I've had this phone rooted since last fall to keep up with the newest features, security updates and Android versions. No problems there. But lately with every single nougat ROM, I'm experiencing major MMS problems. None of the people I talk to, friends or family members use apps like WhatsApp to send messages or group chat or send pictures. They either have iMessage or use default Android Messengers so I'm stuck using Textra.
Every so often (but this happens multiple times daily) I am not able to send or receive MMS on this phone. I'll watch those sending dots go forever. Only fixes are rebooting the phone or turning off/on the cellular data. I only realize I'm missing out on receiving MMS when Textra displays a pop up saying there's an error. I'll then have to restart the phone to get them to come in. It sucks missing out on group chats like this.
I've posted this problem on all of the ROM threads and either no one responded or they didn't have Verizon. I seriously have no idea what to do. I'm honestly thinking about throwing this son of a ***** away because this isn't worth the headache. But the phone runs and works perfectly otherwise. Please help!

I do not have Nougat but I do know that solid texting comes with the proper settings for your APN. Find it in:
/Settings/...More/Mobil Networks/Access Point Names/
The correct choice for Verizon is: VZWINTERNET
If you have the correct APN setting, texting should work fine. What is wrong with Textra? I use it all the time and like it a lot.

Gave up the iPhone 4 and AT&T, and oh boy…
In the first few weeks of owning a shiny new Nexus S on T-Mobile MMS images received were blurry. That magically was fixed for myself and quite a few others.
Now fast forward, and one nagging problem continues. Receiving and sending MMS is completely sporadic, and mostly unreliable.
My wife will send something, and no sign of it ever arriving (she's still on AT&T with an iPhone 4). Same thing happens when it's a friend on AT&T, and Verizon most recently. Then, out of nowhere, it will work. I'll send an MMS, it never arrives. Try later, boom, it might just work.
At home there's decent EDGE service, and work HSPA. Vastly different conditions, but same story. Sometimes things are sent and received successfully, other times not.
Never an issue with text messages.
APN settings remain unchanged out of the box, and consistent with other folks.
Any thoughts or ideas beyond calling T-Mobile with "it doesn't work"? Last time I called them (to report the blurry MMS picture issue) it was a lost cause. Unsupported device, etc.

Funny you should mention that. EXACT same issues while traveling from Las Vegas (home) to various parts of southern California (Carlsbad, San Diego, etc.)

My goal was to share the situation in case others had similar experiences, and troubleshoot.
Yes, obviously I can call T-Mobile and say "awww shucks my thingy don't work"... genius!

it may not be the same issue exactly but you may wanna search for the blurry MMS thread and ask in there quite possibly because that thread kinda branched off into different issues regarding sms/mms

Good idea. Thanks.
This sounds strangely reminiscent of an issue I get here...
I'm on VodafoneUK and MMS works just fine - however if I MMS the missus on O2 the message may or may not get there, or there might be an 18 hr lag... It's not the most reliable thing in the world!
This isn't a Nexus thing, it's a network thing...
I suspect that if you kept all of your MMS activity to people also on TMo you wouldn't have a problem - it's when the different networks talk to each other things go screwy...
I still remember the "good" old days when you couldn't even send text messages between the different networks in the UK!
For what it's worth, I had intermittent problems both sending and receiving MMS messages. Sometimes it would work, and other times it wouldn't. I've switched to using Handcent instead of the stock messaging app, and MMS has been working 100% perfectly since doing so. I'm not sure why this is the case, but it is. At least for me.
Are you experiencing the issue when you send messages to someone else on T-Mobile or is it just happening with your wife on ATT?
It is not unheard of for MMS messages to have problems between carriers. I personally have seen more issues with ATT than any other carrier (I have worked with ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and currently work for T-Mobile).
If you are both using smartphones (iPhone and Nexus S)you will get better quality pictures if you send them as email and not MMS since that avoids the picture resolution being reduced to the file size for MMS. I believe that the current T-Mobile setting is 1000 Kb for MMS messages.
Well now this is odd. Was just sent a MMS from someone on AT&T and nothing showed up in the messaging app, yet the Missed Reminder app says I have an unread MMS!
I have cleared all data from messaging before for the sake of it.
This is driving me mental!
Not carrier but Android? Sending and receiving MMS works fine with T-Mobile users.
Handcent exibits the same behavior.
Since the last two or three updates within CM builds, I cannot receive MMS from my friend on the sprint network, I am on Tmobile.
I simply receive the message with an attachment that cannot be downloaded. every time I click the download button it tries to retrieve the file and fails
I can receive MMS from myself and it hasn't solved the problem
the apns seem like they have had no direct changes, is something to do with my friends phone more likely or is there a cause for this? tomorrow I will try to have someone on tmobile send me an mms to see if results are different.
need some kind of answer!!! preeeezee
recently gathered info leads me to the suggestion that it is 2.3.4 itself causing this issue, as there is a whole new box called "APN Protocol" in our APN edit menu. Haven't ascertained if there is an actual fix besides downgrading to an older build.
I am having this same exact problem. I know you haven't gotten and answer and it's been a while since you posted on this topic but i didn't want to get yelled at to "use the search feature"
no one seems to have the answer. i get mms from my sister (blackberry) and mom on Verizon. (my mom doesn't even have a smart phone) but my girlfriend with her blackberry on sprint wont come through. It shows the "download" button and it fails every time i click on it.
I haven't tried iphone users yet but seems the problem is carrier specific with my phone not playing nice with others.
I am running the latest cm7 nightly build on mytouch 3g slide from t-mobile. And using the stock message app to send and receive.
(please don't tell me to use handcent or anything of the sort, i'd like an answer to THIS problem, not just a work around)
please someone help!??
Did you try changing the User Agent in the messaging app settings and seeing if it helped?
yeah, actually tried them all. I believe thats only for sending mms so the receiving phone thinks its coming form another type of device. as far as receiving mms, no luck man
on 2.3.4 ive narrowed it down to I cannot receive MMS messages from iPhones on att or verizon. Anyone else who sends me one I am able to download.
Going back to rom in my signature
hmmm, interesting cause i can verify i get from Verizon but not Sprint. And we both have t-mobile, as far as i can see
Just wish the problem was more uniform so that it would be easier to narrow down the problem
im having the same problem with SIMPLE Mobile. it seems i can send to myself and recieve from ALL GSM carriers but CDMA carriers IE. sprint, verizon, metro pcs, do not work i can click download button till im blue in the face and they wont download...any ideas??
I fixed it, or rather it fixed itself. I backed up angry birds data (the only data that matters, otherwise my girlfriend yells at me that she has to start all over AGAIN lol) using titanium. I did a full wipe, data, davlik and cache. Then installed (at the time) the latest nightly, cm7 nightly 78. Automagically fixed, at least the people I tested (including my girlfriends, which was the initial problem) restored angry birds data and donezo. Tell me if it works for you.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm on tmobile..stock jellybean and stock texting app.
sometimes the MMS will go right away..sometimes they will sit for days..and then i send (or recieve) one from someone and suddenly the floodgates open all my 'stuck' MMS messages go.
i dont know this is a defect..or maybe something quirky about tmobile's network..but it seems to happen about once a week the messages get backed up like this.
never had a problem with SMS..i dont think.
Not sure why but i've had that too. The other night sending to my friend on T-Mobile it wouldn't go for hours then i resent it some 9hrs later and it worked fine. I don't think it's a N4 problem per say as i've had that with my SGS2 also. Maybe it's a ROM thing or just carrier issue but wish it wouldn't be so!
I got this experience with MMS:
- when on WiFi than impossible to send;
- only when on Data transfer MMS is send.
Try to manually set the data and not wifi and try.
Good luck.
MMS only send on mobile data connection, thus has been standard behaviour on every Android phone I've owned
makes sense. i'm on/near wifi for most of the day every day so i guess its not going to send until i'm in my car driving somewhere and regular data kicks on
Shouldn't matter as the phone wont use WIFI to send MMS if the APN has "mms" designation it it. You can watch the signal bars and see he up/down arrow in the cellular signal bars vs wifi when trying to send. At least, that's what it does on my phone yet it still just doesn't send once in a while.

did an experiment today; sent 3 MMS (while i'm hooked to WIFI) and 2 of them went..made a phone call before the 3rd one sent..and it got stuck in 'sending' mode.
2 hours later still stuck in 'sending'. i sent a text to that number ...didn't help.
I then sent another MMS..and when i did, it triggered both the new one and the 'stuck' one to go through.
so there you have it..not conclusive but it seems like maybe when its switching between voice and data it can get stuck..and the stock MMS messenging app doesn't seem to be smart enough to resend automatically. it seems like you have to 'jiggle the handle' to get it to go by sending another MMS.
it also seems sending ANY mms (not even to the stuck #) will release all the hung MMS for everyone.
I've been on Solavei for about 6 months now and I got no ability to receive MMS now. I've tried tons of variations of T-Mo and Solavei apn settings and nothing that used to work will work at all. I've tried it with and without WIFI enabled. Verified data working and regular texts are fine. I can receive MMS messages. I've tried different apps too all with no joy. Tried erasing all messages and even did a factory reset since it had been awhile and nothing.
I've read where some people had their hardware replaced in order to fix this. I called Google and after seeing it wouldn't work they forwarded my call to LG who told me to never buy another LG product again (ignorant and nasty customer service who made it sound like they couldn't fix it and if they could I'd have to pay an unknown ransom to get my phone back). I know tons of people have issues with this in general but am I missing something? I see an open bug over at Google regarding this. Is there any possible hardware flaw that could cause it? I've tried every variation of apn name, type, server, port and proxy. I had no issues using Tmo settings even after I left them until now. I'm not seeing where this is an outage all over either.
Thanks for any help.
I've recetly been having trouble sending any sort of MMS (group message, pics, text with emoji) when I have Wifi turned on. When I have Wifi off they all go through, I've tested this out and it's definitely what's going on. Also, when I go into the APN settings I do have VZWINTERNET selected but MMSC and other ones aren't set. There doesn't seen to be a way to change it. This all started happening after I installed Evolve SMS then uninstalled it.
I have also been told by a few people that they tried calling me but calls won't go through, and I haven't had any missed calls.
So more info, in case this helps.
I installed Evolve SMS but I was having trouble sending MMS...I wouldn't go through the first time but if I hit resend it went through just fine. I was using it for a while but a couple of times I had texts go to the wrong person which is very bad (and good thing there was that MMS bug which didn't let group texts go through the first time because a lot of people would have got something meant for my girlfriend). So I uninstalled it immediately and went back to stock MMS, and this is where I'm now having all these problems.
Anybody have an idea to what's going on? Does it have something to do with my APN settings (or lack of settings) and did installing Evolve SMS have something to do with it?
It's just strange they go through when WIFI is off but nothing when it's on. And my biggest concern is that I'm missing phone calls, which a few have been pretty important.
Any help is appreciated...Thanks!
