Local Wipe Policy/Auto-factory reset? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Is there any way to disable this either natively or by messing with something in /system (I'm rooted)?
It's absolutely ridiculous that the phone will wipe all data (including the sdcard) if someone performs 10 wrong unlock attempts. I'd rather just have it time out and remain unlockable for 5 minutes before letting you try again.
I still can't believe LG thinks this a feature that everyone wants.

Anyone?
Or does anyone know if this issue is just confined to the Verizon model? Do other V20 models have this (e.g. US996)?

Seriously, has anyone been able to fix this?
My wife left her G5 on the couch and ran upstairs for 30 seconds. Our 3½ year old got a hold of her phone and managed to wipe out everything (including the SD card) because of this stupid feature.

Crickets, eh?

I just tried this on my H918 Tmobile. All I get is a 30second timeout.

[Q] Clock Setting Back to Default 1/1/2009 After Restart

My Acer A500 always resets the date & time to 1/1/2009 when I restart it. But yesterday when I checked with my friends A500; that isn't the case. His tab had the correct date and time after restart.
Can anyone tell me if there is any internal battery needs changing?

I was looking at the internal breakdown, and I didn't see an internal battery, other than the main battery. Not like you would see on a PC for example.
Probably, because the newer hardware uses Flash memory, unlike PC's in the old days, which relied on EPROMS and a battery to keep things updated on the Prom memory.
So, unless anybody has some other input on this, that I don't know about, I'll pull a sherlock holmes, and use the deduction method.
This probably didn't occur after you first bought the tab, and the OS was fresh. Otherwise, you would have returned it.
And By the way, what is your current Android version?
I'll have to point the finger, at this time, as some sort of app you downloaded. I can't tell you which one, as I just don't know. Half a million apps on the market, and even more unofficial apps.
I would suggest a factory reset. (back up your critical stuff), and see if the issue remains.
I don't know if you're rooted, or running a custom rom. So I at this time, will say you're not.

First of all sorry for the late reply. Was very busy. Please find my comments in red.

I had this problem from day one. I didn't suspect it as a problem of the tab.

current version is 3.2.1

The only thing that I didn't try due to limited and expensive data charges in Sri Lanka. Can't spend 5-6 hours re downloading everything
I don't know if you're rooted, or running a custom rom. So I at this time, will say you're not.
It is not rooted and I'm not running a custom rom.
Since it is still under warranty I'm thinking should I send it for a replacement.
Appreciate your thouths on this matter.
Try this..
go to settings
Date and time . Look at the Set Date and take note
Toggle off the Automatic date to off .. (un check)
Set proper time and time zone . but change there formats
change the hour format
change the select date format..
Shut down your tablet.. Then restart it.. This might sound useless. But if its a error in the software that controls the clock hardware. This might trigger it to reset. We used to have this issue on the old AMI BIOS CHIPS.MOSTLY on asus main boards. of course try a couple times.. because of the date being so far off it sounds like error in what ever controls the time and date.. Not a android tech . but im guessing the boot loader controls the date.or looks at it at the least..
only other option is to root . install cwm thru acer recovery installer.. DO a backup . with cwm and titanium . that will allow you to not have to re download all of your apps.
As i said the above is likely to not work.. but i know it was a issue on some old old main boards. YOUR FACTORY INSTALL COULD HAVE A ISSUE. Just never seen this with clock....
Good luck and sorry for being so long winded.
Thanks for your post. I'm still unable to get this date corrected. Tried it around four times and still no luck.
I'm just out of guess's on this one. Never heard of it before.
But you're better off taking it back for exchange. Considering it's happened since day one, and you haven't rooted.
Don't they have free wifi in Mcdonalds over there? Or try around the tourist type areas. Cafe's and such. Usually they try and kiss the feet of the tourists.

If your planning on getting a replacement you will have to re-download everything also, which is your reasoning for not doing a factory reset to fix the issue to start with.
I finally mustered the courage and did a factory reset. I had all my data wiped out. Took a long time to get my most used apps.
Well the thing is it did not solve the problem. Still when my tab starts I get the default date and time 1/1/2009 @ 5:30 AM.
One strange thing I noticed is that when I do a restart with my ac adaptor plugged in, the date and time are correct.
Just wanted to post so that it might help someone who's having the same problem.

[Q] My wifes G2 was remotely Hacked

Has this happened to anyone elses G2? I am on verizon with 4.4.2 update and not rooted. He had complete control of her phone. Was writing me messages and kept opening pics of my 4 yr daughter. I diconnected the wifi and mobile data. He still had control of the phone. Then I factory reset it and he still was on it. Verizon is sending me a new phone and getting a new sims card. Is there a way from stoping this from happening?
I truly dont believe though that when you switched off network that someone can still connect. Anyways:
firstly, recap if the phone was ever left unattended, letting someone install something on it.
Dont do that, even if if it has a password on it, anyone not looking away when entering it on the street can see what the pincode/password is.
Apps not from play store, dont install. Ever.
Change all passwords on a safe medium (multiple antiviris vendors scanned) of wifi router, to anything, including recovery questions, make them different and non logical or affiliated to you.
Run virus scans on computer and or any medium that ever connected phone.
Then check apps/websites of mail and such for activity, likely activity at times you didnt use any of the services. Anyway facebook and such lets you close open sessions anywhere.
That should do the trick. And big tip dont get paranoid Just ponder how somehow got acces.
I find it hard to believe that someone could still control the device after a factory reset. Highly unlikely I would say.

1. I really doubt this happened.
2. After disconnecting wifi and mobile data, it would be impossible
3. Factory reset would definitely make it impossible
4. It's more likely that the touch screen is having phantom touches
I had issues with phantom touches on my Optimus G. Drove me batty. Some days it was impossible to use the phone, as the touches were all registering in the bottom half of the screen where the keyboard appears. So random letters would be inserted into words.
Turned out to be a driver issue with the custom kernels in some of the ROMs is using.
Factory reset and being more selective in the kernels I ran fixed the issue.
If it's still happening after a factory reset, then you have a defective touchscreen. Replace the phone under warranty.
Typos courtesy of my LG G2 (D803) running Mahdi-ROM.
I really have no reason to lie to you guys. The messages stopped after I disconnted the internet but the screen was still jumping around. That is why i figured he still had access.
I just received the new phone today. Should I go ahead and get a new sims card or I be ok with the old one?

its possible, if he were root and had something installed as system app.
also you can set stuff like tasker to autimaticaly turn network back on.
what did the messages say, cause if they were gybrisch then it seems like phantom touches.

I would, you could have the old encryption method on the sim card which would make it easier to root the card. But I am guessing what happened to your wife was something more like an AndroRAT exploit.
It could be possible seeing as all you need is a phone number to find your location by txt msg, and that can be done silently without you ever knowing.
Seems it's a built in part of the RADIO AT that providers can use, if you're on the inside and know how it works it'd be a doddle, but if the txt msgs were gibberish I'd go with the majority with faulty touchscreen/drivers and nothing to worry about
Bashing away at my HTC Desire C
Tell to the hacker to try to hack my phone instead, I don't care. I will shoot exclusively for him a pic of my arse as award if he manages to hack it and he can print it, or try to sell to the newspapers.
BTW, I'm not so anxious about apps not installed directly from Play Store. You can easily check or restrict the permissions of any app as root user. I never yet faced the problems.

yeah, all you have to do is google reset password
This could be an issue with faulty digitizer.

device keeps shutting down

No matter what battery i have left, if i leave the tablet with the screen off for any length of time (half hour say), the tablet seems to die?
To start it again, i have to long press the power button and the device reboots.
Does anyone know why? Its only started since recent updates.
My N10 is not rooted, and running 5.0.1.
Any help would be appreciated.
I guess no one else has this issue?
I literally go back ten minutes after using the N10, and it has shut down. Only a long press to reboot will bring it back?
Frustrated

I just bought/ordered a Nexus 10 so I might as well come in here and start talking to people about it. lol
I haven't used a Nexus 10 before but it should be like any other Nexus device. If your tablet is turning off on it's own, first off, pray it isn't hardware related. Hopefully some hardware inside isn't failing on you. But to make sure it isn't software related, I would say use the factory images and do a fresh install. This will set anything that is out of wack straight. If its software related, it will fix it.
Cheers for the reply.
Do you mean a factory reset, and I will lose all my saved stuff?
I'm not very clued up tbh, and only ever update the Nexus when notified.

It's not just a simple factory reset that you do in the settings or recovery. It will wipe your device (Internal storage and all) but it wipes everything including all system files and reflashes everything back to the way you got it out of the box. If you had a software issue and sent it in to get fixed, they would most likely do this. Its safe if you read up on it and know what you are doing. Google gives us the factory images for this reason. Here is an article for instructions. Not used to the Nexus 10 forums so I don't know if they have a dedicated thread for this:
http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/11/flash-factory-image-nexus-device/
I'm sure there are some videos on YouTube explaining in depth on how to do it as well. You might want to watch them and get familiar with the process. It's not that hard once you have everything you need to do it. Just back up everything onto your computer, flash the images and put everything back onto your tablet when done.
Thanks very much. I'll have a read up on that and give it a go.
My tablet used to do that. I've had this tablet since I pre-ordered it on initial release (so it's old!) It would also freeze/reboot at times, especially using any browser, so I naturally thought it was a browser problem. But, it would also occasionally do as you describe, wouldn't turn on unless I did a hard reset - holding power button 15-20 seconds or so. I'm also rooted so I started trying different roms. Finally, I flashed the 10.18 release of AOKP. It's beautiful & runs perfect. I've not had ANY, not a single issue & have been running it since last October. I don't think I'll ever change anything from here on. That's just my personal experience.

Thanks for your help.
I'm going to properly read up on things before I try to resolve it. I don't want to make a mess of it

Internal Clock Issue

I have a Moto G4 Play, I believe it is XT1607, purchased straight from Motorola. I'm running Squid's CM with the stock kernel. Overall it works great, but I have a minor annoyance: when I first turn the phone on from being completely off, the time and date is always completely wrong. I mean off by MANY hours and minutes (like I don't even know where it gets this time from), as well as like 20-30 days. Obviously this isn't much of a problem since time syncs with my cellular network after the boot is complete, but this still bothers me slightly. Every other phone I've had kept the time accurate even when it was off. Is this a ROM issue or a G4 Play issue? Anyone else experiencing this?
*Note that I don't remove the battery when the phone gets turned off.
It's nothing tho. Connect to WiFi or use the latest ROM
I have the same problem in my Moto g4 play. Any suggestion?
It's tied to your Recovery. TWRP goes off whatever the hardware time is. My phone was initially in Mountain or Central time, but even with it set to Pacific Time it's off by several hours and minutes. The only way to fix it would be to modify whatever the heck smartphones use as BIOS/CMOS.

Maybe this is something Moto removes as a result of unlocking bootloader. There's no possible way this glitch exists on stock firmware.

Well, I would gather that the clock applications (CM has two) would be storing that information either in the memory space directly or not at all. That's the only way I could see that file being recreated on boot. As far as I can tell, phones don't have button cell batteries in them, so don't ask me how the Recovery manages to keep time.

verizon apps sucks i root my phone and all and working on a few things (testing) to fix the phone and asking around for advice,
so far this worked and you are welcome to try it
@bond32 gave me this advice to wipe the phone out, system, cache, etc. all of it (dont wipe your micro sd card out and make sure all is backed up)
of corse the phone has to be rooted with TWRP
once wiped, poer off the phone, hold vol up and plug the phone in the PC, it be in download mode, uppercut the KDZ to the phone, it give it a fresh clean start
then root, and enjoy
i am testing this out my self and working on debloating the phone, i wont post it untill i work out some issues and make sure the phone is stable to run
