Verizon S7 on Straight Talk ATT - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Title kinda says it all. Got a Verizon s7 I'm using on Straight Talk with my att nanotechnology sim and everythiNguyen works fine except I can't seem to SEND mms, receive them just fine but sending seems to be an issue. 4G LTE works (in majority pkaces), H+ active when LTE not on, calls are seamless (excluding the prefix issue), and texts are fine. I've set up.my apn for the att network on straight talk so ik that's no issue. Anybody else with a s7 or even s6 that can help me maybe? Also before you ask why I didn't just buy through att version, I got this one for 350 off contract from someone I know..... couldn't beat that deal. Also, would've got a Verizon Sim for straight talk but that'll also require buying another CDMA access code and that procedure is tiring once you receive it.

How did you get lte? I am using a Verizon s7 edge with cricket, which is AT&T. All I get is h+ because it doesn't have band 17 or 12

this App works pretty good. it auto detect the MMS APN settings. Been using it for years.

Have you updated your Verizon s7 while on another network? Just curious cause I'm running G930v on AT&T and was thinking about updating if possible, thanks.

I have an offer for a Verizon S7 at a really good price, but long term I think I want to stay with AT&T for compatibility reasons. Does anyone know of any issues that might prevent me from using the Verizon S7 on ATT in a year or two if I don't do any ota updates?

I'm running just fine, decent 4G LTE and H+ for 2 months now. Don't have any foreseeable worries, but am curious about how updating will go if it's a must, but not to worried.

I ran a Verizon S7 fine on Cricket for about a week (phone wasn't for me). LTE was good and was cool to use the hotspot without having to root.

Is Verizon S5 unlocked? Can it be used on T-Mobile?

Hey guys. Is the Verizon S5 CDMA + GSM?
Is it factory unlocked?
Can it be used on T-mobile with everything working correctly (LTE/4G)?
Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but I can confirm that the Galaxy S5 that I received from TMobile was in fact LOCKED.
I called the support # and was told that I had to have service and use it for 40 days before it could be unlocked.
I PAID THE FULL PRICE ($720 with tax)!!!
I asked to speak with a supervisor -- after 10 minutes on hold -- no change.
I told the store that I was going to bring it back because I didn't pay $700 for a locked phone. Everyone has been nice but it's locked for policy issues and not for technical reasons. I flew to Canada when I bought my iPhone4.
And, AT&T is worse -- one guy told me 3 months and tech support said it had to be active for 6 months.
>> So, my AT&T sim card is not working in my SM-G900T model.
It is GSM/LTE unlocked (as are all Verizon LTE devices), but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have T-Mobile's LTE bands (or at the very least it doesn't have all of their bands).
From what I have been reading, on a Verizon phone, calls and data using GSM and WCDMA bands would work. But LTE bands are Verizon specific hence would not work.
Tl; Dr Voice /data using GSM/WCDMA. No LTE.

Does this mean, once unlocked, T-Mobile and AT&T versions would work on each other's networks including LTE?
I also noticed that with S5, there aren't GSM carrier specific versions. Meaning they are going IPhone route with making all GSM phones enabled that for that country's LTE bands. Is that right reading?

I am using the verizon s5 on tmobile. It is unlocked and can be used on tmobile LTE. However there are only set modes. LTE/CDMA GSM/UMTS AND GLOBAL. Which means you can't use lte and gsm at the same time (no lte data and voice calls). I usually keep it on gsm, and when I need speedy data I switch it to lte.

How? If you put a TMobile SIM in the phone, or any other foreign SIM, it boots but receives no service. This is in line with almost all other Verizon branded phones (excluding Apple) -- where the phone works (unlocked) outside the US, but won't roam to ATT/TMo in the US.
Pictures please. For the record, my S5 doesn't register on a network with a TMobile or Australian SIM. The Australian SIM in a Nexus 5 roams to TMobile.

This was probably true about a year ago but the recent releases from Verizon, e.g. iPhone 5/5s and galaxy s4 has been fully unlocked world phones. I'm sure there are a few other phones... I think lg g2? I'm not exactly sure. But I have personally stuck my sim(T-Mobile) into my friend's Verizon phones (s4 and iPhone 5s) and they work right away after a reboot. Only problem might be an edit in APN for data and mms. Just sharing my experience, you should check out your phones again.

Not trying to be a jerk, but unless you tried this process in the actual phone in question, then you don't really know if it works. The phone DOES NOT just magically work on TMobile if you put a SIM in, you receive NO service. Now, I didn't go mess around with APNs -- typically those are only for MMS/Data. This is also true for several other phones:
Razr HD / Maxx HD
Galaxy S3
In the past, when the phones were SIM locked, a foreign SIM would prompt for an unlock code before the phone even booted into "normal" Android. That's not the case here -- because the phone is not SIM locked -- but I do believe it is network locked to VZW only when in the US.
For the record, I did try this in my S5. I will be going to Australia next week and will try a Telstra (or perhaps Optus) SIM over there to see what happens.

Yes, I haven't tried it on the s5, but I was pointing out fact that it does work on recent releases which someone confirmed worked on s5 by just plugging it in. I'm also correcting your statement " This is in line with almost all other Verizon branded phones (excluding Apple) -- where the phone works (unlocked) outside the US, but won't roam to ATT/TMo in the US." because Verizon apple does work in the US on T-Mobile and AT&T beginning from iPhone 5. I believe the 4s was still carrier locked.
I was a wireless agent not to long ago, so I know how these things work, not that it magically just works... I'm just sharing you how some recent releases from Verizon has been world unlocked and a few others have mentioned that they just plugged it in and it worked. So good luck and have fun in Australia.

OK Thanks.
It is odd that the apple phones -- and some of the Android phones -- are totally unlocked so that you can use them on ATT/TMobile in the US -- but some (like the S5, apparently) are not. I still am interested to know how some of the other users in this thread got their S5s working on TMobile...
Why would anyone want to buy a Verizon GS5 and use it on T-Mobile? The bootloader is locked and there is currently no unlock method available.
Would you like to exchange?
Would you like to exchange your verizon s5 with my tmobile s5?
i wanted to use it for verizon but the phone is locked to tmobile and at&t.
It would be ideol if i can find someone to exchange it with someone who has a verizon s5 and is looking for tmobile or at&t s5.
thanks,

I can confirm the Verizon GS5 is compatible with T-Mobiles LTE network I'm using one now with LTE all you have to do is go to settings mobile network and switch to Global mode some times you'll have to toggle LTE then back to global to get LTE to kick in.
I am able to successfully use my VZ Galaxy Note 3 and my wife uses her VZ Galaxy S5, both devices on T-mobile Edge, HSPA, HSPA+ (21mbps), and LTE (band 4) frequencies. These devices unfortunately will not do DC-HSPA+ (42mbps), but that's not a big deal for us because LTE coverage is good where we live. We have no issues with making voice calls, or sending SMS/MMS, and don't have to switch APN's or toggle between Global Mode or GSM/UMTS mode. We leave them on Global Mode with the correct APN settings.
Here's the guide I followed for both (with correct APN settings screenshots to accommodate for MMS on page 4 or 5 i believe):

Verizon S5 on Straight Talk/GSM

Hey guys, my girl wants to move from Verizon to straight talk. She paid for the phone right out, so that she wouldn't have to renew the contract. I use straight talk, and have for 3 years now. So I know how to set up the phone with the apn settings and all.
Anyways, I've got it all set up, and everything is working great, except mms picture messages.
If anyone has any ideas, please leave a comment.
If u don't have anything nice to say, please don't even comment.

If you're using Google Hangouts (which i would HIGHLY recommend) It has its own APN settings that you'll need to change which should fix your issue.
Does non-VZW SIM work out of the Box on VZW S5?
Does non-VZW SIM, example StraightTalk, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc. work in VZW S5 with carrier APN? I'm expecting to only get H or H+ speeds.
Please provide feedback if you have tried it. I know VZW S4 works on other carriers out of box.
Thanks,

Im currently having this same issue. Ever since the update 4.4.4 im also having data issues. One min all my phone is getting is H, H+ then ill get LTE until I get a phone call then after I hang up ill lose data for maybe 25-30 secs then it comes back as E, G, then back to H, H+ then finally go back to LTE about 5 mins later. Not sure what is up with that and how to fix this problem. I have factory reset the phone and tinkered with the APN settings. I bought my phone off eBay its a Verizon S5 said it was unlocked but figured since its unlocked I wouldn't have any problem just switching out sim card to S5. Im almost to point in selling my Verizon S5 and just buy a ATT S5 figured I wouldn't have any problems since straight talk is a ATT sim anyways.

You need an AT&T sim it doesn't have to be activated. Im using mine on cricket and got my latest OTA by putting my deactivated AT&T sim and using my wifi to download. I did have to check twice and reboot once to trigger the update. If you change the time in settings up a day you don't have to wait 24hrs to recheck for update.

I have a very interesting question regarding on using tee AT&T variant of this phone on the T-Mobile network. As you may have noticed, AT&T is finally offering Wi-Fi Calling on their network, and this phone is compatible. My question is:

If you flash the U firmware, you'll get wifi calling, VoLTE, and OTA updates. There is a thread in one of the other AT&T forums that has instructions.

you need to get or buy a Gophone simcard or buy a gophone (comes with Gophone simcard), just activate the gophone simcard, you dont need to pay money on it. i never able to get att software update using Cricket simcard but when i put a activated gophone simcard (no need to pay money on it), it lets me update to the latest att firmware ! funny, how gophone and cricket are owned by parent company att but gophone lets me update and cricket can NOT.

[HELP] How to get VoLTE to work on Cricket with BYOD S8?

Anyone know how to get VoLTE to work on cricket, with a non-branded cricket phone? Cricket is telling me it has to be a Cricket-branded phone. Does that mean specific IMEIs or could I just install Cricket S8 software?
Also, does anyone know if VoLTE will work on Straight Talk using Verizon's network? Thanks for any help.

Verizon prepaid was great with VoLTE BYOD. All 3 of my family's phones worked (HTC U11 unlocked, iPhone 6, Samsung J7 Verizon). It was beautiful sound quality. I had to ditch Verizon, because, despite having a strong signal, 4G LTE data performance was very unpredictable. Sometimes my download speed was essentially zero at my home, even though I had 5 bars. One morning during a power outage, I had a good strong signal, but I couldn't bring up a single website using the HTC U11. The Verizon branded Samsung J7 wasn't much better. I called Verizon prepaid support a couple days later, and they had me do the usual ridiculous insulting troubleshooting where they try to blame the user/device. Also, I did hate that there was no visual voicemail app for Verizon on prepaid plans (makes no sense). That being said, I went back to Cricket in order to get normal LTE data performance, even though I get one bar of signal at my home. Now, back on Cricket, the sound quality has returned back to horrible when I call home from work, but data is pretty good. Also, I cannot stand that my unlocked HTC U11 cannot use the hotspot functionality on Cricket without my paying extra. The HTC One A9 my family member uses can serve a hotspot, probably because it's S-OFF and rooted. Verizon prepaid allowed anybody to serve out a hotspot for free. Today I tried an experiment. I called home using Google Duo. My phone and my family member's phone have Duo installed. The sound quality was incredible and sounded just like HD Voice. Essentially, it was a workaround to get VoLTE. The phone at home was on WiFi, and I was using 4G LTE. So, my poor-man's HD Voice will end up carving out bytes from my data allowance. I don't know when and if Cricket will open up all VoLTE capable phones like Verizon did. It bugs me that Verizon had this weird data issue, because Cricket seems to be game playing even more than T-Mobile and Verizon do. I was tempted to try T-MOB again, but they have this ridiculous policy with their prepaid family plan where you have to make a deposit that they keep for a year. Who does that?

U.S. ATT Compatibility experiences so far? And unlock experiences?

Hi folks,
Considering getting a 6T off the OnePlus site.
For those that got the devices early:
-Do you have experiences on AT&T Network to comment on how compatible it is? I've had some devices use to work well on ATT now not so good due to band migration; just curious to hear how the 6Ts fare.
-Please confirm: both SIM and BootLoader unlocks can be done immediately when purchasing from the OnePlus site (as opposed to the T-Mobile edition that's locked)
-Are there band/frequency differences between the T-Mo and ATT Versions? I'm on ATT but usually have bought "T-Mo" versions of devices because they were less likely to be BL locked; but my last phone (OP3T) broke me out of that cycle.
Any other AT&T-relevant experiences would be appreciated.
Interested in this as well.
I would like to know as well. It's kinda looking like we will have to test it out ourselves.
I am on AT&T with the 6t. I've only had mine for a week but have had no issues with anything network related. I came from a 3T and have better service with my 6T. There were 2 dead spots on my drive to / from work with the 3T that I no longer have with the 6T. I haven't had a chance to root or unlock mine yet due to being busy at work but so far I am happy. I loved the 3T but don't miss it a bit.
I have a 6t that I bought directly from OP that I use as my daily phone on Cricket, which uses AT&T towers. I have no signal problems, and download speeds are great. Anywhere I expect to have LTE I have it.
Phone is by far my favorite device I've had. Easy to unlock, install TWRP and flash kernels, and install mods through magisk!
I've bought my phone but don't get to open it until Christmas. It should arrive in a day or two. [emoji1360][emoji1360]

What did you do to get volte? Was your previous phone an att branded device? I came from an unlocked S8 that didn't get volte and I can't get volte on my 6T. Prior to my S8 I had the 6P which also didn't get volte.
I suggest reading this thread, https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/att-verizon-volte-vowifi-calling-t3860031. There's information on how to enable VoLTE settings on the phone. Most of the stuff in that thread pertains to Verizon, but some AT&T stuff too. Ultimately it's up to AT&T to provision your service properly. VoLTE is available. VoWiFi is not. Took me a couple of days & a couple of hours on the phone with AT&T support to get my line provisioned properly because the IMEI wasn't recognized. But that was only days after the phone was released. Would think that shouldn't be a problem now.
Once you get VoLTE working Visual Voicemail should work, but you need to use the AT&T app. However, for me it isn't always automatically retrieving VMs when I get them. My notifications will show I have a VM but I have to open the AT&T VVM app, go into the menu and Refresh. Only then does it pull the VM into the app.
This should be interesting. On my 3T I have ATT visual voicemail working, and it mostly works for transcribing messages (except long ones like my wife leaves...) But I don't think the phone is volte capable so I've never tried setting that up. I don't get to play we the phone til Xmas though!

Yeah. I came from using a 5yo AT&T branded HTC One M7 and VVM worked fine on that. When I first got the 6T (unlocked int'l version) & popped in my sim, I had VoLTE but I couldn't get the VVM app to activate. That's what prompted my call to AT&T support. That's when they told me VoLTE was needed for VVM. I'm not entirely sure how accurate that statement is. The rep tried a bunch of stuff to get it working, including updating my line with the IMEI from the 6T. That's when things went bad. I lost all data completely. Actually, if I switched APNs, I could get 3G data. But it took two days before AT&T sorted it out and I got LTE back. Since then everything pertaining to AT&T service has been fine. I've never found the need for VoWiFi, although it would be cool to have, if necessary. And I wish their Advanced Messaging feature wasn't so limited.

Hi folks,
Considering getting a 6T off the OnePlus site.

On att rn. Have been since the op2. No issues at all ? first thing I do is unlock bootloader
I got my 6T (Int'L) on or about Nov. 23, which I had purchased from OT - I am using it on a Family mobile plan which uses T-Mobile towers. VoLTE was not a part of my original service plan..but because I needed a New Nano-SIZED sim card for this phone, adding it to my account wasn't as straight forward as it normally is. Once I switch my number to the new sim card, I got an email saying if I wanted VoLTE/VoWiFi(?) features turned on - I'd have to go to another website (Cricket/Verizon/ AT&T?) to register my new sim card and this would "turn on" the VoLTE features. After all this I get a Bright "VoLTE" Icon on the status bar whever i get my LTE signals - So it is VoLTE capable. Perhaps AT&T is doing something similar to get your VoLTE activated?
My plan is to do some testing next week for basic stuff before transferring my flag from my 3T. Will report back how it goes. Appreciate any other Insights from other users!

Fired mine up yesterday when I got it. Got it all set up, then swapped out the SIM from
my Mate 9, to the OP6T this morning. Apparently the "speed" issues I had with the 9
are corrected with the 6T. I use a Straight Talk MVNO (tracfone) at&t card. Previously,
I was LUCKY to get between 9-10 meg down, 1-2 up. Now I'm getting 33 meg down, 15 up.
Guess the newer phone has a better modem, or the extra frequencies to work more proper
with the newer device.
So far, no issues, working good.
After my experience with the OnePlus One, I was still a little cautious about buying something
from them again, but, on the surface so far it appears they might have their act together.
Stay tuned.
I came from a OP3 been using the 6T with ATT prepaid for the past month and it works great. Far superior in speeds to the OP3. For example at my house I was getting download speeds of about 30mbps on my OP3 on the 6T I got over 90mbps LTE+ at home! I keep pissing off my buddy who just got the brand new iPhone XS on ATT and he is getting half the DL speeds that I am when comparing speed tests :victory:. Don't think VoLTE works on prepaid but I have yet to try to enable it. About to go to nebraska for vacation to test service out there.
Bootloader is very easy to unlock. Did it the second day of having the phone following the Official XDA employees youtube video.
