Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your new nexuses. Mine has an issue tho. It does not recognize OK Google hotword until I say it directly into mic on the bottom. Video mic works perfectly well
Don't know what the resolution is, just wanted to chime in and say I have a similar issue. It seems to need very close dictation to activate. Also, Ok google stops working completely sometimes and the device needs to be restarted to get it working...
I also have this issue where I have to hold the phone close and it has to be on the home screen

you have to enable always listening in the google now settings.
Have same issue here when screen is off, have to yell or give multiple tries. I guess this is due to the doze that tries to save power.
Mama google just wants you to stop mumbling and enunciate your words! Oh and sit up straight dammit.

Are you using any launcher?
I know with Nova Launcher, I had to turn off Google's NOW ON TAP, for "OK Google" to work.
NOT is a work in progress & it was trying to search the Nova Launcher.
Working fine here and from arms length with screen off face flat down on a table/mousemat.
Hi. I have my nexus 6p for 2 days now, and I installed some racing games (NFS no limits, Asphalt 8), which I control using tilt controls (landscape mode).
At first I started to have a feeling, that the phone is unbalanced. I needed to tilt nexus more to upper side of phone to drive straight in game. Then I put the phone on flat surface (on the edge of table to eliminate disturbing effect of camera protrusion) and started the game. The car directly after the start of race (phone still on flat surface), started to steer, and it steers independently from phone landscape orientation, to the side of the bottom end of phone.
IS IT HW FAULT? Or it is normal and I have to calibrate the sensor. Is there any way how can I calibrate gyroscope on flat surface? Thank you in advance for your answers guys!
Really no one know how to solve my problem? I already tried clean reflash with factory image and it doesnt help.
Some of apps have they own gyroscope calibration option, but it doesnt work for the whole system, but only for that app.
Please guys help me.
Hi Predo, I got the same issue like you, I was just searching about this issue and this post came up, have you sent a feedback to google? Just hope they could give us an update to fix this and the speakers imbalance issue.

No, I havent sent feedback to google. A lot of apps have their own calibration feature, so this bug/ HW fault? doesnt bothered me too much. But it would be nice to have a fixing update from google.

You are talking about the accelerometer...
in my case the gyro(rotation sensor) is off, updating to android n didn't fix it.
i hope a factory reset will force recalibrate this.
I really hate to mess with the RMA services in israel since its not google themselves.
Hi there,
I'd like to know if everyone has to hold the screen perfectly perpendicular to the floor to get it to turn. It doesn't turn for me when i hold it in my hand and turn it? Is it normal because we don't have a gyroscope or is there something else?
Thank you
Nope, when i hold it at a tilt it turns just as fine. Gyroscope is for acceleration measurements, not for facing (which is gravity, not inertia based). How would you even use a gyroscope to turn the screen? You would have to GUESS a new facing from momentum and duration of said momentum.

Mine seems to work as it has in other phones, I don't need to hold it perfectly perpendicular to the floor or anything.
The gyroscope doesn't come into play (ha, get it? ) as phones use an accelerometer and not a gyroscope to determine orientation.
So what can I do to fix this? Buggy sensor firmware? It's like that even with stock.
Using AndSensors it seems the sensor readings are fine. one could definitely implement some detection routine using them. So where to look why the sensor doesn't seem to be read?
Latest update, no overlay software, not rooted.
Nova launcher.
Sensors not covered, all clean.
Answer gesture working 1/10 times... proximity working, hardware test ok, just sometimes working, sometimes not..
any ideas ?

omg, i found problem... it use accelerometer + proximity, and need faster pick up phone to head ))))
Hello. I recently replaced my nexus 6p screen and now surfer the dreaded proximity sensor problem. On 7.1.2 i was able to use torch when longpressing power button when screen is off. (this is via custom rom function. No tasker) now that ive upgraded to oreo, that function is gone even if the rom supports the feature. Im guessing something to do with prox. Idk. Anyways can someone guide me into making a task profile/task that whenever my screen is locked or off i can use torch while long presing the power button? Thank you so much.
Not sure if you read into it, but the broken proximity sensor problem after screen replacement is likely due to a missing rubber grommet over the prox sensor. It falls off or sticks to the old frame. Can't help with Tasker tho
Bollux. Any other work around while im on lockscreen? I mean i know a big change happend from N to O but that big where i cant utilize torch because of a proximity problem? N didnt do it Why does O have to. :'( i mean even with the broken prox on N i was able to utilize torch while screen was off.

Not sure sorry. I have used Torchie from the play store. If i remember right you turn on torch by pressing both volume buttons
I guess my dream of making this work is crushed. Please delete/close this thread mods. Thank you very much.
