3 weeks in, battery getting hot. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

The phone was great, didnt regret upgrading at all because I was getting great battery life. I have a lifeproof case, used wireless fast charging to keep my battery between 35% and 80% to prevent any battery damage, never had any heat or quick discharging at all. If I set it down while I slept, the battery might lose 4% in 8 hours... Boom, all of that changed yesterday. If I'm using it, it gets hot and the battery drains fast, if I'm not using it, the battery drains slower but still about 16% in 8 hours. If I put it on the charger it gets warm. I've powered it off and back on multiple times, I've turned off fast charging, it doesnt matter. Use or charging gets this thing all worked up somehow when before it played like a CHAMP. The wireless charging wasnt heating it before, i've only charged it to 100% once a week, never dischaged it below 15%. No new apps. Google play services has the highest power useage. Its acting like its got malware or something.
What should I do?

How long does your G1 last with 2% battery?

I've been slowly draining my G1 since yesterday, with wifi on and auto-check email every 10 minutes. It lasted almost 24hrs before 2%.
I noticed it slowly went to 2% around 12pm today and at around 5:30pm, it finally shutdown. That's almost 6 hours using the last 2% of battery. I did check battery status a few times and also checked websites/market for a few minutes during the last 2%.
Is this odd? Should I wipe my battery stats? It doesn't seem calibrated to me.
Does it happen often that it hangs at 2%, if so wipe the stats and drain and shut off and recharge. Could just be the new battery breaking in.

When you wipe stats you should let the battery die out then fully charge to 100. You should be happy you get so much time out of 2% though
Actually this has happened to me, it seems that once the phone enters the 5% range, it lasts just as long as everything else put together.
i wish i were that lucky to claim any of these things. My phone under very very moderate usage lasts about 2-3 hours from fully charged. It has been like this for a while and the ROM i'm running now is just making it worse. if i dont touch and send a couple texts messages it'll last up to 4 hours but that's it. I'm going to reset the stats and see if that corrects it before i go and buy a new battery.

Which is weird because using the stock battery I can get 12+ hours with moderate usage, this includes browser and wireless tethering.
I've been recharging it for a few hours now. The phone is off. It'll charge for another 10 hours before I turn it on.
Should I have wiped battery stats before I started charging? Or can I just wipe it before I boot up Android?

I guess wiping them at full power wont hurt, but then you must then let it fully die again and recharge it fully.
I just unplugged it from the charger. Booted into recovery, wiped battery stats, then rebooted. It now says it's at 87%. Somehow it took 13% to do those 2 things.
Hrmm, your battery life shouldn't be that bad, custom rom or not. Did you overcharge your battery? That seems to be a common cause for poor battery life.

How do you overcharge it? Shouldn't it stop when it think it's full?
This morning I used 'battery info' in the settings area and it only said the voltage was 4.05v or something and at 91%. This was for at least 9hrs with phone off and using HTC usb charger. I plugged it back in, while the phone was on, and it charged to 'full' in 10 minutes.
I'm recharging with phone on now tonight. I'm also currently using my motorola razr usb charger. It seems to charge faster than the HTC usb charger. It's voltage is now 4.15v and 61% now.

How do you overcharge a battery? If you mean leaving it plugged in long after it's fully charged, that is such a common thing to do it seems like lots of people would have battery problems. Almost everyone I know plugs their phone in before bed, and unplugs it in the morning. Most phones are fully charged in under 4 hours, so that leaves roughly 4-5 hours of being plugged while already fully charged every single day.
Well I'm basing that claim off of a t-mobile rep (hahah reliable isnt it?) who told me that overcharging the battery, or keeping it plugged for the majority of the day (which is what i tended to do) could harm the battery, causing it to give off false percentages or making it unable to hold a charge.
And also, from personal experience, my battery did begin to bulge outwards, and would not hold a charge for more than 4 hours. So I just assumed it was because I had a tendency to plug my g1 in when it wasn't necessary, and keep it charging. So perhaps my previous claim wasn't so well supported. I just based it off of my experience and what the reps told me.

lol haha that sucks
since i download a font pack, keyboard skin and better keyboard once my battery hits 10% it usually dies within 5-7 minutes if i have swift running in the background
but before the most recent updates my battery would last about a hour or more with just swift updating in the background and the music player on pause

[Q] Battery charging time

Hello guys ! how much does it take to charge Note4 ? I plugged my device when it was 18% and only one hour needed for full charge (no fast charging) and it drains very fast, device is not rooted, charger is original
it takes about one and half hours to charge through the original charger with out fast charge if the device isn't in use
and it around 2 hrs to charge if it is in use

Battery life is terrible at normal usage, unplugged this morning and dropped from 100 to 75 in hour at standby, what the hell is wrong with this thing
your battery must be deffective, I got 10-11% overnight when out of the box, after rooting, and cuatomizing, my batt consumes 4 to 5 % overnight in standby, wifi off data off in about 6 to 7 hours, using greenify, amplify , controlling autostarts, and removing bloat, I mention overnight, because in the day Its highly variable how I use it, if your batt last a few hours in standby, take it to your OFFICIAL vendor/carrier to claim warranty, I did it once, with a Nokia N95, and got a New one, luck man?

I changed my first Note4 for its back captivate button, battery drained very fast, when I replaced the new one has the same battery problen, downgraded to KK but no results, charging fast and draining fast, I dont know it is battery's problem or charger problem, rooted yesterday greenified everything but drains :/

[Q] [HELP] Battery drains so fast even idle.

Help guys, my battery drains so fast. It charges so fast also drains so fast like 1 hour and 35 mins of usage and its dead. Then when I charge again it instantly goes 40%+ again even though my battery just went 0%. I tried many roms, kernels and chargers. No hope
I have same issue it even sometimes charges very slow and when its on charger and I'm using my phone battery drains.
Is this a problem with battery or my phone?
* I use stock charger and OTG

I have a used Note 3, one year within my posession (I'm thinking this here's 1.5 years old.) I think it's a problem within the BATTERY itself. Fortunately, spares are fairly easy to find and for cheap. I tried another battery and it gave me 3+ hours screen on time consistently no matter the usage when the original battery could barely eke out 2.

Charging Problems

Is anybody having slow charging problems when the screen is still on?
A couple of days ago it took over an hour to charge from 5% to 25%, all I was doing was social media browsing. As soon as I put the phone down with the screen off the % jumped to 85% in around 30 minutes. I took my V20 back to the LG shop and in the end they replaced the unit as they could see the problem but was unsure what it was. They then tested the new one just before I was leaving and it was again taking nearly 90 seconds or more to charge 1% on the new device straight out the box. They went and give me a new battery and said to test it out for a few days before going back to them. It was there first complaint about the charging speed.
Again, while not using the device the charging is quick on the new device, but slow when the screen is on and in use. I will give it a couple of days and take some screenshots of the battery stats if it continue. It did say on my old device while connected that it was 5hr 45min until fully charged which is obviously wrong.
No weird apps on there that could be causing it as far as I'm aware, unless it's an LG pre-loaded one.
Strange that the new phone is doing the same.
Sounds like that's how the V20 manages battery charging. It charges faster with the screen off. And a lot faster with the whole thing off.
Same thing happens to me. When using Waze app. Even if it says fast charging, its noticeably slower than when i had my note 5 or 7.
Maybe its "heat management"? Im just guessing. Maybe to prevent it from heating fast with the screen on + quick charge
I think it's QC 3.0 - it does it so as to not overheat the battery. I have it happen on mine too when using a QC 3.0 charger.
When using a QC 2.0 charger(Samsung charger) it chargers a bit faster while screen on but the phone starts to get noticeably warm.
It is probably a thermal management thing. My N6 Shamu got very warm on QC2 with screen on.
The v10 does the same thing it's probably because the screen is the biggest battery drain on the phone so using it obviously would cause a significant charge delay.

Normal.
Hmm. I notice charging is slower when it's the temperature is higher.
I just bought a Spigen Rugged Armour case and I think it's trapping heat during usage. And when I start charging, it's not as quick as I had hoped.
I'm going to observe a little more.
Alright. I've done a few days of observations. It definitely charges a lot slower when the screen is on. I used the Ampere app and it charges around 900mAh max, screen on.
When it's off, it averages around 2800mAh, depending on temperature too. Once it hits close to 40 Celsius, it drops to 2000mAh or lower.
With the phone powered down, it charges faster than just screen off. How much faster, I am unable to measure without using some special hardware.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the charging performance.
Turn your screen brightness down. Also I noticed restarting the phone helps with it to charge faster. Could just be a glitch in charging software

Slow charge, fast drain

So I had this 910C for a while. Still love this phone but recently the stand by time kept decreasing. This was my second battery but I used fast charging, so I thought what the heck, I will just buy a new one.
Well I did, and the stand by time is just as bad. Almost half my battery is gone by the morning, and the battery barely wants to charge as well. (it's like the phone is cold and the charger is also just lukewarm.)
So what the heck?
Is there a known hardware defect on the Note 4 for this?
Even if I could replace the phone (but why when it works great otherwise), I would still like to keep it around as a secondary device.
Any ideas?
Ps.: Now when I was writing this, my phone also got quite hot but the AUKEY portable charger is cold. My percentage was 16-17 and it could not go higher.
Well, after long hours of charge the new battery does show 100%, but when I make a call the phone gets extremely hot. Like it burns my face.
This morning I watched like 5 minutes of Netflix and that ate ~20% of my battery.
The battery does not get hot, is not bulked up, it's very hot around the main chip...
Using latest Samsung OS btw, don't even have root installed atm.
