Folks, I just bought a new phone. When somebody leaves me a voicemail message, I get a SMS text message from the Verizon system that is in some cryptic HTML format. I don't get a visual indicator of the actual voicemail on my phone. However, when I dial *86... everything works as normal. Does anyone have this working on the US997?
I have 3 other unlocked Moto phones (non-Verizon) that natively deal with VVM without a problem.
Thanks!
Im in the same boat and have been digging for a solution. My understanding is its not possible without sverizon framework.

Concerning the text messages instead of actual voicemail notification.... Verizon voicemail notifications are pushed to all phones on the network in the form of an html/text message. If you don't have Verizon VVM app, you get an actual text message. If you do have VVVM app, the text message triggers the proper voicemail notification. The solution is to have Verizon "block visual voicemail" to the phone. When that happens, you go back to basic voicemail and standard voicemail notifications work properly again.
US997
I have successfully uploaded the US997 rom into my Verizon LG G6.
I used this

This will allow you to configure your VM properly as well as remove all the Verizon bloat.
If it get stuck on the LG logo, hard reset and factory reset after the LG tool says ok.

I just bought one of the newly released unlocked S7's. First let me say it is awesome. No bloat and numerous settings that were blocked by Verizon are available now. I popped in my sim and everything works great. The only one problem is that the voicemail app is not on the phone. When someone leaves me a message, I get some wierd cryptic text message. I can dial my own number and retrieve the messages the old fashioned way. After I delete a message, I get another cryptic text message. I assume these messages are supposed to be telling the voicemail app how many messages there are in my inbox. Does anyone know how I can either get a working Verizon voicemail app on my phone or stop these text messages at least?

You need the Verizon visual voicemail app or you need to disable basic visual voicemail on your line.

That's what I thought. I tried installing a Verizon voicemail app from the Play store but it repeatedly crashes and doesn't work at all. It did not look like the standard voicemail app that is preinstalled on the Verizon branded S7. I would like to get the APK that is preinstalled and give it a try but I haven't been able to find it yet.

I have a VVM APK I used on the S5 and S6 successfully if you'd like to give it a shot.
Edit..here's a link to it. Good luck.

I get an "app not installed" error after trying to install it. It seems like the app is checking compatibility before it installs. Thanks for trying.
I as well purchased one of the new unlocked S7's. I have Google Voice setup to handle my voicemail and it works great.

Are you forwarding the Verizon phone number to the google voice number ? I use Google Voice a little but I didn't think it could handle the voicemail on the carriers system.
I have also notice that the video calling option is not available in the dialer on the unlocked phone. Not a big deal to me but it is one more small sacrifice to have the unlocked phone. I haven't looked for a work-around yet.

Yes, I have it forwarding to Google voice number. You can set it up online at www.google.com/voice Also, I don't believe that Verizon Advanced Calling is available for Unlocked phones.

Thanks. I already have my google voice voicemail set up and working. I was looking for a way to get the Verizon phone number's mailbox working with visual voice mail. I had to call Verizon and have them add the "block visual voice mail" feature to my line so that I would stop getting the cryptic text messages every time I received or deleted a message. To save someone else some grief, if you do this, you must reboot your phone before the blocking system change takes effect.
I'm using the old fashioned voice mail service now on my Verizon number. It is tedious but I don't get many messages so I can live with it. My battery life seems to be slightly better on this phone than my old Verizon branded S7. My wife inherited the old S7 when the unlocked version was released. Well played Samsung.

After doing this, do you get any sort of notification when you have new voice mails?
I didn't mind the cryptic texts (in fact, I was able to determine what much of what it meant), but at least those texts let me know I had a new message. But recently they seem to have stopped, so now I get no notification I have a new voice mail

Yes, I get the typical voicemail icon up in the notification bar. My dialer has the number one key set to long-press speeddial my voicemail and enter my password for me. This way it is not much of an inconvenience not having VVM.

When you setup google voice correctly by forwarding your carrier number to google voice you will get it all in one place. It sounds like you setup Gvoice incorrectly. Don't use the setup from the app, use the setup on the website it will guide you in doing the phone code you have to enter to forward your number.

I'm a little confused here. Are you porting your phone number from Verizon to Google Voice, or just forwarding your voicemail to Google Voice?

The way I was able to get google voicemail to work was go into settings, phone, call forwarding, turn on call forwarding, unanswered calls and then put my google voice number there.
Isn't there some setting that can be used to enable it? I was using Lineage 14.1 on my HTC One m7 right before buying my 930u, and that had visual voicemail built into it that worked out of the box with Verizon.
Surely someone on here has a Verizon Galaxy S7 and can pull the APK file off of it for sharing?

I was able to pull the APK from my friend's Verzion S7, but when I try to install it fails saying a package already exists with that name. I can't find the package on my phone though. The package name is "com.samsung.vvm" according to pm on the device. I pulled it using these instructions.
Sorry if this might be a dumb post, but I despise tmobile's vvm app because it never notifies me of messages, so I use Google voice. No matter how many times I disable the voicemail tab in the dialer app, it keeps coming back! Is there a way to link the voicemail tab to Google voice so I stop seeing the following error?
There used to be an option for switching the service, but I don't see that here

If you go into voicemail settings, you can switch off vvm in the stock dialer and the tab won't appear at all, so you won't see the error.
Someone posted a workaround on the Pixel forum that might work by downgrading Gvoice.

I just signed up for Verizon prepaid and everything except Visual voicemail works fine.
But when i turn on Visual voicemail i get a message on the voicemail tab that says visual voicemail not fully activated, and it doesn't progress from there.
Please see attached pic.
Does anyone have a trick to getting it activated?
Thank you!

Happens on my 6 with T-Mobile as well. The actual app works, just not in the dialer
For me, VVM on T-Mobile has always worked fine from within the dialer. I'd like to switch to Verizon though because of coverage issues in my area.
So my Verizon visual voicemail was working all November,
But I noticed that I wasn't getting any voicemails lately, and actually had to call into the voicemail line and had like tons of voicemail.
The visual voicemail isn't working, and I know my carrier has it on the one.. I mean the old November voicemails are still there..
Now when I go to the voicemail screen, it said:
Activating visual voicemail
You might not received visual voicemail until visual voicemail is fully activated....etc...
I check the setting by going into call settings, voicemail, and have the visual voicemail enabled....
Any thoughts?
I'm having similar issues with Verizon VVM. I did get that same message, but then it would eventually populate my voicemails. Now....I don't get that message, but it switches from today's voicemails to older voicemails intermittently until it gets stuck on older ones. If I click on the new one fast enough to play it, I can listen to it before the screen switches to the list of older voicemails....otherwise I have to close the phone/dialer and start over.
I called Verizon and they say that since the OnePlus 6T is not offered in stores, they don't have a troubleshoot procedure to follow. She did try some other Android fixes, but none of them worked. They suggested I call OnePlus to find an answer/fix.
Having the same issue on Verizon with vvm. Shows up for a few seconds and sometimes can play a message but then the whole list disappears. Anyone figure this out...?
I have a US996 and have been on A-O ROM, android version 8.0, for over 1 year. My voicemail notifications worked fine.
I recently reset my phone and went back through setting up Google on it and restoring my apps and all. Now if I miss a call, I have to check to the voicemail by calling *86 since there is no longer any notification sound or notification indication on my phone.
What setting am I missing to get those back?
(No, I never used Verizon's Visual Voicemail or any app like that. And I have not made any changes to my Verizon account recently).

Thank you for your reply.
I'm on the US996 using the A-O US996 ROM. I'm not on a Verizon ROM. I'm not after the Visual Voicemail. And I don't see voicemail.apk in the ROM anywhere.
I'm just after the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can call in the *86. But I don't want to have to guess if I have a voicemail and check it without there being one.
I'm using the LG phone app. In it, I have the settings for Voicemail as :
Service: My carrier
Setup: *86
Notification Sound: (one I chose)
South with vibration: on

I personally have the visual one installed and when I get a notification for a voice mail, I click on it and it takes me to the visual one, then I listen and delete ect. As for location it might be in the priv-apps in system folder of extracted. I'm also on stock Nougat, but same for RR-pie.
I didn't see the voicemail.apk in the Rom. Perhaps because it's not a Verizon based rom. My phone is the unlocked, not Verizon based.
If I were to find a voicemail.apk, would it work on the non-Verizon like that?

This is mine on Nougat from stock based classic rom. It might work for you. I found in priv-apps folder in the vtt-Sprint folder. Yours may be in same area near bottom of list. I am not sure tho because I am not on that rom.
That won't work since I'm on Verizon. I didn't find any VTT apk or anything in the ROM.
I'm sure it's a setting or something I'm missing doing.
I just wish I knew what I was forgettng to turn back on.

Try the vs995 if available for it since you are on Verizon.
So, coudln't get the "Visual Voicemail" to work.
I don't need it to work. I just need the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can check it manually.
Does anyone know what setting i'm missing to get the notification for a new voicemail that I need to check manually?
