I have a US996 and have been on A-O ROM, android version 8.0, for over 1 year. My voicemail notifications worked fine.
I recently reset my phone and went back through setting up Google on it and restoring my apps and all. Now if I miss a call, I have to check to the voicemail by calling *86 since there is no longer any notification sound or notification indication on my phone.
What setting am I missing to get those back?
(No, I never used Verizon's Visual Voicemail or any app like that. And I have not made any changes to my Verizon account recently).

Thank you for your reply.
I'm on the US996 using the A-O US996 ROM. I'm not on a Verizon ROM. I'm not after the Visual Voicemail. And I don't see voicemail.apk in the ROM anywhere.
I'm just after the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can call in the *86. But I don't want to have to guess if I have a voicemail and check it without there being one.
I'm using the LG phone app. In it, I have the settings for Voicemail as :
Service: My carrier
Setup: *86
Notification Sound: (one I chose)
South with vibration: on

I personally have the visual one installed and when I get a notification for a voice mail, I click on it and it takes me to the visual one, then I listen and delete ect. As for location it might be in the priv-apps in system folder of extracted. I'm also on stock Nougat, but same for RR-pie.
I didn't see the voicemail.apk in the Rom. Perhaps because it's not a Verizon based rom. My phone is the unlocked, not Verizon based.
If I were to find a voicemail.apk, would it work on the non-Verizon like that?

This is mine on Nougat from stock based classic rom. It might work for you. I found in priv-apps folder in the vtt-Sprint folder. Yours may be in same area near bottom of list. I am not sure tho because I am not on that rom.
That won't work since I'm on Verizon. I didn't find any VTT apk or anything in the ROM.
I'm sure it's a setting or something I'm missing doing.
I just wish I knew what I was forgettng to turn back on.

Try the vs995 if available for it since you are on Verizon.
So, coudln't get the "Visual Voicemail" to work.
I don't need it to work. I just need the notification when I get a voicemail. Then I can check it manually.
Does anyone know what setting i'm missing to get the notification for a new voicemail that I need to check manually?

I really like the TMo Visual Voicemail and have tried to install. Every time it falils. Anyone know when this will be a working app.
Don't install from the market. It will fail because Visual Voicemail is already built in to the MT4G.
Go to the dialer, and on the bottom bar, there's a voicemail section. If you already have visual voicemail as a service, then you've got it.

have you set up your voicemail yet...i had this problem too, and it was driving me f'n crazy...til i listened to my voicemail the first and set up it...after that, i had my visual voicemail going
Did you go to the Settings under Visual Voicemail and enable it?
I had to call tmo customer service, since for some reason my visual voicemail wasn't checked as a service.
Go to t-mo website and make sure you have visual voicemail as a service listed under your account first.
You need to activate it on your phone. If that doesn't work. Make sure the market version is not installed, go to settings/applications/all, scroll down to find the visual voicemail app, select it then select delete data. That should clear things up but you'll probably need to activate it again in your phone dialer.
What happens? does it give you an error or no vmx listed in there?
Also you may want to try google voice, its free and it has some options that T-mobile VVM does not have.
Mine always tells me my phone is associated with another account. I bought it from the 800 number brand new.

You have to call TMOBILE and have it activated... it would not WORK on my mt4g either until I called them and had it activated on my phone.... I didnt keep it long though I went BACK to google voice, which in my opinion is clearly superior...
I was having the same problem you are describing, visual voicemail saying it was assoicated with another account. After 20 min with T-Mobile tech support their solution was to send me another MT4G. I have a bad feeling thats not going to fix it though.

Received my "new" phone today. Visual voicemail is still broken, leading me to believe it is something on T-Mobiles end. Hoping someone else chimes in with the same problem and maybe a fix.

ditto - similar/same issue here since basically day one ... seems like when i cycle to Edge/2g network off of 3G/HSPA (i force it to Edge only when I'm at home to save battery since I have fast WiFi) - the visual voicemail more/less stops functioning ... a couple things that fix it (temporarily until the next time I go to Edge and/or restart) is to 1) press the menu button while in visual voicemail and go into settings and uncheck enable visual voicemail and then check it again ... after this is done - I often have to hit the menu button again and press 'sync' ... as long as you have a data connection this works much of the time. def seems to work better on 3G/HSPA than 2G/edge ... if that fails I .. 2) just restart the device ... after I do this - this is when I often see the 'this voicemail was associated with another account' or some crap message when I first click on visual voicemail .. but after re-enabling and syncing again - I'm always good to go..
a serious pain in the @$$ but luckily I've trained most everyone in my life on a diet of mostly email and text so voicemails to me are kind of becoming obsolete ... or I'd probably be more pissed..
IMHO, you should ditch the lousy VVM built in and give YouMail a try. It's free and has so many options. Like the ability to choose a different message based on who is calling, block certain callers etc...
Plus, YouMail has a great free app in the Market.
Mine wouldn't notify me when i had a new voicemail. I just use google voice now and no issues.
Same problem here, I keep getting the message "associated with other account". I already have VM activated, and already set it up on my phone. It's fairly random, as my VM will work normally for x number of days. Then all of a sudden I get that message.
VVM issues
I got my phone when it first came out and could not get vvm to work; I called tech support and they said at first it was on their end. A month went by and I called back and they said things were ok on their end, I had added VVM to my account, and then they (2 different people) tried to get me to download from the market even tho the app is built into the mt4g.
I had enabled vvm when I first got the phone and never worked. So this time, I went into settings (open dialer, choose vvm tab, hit menu button) and disabled it, which then did not allow me to get back into settings. So, from home screen, hit menu, settings, manage applications and found visual voicemail and I believe hit button to clear cache and then rebooted my phone. I went back to vvm under dialer, checked the settings and it has worked ever since....hope this may help someone.

I recently rooted with kingo and installed safestrap and flashed jellybeans rom for my Verizon note 3. My visual voicemail app is gone and was wondering if anyone has a link for it? I have been searching endlessly and cant find it. this rom is super sweet but I do enjoy my visual voicemail app which was said to not be removed. thanks for any help guys. (no I didn't back up my stock rom so cant get it from there)
if you have any question about the rom I flashed let me know. customization to the max!!!
I don't even have the capibilities to get Visual Voice mail.
Why would that even be possible? I have a smart phone, I want a program to manage my voice mails, not a phone system that's 100 years old.
Is there a way to get free VVM? do i just call in and enable it?
Also, idk if its just me, but I don't get actual notifications.
Facebook doesnt even tell me" You have a new notification" it just has the badge.
For EVEYR OTHER app I have no matter what it is, it just says that: "You have a new Message, Unread email, Notification" but not the content of the notification.

I tried it on MJ7 and it didn't function. It did install correctly, though (Hmmm. I didn't have TiBu for this device; crap I can't remember if I was able to DL it from the market or if I grabbed the .apk from a different device)
The pre-installed (Touchwiz?) Voicemail app seems to work exactly the same way - voice messages are locally cached onto your phone. (No evidence of a 3G/4G call in progress when you "listen to a voicemail".)
Hmmm. I think I am being billed by Big Red a couple bux/mo for the "privilege" of using that app. Mebbe I should call them.

lol There is no "extraneous crap" that comes along with Google voice... I've literally been using it ONLY for visual voice mail for like 4 years now, and I couldn't live without it (it's very easy to disable using it for calls or sms).
I don't know how Verizon's VVM works (it's probably crap), but the best thing about GV is that it's very neatly integrated into android. When I miss a call and get a VM, I tap on the notification and the VM plays. Easy peasy. It's also accessible directly from the call log.
Not only that, you can set it to have Google email you a transcription of every VM. It's not always 100% accurate, but if I'm in a meeting or busy, I can get the general idea of what the message is about without even putting the phone to my ear. It's indispensable and FREE. Stop being stubborn... do yourself a favor and get it.

Yes, I downloaded the ATT visual voicemail app, and voicemails are showing up there.
Edit nevermind:
I have to go to the visual voicemail app to see the voicemails. this is how it was on my Galaxy S4 too
I'm seeing another voicemail-related problem with my S7 Edge International (G935F) with my AT&T SIM. When I try to change the Call Forwarding numbers (CF Busy/No Answer/Unavailable/Always) there is no number shown and I can't change any of the numbers (in particular, change CF All to my VM number or change CF to another person). Trying to change anything gets a Network Error message. Is this how it works for others? I also have an AT&T-branded LG G3 that has the same problem, but an AT&T Samsung S6 can change the CF settings.
for people that have the ATT Visual Voicemail app. Have you noticed that the phone will give you the notification that you have voicemail and the app itself will not provide you with the notification until you open it up and choose refresh. I do have notifications turned on. Other than that this app works fine.
I just bought one of the newly released unlocked S7's. First let me say it is awesome. No bloat and numerous settings that were blocked by Verizon are available now. I popped in my sim and everything works great. The only one problem is that the voicemail app is not on the phone. When someone leaves me a message, I get some wierd cryptic text message. I can dial my own number and retrieve the messages the old fashioned way. After I delete a message, I get another cryptic text message. I assume these messages are supposed to be telling the voicemail app how many messages there are in my inbox. Does anyone know how I can either get a working Verizon voicemail app on my phone or stop these text messages at least?

That's what I thought. I tried installing a Verizon voicemail app from the Play store but it repeatedly crashes and doesn't work at all. It did not look like the standard voicemail app that is preinstalled on the Verizon branded S7. Are you forwarding the Verizon phone number to the google voice number ? I use Google Voice a little but I didn't think it could handle the voicemail on the carriers system.
I have also notice that the video calling option is not available in the dialer on the unlocked phone. Not a big deal to me but it is one more small sacrifice to have the unlocked phone. I haven't looked for a work-around yet.

Thanks. I already have my google voice voicemail set up and working. I was looking for a way to get the Verizon phone number's mailbox working with visual voice mail. I had to call Verizon and have them add the "block visual voice mail" feature to my line so that I would stop getting the cryptic text messages every time I received or deleted a message. To save someone else some grief, if you do this, you must reboot your phone before the blocking system change takes effect.
I'm using the old fashioned voice mail service now on my Verizon number. It is tedious but I don't get many messages so I can live with it. My battery life seems to be slightly better on this phone than my old Verizon branded S7. My wife inherited the old S7 when the unlocked version was released. Well played Samsung.

When you setup google voice correctly by forwarding your carrier number to google voice you will get it all in one place. It sounds like you setup Gvoice incorrectly. Don't use the setup from the app, use the setup on the website it will guide you in doing the phone code you have to enter to forward your number.

The way I was able to get google voicemail to work was go into settings, phone, call forwarding, turn on call forwarding, unanswered calls and then put my google voice number there.
Isn't there some setting that can be used to enable it? I was using Lineage 14.1 on my HTC One m7 right before buying my 930u, and that had visual voicemail built into it that worked out of the box with Verizon.

I was able to pull the APK from my friend's Verzion S7, but when I try to install it fails saying a package already exists with that name. I can't find the package on my phone though. The package name is "com.samsung.vvm" according to pm on the device. I pulled it using these instructions.
I don't know exactly when it started, but it's been at least a month. I can't get visual voicemail to work with any dialer app on custom roms.
Whenever someone calls me and leaves a voicemail, I have to dial the number and listen to voicemails like it's 1999.
But if I flash the factory image, it magically works.
I tried downloading the factory image and using the flash-all file to wipe the phone and start over. After doing that, I have working visual voicemail on stock AOSP. But if I flash a custom rom, it stops working again.
I've tried wiping cache and data, and rebooting, but still nothing.
The only way it works is on stock AOSP.
I don't know what else to try. Help?
