Problem solved itself... strange...
IPA and jack plug
I read some accounts of cleaning the headphone socket with cotton buds, but didn't fancy getting the fluff off the bud in the hole. In the end I wet a jack plug with alcohol and rotated it in the socket, that fixed it.

My O2 XDA mini has got it self confused. I can get a phone ring but otherwsie I can't get any audio, phone or pc, except through the headset . A soft reset doesn't sort out the problem.
Have I got some settings wrong? Does anyone have a solution please? TIA.
If you are referring to your wired headset then it is possible that something has come loose in your headset jack and now your phone thinks you always have a headset plugged-in.
A bluetooth headset should override the wired one.

Do this: turn off the phone (hold down the power) and remove the battery. Then, look at the bottom slot where the battery is and you should see the wired headset connector. Use your stylus and wiggle around there. Try it again.
Seems like there is a connector loose somewhere - this happened to me twice before.
Were u hearing a click sound when you were opening and closing your device before this happened? I was on mine and ignored it, then my earpiece died as well, i opened the device up and found out that a piece of plastic went loose and was hitting the ribbon cable and after a while it just cut it. So the wire in the ribbon cable which leads to the earpiece isn't making a connection anymore causing it not to work.
Hey,
I've got a problem with my headphone jack on the top...
Even though there's nothing in it, it "believes" a cable is plugged in and thus of course outputs all sound to the empty jack and not to the speakers
Is there any way to repair it or disable the jack completely?
Thanks in advance,
Xenon O
I had the same problem. I was already thinking of a hard reset. But after about 1.5 a 2 hours my phone suddenly reconized that the headset was plugged out. (try'd about 100 times in and out) and my phone went beeping the whole time. Now it works fine.
Mentioned this on another thread as well.
Problem exists on both 2.3.6 Motoblur and Latest Jokersax ICS Kang so I'm not thinking a software issue just yet.
I can play music through the loudspeaker without a problem, how ever, when I plug the headphones in, all I get is massive distorted mess of what is playing (I have to turn the radio/amp up fairly high to be able to hear this)
The phone is detecting the presence of headphones.
Any ideas? Broken socket?
try different headphone and check the audio settings (just in case the EQ is all messed up on headset mode) and also if problem remains then while plugin rotate the jack or twist cable a little and see if audio output changes.
That happen to me sometimes. My problem is because I have my phone in my pocket all the time and little dust get in to the plug so I need to clean it.

Did you get resolve your problem. Same problem is there with my hand set as well. I'm using 2.3.4 with build 4.5.91. The problem persists while in call as well.
Try cleaning you headphone socket with alcohol ( spirit).
Okay, I've semi-solved it.
Its clean as a whistle, and has been alcohol'd so that wasn't it.
I tapped it on the back where the jack sits, and it came back to life... I suspect dry/bad soldering to the board to be a cause.
I plug and unplug the socket 2/3 times a day as I use it with my car radio (I do have the official car kit, but the car charger bit broke, and the audio out from the car kit is very bad and also doesn't send my calls through the speakers without disabling loudspeaker while driving !)
Hi!
My Nexus 4 is stuck in headphones mode for a few months now. Sound on headphones is just fine. I tried cleaning 3.5mm jack, but no difference. I'm using SoundAbout app now to make phone usable, but it's anoying to manualy switch every time I plug in or out my headphones. I ordered new headphones jack from ebay for 8.95 pounds from UK (new user, can't post link)
I replaced it, but N4 is still stuck in headphones mode Before I replaced it I've done factory reset, but not yet after replacing.
Looking at the plug it seems like phone detects when headphones plug shorts two pins in connector that connects to the tip of headphones plug (pins are not shorted if connector isn't plugged in). It doesnt have a "switch" like some other connectors.
Phone was not even near water and I never dropped it on the ground.
What do you think it's wrong? Maybe damaged motherboard?
I recently bought a used Nexus 6P and I knew that it had problems. I resolved all of them except that the phone thinks that the headphones are plugged in. When I bought it I thought that it was lint or headphone plug tip broke off in the jack. This is not the case, I did the standard factory reset just in case it was something software related, tried different ROM's and tried cleaning the jack with air and qtips etc etc.... The last thing I tried was to disassemble the phone and completely remove the headphone jack, because I have Bluetooth headphones and I also ordered a new headphone jack online, which is on back order. The phone still shows that headphones are plugged in? Does anyone else have any suggestions on anything else I can try? I am thinking that it is a problem with the motherboard or does it need a headphone jack plugged in to operate properly?
Edit: Something else I have noticed, I have an app that toggles headphones on and off and it shows the status of the headphones. When I first boot up in the first 20-30 seconds I can remove the headphones from the jack and it shows unplugged then it will switch back to plugged. I have also attached a logcat I stopped it right after it showed that it was plugged in again. Also is it possible to just deactivate the headphone jack by making edits to the rom or would it be a kernel thing?

It has been awhile so I cannot remember where I read it but i found out in my case it was in the board. If you have swapped out the headphone jack already and it is still giving you problems then it is probably the same problem. I bought another phone with a cracked screen on eBay and swapped the board that the headphone jack plugged into.
