Unlocking bootloader / rooting on the A2017G B04 - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hey guys. I want to root my phone and I'm really confused.
I have the EU version, my build number is A2017GV1.0.0B04.
I've read some guides on how to root your phone and they all say that in order to unlock my bootloader I have to download this B18 to B20 update so it works. I got really confused as I have B04... I then realized that all the guides I read were about the US version of the Axon 7.
So my main question is, how do I root the A2017G? Should I download the B18->B20 (I'm guessing no)?
Thanks in advance! :good:

Perhaps you misread my question. I have the B04 and I'm wondering how I can update it to B20 in order to root it if all I find are B18->B20 downloads. I'm asking, can I install the B18->B20 on my B04? And if not, is there a B04->B20 download?

I would say flash b18 then flash the b18-20
Or to could follow tenfar or tennars method to flash twrp recovery 3.0.2.2 and then flash drajebs bootloader unlock zip

Is it only a recovery? I don't get it. If I install it, will I have root access, or how can I continue from there?

You flash the latest supersu with twrp and you will have root. It even explains it in the thread.
You should be making a full backup with TWRP before modifying your device anyway.

Motorola E4 help please?

Hi guys and gals,
I am ordering the Moto E4 right now and it comes unlocked already. Now do I have to root it, or since it is unlocked it is rooted already? Also since it is unlocked can I just use a one click root?
Unlocked means SIM unlocked. You must unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and flash supersu through custom recovery

Ahh, so to do that I would just have to look up a guide I assume and follow the steps on it. Do you happen to have a video by chance?

Are you trying to confuse the guy? SuperSU will not work. You have to use Magisk 14.0 or phh's superuser.
Has anyone tried getting root without TWRP?

I've been meaning to try the Magisk install with adb but haven't yet. I'll do that some time today.

Which guide? Because 3 years later there are many guides with caveats towards the end of their threads where users say "this method doesn't work."

you can use magisk 18 also
I just recently installed b20, had trouble installing it had to oem lock and oem unlock in b15 edl then update through official recovery to get the thing to install. Well the playstore store now shows device not certified on a clean install, im guessing its because of the oem unlock.

Thanks. I was able to get back from Oreo to Marshmallow via Jcadduno's instructions in the rom/kernel sticky. Used MiFlash + B19 EDL package and then was able to get into fastboot & oem unlock.
I'd like to get to a state of stock Oreo + TWRP + Magisk. Has that combination been achieved by anyone?
Is your playstore certified? Cause on my clean install before i installed any other stuff showed device not certified.

u need to unlock BL. no unlock = no root.
if you are still interested to root:
1. Backup your TA (or not, it's your choice)
2. flash TWRP
3. Install Magisk
Is there already Root for the G8141 Pie?
