Dears ,
After using the S5 Dual SIM for a month now , i am not satisfied as battery isn't that good and i don't feel that the device is good enough , after using the G2 for a while it's very hard to move to another phone
so i am thinking in selling the S5 and get a Note 4 as i was alwyas a fan of Note family and owned Note 2 & Note 3 and they was one of the best i ever used .
But confused , Which one shall i get the Snapdragon or Exynos ?! the Exynos supposed to be 64-bit but it was disabled in Kitkat and can't find info if it was enabled with the Lollipop update or not
we always choose the Snapdragon because it's supported more than the Exynos , but it's not the issue for me all i care about the performance in general which is better ?!
So please advise which one shall i go for ?!
Thanks

They did not add 64-bit support in Lollipop on the Exynos note 4 and probably will never do since the S6 will be their first flagship that will support it...
get the one you want it doesn't really matter much...
exynos may offer better benchmark performance(+1-2k in antutu, that's what some exynos owners are claiming anyway) but they don't have Cyanogenmod/AOSP nor they will have it any time soon. which means you'll basically be stuck with touchwiz based roms forever. if you don't care about it then go for the exynos but as an android lover myself I love the fact that I can just flash whatever I want when I want.
Take a look at reviews and make your choice: http://anandtech.com/show/8718/the-samsung-galaxy-note-4-exynos-review
Basically if you dont give a s**t about custom ROMs (like me) and would rather choose better performance (and similar architecture to the future S6) pick the Exynos.
If you care about performance you must go for the Exynos.
Get which ever is in your country and carrier, unless you plan on running benchmarks all day, it really doesn't matter which you get.
Allow me to steal your thread for a second. I'm also interested, and I found a pretty good deal for a refurbished AT&T N4.
I do care about performance, but I care more about rooting and being able to install custom roms.
What's the best model for that?
Thanks!

I wish I knew. I wanted to order one real fast today with overnight shipping from Amazon to use while my Nexus 6 is being replaced but there are so many models its confusing. I literally want the exact same thing you are asking for, ATT LTE with an unlocked bootloader and custom ROMs. :crying:
SnapDragon FTW !
Still confused throw Note 4 models !! i don't know why Samsung do that !!! S H F !! What the hell is that
What's the difference between Snapdragon versions to to have 2 models !! F and S
What's the difference between Exynos versions to to have 2 models !! C and H
!!!
Exynos 910C LTE, 910H UMTS model, Snapdragon 910F international model, the S i don't now. Bye the way i would buy the Exynos again. It simply has the newer, better soc. It keeps cooler and runs stays longer fast. Snapdragon is throttling more often.
What is the best one to get in the UK? I'm on EE network if that matters and I need 4g/LTE
Thanks
Edit-also worth noting that I will want to be able to root and uproot if I need to use Samsung warranty down the road.
any one here with 910C version can give me his feedback about the device ?!
Had both the F and C models. Exynos is faster and cooler, Snapdragon is a little bit better on battery. As I charge my phone every night, I choose speediness over 30-45mins of extra SOT time.

Wher is devolpment for Echorom?
BTW..I still wait for next update..I want to be sure that the night clock problem is from software before I root.. so I can easy exchange the phone if it's not the software..Samsung write me that it's a software problem..but who knows..after that..I want to make a Rom ?
Just be patient. I am sure something will come. Many who ordered the phone have to wait for delivery. I waited 3 weeks.
I would say give it a month

Agreed. It's almost a month since release and not even a stable recovery let alone ROMs. Normal S6 launched together yet theres almost a dozen ROMs available.
This is enough to sway me to get a normal S6.
I am optimistic that we will have something sooner or later
we gonna have:echo rom...end extrelight rom the question when i cant wait
Y'all are impatient as ****. If you wanted day 1 ROMs you should have bought a Nexus. Otherwise, Android is open source. Have at it.

New device is new, and new device uses proprietary **** that takes time to learn.
When/If it's month 3 and there are no devs, then this thread should exist.
Also, keep an eye on the S6 forums as well. I suspect that eventually you'll see cross-breeding of ROMs and what not that are simply adapted for use on the Edge's curved display, but of course, the home for such developments wouldn't be in this forum quite yet.
Carotix (CarHDRom) is coming over from Galaxy S4 and is going to be developing roms for your edge. His roms are fantastic. He'll be sorely missed from the s4 forum.

Yes that's what I did!
I currently own a T-mo Galaxy S6 and am really disappointed with the lack of ROMs available for it. Part of the reason - based on my understanding so far - is that because the S6 has an Exynos chip, custom AOSP ROMs are not possible because Samsung hasn't released the source (or something like that ). I'm considering getting an S7 Edge - since it's on a Qualcomm processor, can we reasonably expect to see AOSP-based custom ROMs for it? I would consider upgrading to an S7 if it meant access to a vanilla, touchWiz-free, marshmallow ROM.

So the question is 'when', and not 'if'? That's good news in itself! Follow-up question: Is there a lot of variation between the carrier versions of the S7 that would hinder cross-development?

I believe the tmo varient has unlockable bootloaders which means easier dev support. But the international versions should reveieve the most support since tmo users are a minority compared to the rest of the globe. The Verizon version would probably be the worst.

Good point. Although it will be interesting to see what sort of dev support the non-US versions of the s7 will have since they are all on the exynos chip.
The tmo version will probably have more dev support than the rest of the world IMO. Of all the US carriers, they are the most open and almost always have the most support. Global has exynos so no aosp for them unless the code their hardware drivers from scratch(qcom provides these for us) the only thing I've noticed is that Samsung uses their own touch controller in the s7 unlike any phone before, which I don't think will be an issue, as that's probably just in the kernel which is open source anyways. Aside from that I think it's mostly just getting a device tree up and running to port aosp over which shouldn't be too difficult. Then again I've only ever compiled aosp on a Nexus so I may be wrong here.
Touch wiz improved a lot since the first galaxy note. And honestly all you need is root and luckypatcher to control your phone better plus super user
I'm working on pulling device trees in for cm. Shouldn't take too long

Nice. Samsung told me they would release kernel source when the phone actually releases, so hopefully we get that tomorrow.
And now we have hit an obstacle...
Was too excited with my S7 purchase on Friday to notice the bad news about the locked snapdragon bootloader. W.T.F. Why is Samsung doing this ...
So glad I have a Nexus 6P for updates/roms. Samsung is always giving users a raw deal when it comes to their flagships I feel like

Man, in retrospect, this thread seems so naively optimistic lol
This is why Google should have never canceled the GPE. Although instead of only selling phones which were expensive and no payment/contract plans offered. They should release official Roms which could be flashed via stock recover for select oems like Samsung. Also Google could sell OEM phones for fi.
I would read this thread for the latest findings. It may be quite some time before we get root, if ever (much less TWRP). It looks like this device is locked down really tight.
Plus you want AOSP theres the nexus for ya. Sorry it doesn't have the slick looks and great features, but youll have your aosp. Now people cant excuse because they wanted a bigger phone. Every phone is big now. Why choose Samsung only to take away ABSOLUTELY EVERY FEATURE except cosmetic?

Hi there
I am currently on a Galaxy S4 running a stable version of Nougat - CM14, however I am looking to upgrade to a phone that has much custom ROM support- especially CyanogenMod.
Because I will only get a phone that has CyanogenMod support, I assume the Exynos variant will not be viable. Will the Note 4 have official CM14 support? When did the Note 4 receive CM13?
I am looking to buy a phone around £300 and the screen has to be at least 5.7inches. Would the Note 4 still be a good option now?
Or should I go with another phone?
All advice is welcomed... Thanks

Here's another vote for the Note 4. As far as features go, it's pretty loaded. AFAIK it's the only phone with QHD, IR blaster, expandable storage, 5.5+ inches. Granted its finger print sensor is pretty useless.
Also, I haven't had the problems mentioned above in this thread.

No chance. Closed source SOC. Small possibility of an unofficial one being released that will boot and be usable but you have two hopes of it ever being stable.

Just to ask, why would you buy a Samsung phone based on an Exynos chip set if CM is important to you? Possibly the worst phone SOC you can buy under those circumstances.

I strongly agree with your point but since the s7 edge has been sold in the 30 million mark i thought too myself there has to be a cm for this phone since its so freakin awesome! I traded my nexus 4 to the nexus 5 than moved to 1+1 then for the almighty nexus 6 (yes im a flashaholic) but eventually for some stupid reason i sold it and bought the s7 edge because of the better screen camera and popularity and now im thinking of selling because it has no aosp or cm roms..... i mean seriously this phone is a beast of a beast but slowly slowly im starting to realize maybe having so much custom roms is a better choice.... Thats my opinion tbh
Unfortunately only Exynos 4 family have true open libraries, also 5 series has some libraries but i've never heard about 7 and 8 series have any libraries, and without Samsung sources, it's somethink like impossible. Read further here:

Samsung or most oem's don't give a **** about open-source that why you get skins on phones and not stock they want you running their services etc if you care for development I suggest getting a Nexus/Pixel only

Even if a usable CM build did appear, the use of it would take away a lot of the features that make this a premium phone in the first place. For a start I can guarantee you the camera quality will be dire in comparison. And on a phone with a camera this good, that would be ridiculous. Its one of the main reasons I bought it. Then you will lose the Edge features.
Nah, I'll stick with Touchwiz thanks. Besides, it's far better than it used to be, it's no longer a chore.

You use the edge features!!?? I didn't know somebody used that, why will the camera quality will be compromised? is it the hardware? or you wanna say it's the software of S7E who deliver beautiful pictures. I believe a beautyful cool UI is a perfect match for this awesome device.[emoji56]

Shame about the closed source for the samsung SOC. I think this is where the qualcomm soc variant lucked out a bit.
There is some work being done at the moment to get it to boot correctly on the qualcomm side, but everything else is pretty much there. Once that problem is solved, its pretty easy since a lot of qualcomm based devices can already run cm13/14 so porting it to the s7/s7e qualcomm would be relatively easy of a task.

Yes, I do. And the camera is compromised because Samsung's TW framework is required for it to work optimally. You will get basic image quality and features under CM but it won't be anything like approaching what you get under TW and the stock camera app. This was the case under older phones like the Note 3 (I used Temasek's CM builds on that) and it will be even more prevelant on superior camera hardware like this. The gains CM/AOSP offer simply don't outweigh the disadvantages for me.

It is, i have been waiting for Dual Patcher to bring S7 Edge support.
I was going to consider having a play with CM build as an additional ROM.
I enjoyed it on my Note 3 switching between the two, So i may have a dip in the source thats already been worked on next early next year
