How long will it take to download all the source code for building a mm ROM with a net speed of 1mbps
be clear ...
is it 1 megabytes per second or 1 megabits per second
what rom you wnt to sync
tell me ookla results... so i can tell you exactly
It's 1 megabits per second
I would like to build marshmallow ROM
How much time will it take to download all the files
It depends on the size of the source code.
Size varies from ROM to ROM . But normally it is not less than 15 GB.
Then if you calculate time required:
15 GB = 15,728,640 KB
Speed 1 Mbps
15,728,640÷128=122,880 Seconds
Converting to hours:
122,880÷60÷60=34.13333333333 hours.
Assumption:
Your bandwidth is 128Kbps, but in real life no ISP provides 100% bandwidth.it will be less than 120 Kbps.
This is a theoretical time, Practically it will take more than what is calculated.
Source is assumed to be 15 GB, increase in 1GB of source code increases time by 2 hours.

just a small suggestion
if you want to get into some Serious rom development and dont have a speedy internet connection... i'ld suggest you to use VPS
many companies offer premium VPS on trial.. and some are free too like amazon AWS(limited).... they usually have a 100 mbps internet.. so that you concenterate more on perfect rom instead of crawling for the internet.
best of luck
sorry for bad english
I couldn't understand.
How will it help me.

Which internet connection are u using?
How's the speed
What exactly is miui patchrom
Is it miui source code.
Now I know that logcat shows the error in ROM.
But I don't understand how to debug those errors.
I mean WHAT change should be made WHERE to fix those errors.
Is ROM development hard or easy?????

lol, but he says unlocked and 576 and the only thing that was unlocked to 576 was ram
yeah its possible.
if you flash a .50 radio, the full 576mb ram is enabled.

people... you are missing the point here.
he meant to enable more ram inside android. just like windows mobile.with radio 50 and custom roms we enable the 576 MB RAM in our HD2 while running Windows Mobile.
but the big question is: could it be done inside androids running in HD2?
and even if it's not possible to enable that much of ram. is it possible to get the highest amount of ram. because more people (including me) are using android in day to day usage.
developers, please advice advice.
thanks.

android is already utilizing the 1 ghz processor.
wait until its possible to flash android on the NAND...if thats not possible, i'm pretty sure, you can never use the "full" ram...
but why should someone use it? i think its never full on android, even when you havent got the full ram enabled.

we do realize its not possible to use all of the 576 mb ram. because the "system" will use part of it to run it self. but the point is to have more ram anyway.
because now when we boot into android we only get 256 mb . half of this is used by android .and when we use the browser or watch youtube it gets really low "like 25 mb only available:.
currently we dont have access to all 576mb of RAM when using android.
I suppose we will get it at some point but this will need to be written into the kernel (at a guess)
Thanks David, very much. First really valuable reply! But I hoped in other reply :-(
so would a new zimage possibly fix this or is a new rom the only way to fix the button sized amount of ram cyanogen is giving me?
Lol, are you actually reading this forum guys?
I've just read one and a half pages of nonsense except David, whose info was some way of valuable.
At the moment, there isn't a full ram map written into the zimage (kernel), neither the start parameters adress the full range of 576MB. For some reasons I'm not aware of all tries to remap and enable the full memory failed so far (there are a bunch of topics out there).

if you look at the zImage autobuilds, you can see that they've been able to SLIGHTLY increase the ram usage, but until it's running by itself(i.e. boot straight into android, no winmo at all) I doubt they'd be able to use the full amount.
So, it's all in the zImage. Roms can't change this.
It is possible....

Yes it is possible, in fact I tested a new kernel (zImage) last night that makes 384 MB available (compared to 256 MB right now). It boots unbelievably quick (like less than 15 seconds!) and the phone runs much smoother, really amazingly quick. When I boot up Android with only 256 MB of RAM allocated to it, I have a maximum of 120 MB free (usually less like 115, 110 or less).
With 384 MB allocated i had about 250 MB free, much better. Last night's kernel had some issues left (wifi not working, issues waking up).
Apparently it's been fixed already so we should have a new kernel available today.
Cotulla on his end is working on getting the 512 MB kernel working and he's close apparently. I think the remaining memory (the remaining 64 MB) will be used for the system or for the 3D buffer..... Not sure though...
Also your current Android build will work fine, all you'll have to do is replace the zImage and edit the startup.txt (to change the memory allocation values) and that's it. It might get a little bit more complex (like maybe replacing the wifi module) but all in all with proper instructions you should be able to do it in a few minutes.
Well let's wait and see... But 384 MB available already makes a huge difference so that's great news...
Hope this helps....
PS: I am amazed at the number of useless posts in response to your question.....

Is their an HD2 forum or Community page or maybe even an IRC room with a more knowledgeable or atleast selective userbase? The devs are incredibly intelligent, but the amount of know nothings makes filtering out the noise headache inducing. Seems XDA is getting too big for its own good.

You should run a speed test.
A common and reliable one is http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
the top numbers in red and green is the TOTAL amount of download and upload data you have used... the bottom numbers in white are the current speed you are getting (if ur actually downloading something at the moment or surfing the web)
Many variables come into play to determine speeds; network load, signal quality, test server location, other obstructions on the pc (such as firewall), etc..
In general, on 3g, i've seen download speeds up to ~1.5 mbps, with average of 600-800 kbps, upload speeds of 300-800 kbps.
4G, download up to 6 mbps, 12 mbps burst with full 4g signal, about 1 mbps upload either way. ymmv
Just did speak easy test from my phone. Got 737kbps download and 372 kbps for upload. These numbers any good??
That seems about normal. Download speeds will go to about 1.7 MBps while upload hovers around 1 MBps.
1.58Mb/s down
.56Mb/s up
Wish I had 4G lol

It may seem like you didn't understand what the screen said, however, when I installed Calkulin's 1.7.1....my speeds dropped to almost zero....basically non-existant. I had to run the new Sprint RUU and email customer service again to do a reset on my phone. Whatever they do, it works! I am now getting 1.5Mbps d/l and about 500kbps up. Something is going on with flashing roms as this never used to happen. Now, it seems to happen all the time. I wish there was more information from others about this or from the DEVS. I am wondering if by tweeking to make it better/faster/smoother....files are being deleted that are intertwined for 3G to work or connect properly.
Also, I am wondering, since in the era of Big Brother, if Sprint knows by reading our systems...if they can monitor and thus limit what is allowed to be used for bandwidth. I ran an app called 3gtest and it showed that all ports were first pretty much allowed except for a few.....then it would show all blocked except for port 22 sh.....just a thought as I know for me, something is borking my 3G and it just started recently after flashing about 100 roms.

I have yet to see anyone come up with EXACTLY which chips are in the phone (guess I'll have to be the one to take a physical look).
It can be spec'd as one thing, show up in a software identifier as another, and still be a physically different chip with whatever capabilities.
It makes no sense at all that Slambung would have made a whole new circuit board to support this same CPU, the same screen, the same graphics, etc etc....
Even without looking I'm willing to wager money it's the same receiver chip with a simple disabled path or lane. Not a all difficult to limit the hardware in many ways (prom flash, disconnected pin, software, you name it). Very profitabable in the long run for a company to do so.
It's very funny to see all these people who say it's not possible because it was written down in the spec sheet that this is the limits of the hardware.
Heh, who wrote the spec sheet ?

I'm not so sure it is all the same. The new vibrant I thought I read will have a better screen then our originals, which would be the Super Amoled Plus screen. I may be wrong, but if it does have that screen which is suppose to get brighter and use less battery then I would assume the main board would be different also.

Source please.
Nowhere does it say that wifi is limited to 7.2mbps.
So Normal browsing and downloads i get roughly 6kb/s downloading. But When I am downloading something that is used as a torrent (think of a Ubuntu file) i can get up to a constant of 40-80 kb/s.
I found this a little odd to be honest. If anyone can shed light as to why I can download via a p2p network at roughly ten times the speed i normally get would be awesome.
all speed test apps say I get roughly 80kbps or less which would go against me downloading via a torrent at 40-80 KB/s. The app is not reporting a false speed either because there is a few minute to half hour difference if not more when i download things via that and then test it on something else. I tried many different servers to see if they were the clogg and it is all the same speed at roughly 6KB/s but with any torrented file I get at least 40 KB/S..
When I refer to torrent I refer to open source projects that is easier to torrent instead of spend a lot on servers.... So no accusing of illegal torrenting or getting off topic please...

With speeds this crappy, it's HIGHLY likely if you run a speed test, then run another a few seconds later, you will get very different speeds.

I've recently bootlooped my phone and had to switch over to a custom rom because there wasn't a high speed download. And I didn't have time for a 12 hour+ download.
