Android 7.1 release date - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Anyone knows when it will happen? Craving for faster picture saving and lower touch latency (having touch issues when pulling down notification Bare from lock screen)

Damn, they are taking their sweet time with the update... Typical Android... sloooow updates, unlike stock Android and ios meanwhile the Xperia X will get the 7.1.2 update in the coming week, according to Android police....

Meanwhile, over here in XDA's development channel, you can see 4 ROMs based off 7.1.
While not "official", it's something to consider.

I have the touch latency issue with the pull down bar on lockscreen, so this is firmware related?

I wonder if the update will fix the bluetooth track info and track control issues.

5.1 Update coming early 2015

Just read on android pit.com
Our source has informed us that Android 5.1 will be launched by the end of February 2015, and a second, completely separate source that is also privy to important information regarding Android updates, confirmed it. Not only that, this is allegedly a rather large update with many interesting new features! See the changelog below:
Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
General improvements in system stability
Improved RAM management
Fixes for sudden app closures
Improved battery management
Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
Issues with wireless connections fixed
Problems with Okay Google function solved
Notifications problems solved
Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
Other improvements and changes
Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
So far there is no information about functions that it might bring, but we'll be sure to report on those as soon as we hear it.
Android 5.0 was a fantastic update, however it did bring its own list of issues, which we covered how to fix in our Android 5.0 Lollipop common problems and solutions article. That being said, Android 5.1 could get rid of many of the problems we saw here!

I wonder if that means ok Google will finally work with all aosp roms. I've tried the suggested fixes and the best I've been able to get is it works on any screen but not with screen off. Kind of defeats the purpose when you are trying to use it hands free while driving.
i'll believe it when i see it from Google...

The only ROM I've seen that OK google works with screen off is sinless ROM, because its based off of googles IMG rather than aosp. Pretty solid ROM, you should give it a shot.
I'm really pumped for the Other improvements and changes. I've been wanting this feature for a long time.

As far as I can tell and this being my first Nexus device, development is rather slow. Also to me the whole lollipop android seems very unpolished and lack luster. So many fixed things that cannot be changed without a lot of people in this community doing a lot of work. Simple things like hiding navigation bar and being able to select what one wants on the navigation bar are sorely missing and should be standard on Android. No notification LED, what the ****, even my HTC HD2 had that working and available, in fact that phone was one of the easiest and most customizable phones I've ever owned.
There are so many seemingly standard and simple things that seem to have been left out and on top of that locking the bootloader from the get go just does not scream please feel free to customize me. I thought the Nexus would be a device that, like android would support open source and many wonderful improvements by community users. I don't know, but if I was not told this is a Nexus device, I would swear it was a branded phone of a much less expensive manufacturer. I will keep it until the next update, but if they don't add even the most basic features, and some open source customizations ability to it, I guess I will have to leave the fold. Yes, this phone did not make me a fan of any kind. Nice specs, but not utilized to their full potential and one of the worst experiences out of the box. Makes me appreciate the polish of Samsung, HTC, LG and others.

Slow amigo? We got root and ROMs and twrp all in less time than Samsung devices simply to get root.
Polish takes more than 1 month since hardware release. This device is brand spanking new on an entirely new and unfamiliar code base.
I had a note 4. It's a great phone feature wise however performance wise the nexus blows it out of the ball park. No lag whatsoever, i do hear the odd crackle from the speaker when starting it up and when the unlock/lock sound plays but that's it. Hope the sound improvements mentioned in the change log will address that. Looking forward to it.

sweet that means I'll get 5.1 on my nexus 6 same time as I get 5.01
I hope this is true.
I'm hoping that the color palate change will add a darker material design. I always like the holo dark, and switching to the high contrast material design was pretty big. I like in google keyboard you can change it to dark material in the settings, but I'd like to see that on a stock ROM. (I'm waiting for a big ROM like CM, PA, Slim, or Omni to release stable, because I love the features, but I require ota )

I have the crackle to, thought it was another feature. Just like the disabled LED. It also does that when it's been asleep for a while and someone calls. The ring tone is distorted until the phone? wakes. Let's hope? that many people here will work long and hard to make this phone? better.

How is his post a fanboy post? It's literally spot on. The Nexus 6 is BRAND NEW. I mean, the phone went on pre-order late October and very few have been able to get their hands on one because of it's unavailability. Despite that, we have plenty of action going on in development. It seems like you haven't bothered to check.
Also, reading your posts lately on the forum, it seems like you 'ignore' everyone that disagrees with you. Then you call others 'fanboys'.
Anyone see a problem with that?
I would love to see official supported notification LED or improved ambient display. So I wanna have a recognizable notification method of i don´t stare permanently on my mobile and don´t have to pick up.

Seems really odd that Google releases a dark version of android back in version 4.0 but uses LCDs on their reference phones, but now they release 5.0 with bright colors and use AMOLED. It seems it should have been reversed.

5.1.1 Existence has been leaked, what do we want?

So 5.1.1 was leaked on a Google Dev page today (Source)
What would we want to see in this Lollipop update for the N6 seeming we know nothing about whats coming?
Me personally? A bit better battery life (I think the second .1 indicates new kernel?) and to clean up some of the bugs.

probably nothing beneficial for the N6... looks like it's only going to be for the N7 and N9... much like the 5.0.2 release was never "official" for the N6.
If its truly LMY47S, then it is not really 5.1.1.
That has the same build date code as 5.1.
I want faster responding sensors. Auto dimming, proximity sensor for phone calls sped up. Damn thing takes forever! As does auto rotate.
Want a rocketship for blasting off to Mars! Seems my Nexus6 has about everything else!
I'd like my battery to last over 9000 minutes of screen on time.
Three wishes, and none of them for an iPhone, M9, or S6.
Better battery optimization, improved camera and radio, and ability to switch to a dark Material theme.
Performance improvement for Camera, Dialer and occasional dropped frames in animations.
I would like google to unlock the notification led xD
Faster booting up and more options when shutting down.
Screen resolution options.
That's it for now, only had it for 2 days. Still learning about lollipop, I came from an galaxy s3.
Sexy wallpaper
- Notification lights back by default (non-rooted)
- (Better) hardware encryption for faster boot-up
Fix the carkit a2dp crashing when connected to a Bluetooth low energy device. I should not have to put my moto 360 in airplane mode every time I drive my car...

To you and others in this thread - You're on XDA and many of the feature requests are available in most custom ROMs. "I don't run rooted ROMs" or "I'd like those features to be in stock ROM" will probably be your reply, to which I will say, why are you commenting on a developer / Android customization forum?

Why would Google implement something that is unnecessary and could cause problems? There hasn't been any need to close apps for quite a few iterations of android (actually an understatement)
With all these 'new' versions I find it interesting that N7 seems to be the problem child they can't get right.

Well it's using a tegra chip. All other nexus are using Qualcomm chips. Minus the 9 which is also late to the party.
The N6 is already a great device. What would make it stand above the rest is for it to be natively as smooth and lag free as the N5 is and to add some minor battery life improvements.

LG G3 Marshmallow Impression

Hi Guys,
As you all know,On 30th Dec 2015, LG started Marshmallow(6.0) update for our beloved LG G3 starting from Poland.
Lets discuss the initial impression here.
Those(lucky guys) who have upgraded their G3 to Marshmallow, can post their initial impression here.
Tell us the performance, speed,Battery life(SOT) improvements.
Also,Any new feature worth mentioning? Also,If anything missed by LG.
And what is your expectations form Next update.
So..lets get started.
P.S. - Moderators,If you find this tread as redundant,Pls. feel free to close this.
Also,General marshmallow discussion is going on here http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/lg-g3-android-marshmallow-discussions-t3216143
So,please post only impressions here.
Thanks,
WaveGuru
Very first impressions (1 hour after flashing)
Good:
1. The animations are much smoother compared to stock lolllipop
2. Loving the new UX4.0
3. They finally fixed the lock screen notifications slide down function (now you can slide down to expand all lockscreen notifications)
Bad:
1. Knock code is so cumbersome now that you need to have 6 taps in 3 different areas
2. I still prefer stock android lockscreen to LG lockscreen
the performance is off the chart battery life is laso awesome.with normal usage i almost got 6 hours of SOT.i miss the lg gallery hide feature.they removed it in marshmallow.i hope they put it in next update.other all good.and laso camera is faster and better than before.thats all.you wont be disappointed with this upgrade.no bugs so far.its rock stable man.
I am impressed with fluidity, no more UI crash, and battery life is great.
Guys dont get me wrong about my question but..Are we all talking about the Android M Oficial Stock Rom or any other custom moded? If yes drom where you have downloaded it ?
Its about Android M, officially released by LG only for Poland.
Refer link in first post to know what, where, how to get Android M in ur G3.
Flashed yesterday on twrp.
1) Amazing Fast UI, seems to be with Nova
2) Fantastic Transitions
3) Expandable Notifications
4) No LG Home Crash or Reboot or Hanging
Too shame only to be on lollipop modem, i can't wait to flash the M one

Even i am waiting for it to be officially released to international versions....
A great new feature which i missed badly "Switch to 4G when internet unavailable with WIFI"
Any changes in display saturation??As LG removed saturation few months after the G3 release.
And Display looks under saturated now.
Thanks,
WaveGuru
Rock stable and very fluid UI compared to Lollipop. I can't say anything about battery life yet, but as users above say it is good then it must be a positive thing to note about as well
Although the Knock Code passcode now requires you to have at least 6 taps, which is kind of weird as I'm used to my 4-tap pattern before.
That's all Happy New Year to everyone!
Camera improved.
Battery life improved.
UI is fast.
No lags noticed till now.
What are this wifi problems some peoples are facing? Is this a general problem or only some people
Hi guys. One thing. What about messaging on 6.0 update? Is there a lag on tapping conversations? Because on lollipop it takes about 1 second until conversation opens.. One more thing, any changes on keyboard?
Thank you for your replays
Good:
Beautiful UI
A lot faster than LP
Excellent battery
Bad:
Animations are as laggy as lollipop, i really wanna know how they can make 6.0 laggy, that's a shame.
i have no lag on messaging at all keyboard is great
UI is fluid
all in all marshmallow has made my G3 even better loving it.
I have tried it and got back to v21a since i couldn't install some apps and gps takes forever to lock...
Loved ui and smothness but to use phone everyday v21a is pretty ok...
Oversharpening still present?

Android 7.0 Nougat Update No Longer available.

The update for the Android 7.0 Nougat, Customized AU 32.3.A.0.372 - has been pulled from the update server and is no longer available.
Would be rather interested in the reason why is has been pulled again...
The rumors say mainly because of the audio bug with low speaker volume
Sony have acknowledged it:
“We were made aware of reports from some users experiencing inconsistencies related to audio playback via third-party apps and SD card encrypted data read performance, after upgrading to Android 7.0, Nougat. We’ve identified the root cause and are aiming to provide corrective firmware and re-commence the rollout as soon as possible.”
This is good news and hopefully we will get stable, much less buggy releases after a while. I am willing to wait even a whole month just to make sure the release is stable and well-tested, that it has resolved issues with heat emissions, general SoT usage and memory load, and battery optimization.
It's better to wait and get something decent rather than to rush and get the buggy builds. I advise against installing the non-approved versions, you will likely get audio issues, maybe even corrupt your SD card contents.

Yep. It'll still work.
It would be really interesting to get official status information from Sony about the Nougat bugs and the progress of fixing them... More than 3 weeks has passed and still no new update or even proper official word from them.
(I try to keep up with the official Sony channels and 3rd party news sites etc. but I might have missed some information, official or otherwise. Feel free to chime in if you know something.)
Today I got "Android system update is available" notification.
But when I clicked it, it says "System up-do-date", refreshing does not change anything
Even worse - I can't even remove this notification...
I am facing the audio volume bug too. No high temperature or other problems found.
Only the fingerprint scanner is crappy as always. 6/10 tries is a miss...
Also I dislike the new quicksettings tiles... 4 taps instead of 2 in order to enable 4G + mob data.
Also the X over the signal bars when mobile data are disabled is misleading....

May Security update..

I must say I'm rather impressed being the X is an older phone yet it receives the new security updates rather quickly.. Just got May's update..

Initially X was never part of ANdroid 8 when sony released software binaries. however it was last minute include. the line was drawn at X-perf
It feels good how finally Android 8 is running stable on X however as daily driver and with burden of social apps. X starts lagging and overheats as you said! , many functions and camera don't work.

That's only a problem of YOUR PERSONAL device. My X is neither lagging nor overheating even in a hot situations (tested in my bathroom with 41 gradus temperature, runs great). I don't have any problems with my X, neither all my X users I know from 4PDA. So stop telling people that Oreo is bad when YOUR device overheats and lags, please.
I suggest you to visit some local repair shops and ask them for checking your cooling system.

I own two Xperia X, Black and Lime, so there goes your argument.
also its not my personal opinion and as Hardware there is NOTHING wrong with Xperia X. we are talking about software part.
I have tried my Black X with Omnirom 7.1.1 and 8.1 and the same X has
1. Amazing Batter Life
2. No overheating
3. no Lagging
4. Camera works perfect and records 4K
since you are using my modded kernels and ROOT ACCESS allows you to modify Oreo by having different modes in Magisks and/or control bloatware etc.
I would suggest you to flash oreo .2.70 right-away and use untouched for one weak with all the bells ringing and we will see

Due to the following features I am using Oreo (XGEN) build on .2.50
1. Better Screen Resolution/Tone ( the tint in Oreo on screen is soothing to eyes as compare to N)
2. Cleartype ScreenFonts
3. Nighlight
4. Notification settings options and panel
5. Setting Menu simplified (a bit better than Nougat)
-- however these are all UI and cosmetic affects
I was happier and relaxed on the final build .252 (came dec17) android 7.1.1. I kept switching back to .252 after trying first two Oreo builds which I found horrible in terms of battery life & overheating; and its not just me, many user reported the same on various posts (in and out of XDA forums) about how after upgrading to Oreo they are facing overheating and battery drain issues. when X overheats it starts lagging.
10April18 build .2.50 (third attempt) has been quite better than its predecessor builds but still can't compete with dec17 build .252.
REMEMBER, my comparison / observation is on ROOTED Xperia-X

A post was on xda did mention last year how Sony has announced to discontinue X and Xc when it was just on 7.0 only! back then everyone was hoping that it should get atleast 7.1, if not Oreo!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-x/how-to/futur-x-t3614147 <------check yourself
also sony added X, Xp and Xc later in 2017 for Oreo! the original cutoff was til XZ project only! X family was not part of it inicially

I can't remember the original roadmap, but I can't trust XDA as well. So there you may be right.
UPD: You are wrong. It was included in the list from the start: proof, not updated. Wayback Machine link provided as well.
P.S. What a ridiculous source of the info - just a random guy.

Do you need my FHD 60 FPS video recorded on X without any additional cooling systems? I can provide one.

I have the same on stock Oreo, everything except the first point. OmniROM (and k4.4 in general) are more optimized.

since you are using my modded kernels and ROOT ACCESS allows you to modify Oreo by having different modes in Magisks and/or control bloatware etc.
I would suggest you to flash oreo .2.70 right-away and use untouched for one weak with all the bells ringing and we will see

Nice challenge!)
I'd like to accept it, but since I was already using Oreo on locked bl (before your kernel was released for 5121), I can share some thoughts. It was running stable, maybe camera was a little bit worse than I expected. No overheat (was it because of a winter?), no lags, no anything. It was a clean and stable ROM. So...
But thanks for the idea of challenge like this. I have a guy with untouched X, so maybe he will tell something there.
over-heating
Hi Guys,
My Xperia-X is replaced in this may month in warranty.
After replaced I am feeling too much overheating.
From the first day, I have an update to latest may security update.
Now I don't know this over-heating is due to may update or again I got faulty hardware by Sony.
What about you guys do you feel over-heating especially after may update?
Hey folks, heads up June update is out and about..
