Quality of Replacement Screens? - Mate 8 General

Does anyone have experience in regards to replacing their screens on the Mate 8? My phone is developing some sort of ghost touches where it'll register the touch when my finger is only hovering above. Therefore I'm looking to replace my screen/digitalizer but I'm worried that the quality of the replacement screen is inferior to the original one. I would love to just replace the digitalizer only, but the process of separating it from the screen seems risky. Any help is appreciated!

Urgent help required!!!!

Hi guys,i dropped my phone and my screen stopped responding.it was a nasty hit on my HD so i contacted HTC here in Cyprus and they told me that is the screen and its gone!!!They do not cover drops and they are overpriced in changing my screen cause they say that the bezel has to be changed too!
Does anyone know where i can find a fully assembled screen with the bezel so i can do it my self??If not does anyone has any idea how the screen seperates from the bezel along with the digitiizer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Does it have cracks? If not:
My suggestion, Go to another HTC centre and simply say screen is not working. Let them find the cause See what they quote. If it is a micro-crack or something not visible to naked eye they might simply replace it for benefit of doubt under warranty. I had a very trivial fall of my Nokia and I saw that LCD stopped working. No cracks nothing. I went to svc centre and they replaced it. When I asked why it happened they said sometimes LCDs do fail..
Some others may be upset with my suggestion though.. but worth trying. I think they should have given a better prot4ection or more easy replaceability of the glasstop/digitiser.

Broken Screen

Dear all,
anybody already experienced a broken touch screen?
My Leo fell from 50cm to the ground (tiles), just on the edge. The sound it hit the ground already let me knew - bad suprise...
If you have already some experiences with broken screens: Is there a way to repair it? Is it be affordable?
The device itself seems to work as usual. Even in the upper right corner, the sensitivity seems fair. But I fear a breaking screen as already some glassy bits drissel out...
Thx for tipps
TC
i belive its called digitizer on most touch screens.
not sure if HD2 has different technology.
but the LCD screen is separate from the touchscreen part(thats what you broke)
search ebay for HTC HD2 digitizer
heres the ebay link i bought a camera LCD display from them few times

Hey dude,
Check out this thread

I broke my glass on my screen and ordered a new digitizer, stripped it apart, broke the LCD in the process (a common occurrence as the glass/LCD glue is STRONG), ordered a new LCD, repaired and it works.. didn't quite go back together as it started (slight gap in case, buttons don't come through as much as they used to). Now have the problem of the 'bubble wrap' showing on the screen in a few places.
In short, yes it can be done but if you want it doing right get a professional to do it..
Any one else with there own experiences?
heat it up so the glue is soft and comes off easier, between the screen and digitizer.
if you have sun leave it in the sun to get it up to good temperature.
safest way since it will not get too hot where it melts.

[Q] HARDWARE Please look at my photo and tell me if my phone can be saved

OK I'm an idiot I destroyed my digitiser when trying to do a screen replacement on my S4. Can someone please have a look at this pic and tell me if (apart from the broken digitiser) I have damaged anything else that would make digitiser replacement no longer viable?
Thx very much for replies
It's not just the digitizer that's toast, but the AMOLED screen as well. Those cracks near the upper right are where the screen itself is broken. With damage to the screen you're going to need to purchase a new midframe with screen and digitizer already attached to it. I don't know how much you spent on your glass, but the midframe and screen are going to cost about US$150.
Thx for reply . Could you just tell me if this is what you meant about what I need to replace the damaged parts?

That is precisely what I meant. It's the entire screen plus the midframe. You'll need to pull all the sensors and other small bits off the bad screen/midframe and put them on the good one, as the replacement part doesn't include the sensors. iFixit should have a breakdown guide you can use that should be of help.

Damaged screen

It seems that sweat got underneath the screen of my G2, and the lower part of the touch screen does not respond any more. There is no problem with display, but I can't access to the navigation buttons (home, back, etc) and the app drawer button. The phone suddenly becomes useless. Any way to savage the phone?
@mj56gt
Unless you have warranty, you can replace the LCD. Just make sure you try and get an authentic one or close to it.
I've read that some knock offs are really thick and touches don't register as well.
Thanks a lot for the help! I really appreciate it.
Do you have any suggestion about the digitizer? I see there are some cheap one with less than 10 dollars from China. Are they good?

Just to be clear, there is no problem with the display for the phone, but the issue is that the lower part of the phone does not respond to touch. So this is the digitizer damage, right? Broken screen

Unfortunately my screen broke, the LCD is working fine, and recognizes touches.
Is it possible to change only the glass and digitizer? Eg
I'm afraid of LCD panels from eBay. The service said that warranty is void at all events (even if they repair it).
I'm currently in the same situation. Any update on your phone's screen?
A local repair shop can't fix it unless I buy a panel myself and let them fix it for me. I want to know what I need if the glass is broken, but touches and LCD are fine: just glass or a complete screen replacement, like this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Rau...Panel-Replacement-for-Xiaomi/32835465822.html .
I will order a complete LCD panel with frame and try to replace myself. But I don't know if they are the same quality as original.

Let us know when you do! Please also specify which replacement you bought. It's a good idea to document these things, because in the coming years many more people will break their screens, unfortunately, but we can help them finding out what screens are worth buying.
I'm especially interested in touch performance and LCD similarity to the original. If you could pay attention to those properties and comment on them when you know, that would be really helpful.
Never try replacing one yourself, no matter how tempting and easy it looks on youtube videos, without proper gears and experience, you will end up damaging the whole panel. I know because I tried and failed myself and ended up buying the whole front panel with the LCD.
It will be much cheaper to buy it off ebay and let a experienced guy do it.
Did you tried with LCD+frame kit? It looks much easier that way. What happened exactly?

I was trying the glass with digitizer which was pretty much cheap, which needs to be removed with proper gears and lot of patience with a heat gun(I have seen local shop guys doing it without them with ease), It was an old samsung s3 which I kept to experiment on, ended up buying the whole front assembly which I did installed successfully(made me feel a lot better). That looks easy and there is less of chance of any breaking, unless you are very careful in removing all the tiniest sensors and wire and put them accordingly, but then you have to carefully pick the whole assembly there are plenty of low quality ones around, where you might get one that gives issues. for instance on Samsung s3 it was an original amoled display. but I got one that was an LCD panel display and there were issues where brightness sensor didn't worked at all.
Your best bet would be an original LCD+frame kit, I don't know if you really can get one off ebay.
So my three advices.
1. try to get only the glass with digitizer off ebay(If your Display works), then let a local expert change it. much cheaper and let you avoid getting a low quality LCD panel.
2. If it's your first time, I would suggest doing it on a cheaper phone to test your skills, I wouldn't recommend doing it for first timers who have no experience of doing it. there is high possibility that you might break a sensor or a wire.
3. if you want to go ahead with a whole new kit from ebay, make sure you check it without removing any sticker, and connect that display with the motherboard and see if the display is really good and make sure you check the brightness and touch. only if you are satisfied then go ahead, or return the product.
Thank you for the advices!
I couldn't find anybody, who can replace only the glass and digitizer.

I saw MiA1 LCD panel, Touchscreen and digitizer which is around $39-$46 on ebay, while I couldn't find just the glass with Digitizer. I think the best bet right now would be with the full kit with LCD. as they aren't selling without the LCD at the moment.
Although I would suggest you keep the original LCD panel with broken glass,(don't try to remove it yet, let the glue wear off itself until then) in case they do start to sell in future the glass with digitizer only. There could be a next time(who knows? or you can just sell that to someone), where you will at least have an original LCD, these things break very easily. be sure to keep them safe, and if you feel confident enough, you can try it yourself, just be careful with the glue, and the pins. go gentle, it's a surgery. best of luck!
I found several glass with digitizer on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...RS0&_nkw=Xiaomi+A1+touchscreen+glass&_sacat=0

I love advices like that.U r smart.
I've also cracked my screen.... happened yesterday when I accidentally dropped it on concrete. Touch is working fine, only glass is broken.
So would be buying only the digitizer like this one: goo.gl/ZDPoFd do its job if I let it do at the local repair shop or buy the whole LCD as mentioned above?

You're going to need to ask your local repair shop. Some shops will be able to replace the digitzers, others only do the full LCD assembly. Again others will not even accept repairs where you bring in the parts, they'll source the parts themselves.

I've contacted a local repair shop and said they couldn't do only the digitizer, but they can do the whole LCD repair which will cost me 25 euro. Now I have to find the right one..... as you have so much variant on Ebay and Alie. U have a suggestion on which one to choose?
My MI A1 display is craked .but display is working and phone functions are working .just I ask you if I using the craked display for long time is it problem come.phone sold 3 days ago so I cannot want to repair the lcd. .Plz advice
I bought this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...izer-Display-For-Xiaomi-MiA1/32831902856.html
I let a local phone repair shop do the repair for me. They did a great job. The screen itself is also great. I think it could be an original, as I can't tell any difference. The colours seem the same, it measures up to 10 simultaneous touches (like the original), the performance feels identical. I recommend this screen! I've also left a review with pictures on Ali Express, but it's still being processed.
I ordered a white screen for my black Mi A1, so now I have a stormtrooper! (or panda, whatever you want...)
Screen plus repair in total about €60, well worth it IMO. It's quite a fraction of the original purchase price, but hey, I shouldn't have dropped the phone after a month. I've also ordered a plain black back cover to help me better grip the device.

You are lucky then, because it's common for Xiaomi that the buttons won't lite when replacing screen.

I didn't know that! It wouldn't have been bad, because I don't like the button backlight at all: it's on for too short, it's too bright, it's not like I can't find the buttons and it's not like I don't know what functions the buttons have... I hope we can turn it down or off in the stock ROM in the future!
