version)
Bootloader unlocked
Not rooted
Software Channel/Variant: amz
Current software version: MM 6.0.1
Build Number: MPJ24. 139-64
What I'd like to know is:
1.) Can i flash the stock non-amazon prime version rom for this model to my phone safely, thereby changing the software variant/channel to retus?
2.) Is the rom for MPJ24.139-63 available to flash as i want to try out the nougat soak test, and is the soak test recommended?
Cheers.

I don't think flashing a non-Amazon factory room will change the channel to retus. As for the soak test, some have had no problems and some have had problems. I can tell you that flashing the soak can stop the official update. At least it did for me when I did an official soak on my G3. Motorola wasn't a lot of help in getting it fixed but eventually one of their engineers pushed me an update.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought the prime version with ads had an un-unlockable bootloader? How did you unlock it?

I thought so too, when I saw it mentioned in the forums, I checked the website immediately and I got through by probably sheer luck.

Well, you are probably in a pretty unique situation and not going to find a lot of folks that can say they did it and it worked.... good luck you lucky bastard Mine was not eligible.
Hi everyone,
I have the Moto G4 xt1625 Amazon Prime variation. Nevertheless, I took the regular steps to receive the unlock code on Motorola Website and they simply sent it to me. No idea if the fact that I live outside US and / or that my carrier is, obviously, from outside US had anything to do with it or if I was just lucky. I got the code, but I still never used it, which means I have the stock 6.0.1 android.
Now on to my questions:
1-My build number is MPJ24.139-64. What does that really means? I see people discussing this everywhere, some are 65. What difference does each build have?
2-I never heard of Firmware when speaking of mobiles. I always heard/changed the OS, but now you guys are changing firmware and OS. How do I know which firmware I have? How do I get the latest one?
3-Since I have the unlock code for the boot loader, does it virtually means I have a regular xt1625 Moto G4? I mean, as of now I still have the adds, but should I opt to unlock the boot loader and say flash CM 14.1 it would be the same as non Prime xt1625 or does the Prime version have other differences (build, firmware, etc)?
4-Can Moto G4 use the same ROMs as Moto G4 Plus? I've seen different answers regarding this matter. Would I have to flash base bands and/or soak test?
5-Is CM 14.1 (cm-14.1-20161225-NIGHTLY-athene.zip) the latest AOSP ROM for Moto G4?
Thank you in advance for your help and time! =]
Andre
Anyone? ^^
Maybe i can help you
1- This is like the version of firmware, or OS if you want to call like this way, (correct me if i am wrong)
2- Firware and OS are the same, i guess. Better call it ROM
3- Yes, the same. But i have the prime version locked so i cant tell you with 100% of security
4- Yes and no. the board is the same thing, you can install it but maybe you have problems like heat (not so much, of course)(because moto g+ have the cores boosted to 100%, and moto g non plus have 4 to 100% and 4 energy saver cores.)
5- NIGHTLY is a buggy software, this is not the software 100% tested. Maybe you have to wait a SNAPSHOT. This is more secure
Sorry for my English. I speak spanish better <3s
Thank you!!
What about the Indian 7.0 ROM? Can we install it without problems?

If you have unlocked the bootloader of course! Yes!
But maybe you want to make a backup of everything before!
I will recommend to you wait until the official software for your smartpone arrive..
For some reason Motorola has not released it, maybe the Indian 7.0 is buggy and they are just testing with india...
But you can try without problems!
PD: Remember when i said without problems, Problems may appear like overheating, WiFi problems, etc etc. But you can have a taste of nougat! Just search a little, i know people who have Nougat in theirs XT1625, and is working "well" (overheating againg)
try this

Hi,
I'm not a newbie here, but I think I can help u with some info since I have the same amz prime unlocked bootloader
Now on to my questions:
1-My build number is MPJ24.139-64. What does that really means? I see people discussing this everywhere, some are 65. What difference does each build have?
This is the latest build, that it's available for this phone version, this FW is the one that I had before I moved to RR.
2-I never heard of Firmware when speaking of mobiles. I always heard/changed the OS, but now you guys are changing firmware and OS. How do I know which firmware I have? How do I get the latest one?
FW es the specific version of a OS, the one that's meant to be on your phone
3-Since I have the unlock code for the boot loader, does it virtually means I have a regular xt1625 Moto G4? I mean, as of now I still have the adds, but should I opt to unlock the boot loader and say flash CM 14.1 it would be the same as non Prime xt1625 or does the Prime version have other differences (build, firmware, etc)?
Unlocking the bootloader means that it can support non official software, a custom recovery and after that you can root it, install a custom rom or mostly anything that you can think. But it still an specific branch oh the moto g4 the prime edition. So you can install Nougat from a TWRP, but not directly as an update or any other procedure
4-Can Moto G4 use the same ROMs as Moto G4 Plus? I've seen different answers regarding this matter. Would I have to flash base bands and/or soak test?
The moto G4 plus uses the same Hardware, custom roms can be used in any of those, not official roms
5-Is CM 14.1 (cm-14.1-20161225-NIGHTLY-athene.zip) the latest AOSP ROM for Moto G4?
CM is now gone, the new version of it would be Lineage OS, I personally use Resurrection Remix as my daily driver, it has TONS of customizations and it tells you whenever an update it's available.
Be carefeul with installing anything on your phone just have always a recovery back up in the micro sd and on a usb o pc available in case anything went wrong.
Hope this could help
Pardon my english.

Sorry for the stupid question. I have checked in the system settings for a new update but it says I'm on the latest patch. I've also heard that there may not even be a security patch available for the retail US XT1625 and it should still be on MPJ24.139-48, is that true?
I've checked the Motorola website and it seems there is an update that I don't have. I don't really know what I'm doing and I don't want to void my warranty by flashing a newer stock image, if that even does void it.
If there's anything I can do, I would appreciate the help. Thank you.

No, MPJ24.139-64 is the latest stock firmware. Not sure why you aren't getting it, unless you are on a custom recovery. That would prevent you from getting the update. I too have the XT1625 and I had to return my device to stock recovery before I received the update. There is a thread somewhere in the forum (might be in G4+) that tells you how.
However, if you are on full stock with no modifications then I have no idea why you aren't getting it.
I am indeed on full stock, I just bought this phone factory unlocked last week from a retail store and I really don't know why I haven't received an update for it. Is there any way that I can force it to update without unlocking the bootloader and just flashing the new stock image? I want to receive the Android 7.0 update when that comes out, but I would also like to update to the most recent build.
Can I sideload the OTA without voiding my warranty and also still get the Android N update when it becomes available? If so how?
If you have any answers I would greatly appreciate them.

If you are 100% certain the bootloader is still locked then the only thing I can suggest is to contact Motorola Customer Service and find out why it isn't updating. Or return to the store where you purchased it. But my phone downloaded the update even before I returned to stock recovery. I then saved it to my SDCard, returned to stock, and put the update back in the proper folder. When I rebooted it updated the normal way. Was it unopened when you bought it? Maybe the store did something to affect the update. Also, I am on the USA version and assume you are as well.
It is a USA version.
I already called Motorola customer service and they said that the Moto G4 receives updates in batches and that whether or not I receive the security update is based entirely on my carrier. I have Straight Talk AT&T. I've also tried it with a Sprint SIM card and it didn't update either.
When I brought it back to the store I purchased it from (Best Buy), they said that since it's an unlocked phone it will receive updates directly from Motorola, and it doesn't matter what carrier it's on.

Best Buy is correct. As far as Motorola Customer Service, the answer one gets from to any question depends on who you ask. I have never had to call them, but other users here on XDA have had a wide variety of results. Sometimes calling back and trying a different rep yields better results. Maybe clarifying your phone model/type and the fact you have an unlocked phone would help.
Other than that my friend, I am out of suggestions.
I'm also still on -48. Purchased from Costco.

From all the threads and surfing on different sites I have come to a conclusion that the MPJ24.139-63/64 updates is only for amazon variant , because on the official Motorola site the said update is only for amazon variant . And the latest for non-amazon is the MPJ24.139-48/49

Not sure why you came to that conclusion, but you are dead wrong. I do not have the Amazon variant and I received the update to MPJ24.139-64 via the normal update channel from Motorola. Also, here is a link to the Non-Amazon variant of the stock ROM (-64 version):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/3sqq...LT_CFC.xml.zip
Furthermore, I have a copy of the -64 update blur file (non-Amazon variant) saved to my PC.
Any questions?
Can you share the blur file update?

Okay , but a lot of Moto G4 users are still on MPJ24.139-48 and not getting the update , especially the ones who are on MPJ24.139-49 . I have not read a single comment from a MPJ24.139-49 user that he/she got the july patch to MPJ24.139-63/64 .
There is a person on the official Lenovo Motorola forums where he wrote that he bought two devices from the same retailer and one of the devices got the update immediately to MPJ24.139-64 but the other one is still stuck on MPJ24.139-49 . Can you help me with that .
I have tried to install the blur files available on the forums but it gives the error because the update is for 139-48 users not 139-49 ones . I have also tried to install the Full Stock MPJ24.139-64 but still gives the " wrong footer " error .
Thanks !

I have no idea. All I know is that my XT1625 16 Gbyte USA version updated without any issues from -48 to -64 (back in October). The -49 version is a completely different animal (maybe the G4+) and I have no experience with it. You might check your Software Channel under Settings/About Phone and see which one you are on (I am on the retus Software Channel), but other than that I have no clue, unless the version hardware is different.
Again, you are talking apples and oranges when referring to the -49 version.

Hahahaha .....
Mine is also ( G4 )ATHENE XT1625 RETUS version , not ( G4+ ).
Available firmware versions for XT1625 are :
MPJ24.139-48
MPJ24.139-49 , and
MPJ24.139-64 . You can check on https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/
For some reason a some users got update from -48 to -64 and some got -48 to -49 and got stuck with it . I do not know what is going on . Just hoping to get the NOUGAT UPDATE . I am also very confused about the number system .
I would love to keep this thread going. I am in the same boat. I have a Moto G4 (Non-Plus) XT1625 Retus version. I am still on MPJ24.139-48. If you review Motorola's website...it says the latest version available is MPJ24.139-64. However, I have never received this OTA update. As a matter of fact I have tried to install this firmware from their website before and while it installs I get error crashes.
As far as I can tell from my research, in the US... some users got 64 but a lot of people are still on 48. Any thoughts? I would love to get this solved. Oh! and before you ask NO i don,t own the amazon variant!

Good news this image worked! I am not on mpj25.139-64 :good: thanks.
Now on to the next problem... Relocking the bootloader. Ever since I unlocked it the first time... I have not been able to lock it. It errors out and asks for an official signed image. Which confuses me... Since ever one I've installed (minus the custom Roms ) have been. If anyone here has suggested fix let me know... Otherwise. I'll create another thread so I don't hijack this one.
Thanks again

For that you have to install full stock/factory image which will re-lock your bootloader . But , that will erase all of your data . You can find tutorials on forum , no need to create another thread .

A further reminder to spend the money for sunshine now if you have any desire for an unlocked bootloader. Do not cry here if you take this soak or the ota and can't unlock if you had the opportunity to do so now.
Interesting. Maybe they'll throw us a bone and actually give us some security patches besides the one that stops Sunshine from working.
$10 says it's just a security patch rushed out to block Sunshine. So, EVERYBODY will now rush to install it before unlocking their bootloader.
Motorola Droid Turbo to receive Soak Test; could a surprise Nougat update be on the way?
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Moto...-surprise-Nougat-update-be-on-the-way_id91284
If you own the DROID Turbo, don't get your hopes up too high. These type of surprises rarely ever happen. Additionally, the fact that Motorola wants to rush this Soak Test probably means that the update contains something less earth shattering than a new Android build. Instead, it might offer a few bug fixes or the latest Google security patch.

If your xt1254 (Verizon Droid turbo) has an unlocked bootloader via the sunshine app before now, then you are safe and it is not necessary to purchase sunshine again.
It is best practice not to take OTA's ever, if you prefer having root access to your phone.

Right. That doesn't mean you can't ever install UPDATES. Just wait until the stupid people take the OTA, see what it does.
Then the update will be posted here in XDA -- in many places and you can install them manually. Like the 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware update. It's posted here in XDA as:
the full raw update,
a TWRP flashable version, (flashed with RSD or fastboot)
and was turned into a debloated, tweaked ROM version.
All which could be installed by people with unlocked bootloaders. The latter two could be installed via TWRP custom recovery.
There was never any reason to take the unknown OTA from Verizon, and never will be a reason to do so. If an OTA from Verizon is useful in any way, many, many versions will be posted here with expert commentary on what it does, how to install it. Early version of the 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA bricked Droid Turbos which were encrypted. Verizon/Motorola stopped the OTA for several days. There's NEVER any reason to be the guinea pig for Verizon's incompetence. It's not like they didn't have enough time to test the firmware! The XT1225 got the SAME Marshmallow back in July 2016.

Question about the debloated, tweaked ROM version...what difference will I notice versus stock? Is there anything that doesn't work in the ROM?
Everytime sunshine finds an exploit that unlocks Droid Turbo's bootloader Verizon gives us a new update..
Coincidence? I think not.

It's gotten enthusiastic reviews from users, but would be better for you to go to that link and read the op (first post) and then read the last few pages of comments. Not all the pages, but at least the last 5 or 6.
A couple of us already told you about it in the other thread:
ChazzMatt said:
I know you don't want a "ROM", but you might consider ComputerFreak274's stock-based ROM. It's just de-bloated, tweaked stock Verizon Motorola Marshmallow firmware. Has audio boost and some other stuff too -- battery tweaks, speed tweaks, cache tweaks, etc.
If you are a Verizon user, right now this is the only "ROM" that lets you keep VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling on Verizon.
You can still install Xposed with this, he tells you how to do it in his op.
I'm on Resurrection Remix Marshmallow myself, so I'm not suggesting it because I use it (I have XT1225, not XT1254). I'm suggesting it because it's basically stock firmware the way Verizon/Motorola should have released it. It's a "ROM" for XT1254 Verizon users who don't want full custom ROMs.

Has anyone taken the Feb soak? Anything interesting?
Just got it, it's only a security update. You can check the Droid Turbo Reddit for confirmation, a user there has the same results.
Confirmed by Verizon: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/droid-turbo-update/
Also, I'm downloading it now, and I'm not part of the soak test. I'll capture the OTA and post it shortly.

A "security update" to block Sunshine? [emoji14]
Now that Sunshine unlocks 6.0.1 bootloader?
Figured as much. The people speculating Nougat were delusional. Lenovo/Motorola hasn't even given all the Quarks Marshmallow yet.
My response to a post from this morning in another thread, but relevant to this discussion...

Nougat? Motorola hasn't even released stock Marshmallow for all the Moto Maxx phones yet! The U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 (clone of the XT1254 Droid Turbo in every way -- FCC ID, radio bands) is still on 5.0.2 Lollipop!
None of the Quarks are on the Motorola Nougat list, which was released months ago by Motorola/Lenovo. Would be very unusual to give an unannounced Noguat 7.X update, since Motorola/Lenovo seems to want to do less work -- not more -- regarding updates to their customers.
Motorola announced Marshmallow for Quarks October 2, 2015. WHEN did they deliver it?
XT1225 Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo got it in July 2016 (9 months later),
Took Motorola until December 2016 (13 months) to actually give it to the Droid Turbo XT1254 --
U.S. Moto Maxx still does not have Marshmallow (16 months and counting).
If you want Nougat, unlock your bootloader and flash any of the custom Nougat 7.X ROM we have available. Here's the current custom Nougat (7.x) Quark ROMs to choose from.
[ROM][All Quark][7.x] Resurrection Remix
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL]AOKP 7.x For All Quark
[ROM][Quarks][LOS/CM 14.1 Unofficial][7.1.x][2016-12-30] (hybrid of CM14 and Resurrection Remix)
[ROM][7.1][All quark] crDroid Android

OTA posted. https://forum.xda-developers.com/dr.../ota-marshmallow-build-mcg24-251-5-5-t3565697
Hahahhahaha I know they are lazy....Motorola was good untill it was solo company!!! Lenovo ruined it!!
they won't keep us current, but they can bang out an update to patch sunshine, WTF? it's like they want to say FU to us for using this phone..

Well to be fair, the android security patch version is now dated January 2017, so at least there's that.
Also, at long last, we are finally protected from the Stagefright vulnerability
DD?

Still running (unlocked) stock, what do you recommend as a DD? I really just want it to work and have solid battery life (why I bought this phone 2+ years ago). Is there one of these seen as the most stable? (My days of finding a decent rom for my S3 were a nightmare, no one rom was stable enough to "just work") Thx!

Any of the top three Nougat ROMS on the list have very high reviews. You can go to those threads and ask questions, and see other Droid Turbo owners.
#2 and #3 are maintained by Droid Turbo owners who use Verizon, if that makes a difference to you. But all three are excellent and many Droid Turbo owners are using all three.

However, if you need Verizon VoLTE, then you should go with a debloated, tweaked Marshmallow ROM based on stock Motorola Verizon firmware. See below. It's not Nougat, but right now only stock Motorola Verizon firmware or a ROM based on stock Verizon firmware can get Verizon VoLTE on this phone -- until a dev discovers the secret handshake. (ZTE has discovered the secret handshake for Verizon VoLTE. Now a dev just needs to figure out what they did.)
_________
@computerfreek274 has now released a Marshmallow ROM for the Droid Turbo XT1254 based on the Verizon's belated Marshmallow firmware. He has debloated it, tweaked it. It has Verizon voicemail app, Verizon VoLTE (only works on Verizon), Verizon Wi-Fi calling (only works on Verizon), some volume boost, and battery saving tweaks.

Why athene f instead of athene?
Athene_F is for the Moto G4 Plus (athene is the code name, f for fingerprint sensor, I imagine), whereas athene is for the G4 models.

What do you want, Nougat or Marshmallow?
The install scripts in the updates should detect whether you are athene_f or athene (unless you flashed the wrong firmware in the past, which based on your earlier posts, may has happened).

That's a Marshmallow baseband, but it's reading as .32U, which may indicate flashing the wrong Marshmallow firmware at some point.
Which stock firmwares have you flashed previously, what builds and for what regions? I recall you flashed some builds suggested to you in the other thread.

Who is the system to upload now?
Referring to your other thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/help-t3586344/page6
you were on a marshmallow baseband ending with 62.u. Now you have 32.u...so you must have upgraded your firmware somehow in the last few days.
The baseband version must end with .R
Have you ever tried one of the suggestions in the above thread??
There you were given the fitting stock firmware and the right procedures to flash it.
My advice: go back to the above thread, read, try to understand and try again.
In addition to bullfinch's reply, I'd suggest going back to the stock (i.e. supplied by Motorola) ROMs, as flashing custom ROMs will just confuse matters.
If you've tried the suggestions in the thread above (your original thread), you may wish to have a look into flashing this ROM here https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/XT1642/ It's a stock ROM for XT1642, and looks to be the 139-48 build, which may give you the correct baseband. I've not tried it though, and there's still a chance you may still have the incorrect baseband afterwards.
As always, do a complete flash of a stock ROM if you can via fastboot (you could follow the instructions here, but using the XT1642 ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1643-updated-signed-t3460695), and back up your data.
If you do still get the incorrect baseband, as I suggested a few times, you may have to get your device serviced (contact Motorola in Poland for service centres), which may charge you a fee.
I'm still willing to help. That assumes, that you give answers to questions, made by echo92 before.
And my question is: Is your device detected by your pc if connected in fastbootmode?

So you can try flashing the right firmware (given by echo92) following the steps in the link. Or you try again RSD lite with this firmware (you remember).

Can you check your phonesettings, if there is an OTA firmware update available? Still irritated by the "u" at the end of your baseband. Could yu make a screenshot of your phone status (buildnr, baseband, android versionn)
