Hello, I am a Sprint customer, and I would very much like to switch to a Nexus 4 on a prepaid carrier. My biggest concern is being able to maintain my google voice functionality. On Sprint I have my phone number integrated so I can text from my computer using my regular phone number. What would the process be to switch to a Nexus 4?
Should I port my number into Google Voice? How will I approach my new carrier in order to keep this phone number?
Thanks!
I'm using T-Mobile Pre-Paid, I noticed that I can't force that service to use Google Voice Inbox features, aka, when I get a voicemail, I have to dial T-Mobile mailbox to listen.
Other then that other Google Voice features seem to work normal.

I'm very curious to see if there's a way to force a carrier to use something like Google Voice Inbox

I had this same problem. I switched to Straight Talk on ATT. If you go with ATT or an ATT MVNO you can forward the calls to your Google Voicemail. If you choose a prepaid TMo MVNO you cannot forward calls. If you choose post paid TMo, you can forward.
In the google voice settings, you have to disable the integration. There's a button for this. You will have two numbers. Port the main number to your new phone. And use the GVoice as a backup.
I'm not sure I was clear enough. The most important feature for me is the ability to text from Google voice of the web using my phone number from Sprint.
In order to preserve this functionality do I need to port my number to Google voice? What is the process?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda app-developers app
Hello all,
Is there a way to use the fingerprint functionality to unlock the device only ignoring the privacy feature where it just says "missed call" rather than who the caller was or even the content of a text message. I don't care about that stuff. I have an S View cover and would like to be able to call my favourite contacts and get notifications of missed calls that actually show the caller/texter. I just want to be able to use the fingerprint for security to prevent anyone from accessing photos etc but I don't care if they see who has called me or texted me!!
I hope i'm not the only one who wants this!
here are apps that let you fingerprint lock specific apps or functions, such as opening the gallery. I think one is called Finger security?
---------- Post added at 07:47 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
Download finger security and set it up, while leaving the base finger print security from the phone disabled.
That is what I am doing
Dear all,
I know these are very stupid questions, but i really couldn't deal with it.
First question :
How can i silent a call without giving a giving a busy signal to the caller? Someone called me and i hit the volume rocker to silent the call, the caller later told me i rejected the call(busy).
Second question :
How to prevent the blocked contact from contacting you? The thing is, when a blocked contact calls me, he/she is actually contacting me and its ringing on their side, its just me who doesn't hear it & see it. I wanted the blocked contact to (not to reach me) by rejecting the call from the beginning.
I am new to Asus, and i was surprised and i had myself in unconvienient situations by these issues.
Please help.
Yours Sincerely,
Shadi

You can silence the call by pressing the volume rocker or you can add gestures to silent the call by entering the Settings App> ZenMotion>Motion Gesture.

You can join ZenTalk and state the problems there. ASUS Moderators will help you to solve these problems.

Does anyone know how to get visual viocemail working on the Essential Phone with Verizon? I can't to find any option for it.

You can't. Use Google Voice instead.
I asked the same question earlier. Pretty pathetic that I can't get the VVM app I'm paying for to work. Surely there must be some way? Google voice isn't necessarily straightforward
How about any voicemail notification? I am getting no voicemail notifications, visual vm or otherwise with the PH-1 on Verizon.

Ditto that! I just get some bizarre, incoherent text message.

This is not an Essential issue.
This issue exists when you use *ANY* phone that is not carrier issued.
The Nexus 5X and 6P did not have VVM.
This is one of the side effects of an unlocked phone.

???
Is that with just Verizon?
I am on cricket and have no problem with visual voicemail on my unlocked Zenfone3 and my Essential.
The Pixel got VVM from verizon through the native VVM option in the stock dialer for android 7.1, I Wonder why the PH-1 does not get that option.

I would imagine it's because Verizon sells the Pixel.

Meh, not really a big deal, I just setup Google Voice for voicemail anyway. Works pretty much the same.

That is exactly why.
VVM must be initiated from the carrier side.
Some carriers have a generic app and interface.
Verizon does not.

How do you setup using your carrier phone number and then having it transfered to your Google voice number and voicemail.

Once you've set up Google Voice simply dial *71 plus your Google Voice number and that's it. In the Google Voice settings make sure to select, do not use Google Voice to make calls.

I don't want to use the Google voice phone number, I want to be able to use the number that I have been using for over 20 years now, which is my carrier number. I have a Google voice number, but the settings menu in Google voice make no sense

That's why I said to select do not use Google Voice to make calls. You'll still use your number for everything and GV will handle your voicemail.

Where exactly is that option. Can I change it in Google voice settings. I hate Verizon, but love their service. There is an option to port my carrier mobile number to Google voice but that is $20, is that what you did.

Geez, do I need to hold your hand through the whole thing? Just install GV and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Give me a few minutes and i will write up a step by step for you
---------- Post added at 13:30 ---------- Previous post was at 13:20 ----------
Google Voice as VVM setup,
1. install Google voice from play store
2. Open google voice and choose to get a new phone number and link it to your real phone number( this will not change the number people call you from or what number you call out with.)
3. go here https://www.google.com/voice and on the left choose the menu button, and choose legacy google voice, it is under the settings button.
4. once in legacy. on the right, click on the gear button and choose settings
5. at the top click voicemail and text
6. in the Voicemail Pin section, set your pin for you voicemail. (optional: you can also record your Name/Greeting hear if you want. I setup my greeting by calling into my voicemail and entering my pin.)
7. Save ( you can also choose to switch back to the new google voice at the top if you want to now.
8. Back on your phone, dial *71xxxxxxxxxx (replace xxxxxxxxxx with your google voice number, this will tell verizon to frorward unanswered and ignored calls to your google voice number.)
9. test by calling your real phone from somewhere, or have someone else do it, and leave a message..
10. ???
11. Profit!

Thanks, all done:good:
Folks, I just bought a new phone. When somebody leaves me a voicemail message, I get a SMS text message from the Verizon system that is in some cryptic HTML format. I don't get a visual indicator of the actual voicemail on my phone. However, when I dial *86... everything works as normal. Does anyone have this working on the US997?
I have 3 other unlocked Moto phones (non-Verizon) that natively deal with VVM without a problem.
Thanks!
Im in the same boat and have been digging for a solution. My understanding is its not possible without sverizon framework.

Concerning the text messages instead of actual voicemail notification.... Verizon voicemail notifications are pushed to all phones on the network in the form of an html/text message. If you don't have Verizon VVM app, you get an actual text message. If you do have VVVM app, the text message triggers the proper voicemail notification. The solution is to have Verizon "block visual voicemail" to the phone. When that happens, you go back to basic voicemail and standard voicemail notifications work properly again.
US997
I have successfully uploaded the US997 rom into my Verizon LG G6.
I used this

This will allow you to configure your VM properly as well as remove all the Verizon bloat.
If it get stuck on the LG logo, hard reset and factory reset after the LG tool says ok.
