Hi,
I am still having the problem where when sending an SMS or trying to make a phone call, every now and again, my XDA II's ability as a 'phone' gives up, forcing me to soft reset.
I have previously mentioned this before here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=26285&highlight=cloud but no-one was able to help me.
Just to reiterate: This is happening daily at the moment and since my previous post on this subject I have done several hard resets. To describe it in detail, when tapping the 'send' button after creating an SMS the button briefly turns into a cloud and quickly disappears, I then get the bubble saying SMS sent.
Until I come to send an SMS or make a phone call I have no idea that the 'phone' function of my XDA II isn't working. Therefore, there have been instances where people have been trying to contact me for hours and I don't know about it because I have a full signal strength.
PLEASE HELP. Would a rom upgrade work??? Is anyone else having this problem??
thanks
all i know is that my gut says maybe!
not rom really but more like radiostack change
What should I upgrade to?? Will that just affect how the phone runs (not the pda)
cheers
once again this forum has proved a huge amount of help.... not. There is another post regarding this problem at the top of the board today. Can someone please help as quiet a few people are experiencing this problem.
RE
What OS are you using on your O2 XDA II? WM2003 or WM2003se and what ROM version?
Can you start fresh by doing a hard reset (make sure you backup all important info)
Do NOT install any program at this point in time.
Then try sending SMS or calling from another phone to yours - to see whether the problem exists with the default programs.
If there's no problem and the default programs work fine that would means conflict occurs between those newly installed programs or between the installed programs and the OS/default programs
If there's a problem at this stage its either the default programs/ROM thats partially corrupted or could be likely due to a hardware failure.
Now, you re-flash your ROM to the same version and see if the problem persists. If after re-flashing the same ROM you still face the same problem then its most likely a hrdware issue.
To confirm further, you can upgarde/flash your ROM to a higher version and see if the same problem persists. At this stage if you still see the same problem then you can 100% be sure its the hardware problem. Bring it back to your service center to have it serviced.
NOTE :- UNOFFICIAL UPGRADING OF ROM WILL VOID YOUR SET'S WARRANTY!!!
However, if after upgrading of ROM and the problem disappears then the problem could be due to a partially corrupted earlier ROM
You can now install programs and occassionally test the SMS and phone to check for program conflicts.
Good luck
Thanks for your help mate. It says what OS and Rom i'm using at the bottom of each thread. I really don't think it's a problem with the applications i'm running because I'm only using the IntelliPad as extra software, everything else which is running is default.
Would a different radio version be worth a try??
RE
OK twichibi,
You can try changing to the latest radio v1.18
If things don't work out try to re-flash to the same ROM version again to check whether you have a partially corrupted ROM initially
If problem still persists try reflashiing (upgrade) to a higher ROM version
If all else fails then you can be sure that you do have a defective hardware somewhere
NOTE : - UPGRADE ROM AT YOUR OWN RISK AS IT WOULD VOID YOUR WARRANTY
Well, thats it, I actually can't pick up my phone when I get a call. I can push the green pick up button as many times as I want, but it wont respond, and I end up having to call people back. Anyone else with this issue? (phone info in sig)
I am only going to take a guess and say that you have a lot of programs that run in the background.
Maybe try not using auto rotate.
I agree with Neobbs although when I first read the subject, I thought maybe you needed to work out more....
Same problem here. I can have the phone in my hands looking at it straight up when the phone rings and the phone goes black for about 5 seconds (or about 2 rings) and then the caller id comes up and I start hitting the call/talk button to answer. It goes to VM eventually and me hitting the green button ends up bringing up the recent call list. Auto rotate is disabled, but I do have weatherbug, open home, caller lookup and IM running in the background. Oh... and I have the transistions/animations enabled. That's all i can think of. I'll try removing the caller lookup app to see if it eliminates the problem.
hi,im running rc33 stock rom on bronze tmo g1 in singapore..it happened many a times, even on a cold boot up..wonder what is the actual problem here, mine is not rooted at all..

he means.. why would you not root your G1???
I think it's a good, fair and valid question.
Do you have installed a customer ring tone ? if yes, choose original ring tone and try again.
I had the same problem when I started using my phone. I dunno what changed but the prob. has disappeared or I got used to hold the pickup button down for a bit longer automatically. I got the feeling that this helped the issue.
My phone is RC33 not rooted... and to answer you question: I've tried but I'm still fighting with my XP to accept the USB driver.
Guess again!

mine does the same randomly. Straight after a factory reset.
nothing installed, and my G1 is not rooted (yet).
has anyone found a solution for this problem?
Using RC33 with weatherbug running in the background, but it occurs with it installed and without it installed
I swear, the G1 must be the worst phone ive ever used
can't wait for the touch pro 2 now...
google can't release polished software if their lives depended on it.. selling a beta phone is just bs

Yep, must be terrible if about 4 or 5 people have this problem out of the thousands who have bought it....
I've never had any of these problems, but im guessing they're (probably) firmware related.

most probably just call back and arent bothered to find out how to fix it on xda
anyways, when you say firmware related, what did you mean?
I installed JF 1.42, and before that, his earlier versions, and way before that my phone started out with RC18, which I then rooted. Would it be linked to that? I've wiped my phone like a dozen times, but the problem is reoccurring perhaps once or twice a day, out of about 30 phone calls a day
additionally, although this may be linked to t-mobiles ****ty service, have you guys noticed a large increase in dropped calls?
I use my phone in both austin tx and houston, and in both locations, about every 10 calls is dropped, I dont know if its just the horrible service they have, or when I move from a location with 3g to edge.
With the new radio, the dropped calls have reduced in number, but still occur randomly
Also, one more thing, and a little off topic, but this has been bothering me,
Is there anyone to get a SMS application that allows me to type using a numpad or something similar on the screen? or at least, have spell correct, cause chompsms' keyboard is way too small to use one handed and still have legible messages, unlike the iphone where the errors would be auto corrected

I'm in austin, tx too and I also get the black screen of death almost every time I get an incomming call so maybe it is a location based thing? My g1 is rooted and I have over 70 apps installed and I'm not about to uninstall them 1 by 1 to see which one could be causing it. In the past, rings extended was said to be the one causing the problem but I don't have that installed.
Also, there have been enough requests for t9 and auto correct with chomp, I'm sure it will be in the upcomming updates
Im running Haykuro now and haven't had a single incident so far. Also, I have 73 (yes, seventy-three) MB of free system memory as I moved pretty much EVERYTHING to the SD card. In return, my phone is unable to boot without my SD card... which is a bit strange.
I have learnt to live with the HD2's quirks the lag when loading texts, the twitter app that still doent work properly the poor battery life and texts that dont reach threre recipients for hours. I have learnt how to flash roms and thanks to miri some of the problems are much better and the phone genreally performs much better than on a stock ROM but i draw the line at this .....
I sent 2 texts to a friend (friend A) of mine this morning and a totally different friend (friend B) recieved them. My phone says they were sent to Friend A but when i check the number that they were sent to its the number for friend B. I have checked the numbers in the contact directory and both friend A and friend b have the correct numbers stored for them. So how the hell can this happen, and how many times might it have happened in the past and I have never known. This is a major security flaw and leaves me just wanting to dump the phone. Has anyone else had this problem?
i've not had it yet. I used 1.66 wwe for the first 6 weeks of having my phone and at the weeked flashed the latest energy rom and still not had it. It could be the contacts are corrupt so you could try deleting them both and recreating them
Bizzare!! I have never had anything like that happen with any phone ever, no matter what brand. It certainly never happened with my HD2.
Is it possible that you accidentally have more than one number for some of your contacts and it's defaulting to the wrong one? It would be worth checking the full contact card to see.
You may have already done that, but it's the only thing I can think of. All the best...
I have double checked and there is nothing wrong with the contact cards. only one number on each and no cross over.
I've experienced it once. I was sat in the pub with a mate, text my girlfriend (luckily not a saucy one!) and my mate got it... checked my phone, and for all intents and purposes I HAD sent to my girlfriend, but my mate was showing me the message on his phone.... beyond bizarre, it never happened again so I dismissed it.
Not had that problem
But I second the love hate relationship becoming to much!
I cant be doing with it, god knows how Im going to live with it for another 1.5 years...
But I cant bring my self to leave it for a smaller screened phone.
Where are your contacts located, your SIM or your Phone? Are you texting people while they are on your SIM, or are they located in your Contact list? I have definitely seen this before, but it is usually resolved once your import your SIM contacts to the PHONE and leave them there.

similar circumstances to me then the lad who got the text works with me so he told me straight away. the wierd thing is how random it was. I hadn't texted him for days and there are no other similarities our links in there contact cards. question is how many times does this happen and you never find out.
the facet that it had happened to someone else makes it worse. its not just a freak glitch, its a bug. did it happen to you on a stock rom?
I think I was running Artemis at the time, part of the reason I left it seeing as I was using a custom. Really weird that it didn't even go into that guys SMS history though, it went to the intended recipients history and I wouldn't have known it went to someone else unless I was sat next to the guy.
all my contacts are on my phone and all sync happily with exchange server.
your right about the history, out was logged as being sent too the person I wanted it to go to but when I checked the message details the number was the other persons!
Two of my work colleagues came up to me this morning and were curious to why I had called them. One colleague received a call yesterday evening at 10:30PM and the other received one at 9AM this morning. Keep in mind the call my other colleague received at 9AM this morning was when I was sitting at my desk.
My call log shows nothing in regards to calling these people.
Is anyone else having this problem or have heard of it?
Both of their names begin with BR. Not sure?
??!!! OH ****...did u install some of this apps?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976913
it's maybe laggy, maybe Malware
if it's gonna be again, just flash it to any custom rom (IF U DON'T WANT TO DO THAT, try to wipe everything, do the factory reset+(if i was you) erase USB storage too)
or
type this on the dial pad
*2767*3855# (it's gonna delete everything !)
or
Manual method is to place the phone in Restore Mode (Power off (shut down phone), Vol up + power on )
Factory Reset then Clear Cache (it's gonna delete everything !)

2.3.X+ was immune to those apps.
Note that, since everyone on Nexus S is presumably running at least Android 2.3, the vulnerability those apps exploited is already patched, rendering the malicious code ineffective. It's only people with older OS versions that need to be concerned. Yet another argument for taking responsibility for software updates out of the hands of manufacturers and carriers.

ok, so did you try to wipe everything? after when you find your "Phone is Making Random Phone Calls"?
I'm new to Android so I just want to confirm I should do the factory wipe?
I don't know anything about ROM type etc...
I don't really have anything " saved" on my phone. A few APPs, I mean literally two or three.
My only concern would be the contacts but those are synced with Google so I shouldn't have any issues. As far as texts, browsing history, photo's, none of that stuff really matters to me.
Should I do the wipe?
I would.
Sent from either my Nexus S, N1 or telepathically using two tin cans and some string.
Do it....no choice
Do you use bluetooth headets?
I read in other android forums for other phones that some ppl had similar issues when they were using really old bluetooth headsets and was causing random dialing. This is supposing your phone's dialer isn't compromised.
I don't use Bluetooth headsets. Just use Bluetooth in my car.
My mom's NS used to make random calls and she uses a bluetooth headset. It was a really old one. I got her a new one and so far her phone hasn't been making any random calls. Also I manually updated hers to 2.3.3 as well. Are you on 2.3.3?
Hi, After Each call i make, my oneplus 2 device sends a strange SMS to an unknown number. i only get network notification about how much my sms cost. and it's damn expensive. please is there any inbuilt software i need to disable? this is eating all my call credits with time and i can't figure out what exactly is sending this sms and where exactly it is going.
Immediately After making calls, i see 'Sending' on my screen, then after i get a network confirmation about how much charge on the just sent SMS.
I am on stock firmware, no root and only WhatsApp installed apart from stock google apps. I did several factory resets but problem is still there.
Please Help.
OnePlus2 Device On Oxygen OS 2.2.1 64gb sandstone black with 4gb of ram.
Are you rooted? This is likely caused because you have installed an malicious app....
I make a factory reset and reinsall a new firmware.
Sounds like you rooted your phone with some shady Chinese rooting software. Better download OxygenOS 2.2.1 zip and install TWRP and then format system and data partition and then reflash the OxygenOS zip to get a clean system. If whatever is sending these SMS messages is installed on the system partition, factory restore using settings menu will probably not remove it.
This seems to be some user installed malware

True that is, never heard of such a thing as an SMS trojan. Factory restore and check if it still persist. You could try installing free Eset antivirus and do a scan for viruses and trojans to see if it finds it.
OR.. your a cheating and about to get busted!
Hope your not married!

Problem Solved Some-how
well after sleepless nights of researching and trying to investigate what exactly the issue is, i never got the solution directly, but rather noticed the problem is with oxygen os, i even downgraded to oxygen os 2.0, 2.1xxx till the latest version and the sms problem still existed even without root and any app installed except stock.
Here is what happened : i noticed the problem is within oxygen os itself, as i strongly believed an in-built app is collecting data analysis and sending them to a remote contact, i have no idea what kinda app it is exactly but i solved this problem after rooting my device, installing custom recovery and installing Android Iced Cold Project custom firmware. wowowow!! it was fast, smoother, sweet and a lot of customization. and hell yeah!! no strange sms after each call i make. i tested it over a week and i never experienced what i was experiencing on the stock oxygen os.
Last year, i bought the Gionee Elife E7 and i experienced same issue, it was sending sms to a strange number and it was really consuming my call credits, luckily, on the developers forum, the issue was addressed and an app was pointed to be disabled or removed after rooting and that solved the problem back then. On My Oneplus 2, i was hoping it should be the same case but unfortunately it appears i am the only one experiencing this issue. and well i strongly believe others might be out there experiencing this. i bought my device from indian market, (amazon.in) and i on a holiday in Ghana, and using it on Vodafone Gh mobile network.
as it stands now, i am happy on the AICP custom rom but this is a serious issue on oxygen os and i think it needs to be checked.
Hope this informs...
