Battery calibration or replacement needed? - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Slow charging on custom ROMs forced me to go back to stock ROM and just before moving I was on AOSP extended and battery calibration issue started after flashing this ROM (I m not blaming anyone). So I tried to calibrate battery (after flashing stock ROM) by completely draining battery and charging it to 100%
After charging for whole night in switch off mode, in morning I found it stuck at 96% and after booting and restarting again, battery suddenly dropped down to 70%
So I tried to calibrate it by Pressing power button for 7-10 sec and connecting turbo charger (with official wire too) after screen off and gone to sleep. And I got a nice battery backup next day i.e. (from 100 to 0%) of 4 hours and 15 mins(with a random shut down during call around 24%). But again when I connected charger after complete drainage, just after 30 mins it showed 80% of charge and finally stuck at 95% and after 30 mins, it decreased to 94%. Now battery is again draining and lost 40% in just 24 mins
Note : battery calibration issue started after flashing ROM after clearing INTERNAL STORAGE with system, cache, data, dalvik. I didn't cleared internal storage before flashing any other ROM, may be this is a cause of messed up battery calibration.
Should I appeal for battery replacement or is there any way to calibrate it perfectly. (Currently I m on locked bootloader)

As somebody has told you already, use the root method of calibration, by clearing the battery stats file (or something like). Of course, you need to unlock your bootloader. I doubt flashing a ROM or erasing a partition can cause your battery to go bad.

In addition, which stock ROM did you flash (I recall seeing your posts in the 93-14 thread)? Was that test you performed with a fresh flash, nothing else installed besides the stock apps?
Bear in mind that with Nougat, your battery usage might be quite high after the first boot (either after a clean flash or a wipe cache/Dalvik) as the system rebuilds the caches. That being said, 40 % drainage in 24 minutes is quite unusual.... Your battery experience is sounding like the Nexus battery failures, with the random shutoff and other symptoms (for which it seemed a solution was to RMA under warranty).
Still, I'd like to see what your phone battery is like with a stock ROM and clean flash, no other apps installed, and monitor the drainage.

I flashed naugat stock firmware. And the battery drainage is not after first boot, it's around 10th boot with 4-5 apps installed
I think apps are not responsible.
Should I try to calibrate again or visit service centre?
And what is RMA?

Okay, that was the fastboot ROM then that you flashed?
Can I request you either wipe your phone back to factory settings (or re-flash the ROM, with wiping everything), reboot and see what your battery life is like, without any other apps besides stock on there please? Can you post battery graphs whilst you're on stock?
RMA = return merchandise authorisation - a form/request that you get to return your phone for a replacement rather than service.
If you wish to follow zeomal's suggestion, yes - you will have to root again.

There is no such thing as battery calibration with newer versions of Android. Once your phone charges to 100% the batterystats.bin file is automatically cleared. Clearing your internal storage should do nothing to the current state of the battery.
This sounds like a defective battery, and I would take it to a Motorola Service Center or purchase a new battery off WitRigs ($20)- although, manually replacing the battery WILL void your warranty.

That's pretty old but still relevant. The battery graphs that you see in Settings>Battery are based on the BatteryStats.bin file. The percentage that you see is based on actual readings from the battery.

I did a factory reset from settings menu and after reset my battery was at 75%. I left it for charging for 2 hours and disconnected. Battery seems little bit better now

Thanks for that - seems your screen is on a lot, but if that's because you're using your device, then I don't see anything out of the ordinary with regards to your battery. Hopefully there's no random shutdown when receiving a call either.

I am facing a similar problem in Moto G4 plus from the day I upgraded to Android 7.0.
The battery percentage stuck at 92% or 95% and as soon as I remove the charger it drops to ~60%
I tried switching off holding power key for 7-8 sec as i read that the battery calibration is done after that. It worked for only one time.
All of this problem happens when charging using Turbo charger.
For now i am using normal charger and battery is charging/discharging normally !!

Battery dies when showing full on 4.3

Hey guys, I'm on 4.3 and I'm rooted with stock recovery. My phone has been getting really weird battery, being that it will show 90% or higher, and then I will pick up my phone and use it for a minute, at which point it will die completely. I then turn my phone back on, and it shows a completely dead battery (I actually have to plug it in before I can turn it on it's so dead). It will NEVER die on its own, only after I pick it up and use it for a minute.
I've read about this problem online, primarily with 4.2 updates. I haven't seen much about this with 4.3. Actually, most people were talking about it being fixed by 4.2.2 so I'm not sure what to do. Other people were talking about RMA'ing their phone, but I have had a third party replace my screen in the past so I'm not sure they will accept an RMA from me at this point.
This happens every day at least once.
Would appreciate any help.
Did the problem occur after you updated to 4.3? If yes, how did you update? (OTA or flashing Google Stock Image)
Try doing a full cycle of the battery (let it die, recharge till 100%), if not working backup your data and reset to factory with Google's images.

OTA, and then I rooted with Wug's Nexus Toolkit
EDIT: I had no issues before the 4.3 update though I will say it seems like this didn't happen for about a week or two after the update. It didn't start happening immediately.

Well it's constantly dying and I definitely recharge it to what it says is 100%. But it seems to get there very fast. Reset to factory with which image? I'm not sure the steps I'd need to take to do that.
Thanks for replying guys.
Update: My phone has been off the charger for about two hours now, yet one app says it's been on battery for three hours, my phone says a different time, the battery settings say I have 91 percent left but the icon in my task bar is totally full and not changing at all.
Well okay, so you didn't do a factory reset after the update, did you? 4.3 was a relatively big update with a lot of changes internally, so a factory reset really is recommended. So I also would do as AlbertoWayfarer said.
So firstly, you have this possibility: Do a factory reset and after this, see if this problem persists. See here:
https://support.google.com/nexus/4/answer/2936226?hl=en-GB
Or secondly, if this doesn't work or if you're under the impression, that something went totally wrong with your update to 4.3, flash the original 4.3 recovery image from Google. You said you used Wug's Toolkit, I saw that it has an option which says "Flash Stock + Unroot". I guess with this tool it's quite easy to flash the image. After you've done that, you have to root your device (if you wanna be rooted again).
Be aware that both of those methods will wipe all of your data, so make a backup of all your data you need again first!
If you are rooted you can backup with TitaniumBackup (backup all system and user apps), then if you want a really clean phone you can copy everything from your sdcard (internal storage) to your pc. Download Google's factory image for mako (4.3 version) and restore to factory with fastboot.
If you copied everything from your sdcard, you can use the flash-all file in the .tar, if not you should flash everything manually.

I had a similar issue.( however mine was kernel related) Full charge, I picked it up for 10 minutes, and clicked the screen off, it wouldn't turn back on so I did a hard reset, and the battery had lost 70%, in a matter of minutes
Sent from my Nexus 4 TMO @1.728 GHz on Stock 4.3.0
I did a factory reset on my phone, but had to wait a little bit because I also had to add some adhesive to my screen because it was going up (I had a screen replacement a few months ago and I believe the climate change due to my move from Ohio to California affected it). This morning I woke up and my phone said almost full battery, then the screen went black and it was dead. Plugged it in and turned it on and it was at 1% charge.
So I will try to flash stock and see what happens.
Flashed back to stock 4.3 and unrooted using the toolkit. Phone showed 98% battery. Played a YouTube video at full brightness off an on for three or four hours, it only dropped four percent. Eventually, it got down to about 80 percent, then my phone froze and died. Plugged it back in, powered it back on, and the battery is showing zero percent.
I don't know what to do at this point. Please help. Should I go back to 4.2? This didn't start happening until 4.3. Will Google replace my phone if I've used a third party to replace my screen? (the back of the device had a crack in it when the touch screen went out and Google refused to take it due to the crack .. on the back ... that was there when I got my phone)
Would love some help on this, if any. Flashed back to stock 4.3, as stated before, and the issue persists. My phone was showing 74% battery and it randomly died when I went to unlock it. It would not power back on until I plugged it in (It did the Google logo, then Nexus logo, then died). When I plugged it in and turned it on, it said 27%. So I don't know what to do at this point. Flash 4.2? Flash a ROM? Change the kernel? I don't know how to do the kernel stuff and I would need some guidance on flashing the rom.
Google wouldn't take my phone for RMA since the screen has been replaced, right? Please advise.
EDIT: It is worth noting that I did get an OTA update from Google today that said it was upgrading me to 4.3 Jelly Bean and mentioned the Keep note-taking app, despite that I checked before updating and I was already on 4.3. But I installed it anyway and this happened (though it did it still before, just not such drastic and off percentages)

Are you getting "red light" at all?
When is the phone supposed to make a red light? I don't believe I have ever seen it. I have read some battery issues with the Nexus 4 where people talk about their phone being totally unresponsive and unavailable to turn on -- that has never occurred with me. Plugging it into the wall always brings it back on. It's like actual battery dying. It's just dying way before it says it's going to and it's making it difficult to gauge how long I'm actually getting.
I did just say screw it, flashed TWRP, put a Rom on and a new kernel just to see what happens. This was like 20 minutes ago. It did seem to charge up really fast after I did that, which might mean the battery is still reporting wrong, though :/
And now I'm pretty certain that the new rom and kernel didn't do anything. Because it charged up super fast and now despite having bluetooth, GPS, and a YouTube video running at full brightness for 45 minutes, it's only dropped 2%, meaning it's definitely reading it wrong. This is so frustrating.
EDIT: Had it go for another ten minutes, picked up my phone and hit the menu button to stop the video, and it died. Now I turned it back on while plugged in and it says 3% - Full for the battery...
EDIT 2: It just went from 3% to 36%. Like there was no middle ground, I actually watched it change from 3% to 36%. And just watched it go from 36% to 40%.
Thank you so much to everyone who has posted thus far and here's to hoping ya'll can help me some more.
How old is your phone? These seem to me to be telltale signs of a bad battery. From what I know about the N4, the battery can be purchased and replaced manually.

Mine was jumping like yours except 100 to 30 range and shut off. What I did was opened the phone unscrewed the battery and connected it back. I left the screws out. Took about three days of doing this until I
Found the sweet spot the connector liked. I would plug it in(battery) and push on the ribbon cable towards the connector in the gap between the battery and the housing. I'm going on two weeks now without the spikes. I also (placebo) deleted battery stats a couple of times for s's and giggles. Seeing as how I was never hitting 100% only 99%
I got this phone for next to nothing and had a hell of a time getting it functional. Mic not working red light and battery spikes.
After all the workarounds I'm loving it. Well minus the downgrade of LTE.... I'm on att, but I can live with that.

Very simple. Google "nexus 4 teardown". I used a light gauge guitar pick instead of the pry tool. I noticed if you do the power button corner last its a lot easier getting the back off.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I went ahead and bought a new battery since they were cheap. Can anyone advise as to what the best practices are with this new battery out of the box?
I mean, do I put it in, charge it all the way, then turn it on? Do I put it in, let it discharge, turn it off ... or anything wiping battery stats? As detailed as you can, please. Thanks.
Same thing happened to me 10 minutes ago.

[Improvement] How my battery life got doubled!!

Hello,
Introduction

I was only getting about 3h 45m @3%
Now you can see that I got 3h 47m @51% (Very Happy)

After:
When I was @9% , my screen time was 7h
Screenshots:
That's nearly twice my old results
Now, I'll talk about what I did...
It's all about calibrating my battery
I knew that my battery needs to be calibrated when I had these symptoms:
1- I was able to get a full charge in about 2h 9m (Now it takes up about 3h 30m)
2- I could use my tablet for about 2 hours while I was stuck at 1% !! (see the post mentioned in the intro)
3- When I play any game while I'm below 50% of battery, it simply jump by big values, sometimes it reaches 15% suddenly and I get the recharge message
4- My tablet was new, and I couldn't get more than 4 hours while others could get about 7-9 hours!!
What I did:
1- Fully discharged my battery, I stayed for about 2 hours playing movies, the tablet turned off, then I could run it again and still see 1%... did it again until one time it turned off immediately after running it (I saw that battery was 0%, it was the first time to see that)
2- Did a fully continuous charge and didn't unplug it
3- Installed Battery Calibration app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration
4- Unplugged AC, then clicked "Battery Calibration"
5- Fully discharged the battery (didn't use any draining apps, just normal use)
It was about the same result
6- I disabled all of the battery saver apps (even Greenify) except Bataria (It really makes difference for me)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jappka.bataria
I also installed Lux Auto Brightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux
Finally I've installed 2x Battery later, I'll report the results back soon:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.aDataOnOff
6- After 2 fully charging and discharging, my battery life was about the double
And that was after the first cycle:
It improved on the next one and I got 7h
Good luck everyone

6- I disabled all of the battery saver apps (even Greenify) except Bataria (It really makes difference for me)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jappka.bataria
I also installed Lux Auto Brightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vito.lux
Finally I've installed 2x Battery later, I'll report the results back soon:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.a0soft.gphone.aDataOnOff
6- After 2 fully charging and discharging, my battery life was about the double
And that was after the first cycle:
It improved on the next one and I got 7h
Good luck everyone

That's Great :good:
Thanks for sharing, but I think the info is partially inaccurate.
Lithium-ion batteries do need calibration (http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/battery_calibration), and thank you for pointing out that it's convenient to do it after flashing a new ROM, I didn't know that, so thanks again
The app you linked has the following in its description:
"Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file."
There's evidence on XDA stating that the batterystats.bin has nothing to do with battery calibration, and the source of such evidence comes from Dianne Hackborn, Android developer for Google. The thread I linked is not the only one reporting that.
So it seems to me that yes, you do need recalibration from time to time (I'm going to do it soon), but no, you don't need to do all that, in fact it would be enough to fully discharge and recharge the device.

I'm not questioning the fact that it worked, but the number of required steps. It doesn't look (to me) like you're doing something wrong, but it rather looks (to me) like you're doing something unnecessary. However that's just my opinion, the final proof would only be obtained by trying each combination of steps on multiple devices and ain't nobody got time for that.

What I know about the batterystats.bin is that it stores data about your battery consumption, right?
When I was getting 4h when my battery hits 5%, I could get another 2 hours stuck at 1% (as mentioned)
Don't you think that may helped to store more accurate data about what the battery is capable of?
Or maybe when I removed the stats file and drained my battery normally for the first time without heavy usage also helped giving better data?
I'm just trying to figure it out somehow

I think what helped you was battery recalibration, which was obtained by draining it completely and then fully recharging.
"Batterystats.bin" stores the data that's shown in the "Battery" section of the settings and gets wiped every time charge gets to 100%, so an app that deletes might not be bad, but rather pointless. The data collected in batterystats.bin is different from the information about the charge of the battery, which is the one that was affecting you.

HA this is funny... Now that I read this. Unfortunately I do not have a link, but you can google for it.
Google states that resetting or calibrating the battery performance on Android does not work any better than leaving it alone.
Google: Battery Status Resetting Google. I am sure you will find it.
It is possible that your media was the issue. All you had to do is use Battery in the system to verify what activities were draining before and after.
I have a thorough thread on battery drain in the Q&A section. Take note, I did not recommend doing any battery optimization or resetting.
If any thing allowing the battery to drain down to 20% before charging to 100% should be good enough to allow the system to properly adjust for charge and discharge time.

What part do you find find in particular? Anyway, I read that every once in a while (once in more than 3 months) Li-ion batteries should be recalibrated, whether they power an Android device or a toaster. Meanwhile, it is wrong for the battery to discharge it completely every single time: it is better to do 20% wide cycles.
My main source is http://batteryuniversity.com/, but I found the same things over and over again in multiple places. I'm aware it might as well mean nothing, but one's got to believe in something

Ok, what was funny is everyone wants to think the battery is so problematic. Have older devices with Li Ion batteries, and the only issue I have is how the device may lock the usb until shutdown. I wait a minute after full power down before connecting a USB charge cable. As for charging when the device is on, I leave the device connected to the charger when powering on.
Google developed Android and its features to monitor battery charge / discharge state. I will look for you the article from Google about such things as using apps to tune battery or clearing the battery log.
Here is some reading for you on the the xda site... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170039

That says that wiping battery stats (=deleting batterystats.bin) does not affect the battery life and that it doesn't help recalibrating the battery, because in fact the file batterystats.bin gets automatically deleted every time the charge percentage gets near 100% (it does not even need to reach it), and it only has to do with the battery usage stats in the settings app. I repeated that a number of times already.
In other words: that thread says that wiping battery stats to get more battery life is a myth, which is the same thing that I said earlier, quoting the same Google engineer. Recalibration of any Li-ion battery is a whole other thing.

Appearently some Note 8's batteries are problematic: it's not normal for it to last hours at 2%.

I believe (I'm not sure, I didn't spend days studying this) that the deepest battery monitoring is up to the battery itself: it's the battery that tells its charge percentage to the device, therefore Google has little to do with it. Recalibrating is something "deeper" than the OS, or at least that's what I understood...
Moreover, "standard" miscalibration normally accounts for some 2-5%, not hours of charge as in the OP's case (I hope it's not "our" case...), so that's why many people had never had any trouble with it.
Anyway, please mind that everything I say comes from superficial reading and experience, I didn't study the matter.

Battery reading issues

Hey everyone. So I bought a second hand note 4 recently and have been having battery problems.
I did a full wipe install of CM13 and the battery dropped to 0% at random times and I had to plug it in the charger for the phone to even boot as it would just restart as soon as it turned on. Anyway, i thought this is probably due to faulty battery. I purchased another one and now this one doesn't reboot at random times but seems like the phone keeps reading the battery percentage wrong, sometimes it doesn't charge over certain percent, just gets stuck at 77% or 63% or any percentage really. If I remove the battery and plug it back in, it shows a completely different percentage everytime. I have tried wiping battery stats, do a full discharge/charge, nothing seems to help. Battery drains fairly fast too, once I manage to get it to 100% it shows that expected time is like 2-3hrs if screen on. Thanks!

battery displaying different percentage after u remove it and put it back in is normal i have 3 note4s all do the same (up to 10 percentage change, it either increases or decreases) but the other issues like getting stuck on a certain percentage are not normal make sure u have the genuine battery and try stock rom.
yeah, i tried stock and the same thing really. such a random issue. I just noticed that battery charges once I turn the screen on and use it , so it only gets stuck on random percent only with screen off.

yeah, i said I wiped battery stats, which is basically recalibration
once the battery is charged to 100% it also drops first 10-20% really fast and then it gets better but still I only get around 2hrs screen time

Oops my bad..Didn't read your whole post...
the only way to fix this replace your battery by new one
i tried all options (Format ROM - Wipe battery status - Getting back to stock ROM - Unroot - re Celebrate apps - Changing recovery-Removing battery from device for while sleeping - charge without fast charge - charge via USB)
i asked myself after that all of this headache doesn't worth 20$, i replaced the battery with new one and its working fine now

yeah, i replaced battery as well but it's still the same issue. old one at least charged fully but would randomly reboot on me, the new one doesn't reboot but drains extra fast and doesn't always charge fully. can't believe both batteries are faulty
I am sorry for summoning this old post but did you find any solution to your problem? I have exactly the same experience with my note 4.
Thanks!
Is there a solution for this problem?
Power down and then out-and-in same battery and my stuck-at78%... was 100% when started.
if you having problems with auto restarting.... download the app " WAKE LOCK" and put it on Partial Wake Lock setting... your restarts will be a thing of the past.

N910c battery issues?

Hi people.
DISCLAIMER:
-N910C
-Without any kind of modification (no root, custom kernal, boot recovery etc)
-Android 5.1.1 (XME) (N910CXXU1COJ5) (latest update provided by samsung as of 3rd May 2016)
-Original Samsung charger and usb cable, both charger and usb cable in good condition (just so you know asking me to change my charger, I tested it by charging my other samsung devices -- no problem)
Let me jump straight into my problem and hoping that someone would be able to help me.
The phone stop charging at 88% / 89% / 91% / 92%
How I know they stopped charging at the percentages mentioned? Plugged it in before sleep, 5-6 hours later it stuck at one of the percentages mentioned, most commonly 91%. Check the battery usage graph and it shows a straight horizontal line at 91% and onwards, and indicates like 13minute until full charge which it never happen. The device and the charger is not warm/hot, you know when they are charging they tend to get a little bit warmer.
Not always, meaning not everytime I charge my phone then it stopped charging at the percentage mentioned above. However, I would say it is about 8 out of 10 times. I read a lot of articles else where saying the same issue but different device. They came to a conclusion saying that is a hardware defect. Which, I do not think so (At least I hope it isn't). None of them mentioned if they charge their device with it power off or not.
So I tested it out a few times, both with the device on as well as with the device off. I noticed that with the device off, it can charge from 0% to 100% no problem (fast charge or not, same). So I would like to draw a hypothesis myself, it would be a software issue, I've no idea what but apparently some software bug/issue stopped it from charging further.
Not forget to mention that the battery constantly dropped straight to 0% when it reaches 5% (faster than vin diesel man), and sometimes it drops to 0 from around 5 - 20%.
Reformat, clear data, wipe cache, done it thrice = same issues remained. I also use some of the methods claim to be able to 'calibrate' the battery without root, also no cure to the current problems.
All these problems came along after the 5.1.1 update is what I am believing now. So I tried to downgrade it back to 5.0.1/4.4.4.
Guess what, I found out that Samsung locked the bootloader starting from 5.1.1, which prevent me from downgrading.
So my questions are:
1. Do anyone has any idea how to unlock the bootloader in android 5.1.1 without triggering any sort of knox counter?
2. Have anyone experienced/experiencing the problem, any solutions?
3. Have anyone tried 6.0.1 marshmallow? Do you have any problem as mentioned above? This will serve as an alternative if there is no way to unlock the bootloader in 5.1.1.
4. Can you downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1?
Thanks for your time.

Facing the same issue. Got a new battery. Its no different.
I'm on an N910C using 6.0.1 (have also been on 4.4.4 and 5.1.1) and have never experienced this problem. I never use fast charging, always wireless charge and occasionally via USB. Recently got a new Samsung battery directly from Samsung UK (my old one was 18 months old, still performing well but not quite getting my usual 6hrs SoT any more, so it was time for a replacement). The new one charges to 100% every time (whether the phone is on or off), and drains down to 1% as you would expect, with no 'jumps', before shutting down - not that I do that regularly, because as far as I know that's not a good way to treat lithium ion batteries. To eliminate battery itself as the cause, I would recommend getting a new battery direct from Samsung to make sure it is genuine, or perhaps try an Anker.

I bought this phone last year in july and everything was going pretty smoothly until the nougat update. It completely broke my phone.
MY PHONE GETS FULLY CHARGED IN 30-45 MINS(OBVIOUSLY A BUG).
BATTERY DRAIN IS TERRIBLE, FROM 100% TO 15-20 % IN MAXIMUM 1 HOUR.
PHONE GETS SHUT DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN AND SHOWS WRONG BATTERY PERCENTAGE.
Now let me tell you all what I have tried to fix this and STILL TRYING. -_-
In January 2017 tried methods like factory reset, clear cache partition etc, nothing works.
Now this month I thought of going back to MM to fix the problem l, that too didn't work.( I downgraded using fastboot)
Again updated to nougat and rooted my phone for the first time, and tried some popular custom recovery. Result = No change what so ever.
Tried Elementalx kernel = No results.
Currently using the Lineage OS 14.1 latest version ( heard it's the most stable CM) = no change even after using some battery optimising apps like greenify.
Attaching battery info screenshot for reference.
If anyone found out any fix to this problem then please tell me. I feel like throwing this piece of **** in the garbage.
PS - while writing the question my battery drained almost 10%

There's always a chance if it's a hardware failure of the battery. It depends on the service center. You should give it a try.

Did you get the battery drain issue resolved? My g4 plus is having a same issue after bought it a year but rarely use it....now after lightly used for about 15 mins, battery is down 10%. Any help is appreciated.

What firmware do you have on your device? Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? How strong is your signal?
You may wish to download Better Battery Stats (free version here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 ) or GSAM Battery Monitor to check if there's any apps or processes draining your battery.
Alternatively, as others have suggested, if there's no obvious draining apps, it could be a firmware issue (try a clean, complete firmware flash) or a battery issue.

1. What firmware do you have on your device? I have the original unrooted stock rom running Android 7.0 and just checked no update needed.
2. Do you have any apps besides the standard stock apps (e.g. Google apps) on your device? The G4 plus is showing i have 133 app installed and currently running Nova Launcher.
3. How strong is your signal? I am setting it at Airplane mode while turning wifi on just to listen to music and surf the web.
I will download the Better Battery Stats and GSAM Battery Monitor to monitor the battery performance.
Thanks for your reply.
A possible cause is that the connector between battery and motherboard is loose (so that the accu cannot give full power to the motherboard). To fix this, you need to open your phone with a t4 torx screwdriver and tweezers (look for the instruction videos on this on youtube). Disconnect and reconnect the battery cable connector to the motherboard and make sure it is well fixed.
In my case this worked like a charm, I also noticed that next to the battery having normal behavior again, the phone was also much faster. Apparently the processor speed was also tuned down as the battery could not give full power before applying this fix. Saved me 25 / 70 / 230 euros (new battery / new battery with service costs / new phone)

Thanks a lot Rinthros for your solution. My Moto G4 Plus caused same issue after having overnight charging for two consecutive nights. 2nd day morning I realized that my phone discharged with normal use in only 1 hour. And after get fully charged in only 30 minutes. It felt very sad but then found this solution by Rinthros. I did exactly the same. Opened my phone with t4 for screwdriver and disconnected battery connectors and just reconnected it. It worked for me exactly smooth and amazing. Now after doing so from last 3 days my phone working as it was previously.
Thanks a lot for your solution Rinthros.
:fingers-crossed::good:
I too had the same problem but actually this occurs after updating it to Oreo my battery is not fully charging and after unplugging battery percent remains same got stuck after 1hr of usage device gets shutdown due to low battery all these problem are only in stock Oreo so I downgraded to marshmallow everything works fine after a battery calibration I dont know what was the problem on Oreo guys pls help me to fix it
Thanks a lot Rinthros. My battery was original from 2016 and tired. I decided to buy a new and followed an instruction on the net. After a day or two I noticed rapid drain and quick charge . In the end I had 30 min of use before I needed to charge again. I opened the unit and, for sure, the connection between battery and motherboard was loose. Fixed this and this was very successful. Two hours later, after re-charge, my Moto 4 is still on 94%. My theory is that a floor-drop caused the disconnect. I visited another forum in search for a solution, but nothing helped. I think this solution applies to other versions of Moto. Please Lenovo, listen to Rinthros, this can save you a lot of customers. Moto is a greate phone and deserves better support.
