Hey,
I've got a problem with my headphone jack on the top...
Even though there's nothing in it, it "believes" a cable is plugged in and thus of course outputs all sound to the empty jack and not to the speakers
Is there any way to repair it or disable the jack completely?
Thanks in advance,
Xenon O
I had the same problem. I was already thinking of a hard reset. But after about 1.5 a 2 hours my phone suddenly reconized that the headset was plugged out. (try'd about 100 times in and out) and my phone went beeping the whole time. Now it works fine.

Hey all,
I have a mini jack in my car that I plug my phone into for audio when i'm driving. Yesterday, when I unplugged my phone the sound didn't kick back over to the phone. I tried unplugging and re plugging over and over but no dice. If i plug my wired headset in, I can hear the sound/talk as expected. But I'm unable to get any sound to come back through the speakers.
Is there an option that I can tweak to disable the mute? or has anyone else had this sort of issue before?
Thanks in advance
OK Looks like there's a small slide catch inside the mini jack port. I took a thin piece of stiff wire and gave it a good jiggle inside the port while i had a song playing so i could hear if it kicked on and sure enough it did. i guess the mini jack plug i have in my car is maybe a little too big, it's one for my old mp4 player that has a/v.
but oh well i know a fix know,
i took the advice from this thread

Hi gang,
Plugged my headphones in this morning and only the right ear worked. There was no sound at all coming out of the left side.
I've soft reset the phone.
I've confirmed the headphones work on both sides using my laptop.
I've tried plugging and unplugging.
I've blown into the headphone jack. Hoping it's just a bit of dust.
All to no avail.
Does anyone else have any suggestions?
I guess the headphone jack is busted? Maybe you could try another set of working headphones in the phone just to be sure, or stereo bluetooth headphones if you happen to have some layin around lol. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, good luck.
Ok the problem appears to have gone away. I tested out another set of headphones and they had the same problem.
But when I plugged my normal set back in it worked.
Later that day only the right side worked. So I unplugged and re-plugged the headphone jack and they came back to life... Not sure what the problem is.
Hi!
My Nexus 4 is stuck in headphones mode for a few months now. Sound on headphones is just fine. I tried cleaning 3.5mm jack, but no difference. I'm using SoundAbout app now to make phone usable, but it's anoying to manualy switch every time I plug in or out my headphones. I ordered new headphones jack from ebay for 8.95 pounds from UK (new user, can't post link)
I replaced it, but N4 is still stuck in headphones mode Before I replaced it I've done factory reset, but not yet after replacing.
Looking at the plug it seems like phone detects when headphones plug shorts two pins in connector that connects to the tip of headphones plug (pins are not shorted if connector isn't plugged in). It doesnt have a "switch" like some other connectors.
Phone was not even near water and I never dropped it on the ground.
What do you think it's wrong? Maybe damaged motherboard?
I recently bought a used Nexus 6P and I knew that it had problems. I resolved all of them except that the phone thinks that the headphones are plugged in. When I bought it I thought that it was lint or headphone plug tip broke off in the jack. This is not the case, I did the standard factory reset just in case it was something software related, tried different ROM's and tried cleaning the jack with air and qtips etc etc.... The last thing I tried was to disassemble the phone and completely remove the headphone jack, because I have Bluetooth headphones and I also ordered a new headphone jack online, which is on back order. The phone still shows that headphones are plugged in? Does anyone else have any suggestions on anything else I can try? I am thinking that it is a problem with the motherboard or does it need a headphone jack plugged in to operate properly?
Edit: Something else I have noticed, I have an app that toggles headphones on and off and it shows the status of the headphones. When I first boot up in the first 20-30 seconds I can remove the headphones from the jack and it shows unplugged then it will switch back to plugged. I have also attached a logcat I stopped it right after it showed that it was plugged in again. Also is it possible to just deactivate the headphone jack by making edits to the rom or would it be a kernel thing?

It has been awhile so I cannot remember where I read it but i found out in my case it was in the board. If you have swapped out the headphone jack already and it is still giving you problems then it is probably the same problem. I bought another phone with a cracked screen on eBay and swapped the board that the headphone jack plugged into.

Thanks for the Info
I was able to isolate the problem a little bit more... more Information and possible updates: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/looking-schematics-audio-circuit-t3717278
I got my Mate 9 Pro wet on a run a few weeks ago, I dried it out pretty well, however every time I plug headphones in now, it screws up a bit, thinks headphones are still plugged in, this lasts for a few days then returns to normal!
Of course while it thinks headphones are still plugged in it sends all audio to the headphone socket, so calls etc have no sound. (I've installed SoundAbout which is pretty good, I can enable and disable sound to the headphone socket with a widget button.)
I'd rather avoid doing this and simply switch to USB-C headphones.
I bought a USB-C headphone adapter, but the phone doesn't recognise it.
Any ideas how I can get the phone to send audio to a USB-C headphone adapter? SoundAbout has an option that says it send audio to the USB, but it doesn't!
