Verizon LG v20 on T-mobile - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hey I have an LG v20 from verizon. Well I have noticed even before this phone since the release of their advanced lte the service has gone way down hill!
Anyway wondering if anyone has brought there verizon v20 to tmobile. Does it work alright? Advanced calling work?

Talking from personal experience. On the stock Verizon ROM, you don't really get LTE, like rarely does it happen. If you do the dirtysanta unlock bootloader and install the US996 ROM. You get LTE connection and such. Even then though it's still not perfect.
Probably would be better to get a TMO v20. Not really worth the hassle

Seeing as how all Verizon phones are GSM unlocked I don't see why there would be a problem. You will want to see what bands the Verizon phone has for LTE. T-Mobile uses bands 2,4 and 12. I used an iPhone 5s that was for Verizon on T-Mobile for several months and it worked just fine.

It's a problem with LG phones. My Moto z Verizon works fine on T-Mobile,also my Moto z force . MY LG G2 had issues and had to run a custom ROM to get GSM to work right. What the guy above said about rooting and flashing a ROM is the only way it will work on T-Mobile. I have a Verizon V20 and it's a no go on T-Mobile with LTE.

With the Moto phones all I had to do was install T-Mobile sim and it worked with no issues . Forgot about the LG problem or I would've never bought the V20. Got a 40 inch LG TV free is the only reason I didn't return it

That's even when seeing it to global and having the best apn settings set?

Yep ....will work for a minute then the signal just dies and a X with empty bars comes up,then you get bars with a E and calling and text will work but no LTE

[Q] Putting D801(tmous) variant on ATT?

So I was looking over the difference between D800 (ATT) and D801 (TMOUS) and it seems that the reception difference is D800 has an LTE band 5 and the D801 has an 3G band of 1700. Whats the practical difference in reception? Seems like att is starting to grow band 5, and 1700 is tmobile. I travel to some remote areas and I think tmobile works there and att struggles (not sure at least it did 2 years ago), but do like the idea of freely switching between the two without having a tradeoff. will probably start with straight talk for att but will switch to the tmous if i cant get service where i move.
Please share thoughts on the best strategy...
thank you
Trying to get an answer on this also
Hi.
I've been trying to get an answer to this also, my post received no answers

From my own, uninformed research I think we will be fine taking the T-mobile LG G2 (d801) to AT&T.
Looking at the information below taken from Phone Arena, the LTE band 5 isn't in all AT&T LTE phones
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/HTC-One-X-LTE_id7376
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-Express-I437_id7515

Going off of this research I've ordered the D801 but It is possible I can turn out to be wrong.
This explains it more

I'm currently using the Tmobile version on ATT and haven't had any issues so far. The only problem I'm having is it appears there is substantially less support for the Tmobile version.

The D801 CM maintainer was out of county apparently and I'm guessing he held off on uploading everything since he's been gone for a couple weeks and didn't want to push something that would be broken for weeks by chance. We'll start seeing a good bit of roms in the coming weeks and by everything moving to KitKat we'll be in as good of shape as any other device since our devices are plenty similar to each other.
LG G2 d801 (t-mobile) with AT&T straight talk activation help...
I just tried to activate my factory unlocked lg g2 d801 with straight talk with at&t. I set my APN up for the at&t network and used the at&t sim card that came with the straight talk bundle. Now on the lock screen it says invalid SIM card.
What do I have to do to make my phone work? Thanks in advance!
I borked phone flashing a T Mobile based ROM on my canadian G2 (since they both are the D801; by personal research I've observed the D803 works as intended on my canadian D801). I will try later today to flash yet again another T Mo rom on it, but this time I'll flash back the stock kernel. I'll report back.
Just to play it safe, I'd reflash your stock kernel... that way it won't act funny all of a sudden along the way.

Thanks, but I haven't rooted my phone and don't really intend to unless I absolutely need to. It's factory unlocked right out of the box.
It turns out Verizon was holding things up. I'm so happy I'm leaving them.
I tried setting up my APN, but now I can't download or view any media or picture texts in messenger or hangouts. Any suggestions?
LTE on AT&T with D801?
I can't seem to find a clear answer on whether it's possible to get LTE indication and speed on a D801 (TMo) used on AT&T.
Tech Support is giving me the "we can't guarantee data speeds on non-AT&T-branded phones".
This thread seems to say a TMo-branded phone (LG G2 in my case) CAN be provisioned for LTE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506590
Most other threads say no, or there's no conclusion in the thread.
Can anyone give me the straight answer and tell me how to go about it? A way to get past the stone-walling AT&T techs?
I have H2O which uses AT&T's network but only HSPA+ and not LTE but the phone sees AT&T's LTE network when searching for networks.
In this thread there is a screenshot of a T-Mobile phone getting LTE indication on the AT&T network.

Along with a lot of confusion about why his phone was working on LTE. As a relative newb to this stuff I couldn't make any sense of it.
Also in that thread was this comment:
T-Mobile devices support ALL AT&T and T-Mobile bands, except LTE Band 5 (used by AT&T in a few rural areas). What's wrong is AT&T turns off LTE for non-AT&T devices. You have to call them up and give them the IMEI # of an AT&T-branded device (even if it's not yours and even if your SIM isn't in it/you don't plan on using it). They don't check after that.

So it might be possible to "trick" the carrier into allowing LTE?
Guys, I'm not getting data and sms on my unlocked d801 on at&t. Can anybody share APN settings for at&t that work?

Sorry for hijacking but anyone moving from D801 to ATT can share their APN Settings. Cant get internet to work to save my life!

I want to use my T-Mobile LG G2 on AT&T

On January 24th, 2014, I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile mainly for the price. T-Mobile is sending me a reimbursement for the early termination fee that Verizon charged.
T-Mobile service in my area isn't as good as Verizon and AT&T and I want to switch to AT&T and use my LG G2 that I got from T-Mobile.
I am planning to switch very soon after I receive the ETF reimbursement in the mail.
Will there be any problems with using my T-Mobile LG G2 when I change to AT&T? I have seen some specifications and saw some differences between the T-Mobile and AT&T G2's. Will I still be able to get good AT&T service with the T-Mobile version of the G2? I entered the IMEI# on AT&T site and it shows it's compatible, but was just wondering if it is going to have limitations.
I'm wondering if I should just sell my T-Moble LG G2 when I switch to AT&T and just buy a new phone(possibly an AT&T LG G2)
I use my T-Mobile LG g2 without any problems on AT&T. I did the exact same thing you are doing

Thank you for the reply, are you able to get 4G LTE data and get the same voice signal as you would on the AT&T version of the phone? I just don't want to get worse service than I would get if I got the AT&T version of the phone.

Wait did you just say "AT&T and I want to switch to AT&T..."? Lol. How did that convo go? You: "T-Mobile is jank! Why didn't I check coverage before I did this!?" AT&T: "Idk! Come to our network! Its what the cool kids do!" You "I don't know..." AT&T: "Oh come on! Do it! I want you too!" You: "Okay!!" And... scene.

The tmobile G2 is lacking LTE band 5 which AT&T uses. However my understanding is that AT&T had not deployed band 5 in many areas so there should be no issues.
I am considering doing the same.

I used my G2 on att and got LTE. You'll have to input the APN, but a quick Google search will help you find that. You'll have to pay the phone off or it will get blacklisted and you'll have to get T-Mobile to unlock it which shouldn't be hard once you pay it off.

sorry it looks like this message was months ago, but I want to ask what APN you used to get AT&T LTE to work on the D801. I tried various APNs I found from google searches and I was not able to connect. Using the 'phone' APN, 3G HSPA connects and the data works (a bit slow in my opinion, much slower than t-mobile). I changed the APN from 'phone' to 'pta' and it doesn't connect to anything anymore.
Furthermore, I went to the network settings to choose the network manually. The phone sees both T-mobile and AT&T for GSM, WCDMA, and LTE. When I choose AT&T LTE, it says that it cannot register. The WCDMA and automatically connect choices registers properly. I tried this for both APNs 'phone' and 'pta'. I also saw on some websites 'wap.cingular' and another APN I can't recall right now, so I tried those an no luck finding LTE on AT&T.
yes, this phone works on LTE and WCDMA on T-mobile. The phone was advertised as unlocked and it does work with AT&T 3G. The phone should support AT&T LTE on 700mhz, 1700mhz, and 1900mhz. I live in the Boston area, so I should be able to get one of these LTE signals...

Has anyone brought their Verizon G2 to T-Mobile?

My contract is up soon and I'm quite tired of Verizon and their exorbitant bills, but I digress. I know the VS980 is unlocked so a T-Mobile SIM would work in the phone.

yup. everything including lte will work
I am using on AT&T but my city doesn't have same LTE bands activated on AT&T as that of available bands on VZW G2.
I am using HSPA and HSPAP with no complaints.
Other minor inconvenience includes all stock apps and services of VZW were still active which I had to disable. But other than that no major complaints.
---------- Post added at 09:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 PM ----------
Actually most VZW phones these days come with GSM bands and given misconception that VZW phones can be used only on their network, you can find some good deals on Craigslist.
On stock rom i was only getting hspa
With cloudy roms i was able to change to gsm/wcdma/lte preferred and got lte
No complaints at all im loving it. Sent from my vs980 on tmobile oudy g3 rom simple kernel. ****s a beast

Verizon S7 on Straight Talk ATT

Title kinda says it all. Got a Verizon s7 I'm using on Straight Talk with my att nanotechnology sim and everythiNguyen works fine except I can't seem to SEND mms, receive them just fine but sending seems to be an issue. 4G LTE works (in majority pkaces), H+ active when LTE not on, calls are seamless (excluding the prefix issue), and texts are fine. I've set up.my apn for the att network on straight talk so ik that's no issue. Anybody else with a s7 or even s6 that can help me maybe? Also before you ask why I didn't just buy through att version, I got this one for 350 off contract from someone I know..... couldn't beat that deal. Also, would've got a Verizon Sim for straight talk but that'll also require buying another CDMA access code and that procedure is tiring once you receive it.
How did you get lte? I am using a Verizon s7 edge with cricket, which is AT&T. All I get is h+ because it doesn't have band 17 or 12

this App works pretty good. it auto detect the MMS APN settings. Been using it for years.

Have you updated your Verizon s7 while on another network? Just curious cause I'm running G930v on AT&T and was thinking about updating if possible, thanks.
I have an offer for a Verizon S7 at a really good price, but long term I think I want to stay with AT&T for compatibility reasons. Does anyone know of any issues that might prevent me from using the Verizon S7 on ATT in a year or two if I don't do any ota updates?
I'm running just fine, decent 4G LTE and H+ for 2 months now. Don't have any foreseeable worries, but am curious about how updating will go if it's a must, but not to worried.
I ran a Verizon S7 fine on Cricket for about a week (phone wasn't for me). LTE was good and was cool to use the hotspot without having to root.

TMobile S7E Compatibilty Issues!

Hey,
I am going to be moving in about a week and my new area has no T-mobile coverage! My phone is completely unlocked but apparently it will not work with ATT, Verizon or Sprint!
Can anyone recommend something? I really hate to buy a new phone right now!
Thanks,
Rich
First get it sim unlocked by tmobile or via ebay and Flash U firmware from here
It should work on all carriers... (some features may need some work depending on carrier... Like VoLTE / MMS etc)
Yeah it's already unlocked. Thanks
Unlocked this phone will run on Att or Sprint.

Flash the firmware for the carrier you want to go to, or use the U fw
I ended up going to Cricket wireless.. I just have to get used to having my download speed throttled to 9 mb.
