Zenfone 2 Laser ZE550KL quick charge not working

I tried the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 quick charger on my ZE550KL 2GB ram model. The starting battery percent was 18% and after about half an hour the battery was still at 42%. I read on Qualcomm's website that SD410 supports quick charging 2.0. But the results speak otherwise. Could it be the software restricting quick charge?

I thought that only the SD 615 version of the ZE550KL was quick charge compatible.

The 410 is also quick charge compliant as well. Check this

The processor supports quick charge, but as far as I know, it's not implemented in the phone.

Yes I tried it too recently and the best rate at which phone charging was 1.1A (I used 2.1A charger, it took 3 hrs to charge from 10% to 100%)
Either we should all ask ASUS to enable fast charging in coming updates or wait for someone to build custom kernel that supports fast charging.

if it's any consolation, the moto g3 also doesn't supports quick charging. It also has SD 410. 3 hours is the time is takes for me to charge it to full with the provided OEM charger as well.

I had Moto G 2015 for couple of weeks. Didn't really use wall charger enough, I used USB charging through PC most of the times so can't really say about charging time.
I found some references online they claimed Moto g3 does charge faster, here is one...

As far as the laser is concerned, has anyone raised this issue with them on forums?

It more than likely has to do with the USB configuration so I doubt any software update will enable that, but to be fair it could be a software based limitation. The USB component needs to allow for the high throughput though.
I personally don't feel too negative about the charge time because I came from an iPhone 5S that doesn't have quickcharging. I am sure for others it is like watching paint dry though.

What I find most disturbing about the phone is that, it came with a 1A charger. You can save some significant charging time if yo use a standard 2A charger.

Have you tested this? Devices will only pull what they are able from a charger so if it was designed to drawl up to 1.35A then even with a 2A charger it will only drawl 1.35A.

I think you are right on this. I just tested and even with a 2A charger it takes more than 3 hours to charge the phone.

Anyone tried using qualcomm 2.0 certified quick chargers?

From this zentalk link, looks like my suspicion was correct. Event though SD 410 supports quickcharge, Asus limited the circuits etc. to not take 2A. Sad!

At least it charges faster on super saving mode.
35% in 60 mins on Normal mode
41% in 60 mins on super saving mode

My ZE601KL comes with a 2A charger in the box. I would say it charges quick when battery is real low and slows down when it close to 80% to complete the rest of the charging cycle.

Quick charge is supposed to charge from 0 to 60% in 30 minutes then slow to normal speed.

The X has Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB v3, the AB variant has some heavy downsides compared to the AA variant, Turbo charging, or better known as Quick Charge being one of them.

Actually we have the AA model. We just have an over clocked GPU.
Looking more at my kernel, theoretically we can reach 2100mA without doing any harm whatsoever HOWEVER something is capping it at 1600 (for all I know, our battery monitor is really inaccurate on this phone) and it may be the chipset. I don't believe it meets Qualcomms specs for QC

Yep, you would then be able to use your device as a toaster and maybe a paperweight too!

To be honest if you're just getting used to using this phone (or don't have it yet) it charges really fast compared to a lot of others. Mine goes from 0 to 100 in 1 and half hours while using it with the stock charger.

Yes ampere works like a charm, if you want to check how much current your phone is taking. And normally 850 mah is default for me using sony's greenheart charger still the phone gets around full from 0 to 100, in 2 and half hrs. Iphone chargers charge at almost 2 hrs.

This has been discussed, it's not charging any faster than it did in Nougat. All they did was add the text to tell you it was fast charging, which to them means charging above 1A. True fast charging would be 50% in less than 30 minutes, definitely this update is not going to do that, no matter what charger you use.

But after oreo update there is a little improvement in charging speed... I charged my A1 in switched off and phones charged in 1hr 35 min from 0 to 100%...and i used the stock charger...

Doing some very basic math.
3000mAh battery.
Charging rate of 2000mAh
That would equate, if the battery were truly at 0%, and charged truly to 100% full 3000mAh capacity, of 90 minutes, in an ideal world. Of course, there are some things that come into play, such as overhead.
With my USB measuring tool, I am able to see the voltage around 5.10-5.20v, and the amperage around 1.85-1.94A. This is with a Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 charger, so I know for certain that it is not doing a higher voltage charge. I can also see that it is not doing a higher amperage charge.
Given this, I will have to see about doing a complete drain on the phone, and then charging, and seeing where 100% is indicated on the phone, in terms of capacity, as my tool can measure the amount sent over USB as well.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.

2 Hour With Stock Charger

I didn't completely check the ratings and time but stock charger DOES NOT fast charge this phone. as the Stock Charger isnt QC2.0 Supported. However this mobile does support QC2.0 but you'll have to test QC2.0 Charger 1st. Not all QC2.0 Chargers work on this mobile. Its a little picky. So go to a shop check QC2.0 Chargers on your mobile. when you get circle Sign on notification bar along side battery then it means that device is fast charging. if not then there will be no circle around the charging sign (Flash sign)
also idt this mobile supports QC3.0 but i dont have tools to check amps volts of charger.
Lenovo's original QC3.0 charger doesnt work on this phone. I've tested. but Motorola's QC3.0 Charger works fine.

my rn5 pro , takes apporx 3 hours to charge completely!

So far I'm a bit slow, a little bit more than 3 hours to completely charge the phone. Might have something to do with the cable.
My current charging setup:
- ANKER 5 port 40W
- a docomo USB cable
Planning to buy a proper 20AWG usb cable and a QC2.0 adapter.

I just bought a Letv charger which supported qc3.0 for about 4$ on taobao

I'm currently on the 9.5.11 build and it takes about 4-5 hours to completely charge the device using stock charger, And it took about 2-3 hours while on 9.2 build.
I wonder if the Mi QC 3.0 based charger would improve the situation for us?

Slow charge is a known bug in 9.5.11 build. Wait for an update or change ROM

13,2W for me

I recieved 9.2.13 update yesterday and have been noticing significant boost to charging speeds since then...yet to fully charge from 0 so can't comment on total time but as per Ampere, charging speeds are in range of 1500 to 1700 mah

1000 mA max with 5v 2amp and Work Normal Speed with Stock Charger
Approximately 2 hour for charge phone

I use the app Ampere (free in Playstore) to measure power input and with a normal charger (non QC) it shows up to 1600 mAh charging amount and from almost 0 to 100% it is taking 2,5 hours. One question: is there a way to tell if QuickCharge is active?

Look on your"s phone status bar. With normal charging there is thunder icon next to the battery. With QC active, thunder in in circle as far as I remember. Info about active QC should be also displayed in the bottom of your lockscreen

Using my usb inline meter, i'm getting ~6.5v and ~2.2A, with a Tronsmart usb cable and QC 3.0 Truro charger, screen off and about 44% remaining on battery. Will try when the battery is lower some other time.

I have no idea why would you do that... But read reviews, no matter what kind of charger you use, this phone only supports qc 2.0 version. From 0 to 100, in 1 hour, you only get like 55%, and in the end it slows down even more, so yes, impossible to fully charge in 1.5h, TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. You are either lying, or mixed times and got confused. Judging by technical parameters, the best this phone can do should be around 2hours from 0 to 100.

I just posted above that I was able to get QC 3.0 charging rates. Approximately 2.2A (fluctuates +/- 0.1A) and 6.6v (fluctuates +/- 0.2v) using a QC 3.0 charger and Tronsmart cable. Measured using an inline meter, not software.

Heating issue while charging ??

Anyone facing heating issue while charging with stock charger? Is it only me or anyone else facing the same ?
Temperature goes upto 45°c ..is it normal ?

i'm using the default charger (out of box, 5V 2A) on RN7 (chinese rom), battery doesnt heat up as the app (AccuBattery) saying temperature upto 36 or 37 C, once i seen shooted at 39 C (max)
but in any case phone was slightly heated on top from behind (adjacent to back camera), i think it may be due to processor but the battery temperature was fine

Battery temp depends on ambient temp too. It's about 36°c ambient here. So may be that's the reason for heating.

i think it is not normal if ambient is 36 and on charging battery temp goes upto 45, you can also check different phones with different chargers
or you can try charging your phone via laptop/PC, it will slow charge the device but you will see the temperature rise of battery be negligible
keep in mind that charger as well as charging cable both may contribute in heating up of phone
by the way which charger are you using?

Yeah, for high ambient it's ok to have high temp. I thought the same.
I am using charger that came with the box.
Saw many people complaining about the same. So thought of creating this thread.

keep in mind that im using chinese rom (comes with the mobile), lucky me my mobile dont get heat up, same is the case with my friend we purchased the same RN7 chinese and both got lucky because mobile isnt heating while charging, although im thinking to purchase QC4 charger but don't know will it improves battery life (cycle) or degrade it at the cost of fast cahrging

A custom kernel could be a solution for heating, or just charge at lower amps.
Reg. Qc4 make sure u charge in an AC room ?lol

I dont think QC 4 require AC room, as my friend owns vivo v15pro with fast charging (5V, 4A). no heating issues, im concerned because RN7 is a budget phone and normally budget phones dont offer QC3 or QC4/+

Redmi note 7 is QC 4 certified by qualcomm.
