Motorola E4 help please? - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Hi guys and gals,
I am ordering the Moto E4 right now and it comes unlocked already. Now do I have to root it, or since it is unlocked it is rooted already? Also since it is unlocked can I just use a one click root?

Unlocked means SIM unlocked. You must unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and flash supersu through custom recovery

Ahh, so to do that I would just have to look up a guide I assume and follow the steps on it. Do you happen to have a video by chance?

Are you trying to confuse the guy? SuperSU will not work. You have to use Magisk 14.0 or phh's superuser.

Has anyone tried getting root without TWRP?

I've been meaning to try the Magisk install with adb but haven't yet. I'll do that some time today.

bootloader unlock
At the moment you can not unlock the bootloader... you can root it...and from the reading up on it I did it doesn't look like the unlock will come soon either... I went through the same thing I feel for you ... best of luck...

Hmm...
So is it just the RAZR M XT907 that got this update? Or did the XT926 get the same thing? My thread I linked was for both, though I only had an XT926 to play with but as with all phones I unlock for customers I check for the most recent updates on the phone and I wasnt notified of any. I'm leaving the thread up because its useful to those who haven't taken it for the XT907, but could it go void because of the inability to downgrade the bootloader yet?

yes, you can reroot. since your bootloader is already unlocked, I'm assuming you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP or CWM)? if so, then you can flash supersu (search for it on XDA) via recovery.

Same process as rooting the previous build. Flash SuperSU in recovery. Pretty basic.

Only if you want to use traditional root, which has been discontinued. Systemless root patches the boot.img for you, so all you have to do is flash the zip.

Yes, if you want to root the stock ROM. If you're going to flash a custom ROM just unlock your bootloader, install TWRP, and install the ROM. No need to flash SuperSU first.

No. Unlock bootloader/flash twrp/flash rom of your liking. Just like @Hisenberg said. Make a backup of your stock rom before you wipe and flash a custom one though just in case.

Yes. It does not rely on root. Just unlocked bootloader.

Yes it does. TWRP is what you use to flash SuperSU, which gives you root.

Yeah, but you don't need root to use TWRP. You can flash zips, custom ROMs, kernels, etc all day and not be rooted.

Do you know what model your friend has? (xt1607- unlocked version or xt1609- Verizon model) If he has the xt1607 unlocked version then he may be doing something wrong in the process. If he has the xt1609 Verizon model then this method will not work on it because at the moment it is not rootable or bootloader unlockable.

u need to unlock BL. no unlock = no root.
if you are still interested to root:
1. Backup your TA (or not, it's your choice)
2. flash TWRP
3. Install Magisk
Is there already Root for the G8141 Pie?

There's only one correct way to unlock the bootloader, with the unlock code sent by Motorola.
Here's a tutorial:

This is about flashing stock, below you'll find flashing TWRP and Magisk i.e rooting. Links for TWRP, ADB and Fastboot and Magisk are included.
I'm about to make an own thread for this and expand it with things like unlocking, decrypting etc .

You don't have to flash stock (that part of the tutorial was written for another user).
After unlocking the bootloader your device will be wiped and if your build number is OPSS28.85-17-6 you should actually receive one more OTA up to OPSS28.85-17-6-2 (Feb 2019 security patch).
After unlocking and maybe getting that update you can flash the latest TWRP as usual and root by flashing magisk.zip from there.
