May someone colaborate on what the problem is? Because thats the only thing keeping me from buying this phone. Thank you.

Sure, not losing warranty is a big advantage over the official method; but on the other hand Knox and the sure loss of warranty didn't stop the S6 development (or any other Samsung's)...

take it the wrong way... The stock Rom is very good. All we need is root to have full control of it.

Problem is still, that only 2 variants can be unlocked or are unlocked per default: H815 EU Open Market version and the TMo G4 in the US (I don't know if EU and RoW TMo G4s are unlocked by default.), so you have only a very limited (1-2%) userbase with unlocked bootloaders around. And only a few of them are here.

...and it doesn't look very promising for all the other G4 variants! Autobot n friends haven't had any progress from what I've been reading.
I love the 5.5" inch size factor and have my eyes on the S6 Plus which will probably have a 1.6 gazillions dev's swarming to it! To bad the Nexus 2015 is only going to be 5.2" which is the same size as my 3 year old G2.

I only had Samsung and LG devices since I bought my first Android phone. From what I can read here and there HTC and Samsung have the best third party development support, and coming from a Note 4 I can confirm about Samsung.
Last year I followed the G3 development, Bump and CyanogenMod.
The G3 needed an alternative to the stock ROM, mostly because it had several LAG problems, and we had it after months.
I only had this phone three days now, but from what I can see we don't exactly NEED an alternative, as we have the latest main release of Android and runs great, little LAG and we need just a few little fixes... Having root let us customize as much as possible without losing, for example, manual camera mode.
All the new sammies don't have an sdcard slot which is a huge NO for me. As for the G4 devs, don't forget we are in August meaning 90% of the xda devs are on vacations, the G4 would have new breakthrough in root and roms in September.
It's too bad to see the G4 so good in many things but hurt by LG because of locked bootloader.
I hate HTC to not make a 5.5 or 5.7" flagship

Have faith there are several devs actively working on getting CM running, once that happens I suspect the flood gates will open. But the Samsung dev community is much bigger than that of LGs, been watching it for years and LG never seems to have the same volume as Samsung. Though most of the ROMs around for Samsung devices are just kit hen builds, only very few actual custom built ones.
Do not try to absolve me by some quirk of quantum mechanics.
I would love to try CM or AOSP on here. But without an unlocked bootloader, would it be possible to flash?

If they can boot with the stock kernel/ramdisk (boot.img), we should be able to flash a modified version (that doesn't touch the boot.img on the device) via flashfire.

Well the Release Date of the Galaxy S6 was the 1st of March while the LG G4 was released on the 29th of April and really available was the LG G4 in June...
...having said that - No, the LG G4 is by no means out as long as the Galaxy S6 is.
And the bootloader seems to be harder to unlock than the S6 bootloader.
...and the G4 was released with Android 5.1 while the S6 was released with 5.0.2 where more exploits exist...
Well we have to wait a while and when a bootloader unlock will be widely available, we will see a rom development explosion.
But one without immediately loosing warranty by directly sending your IMEI to LG...
Greetings

all the s6 really has is tweaked touchwiz roms no aosp cm or nothing
I also unlock bootloader just to have TWRP custom recovery...
I am having great time with my LG but I am a little disappointed for not having options to install a custom Rom as there are not...
But I think it is a matter of time for the devs to create some...

Shocked and disappointed to know that the XDA members are not working in the G3.
One month (or more) after the device was out, no custom recovery has been published, no one has published a post of CM, OmniROM or other ROM that isn't based on LG UI.
I think maybe I made a mistake buying this phone.

It will be a bit harder since bootloader is locked and seems so far not unlockable the easy way...
Got my D855 a few days ago, there is no development since the bootloader is locked, once unlocked I'm guessing it will be around a month until the hardware sources are working correctly for CM, and from there the sky is the limit, once CM comes out I will be more then glad to help bring Slim, Beanstalk, AOSB and others to the G3 (I helped the S2 community for a long time bringing them roms)

I currently own a T-mo Galaxy S6 and am really disappointed with the lack of ROMs available for it. Part of the reason - based on my understanding so far - is that because the S6 has an Exynos chip, custom AOSP ROMs are not possible because Samsung hasn't released the source (or something like that ). I'm considering getting an S7 Edge - since it's on a Qualcomm processor, can we reasonably expect to see AOSP-based custom ROMs for it? I would consider upgrading to an S7 if it meant access to a vanilla, touchWiz-free, marshmallow ROM.

I believe the tmo varient has unlockable bootloaders which means easier dev support. But the international versions should reveieve the most support since tmo users are a minority compared to the rest of the globe. The Verizon version would probably be the worst.

Good point. Although it will be interesting to see what sort of dev support the non-US versions of the s7 will have since they are all on the exynos chip.
The tmo version will probably have more dev support than the rest of the world IMO. Of all the US carriers, they are the most open and almost always have the most support. Global has exynos so no aosp for them unless the code their hardware drivers from scratch(qcom provides these for us) the only thing I've noticed is that Samsung uses their own touch controller in the s7 unlike any phone before, which I don't think will be an issue, as that's probably just in the kernel which is open source anyways. Aside from that I think it's mostly just getting a device tree up and running to port aosp over which shouldn't be too difficult. Then again I've only ever compiled aosp on a Nexus so I may be wrong here.
Touch wiz improved a lot since the first galaxy note. And honestly all you need is root and luckypatcher to control your phone better plus super user
I'm working on pulling device trees in for cm. Shouldn't take too long

Nice. Samsung told me they would release kernel source when the phone actually releases, so hopefully we get that tomorrow.
And now we have hit an obstacle...
Was too excited with my S7 purchase on Friday to notice the bad news about the locked snapdragon bootloader. W.T.F. Why is Samsung doing this ...

Man, in retrospect, this thread seems so naively optimistic lol
This is why Google should have never canceled the GPE. Although instead of only selling phones which were expensive and no payment/contract plans offered. They should release official Roms which could be flashed via stock recover for select oems like Samsung. Also Google could sell OEM phones for fi.
I would read this thread for the latest findings. It may be quite some time before we get root, if ever (much less TWRP). It looks like this device is locked down really tight.
Plus you want AOSP theres the nexus for ya. Sorry it doesn't have the slick looks and great features, but youll have your aosp. Now people cant excuse because they wanted a bigger phone. Every phone is big now. Why choose Samsung only to take away ABSOLUTELY EVERY FEATURE except cosmetic?

The Chinese/HK SM-G9350 is a rootable/bootloader unlockable phone. It's just that nobody knows that, right now only chinese people are making roms (Aurora ROM). I think that should be put in consideration since it's literally a bootloader unlocked Snapdragon variant. I think it's possible to just then install stock USA rom and then root it. (I haven't tried it, but I've heard you're only supposed to flash AP file in Odin)
IMHO, If custom roms is a concern , you should go with nexus line. Even if we had a port of cm, it would need at least 1 year to become ready as a daily driver and even then the camera and bluetooth wouldnt work %100 !

A OnePlus 3 is a great choice if you want to root/ use a custom rom. It has a unlocked bootlader and also doesn't void warranty if you root it. I actually think I should've gotten the oneplus 3, because it has all the features I need, compromises on features I don't need, and having a near stock experience. It's absolutely worth it over the S7 edge for its price.

Just think about it. Do you really think that LG will say officaly: "NO NOUGAT UPDATE FOR OUR 1.5 YEARS OLD PHONE". It would be a really good advertisement for them! Lets be critical. It's the same like if they said: Buy our current flagship - G6 and you will get terrible support, bad build quality, bootloop problem after a year, you will loose all your date when we change phones motherboard, you will wait many days and finally you will probably stuck on 7.1.1 forever. It's almost on 100% that LG G4 won't get Nougat update. All what they need is to sell new models. That is what keeps them alive. Building a new system for almost 2 years old phone is nonsense, it is, it cost money. We need to earn money, not spend money. If you want Nougat, buy LG G5 or get G6. Thats it. But many people will buy from another phone manofacturer next time after this. LG is digging it's own grave for a long time.
We barely started March dude... If you had any Asus you'd see what's slow. Just wait and if they don't deliver too bad. The phone is not that bad as it is since it's a terrible chip
Wow LG seems like they really don't like the G4 considering they are leaving it on the same Android version as it's predecessor G3. I bought this phone as a budget alternative to buying the galaxy A5 2016 .... At least the LG G4 has good custom ROM support so I'll just install lineage os if LG really decides to ditch this phone. But I'm still disappointed to see this phone only get one update in its lifetime.
Edit : *only one major update
Also: even comparing LG to other companies like Sony... Their whole z5 series including z5, premium and compact just got the 7.0 update

The official line seems to be that the Nougat update for the G4 and V10 was abandoned as it wasn't stable enough for release. If you choose to believe any other source then I'm afraid you're set to be disappointed.
It's time to move on.
i imagine this on a balance.. one side how much they would spent on 7.0 development vs the other people moving away from LG.

You could always port a ROM especially since there are already ones made for this phone. I am finding the stock rooted to my liking on my RS988. Everything works as it should. With no compromises. I had the H830 and tried the custom ROMS but always went back to stock.
