(I've started a thread on zentalk forums on this without reply so I thought I'd ask here)
- I'm an owner of two Z00LDs and I thought I'd do myself a favor by clean installing cm13 on phone [a] then take a backup using TWRP then restore it over to phone , everything was going well until I noticed WiFi issues... After frustrating myself with reflashing back and forth I noticed something on the initial WiFi setup, both phones were using the same mac address! If one phone isn't using WiFi it works but once my girlfriend and I both go online the phones rip each others connectivity.
I was wondering if someone has an idea on how to fix this as I've gone as far as doing a full unbrick reflashing [as shown here https://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-80274-1-1.html] but phone still manages to retain the MAC address.
I know I'm sane because I've checked the units boxes and I confirmed that both of them were using the Bluetooth and MAC addresses printed on phone box [a]
Any help input will be appreciated!

F*ck, seriously?! I've wasted half a day searching everywhere, trying all sorts of mac address editing guides and videos and they were all false.
Many thanks BTW. I'm gonna try sorting this out...

Well I took the plunge and reflash my phone. Pretty nice. But I guess I should have read some more; I lost my data connection; no internet now. What do I need to do to fix this guys? Reflashing stock roms before I never ran into this. It asks me for user name, password and domain? HELP!

Depends who your provider is. I'm on Telus, and sometimes to get my data connection back, I have to dial *2208. Some providers may need a user/password entered though. You can find those settings somewhere in Settings/Connections (sorry I don't have more specific details, I'm running Android, so I can't look at WinMo right now.)
As for what your username and password are, it depends on your provider again. Before, Telus required a username and password, and it was:
u: <10digitphonenumber>@1x.telusmobility.com
p: <the decimal ESN of the phone>
Hope this helps a bit. If not, post your provider, and hopefully someone can be of more assistance.
Thanks for the input, I fixed the issue. But I am surprised that there is not a stickey on this subject given the amount of people who flash (it seems like everyday or couple of hours lol)

I've never once had this problem after flashing ( Bell ). You should tell us what carrier you are with.
Sorry, I am with USCC. The first flash I did presented no problems, the second, I made the mistake of assuming things where good. I had to hardset, and then do a fresh install of The DCD cab for USCC, and set up the connection by editing it. Nothing really major, but sometimes finding the info on here is a bit daunting. Often times what seems to work for one person doesn't seem to help others. Problem now solved thanks.

The above link give an explanation of wifi problems that at least some people are having... three have mentioned identical or similar problems in the Google Help forum. The issue is that wifi worked initially, but now it isn't working on my phone. In my case I'm unable to get any results when I do a scan of available networks, and I've tried to manually assign an IP and connect that way without any success either. In other cases listed in the above link, people are able to still see networks after performing a scan but never connect to those networks. All this is after being able to connect at least once before.
Anyone have a similar issue with wifi? Also, does anyone have any idea on what to do about this issue?
i am having the same problem with my wifi. any chance rooting had to do with this problem?
I have a different kind of wifi problem. It seems to work fine everywhere except work, where we use Cisco wifi access points.
It is only is a problem with Android devices, mytouch 3g, g1, and now the nexus one.
My Touch Pro 2 connects fine.
Looks like the android devices get connected, and even get an IP, but can't browse the web or ping any network devices.
Really strange.

This is my suspicion. I think in the rooting (or the custom rom?) thread someone said rooting screwed the wi-fi, and he had to do it again and then it's fixed
I haven't rooted my phone yet, and I still have this problem. I have installed a ton of apps though... although I don't know how that could be the problem. Is there an easy way to wipe the phone and revert back to how it was when I received it? This is the step I'm willing try before rooting or modifying it in some other potentially warranty-voiding way... I may be needing to return this if I can't get wifi working.
There is a 'Factory reset' in the settings
After trying everything I can think of aside from warranty-breaking things, I called the HTC support and we went through very basic things together then he agreed that they will need to take a look at the phone. They will ship me a packing slip and I'll return it in the same box it came in. The repair station is an hour's flight away (in Houston) so I hope to have my phone back very soon, but I wasn't given an estimate so I can't be when that will happen.

The above link is to a thread on the Google Help forums where I've been keeping track of this issue. Basically the wifi issue is a know issue according to an HTC representative I just talked with, and they will be sending a OTA firmware update out to all NexusOne phones within the next several days that should resolve any issues we are having with this functionality. This saves me from needing to send in my phone for repairs, and if it comes to that they said they will just swap the phones without me being out of a phone at all.
I leave my wireless turned off all the time now because it never ever works. I use my phone routinely between 3 different routers and the phone cannot maintain a connection with any of them at any range (even right beside) for more than 2-3 minutes. I've tried set up static DHCP on the router, I've tried setting the WIFI to never shut off on the phone, both to no avail.
The phone always seems to think it's still connected to the WIFI (the WIFI icon never disappears), but I can't load websites, load the market, etc.
Does anyone have any fixes for this? I've tried many different roms and it's all the same problem.
Sounds pretty much like an issue with your MAC-ID. Have you checked your router's security settings?
If MAC-ID filtering is turned on, you first have to type in the MAC-ID from your Hero, so that it is allowed to connect AND use the internet connection of the router.
Could be dud wifi hardware in the phone. My wifi stopped working after a month or so, tried many roms but didn't,t help. Sent it back to the shop and the replaced it. No problems since (six months)

Like I said, same problem with 3 different routers. I do not use MAC ID filtering on any of them.
Then, I guess, you should follow steelbyte's advice and take it back to your shop to get it repaired. Don't forget to unroot your device prior you claim the warranty.

Hey did you already try to flash a new Radio? You've said you already tried several Roms, so maybe there is something wrong with your Radio!
Otherwise, ask the seller if he happen to have the invoice or just call HTC and tell them about the WiFi problem and that you are very sure it's a hardware fault. Maybe they don't even ask you for the invoice or they just need the IMEI of your device to check the warranty status.
Good luck!

I'm on the latest radio right now, I've tried many others as well.
I think my support would have to go through the carrier that initially sold the device (Telus) and I'm not their customer... sounds difficult.
Just give it a try and call the HTC support. Usually your carrier is doing nothing else than just sending the phone to HTC.

I fixed it. I removed the proxy from my APN settings even though my provider says it's required. That fixed my WIFI and the HSPA still works just fine!
congrats! Strange issue.. removing the proxy from your APN fixed the WiFi issue?! weird.
My Dell Venue Pro will not log onto my secured Wifi Connection. When I type in the password at hit "done" it tells me "your phone couldnt reach the wi-fi network" However, when my network is 'open' (not secured) it connects just fine. I am using an apple air port extreme. I am really confused.
Any ideas?
I doubt you are the only one. I read a comment on Engadget where someone reported a wifi problem as well.
Fear not, you are not alone. My brother has the same issue on his. We both have a Venue Pro, and a WPA secured network. My phone can connect to the network no problem, his will always fail. The only way it will work is on an unsecured connection. Not sure who to contact for support since we're on the bleeding edge here, but I think it'll be sorted shortly and hopefully easily.
Aw come on Dell and Microsoft!
WIFI problem? Unbelievable!

I have the same problem too on 2 Venue Pro's that I have! I tried changing my router encryption settings to WEP, WPA, WPA2, Mixed(does all 3), and none of the settings worked. The only way is with no encryption. And on top of that, there is no way to touch any wi-fi settings other then just selecting the access point and giving it a password I really hope this can be resolved via an update and its not because of a bad phone!

Do you have MAC address filtering enabled perhaps?
frustrated
No I don't have MAC filtering on my wifi network. just the normal WPA/WPA2. My wife's HD7 comes in the mail today and if she doesn't have an issue with it, I may go back to the Microsoft store here in Denver and do any exchange.
I am glad I am not the only one with issues here though. I will try calling Dell or the Microsoft store and see if they can offer any help
From reading various posts on other sites, it seems that it's definitely an issue with the DVP in general - everyone seems to be reporting that it won't connect to an secure network, only an open one. How Dell have managed to drop the ball this badly is beyond me. I've been waiting for this phone since it was announced, but with the lack of info, seeming lack of SD card slot now, and wifi that doesn't work to boot, I'm seriously thinking I'll just go for a different phone!

I'd be very surprised if the HD7 has any issues, got one for my wife at the weekend, and it took all of about a minute to get it up and running on my wireless network with WPA2 (and about 45 seconds of that was disabling mac address filtering to add it, and then re-enabling the filter!!).

Damn, well looks like I am going to the HD7 unless I am offered a fix by Dell/Microsoft. I excused the 8GB memory because I have a larger zune and i hoped someone braver than I would take off some of the screws behind the batter cover and find a SD card slot (like the HD7). But i cant tolerate Wifi problems (cant leave my network unsecured).
Looks like I am heading to the Microsoft store after the UPS man comes with my wifes phone and doing an exchange for the HD7.
It's a real shame. Don't get me wrong, all new phones will haev teething problems, but the initial reports of the Dell really aren't good - a phone like this HAS to be spot on in terms of connectivity, that's the whole point of it. Otherwise they should call it a dumbphone.
yep and I am noticing some cracking in the speaker, like its blown or something. Shame, i really was excited for this phone
Guess they wont be ditching their blackberry's as soon as they thought if their employees cant get on their network.
If some of you do go back to the Microsoft store, please tell me how well your exchange goes. My feeling is that since there are so few Venue Pros out there it might be hard to make an exchange at this time...
I'm hoping that since this phone will get all the support it needs since it's going to be widely adopted by business users.
Hi,
ive had similair issues to this running on android in the past. The way around it for me was using one of these conversion tools like so:
corecoding.com/utilities/wep2hex.php (cant link as the forums wont allow it)
whilst thats for WEP and you said you were using WPA i assume theres a similair conversion tool of some sorts? Not saying its going to work by any means - just that my android phone needed the passphrase converting and entering in HEX in the past so may be worth researching before claiming wifi is totally broke on the dell
Carl.

Thanks for the help, but the fact remains, we (I) shouldn't have to do any of these steps to fix the wifi. It should "just work"
Dell not helpful
I called Dell customer service and they couldnt help my at all. I had to explain to three difference reps what a Venue Pro was
Next step is the Microsoft store. I will update when I done there.........cant go till UPS comes to my house though.
Shame to hear about the lack of Dell support. Maybe they'll know a bit more when they starting selling it themselves.
nope, no mac filtering. it should be pretty clean.

Hopefully it's just a bad batch. Wifi and a crackly speaker would mean a no go for me as well. I really dont want the HD7, though.
I was planning to just use WP7 as a toy and stuff (until it matured more) at home and work with Wifi only. So it's possible I could just buy a Focus for that.
ive seen a few people post on here with this problem but none of the posted solutions are working for me. Im on oreo b12, on verizon. i have tried rooted and unrooted. I have 4g lte data connected no problem, but when the hotspot goes up it is not transmitting data. I do pay for the hotspot which makes this aggravating. i did some searching on here and the xda forums, and i read about changing the APN settings, which i have to no avail in helping this. I read about the "settings put global tether_dun_required 0" and tried that only to get an error "failure calling service settings" (i may be a little off im running from memory right now). when googling that error i read about changing the selinux to permissive, thats where i was over my head and was denied, but i stopped there. does anyone here have an idea of another way for me to try to tackle this? was i doing something wrong? I was rooted when i tried all of this, i reinstalled and went unrooted to see if that would help but it did not. Any help or a guiding light would be appreciated and i know this question has come up a few times before its just not working for me.
I'm still on stock, non rooted Nougat and encrypted and have 2 SIMs, was hotspotting my personal SIM no problem but couldn't hotspot my work SIM which was a real PIA. I ensured the APN was good but that didn't help. After some googling for solutions I used my PC and ADB to alter a setting for it.
Now I can hotspot it perfectly. Can't remember what it was but it was a basic command. At the time I also removed a bunch of system apps I didn't use, mostly Google bloat. Made the phone snappier again too.

Keep your pants on, I never saw the reply here
If I get some googling time I'll have a look, but you guys could do the same...
Do it for all of us Google it for us before you post a incomplete reply. If you are unaware of how to create a link to save others to complete your reply maybe try posting that .
It's like saying I know where the true superior being resides in religious texts "Google It" as educated beings know there isn't one but that doesn't stop people googling it and leading them into a pointless search on truth based on someone's made up fairytale.
My pants are on the way they should be on unlike yours because I use a belt as where you has their bare arse hanging out for others to see.

Have a read of this and you get the idea of what needs doing. You have to be comfortable using ADB.

Another setting to try is:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
I can't check it myself as after Oreo update my phone works with hotspot off either SIM anyway.
