So... Everyone is still getting screwed by Google 'eh? How about that $279 that basically no one can get because we are all on family plans... Well THERE IS A WAY AROUND THIS! >.> <.< Quick before Google catches on, buy yours.
Now that the fun is out of the way =) I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, I looked but... We all know how that goes. Disclaimer: This is based 100% off personal experience, I tried everywhere to find a better way to buy it, and trial and error got ME here. So don't steal my stuff eh? ~Note: If you can link me to somewhere that already has this I'll give them credit, but I really figured this out myself.~
Tested on 2 upgrades on my personal family plans.
So we know that you have to be on the "Even more" type plans to get a discount, or even be eligible for one right? (Well now you do) So what to do for those of us who have been with T-mobile for years, and are eligible for an upgrade, but we have a different type of plan (this workaround is ONLY tested with family plan).
So Here is what you do:
~Give T-Mobile a call and ask them to change your plan to an Even more (any one of the eligible ones) at the END of your billing period.
-Basically what this does is put an "activator" (their word not mine) on your plan which will switch your plan to the even more when your account month is up, this doesn't change any info yet!
~Log onto Google, and buy your phone! As soon as they put the activator on in their system Google's system registers it and you become eligible for the upgrade discount. ($279)
~Give T-Mobile another call before the end of your billing period, so basically before the activator changes your plan, and cancel that activator. Everything on your current plan will remain intact, and Google doesn't charge a cancellation fee. (Havent yet =>) I recommend doing this after you've received your phone or when you can see it is shipping. Just in case.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, but this worked for me! 2x! Woot loop hole! Besides it was time I gave back to XDA. If you wanna donate.. I haven't figured out how that works so what ever...
1/26:Still no fee so... Yep!
Just to be safe I want to make it clear this is a short term result so far and you should always talk to T-Mobile before changing anything!
Google hasn't charged the ERF yet... How can you be sure that they won't? They have 120 days to do it...

This would have been good info to have prior to my struggles with the process. In the end, though, I am glad to have bought it unsubsidized. Good catch though.
I think it's still too early to speculate that you won't get charged an ETF. There is still plenty of time for google/tmobile to charge you the fee and/or locate and charge people using this loophole. All they would have to do is check the # that was upgraded and check with tmobile at the end of a billing cycle and see if it is still on the supported plan.

So you're making what appear to be definitive claims, without actually knowing if you're right in the long term. You're only right "so far"? Isn't it irresponsible of you, considering that people may rely on your conjecture and end up being charged $350 as a result?
2 Reps said it shouldn't void the terms of sale... so if I get screwed ill let you guys know but if it doesn't work I would have at least liked to know about it... call them yourself to verify!
I'd probably suggest putting a disclaimer on your first post saying that only so far you haven't been charged, and it is possible you may be in the future. To prevent other people from just blindly following your suggestions.
Haha its in 2nd post
I don't want to start a new thread for something this remedial, and the answer might be good to add to the guide...
The FedEx overnight shipping is awesome! Do you have to be home for delivery though? ie, do you have to sign for it, or is it such that you can leave a note asking that they leave it in your mailbox type thing? My purchase date will be affected by this, and I am sure others will be as well.
I honestly don't know might ask I know mine had to be signed for

I had a feeling it would be that way... wonder if I should set the shipping address as my work then? That would guarantee it would get signed for, they also get delivered to around 11AM instead of 4PM(FedEx always comes around 4PM to my place)... and seeing that I work 5 days a week, and live 2 blocks away, doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Yeah, you can do that... just make sure you call your credit card company and let them know what you're doing and to expect a charge for the amount you get quoted by Google as soon as you place your order. The credit card company can hold up the transaction for an extra day or two to investigate since the shipping address and billing address will be different. It happened to me (had the phone shipped to my sister's place in Chicago where I was visiting when the N1 was released).

Since we have this '30 day, if you don't like it. return it' thing, I planned on returning mine just for the simple fact that I want one that was built better (minor glass separation/light leakage/etc). My question is, does Sprint monitor this and make notes on your account?
I'm a new customer coming from AT&T, and after my discounts they don't really make too much off me and I heard the more money you spend the more they're willing to be flexible. I know AT&T had a red to green meter in terms of how much 'trouble' a customer was based on how much they get every month and what they've done for you, does Sprint do the same thing?
PS: Does anyone even know what the meter is supposed to tell the workers who see it? Be nicer? Be meaner?
PS: Anyone have any clue when the new shipments come? Every store in a 50 mile radius of me is sold out and clueless.
Nah I don't think they do...You will have to pay a restocking fee though (about $35)
If its defective, they will exchange it. No reason for your mystery meter to be involved.
Well when I talked to SCS (*2), they said that the people at the store would be the final judge on it and I get the feeling that they won't agree that my leak leakage and screen separation is enough to be considered a defect. The girl I talked to said it was only cosmetic so they wouldn't just exchange it.
After reading posts, it seems like every different person you talk to says something different. Such a pain that they don't have a set procedure for something like this.
tell them you'll return it and go purchase it somewhere else.
They'll exchange it easily if you're within your 30-day window. Just go ahead and check it out.
Just tell them, why the ****-would-anyone pay so much to get locked into a 2-year contract to get anything less than a perfect phone (cosmetic & hardware wise)? Ask them if they would buy a brand new car with dings and dents on it. I mean, it's only cosmetic right? I'm sure the car drives fine.
And then see what the manager says.

Thank you. I've been trying to figure out how to explain it without sounding like a **** and you've summed up everything I've been trying to say.
I'm not sure what to do at this point, seeing as I have no idea when the new models are supposedly coming out or when the stores would even have them in stock. Is my best bet just to return the phone outright, cancel my contract and wait? Think I'll get hit by a restocking fee?
I for one can praise Sprint's 30 day money back. *2 people were excellent and politely answered all my questions. Also the Sprint store was excellent as well. I just walked in with my Evo, box, and receipt and told them that I would like to cancel. Employee took my phone and started processing my request No Questions Asked. During the process she just politely asked me as to why I was returning, I just told her that I wasn't getting 4G at my home. I got a full refund and she even offered to return the Silicon case I had bought from Sprint. Now that is customer service. Got a full refund (no restocking fee because she said my phone was defective), full refund on my silicon case and I didn't even have the charger for my phone. Could of easily kept the red battery and 8GB mSD card..
Sprint is awesome. I was wondering the same thing as well. If I cancel and get it again in a few days will it matter? If not I'm getting another Evo asap.
I just realized something as I was gathering all the things that came with my EVO. I think I mailed the original receipt to get my rebate. They should be able to pull up all the information still right?
My situation is a little different. I bought the EVO at full no contract price. I need to exchange it for a new one, but we all know you can't find any in stock. I got mine from sprint.com. They insist on doing an exchange, just so that your 30 days is from the original purchase. But since I payed full price, I'm just gonna pay full price for another device and return the EVO (no exchange). That way, I have 30 days from the new purchase. Surely they should have some EVO's in stock by then. Paying full price, I refuse to settle for a refurb.

ok, i admittedly have no first hand experience with this, but it is my UNDERSTANDING that you have the 30 days on the first phone, but the second one you are stuck with (unless, of course, you purchase another one outright). like i said, that's just my UNDERSTANDING from speaking with a Sprint rep last year.
and i have to BELIEVE that when the fixed EVOs come in, that Sprint will waive the 30 day window for, let's say, seven days. they've worked so hard to improve their reputation for customer service that it would be silly to wipe out all that hard work and spent money all at once.
There is NO RESTOCKING FEE if you are a new customer within the 30 day trial period.
I don't get paid until the 2nd. That is when I'll get my Epic. Will the price drop any more than 199.99 you guys think? The trend of the other 2 Galaxies on the other carriers have gone down to 1 cent.
If I buy from Amazon, and it goes down in price within a few days or a week, will Amazon honor a price adjustment? Because if they didn't, can't I just get a refund and then order it again, but just to save the trouble, they will give me a "price adjustment" like any other store, right? Anyone familiar with Amazon return policy? I just want to know, I'll probably research it myself, but its almost certain I'll buy from Amazon, since its the lowest price around.
Also, do they charge the tax? At the Sprint store they charge you the tax of the original price of $500, can I avoid the tax or just be taxed off the 199.99 price? Anyone familiar with purchasing on Amazon please help me with these questions, thanks, and hope all you early birds come on here to notify us of any major issues, etc.
As you can tell, I'm very tight on money, but I can afford the monthly cost of owning the Epic, are there any other ways to save money? One of the 3rd party local Sprint stores told me they can get me 25% off my bill every month for the duration of my contract. How do they do it? Is it a PROMO code they run into the system when I go through them? Is it possible to get this promotion myself through Amazon? Anyone know? Thanks.
Have a good weekend
The price might drop after the release. However since the epic appears to be shipping a few weeks after release I suspect the price won't drop for at least a month or 2. Even if it did, you cannot return and rebuy the phone. This is because if you returned the phone you would need to return it, cancel your sprint contract, and then restart. However there is a 90 day waiting period after canceling before you would be eligible for the new contract phone prices.
As for tax, they don't seem to charge it in many states. However phones may be different. I am not 100% sure on this.
Also I don't know what 25% discount they were refering to for you. Most of those are employer discounts. e.g. teachers get 15% off monthly, sears employees get 25% off, etc. If you are a student you can get 15 or 25% off through studentrate.com and they are still taking phone preorders and though the up front cost isn't amazing, the overall price is $175 for the phone and you get a free car charger or invisible shield I think.
so are you saying if i order thru amazon they won't ship it to me RIGHT AWAY?! Oh gosh, thats a bummer, you're saying I have to wait a few weeks? What about studentrate.com? Are they shipping right away once it hits the 31st??

This is false, there is a zero day policy for returning equipt dropping a line and opening up a new line with the same phone I did it about 3 weeks after I got my Evo and got another Evo from a different store since the manager at a Shack wanted to be a douche and not swap out my Evo when it clearly had screen separation issues. I cancelled the whole darn thing and there was nothing he could do about it then got my money back went into a different store and got a new Evo and another line activated at full discount.

That's odd. Entropism I believe, who claims to have been a sprint repair technician and is now a sprint sales consultant said there is a 90 day wait, and the wait it tied to your SSN for when they do a credit check, so if you had a contract with sprint and cancelled it, you'd have to wait 90 days for the full new customer discount. Oh well, the internet is full is misinformation.

Maybe that only applies to people who have been with sprint 30 days or longer. I don't think they would refuse someone who is brand new because they cancelled their initial contract for whatever reason.
Sent from a FRESH EVO using xda app
When I cancelled my Evo in mid-July, I told the Sprint representative handling the cancellation that I was going to wait for the Epic, and specifically asked if the cancellation would be held against me, and he said not at all.
I guess I'll find out for sure on Tuesday!
My guess is that if there is such a rule, it applies to cancellations outside of 30 days while on contract, and perhaps to cancellations off contract as well. In either case, it would appear that the way to get around that is to open the new line first, then cancel the old one. Surely they can't retroactively change the price of the device once you've purchased it, right!
When the xoom had the $207. off coupon I bit and put it in my cart and when checking out I had the free gel case and free 2nd day shipping and when I pressed complete they changed my order and charged me the $29.99 and standard shipping with which it's just coming today after ordering on the 24th if I hadn't called them last week who knows when this order would have been shipped ! well I called them and I said I would like to cancel this order and the customer service guy said I can't that it already has been shipped which it wasn't and then an hour later I get a email saying my order was shipped which it wasn't then 3 days later it shows up being in UPS hands in texas being shipped ! If you think this is the way a company should do business then their is something wrong with you ! I felt like there forcing this on me, I called my bank and told them of this the night of the first email and it wasn't charged and then I called after the charge and then said let them ship it and then do as they say RMA it back ! I could never ever buy from motorola again after this experience, This is going back, I have to wait for it to arrive >they (motorola) Says and then call then for an RMA They could of made this a little less painful and just canceled the order when I called But no they want to force this on me ! Screw them

Wow you're really complaining about this? It's the same when you shop everywhere, when it's sent to the warehouse for fufillment they can't go back and cancel it, you have to return it.
But in your case, you stand to profit atleast $100 by putting it on ebay after getting that coupon deal and you're still complaining. You could also get your shipping refunded through amazon if you wanted.

This is what 12 year old rambling looks like.
Post count, it's all about the post count. It's easier to increase it with complaints than productive posts.

What this board needs is active mods.
If mods removed the posts:
1) talking about tablets other than the xoom
2) complaining (for some insane reason) about getting the 25% off coupon
3) complaining about known limitations at release
I think this forum would be a lot more pleasant.
wow dude i would be just as pissed if i got 200 bucks off for scamming the company.
i kinda feel the op's pain... I ordered a xoom with a 10% off coupon, then as soon as I read the 25% off one I ordered again using that coupon, and immediately called to cancel my first order. The lady said the ordering department was closed until next morning.
Called back the next morning and got the run around from like five motor cs reps one even hung up on me. When I finally got someone willing to help and not transfer me to the beggining option menu, they told me it was shipped and could not be canceled. I had to refuse shipment. Needless to say it didn't ship until the following tuesday.
So I refused the more expensive shipment and kept the 25% off one. Then I look and they charged me for the free gel case. I called moto, got the same run around as before until someone finally
was willing to help. Now I am still waiting on a refund for the gel case and the original order..
As long as it all works out i'm happy I got the discount, as there are many that paid $800 for this device, on the other hand... DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS DIFFICULT!?
Of course you get charged for the free gel case! But did you realize that the price for the Xoom was much lower?!? In fact, I gained more than 25% off due to that! I don't know exactly what they did but here are my bill details:
Xoom: $571.09
Gel case: $ 21.40
Shipping: $ 0.40
Tax: $ 35.56
Total: $628.45
Now do the math: The Xoom PLUS the gel case add up to LESS than $599 which would have been the 25% off for the Xoom.
My total was $660... motor guy put a "high priority"ticket in for my refund. Still no money :'( but like I said as long as it works out, I camt really complain ;-)

Never underestimate how stupid people are on Ebay. And remember most sellers don't charge sales tax, so you could buy a Xoom on ebay for over $800 and still get it cheaper than at the store.

LOL quote of the day.
I wouldn't make a new forum for this but since is here I'll give my experience....
I ordered around 5:45 est on the 24th, My order said it would be here between March 1st or 2nd. Watched forums and patiently waiting....After about a week I decided to call(On March 3rd). First call gave me a scripted response that it would ship today.
I waited till the next day and had no info, So I contacted live chat this time hoping they could fill me in. They escalated the issue and said I would get a call back.
About 45 minutes later I get a call back saying that the order couldn't interact with their system so that the order would be cancelled. So I accepted it and didn't put up much of a fight.
About 8 hrs later my order was still in my system so I decided to call back and see what was up. The CS agent tells me.....Your order is not cancelled and will ship today. So I was a bit happy to hear that yet still not convinced why I am told conflicting reports.
So Saturday morning I decide to call since I heard nothing. They said their order department is closed and expect a call within 24-48 hrs.
On Monday I get in touch with someone who puts me on hold for 5 minutes while trying to get into touch with their "Executive Order Department". He comes back and says he can't get in touch with them so he would call me back within 10 minutes when he knows something.
I get a callback from him about 20 minutes later.(I appreciate he actually did as he said). But his response was that they have no further information on my order and someone from the executive order department would call me back. I could of swore this is the same dept. he was trying to get in touch with originally to see my order.
So a cpl hours later they call me up and its the same lady.(One of the nicest ladies I have ever talked to) She continues to apologize and gives me the same info she told me Friday about my order forced to be cancelled.
This time I was a little more prepared because I was sorta expecting it since she told me that before. So I asked what I could do and she gave me a phone number to call and see if anything could be done.
I then called the number and started explaining my case.....the lady then responds that we had JUST talked a minute ago. I said that this was the number that you gave me to try and get this worked out. She then said Hmm......I guess the system is auto transferring you to me.
This is the 3rd time btw that a rep gave me a "proper" phone number to call and it ended up going someplace different.
She gave me another number to try and gave me her direct line in case I ran into any more problems.
I then tried the new number and it did indeed lead me to a salesperson. I explained that my order was cancelled and the runaround I got. She said I am sorry and you won't be charged. I said well "I want the Xoom".
She then puts me on hold and comes back and says she can place the order under the same price. She takes my CC and says ok it'll take 2 days or so to clear and we say our goodbyes.
Thats about where its left off. There is a charge of $600+ on my card now from the order but I have no receipt/email information regarding my order.
So atm my original order is still an open order with my CC and shipping sitting there but I have been assured they will not charge me for it. I also have a second one ordered that is supposed to clear within a day or day.
I would likely still buy a Moto product even though I consider this experience to be a nightmare. Anyway...Thats my little rant/experience with Moto.
Great deal but definitely a hassle!
And I don't know why people think it was "cheating" motorola. They offered a coupon. We used it! If you're in this forum I would expect that you know most online coupon codes have a limited number of activations. Once that limit is hit, the coupon is no longer valid. Just because we used a coupon doesn't mean a company has the right to treat their customers in this way.
I'm just going to come out and say it. You guys are acting like a bunch of vaginas. I got the deal, yeah I had to wait ,yeah I got the run around but the BS is in the past. *****ing about in a forum ain't going to do nothing for you. Suck it up and drive on.

I'll take it off your hands for 660! quick easy and you wont have to deal with moto!!!
Why is there constant flaming? This is the kind of thing that turns good forums into bad ones. The OP has the right to talk about his experience (especially in the General XOOM section) and maybe this might make it onto a blog site and be seen by a Motorola exec and force them to do something about it. I've ordered my XOOM last week with the 10% discount and just got a call saying it didn't go through their system so it will be cancelled. This thread was useful for me to see what my next step should be. Plus it's annoying to be charged $800 just to have the order cancelled. Thanks OP for this useful thread.

How many of us are there left? I have blocked all updates, so I don't think the charge killer will get me, but if AT&T goes after the imei...

I don't think AT&T is going to care either way as long, as they are getting paid for the phone on a monthly basis. My plan with all of this is to turn my Note 7 in for the next note device after it has been supposedly released in February. The way I see it, it will still be on warranty. I hope I'm right.

I've disabled all ota updates from Samsung. This shouldn't affect me.
This will be interesting........
I intended to return mine the last week of the year. I recently had surgery and am laid up until after the 19th. If they kill my phone with me not being able to return it for documented, legitimate medical reasons and with this device/service my sole means of communication for emergency services if needed. What happens if I need help after they kill my phone?

I don't have confidence that the Package disabler will block all updates.
The nightmare continues....
Against doctors orders I went to the AT&T store today where it took 2+ hours to return my phone for a refund. The first person had no clue what to do. Finally the manager got involved. The refund was .5% less because the tax rate was higher at the store where I purchased it. They couldn't cancel my line or my account in the store so I called Customer Care from the store. I then found out that there was a contract on the S2 Gear Watch that I got with the phone as part of a bundle deal. "OK, I'll give you the watch back, accessories are part of the Samsung buy back, right?" I was told I needed the box, and all the original packaging..... "OK, I'll keep the watch and pay the $10 /month for the remaining time." Nope! you now need a data plan with the watch! That will be $40 per month, thank you. Remember, I now do not have a phone with them of any kind. After 3 calls and 30 minutes on hold, being told multiple times different things on the phone and by the store manager I ended up early cancellation on the watch which costs me about $135. I am also being told now the watch can not be unlocked so it can be used on another carrier.
Do not believe the BS that they are covering the accessories.
I thought to make things easier I would do it on the last day of the billing cycle which I thought was today. Later I found out that the verbiage on the web site is confusing and it was really yesterday. Then I find out that ATT does not prorate the last months bill. My monthly bill is normally about $100.
So now I have a $235 bill coming for device I either don't have or can't use (It still is a watch I suppose) and service I can't use all thru no fault of my own because of the Note7 recall.
I will most likely be buying an S8 but you can believe me when I say it will not be from ATT.

I didn't use a package disabler program. I hid packages using a shell. I should be fine.
No way in hell i would have left paying early termination. I got my watch with my Note 7 and I've been told several times if I turn my phone in, i can also return the watch with no contract fee. I would escalate the matter cause thats crazy

I didn't pay anything. They refused to take it back since I didn't have the box and are adding the early termination to the final bill, that I have yet to get.
