Shocked and disappointed to know that the XDA members are not working in the G3.
One month (or more) after the device was out, no custom recovery has been published, no one has published a post of CM, OmniROM or other ROM that isn't based on LG UI.
I think maybe I made a mistake buying this phone.

I'm develop apps.
Don't know how to make a ROM.
Starting to feel the same way with the lack of roms available for the handset.
I'm sure we will get more support tho, the g2 was quite well supported so fingers crossed is just a waiting game.
Surly cyanogenmod will support the g3 as they cover so many devices.

 OP do you not understand the phone isn't even released in the USA? It won't be yet for another two weeks, I bet most of the developers that will work with this phone will be in the USA region (who will have to bypass locked bootloader)
Be patient and stop having buyers remorse so soon. Also note that LG is not as popular as Samsung phones so it will take a little more time.

This, plus it JUST was released in the UK - which many of the developers are likely from as well. Also, it's likely this will be more popular than the S5 in the states as well so developer support should be booming.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)

I've ported the philz recovery to the G3 but i cannot find the right way to start it since the bootloader is locked and the loki way don't work. We need to find a way to bypass the lock and then the development will start quickly.
I hate threads like this.

The phone has been out just over a week in the EU and is not out in the US at all yet, that more or less leaves just the Asian members to develop and the Asian crowd on XDA is a lot smaller than the EU and US members!

LG G4 has been out for the same amount of time the Galaxy s6, yet the S6 has endless amounts of custom ROMs and all kind of tweaks, while our ROM forum sections are virtually empty. May someone colaborate on what the problem is? Because thats the only thing keeping me from buying this phone. Thank you.

Sure, not losing warranty is a big advantage over the official method; but on the other hand Knox and the sure loss of warranty didn't stop the S6 development (or any other Samsung's)...

take it the wrong way... The stock Rom is very good. All we need is root to have full control of it.

Problem is still, that only 2 variants can be unlocked or are unlocked per default: H815 EU Open Market version and the TMo G4 in the US (I don't know if EU and RoW TMo G4s are unlocked by default.), so you have only a very limited (1-2%) userbase with unlocked bootloaders around. And only a few of them are here.

...and it doesn't look very promising for all the other G4 variants! Autobot n friends haven't had any progress from what I've been reading.
I love the 5.5" inch size factor and have my eyes on the S6 Plus which will probably have a 1.6 gazillions dev's swarming to it! To bad the Nexus 2015 is only going to be 5.2" which is the same size as my 3 year old G2.

I only had Samsung and LG devices since I bought my first Android phone. From what I can read here and there HTC and Samsung have the best third party development support, and coming from a Note 4 I can confirm about Samsung.
Last year I followed the G3 development, Bump and CyanogenMod.
The G3 needed an alternative to the stock ROM, mostly because it had several LAG problems, and we had it after months.
I only had this phone three days now, but from what I can see we don't exactly NEED an alternative, as we have the latest main release of Android and runs great, little LAG and we need just a few little fixes... Having root let us customize as much as possible without losing, for example, manual camera mode.
All the new sammies don't have an sdcard slot which is a huge NO for me. As for the G4 devs, don't forget we are in August meaning 90% of the xda devs are on vacations, the G4 would have new breakthrough in root and roms in September.
It's too bad to see the G4 so good in many things but hurt by LG because of locked bootloader.
I hate HTC to not make a 5.5 or 5.7" flagship

Have faith there are several devs actively working on getting CM running, once that happens I suspect the flood gates will open. But the Samsung dev community is much bigger than that of LGs, been watching it for years and LG never seems to have the same volume as Samsung. Though most of the ROMs around for Samsung devices are just kit hen builds, only very few actual custom built ones.
Do not try to absolve me by some quirk of quantum mechanics.
I would love to try CM or AOSP on here. But without an unlocked bootloader, would it be possible to flash?

If they can boot with the stock kernel/ramdisk (boot.img), we should be able to flash a modified version (that doesn't touch the boot.img on the device) via flashfire.

Well the Release Date of the Galaxy S6 was the 1st of March while the LG G4 was released on the 29th of April and really available was the LG G4 in June...
...having said that - No, the LG G4 is by no means out as long as the Galaxy S6 is.
And the bootloader seems to be harder to unlock than the S6 bootloader.
...and the G4 was released with Android 5.1 while the S6 was released with 5.0.2 where more exploits exist...
Well we have to wait a while and when a bootloader unlock will be widely available, we will see a rom development explosion.
But one without immediately loosing warranty by directly sending your IMEI to LG...
Greetings

I also unlock bootloader just to have TWRP custom recovery...
I am having great time with my LG but I am a little disappointed for not having options to install a custom Rom as there are not...
But I think it is a matter of time for the devs to create some...
This device has many possibilities and many things that need to fix

Hello,
Don't know if it is still necessary but.. A petition for an upgrade of android 7 to our G4 H815 International version.
Android 7 came out during the 2 years of maintenance of the G4.. so... LG HAS the obligation to roll out this version to every G4 version.

I'm not trying to hate but... I've never experienced that a manufacturer took a petition for a software update/upgrade serious in any way. I've seen more than just a couple of those kind of petitions. It's pointless, it won't change anything even if it get's signed a thousand times.
Just install the "beta" version of Nougat. I've had it for over a month now and haven't noticed any setbacks. Well, other than a little screen burn, but I'm not sure if it's the Nougat or phone that's getting old. No random restarts, no FCs, nothing...Just smooth sailing. LG is not known for its good software support, so I wouldn't hold my breath about official Nougat anymore. I guess that ship has already sailed.

I've LG G4 H818P. There is a high risk of root and unlocking the device due to the warranty on the device. Especially when it comes to a device such as the LG G4 that is largely prone to bootloop.

Well, the bad thing about this beta is that it is vulnerable to the recent exploits in Android as the security patch of this rom is from June 2017. So it is vulnerable to Blueborne bluetooth exploit and KRACK wifi exploit.

By not buying LG again? Okay, so which manufacturer will give you updates for a long period of time?
Maybe if some company would officially support Lineageos on their device.

I haven't said that. I just meant to say that if the next wave of LG "flagships" have poor sales, maybe they will eventually do something about it.
Maybe they improve on their support, or on their quality control, I don't know.
In the short run, they will probably just ignore os.
But in the long run, if the sales figures go down and the number of support calls and/or device recalls go up maybe, just maybe, they will do something about it.
Who knows, maybe I will buy another LG product/phone if the quality and support of their devices will improve. But as it now stands, they are going down fast.
The latest sales figures already posted here are self explanatory.
LG is a bad smartphone manufacturer - majority of their recent phones have been plagued with issues (some serious some not so much)
no point in petitions cause they will ignore them, and even if they don't and actually release Android 7.0 for G4, thats still a year old OS which LG will leave at version 7.0..
just buy a smartphone that is easy to root (oneplus 5?) and go with lineage OS or something similar that gets updated on a daily basis
LG is **** tier and both their hardware and software suck

I agree for the version, but not for root.
I tried with my nexus 4, I scre** it up. totally. And reading articles telling you that you have a lot of manipulations to root etc, no thanks... Except if you have a software that you install normally and boum... rooted.
I will see if the V30 will be released with oreo version. Which i doubt....

Would be interesting why you 'hate' 8.1. What's worse in comparison to 7.0? There are a lot of users that haven't updated for several reasons (like me) and it would be helpful to know what isn't that good or is so bad to hate it? Most users report a similar battery usage so what's it?
If you want to revert you can't go to 7.1 as there was only 7.0 for Potter.
Imho, you have to fastboot flash the latest 7.0 firmware, make a backup of everything before you do so (system, data, persist, EFS etc).
Flash 7.0 firmware, stop the update service and you should be good to go.

This is the single reason I've had it with Motorola. I could not stand this either, and so I unlocked the bootloader and got twrp/magisk ready to flash a new ROM with every feature I want. I'm done with the selective features they provide.
Night mode is actually good for your sleep, yet they give you attentive display to burn your eyes out...rather than a filter to help you at night.

Agreed, 100% man. Honestly the only thing they have going for themselves right now, is the fact that this is one of the best phones for rooting and custom roms. Thankfully there is plenty of support from developers, otherwise we would all be doomed with Moto support.

Just curious, did you every try to unlock your bootloader? I thought they either came up with a different root method, or I thought I even read some people got lucky and were able to unlock it through Moto's website (although that was early on).
But I feel your pain, me being cheap (saving the $50), ordered the fiance the z3 play Amazon variant... I'm very tempted to see what Amazon will charge me to swap it for an unlocked version. I just can't rely on the future with Moto...
On a side note, I wish we could just flash the full unlocked software channel, then take control...via fastboot/adb. Sure would be nice.

No. They are two totally different phone series. V35 is more related to V40 and G8 internally than V30. The G8/V35/V40 are Snapdragon 845 "Judy" phones. V30 is "Joan" Snapdragon 835.
Why no ROMs? Took too long to get root, too hard, and V35 initially was only released for AT&T in U.S. Developers moved on to easier phones, distributed more widely.
I'd add a few more factors that stacked the deck against development for the V35.
It had a more geographically limited release than its siblings, the V40 and G7. Europe was not on the list and those phones are BL unlockable out of the box. Those phones really prime developer activity. The release in the US was by AT&T, Google, and later Amazon so limited there, too.
There are impending 3G shutdowns coming in NA so making phone calls will require VoLTE. Dev's have yet to reverse engineer the LG radio interface so that VoLTE can be supported on AOSP roms. Rooted stock is where I am for this reason and the same probably applies to anyone with LG V and G models soon enough, EoY 2020 for Verizon subscribers.
Lastly, there was the whole A/B slot transition with removal of the recovery partition.
Changes to TWRP had to be made.
Unless there are serious changes are forthcoming, this is my last LG phone. IMO, no A10 is the biggest strike against the V35.

I'm using the Korean Android 10 on my AT&T LG V35. Aside from the loud camera shutter sounds which cannot be disabled (law in Korea), I have found no major annoyance. 4 months now on Android 10.

IMO, no A10 is the biggest strike against the V35.

Wait, is this confirmed? I thought they were at last eventually going to release A10 for the NA firmwares, is this not the case anymore? Edit: btw, I second the sentiment, this is my first LG phone but also my last. Their stock OS is kind of ackward in weird ways... it's not very polished. I came from a cheap lowmid Huawei phone and their OS was still very polished when compared to this LG. Huawei knew where to add "proprietary" utilities and where not to. The upgrade was still worth it because of the performance boost though.

Were you able to root it?
It seems unlikely after so much time that an NA version of A10 will be released by LG. It is kind of moot at this point. Thanks to @cloud1250000 it is possible to flash the Korean A10 rom. Just follow his/her guide to localize to NA, CA or probably other regions. It works great!
Happy New Year!

I was not thinking on using that Korean A10 rom but since I have to reinstall my rom anyways might just give it a go. Can I go back to pie or oreo after installing the korean rom? I think I read it wasn't possible.
Yes, flashing back to Pie works fine.
