I recently unlocked my G1 to work with the ICE Network here in Costa Rica.
I was actually stuck for like 3 hours thinking about flashing and trying differen methods for the activation because for some reason it wouldn't catch the 2G Data Services (After I Followed alot of APN Settings etc)
When I was about to give up , I saw what seemed like a new icon (which ended up being that it was receiving data)
But I also noticed the R in the signal strenght icon, which I managed to figure out was Roaming.
This has not gone off since I got the phone, I got Donut 1.6 , I got the phone yesterday, It works perfectly, It receives calls, Dials, Msgs fine, everything like my old S.E phone, the internet is even a tad faster, but I'm kinda worried about the Roaming sign being there.
I'm not really worried for any International SMS like it was reported, because the crappy service here doesn't even have that, so It won't happen, and I don't even think Roaming exists here.
Any help to that?

You might want to post your APN settings so others can see if you need to change something.

Out of noobing around, I tried to play with the APN settings, but I went back to the old ones, now my Internet doesn't work..
http://modmyi.com/wiki/index.php/Carrier_APN_Settings#ICE_.28Costa_Rica.29
Thats the only thing I saw. Saw a couple other places that had the same info. If that don't work then maybe someone else can help you thru.
This isn't an APN problem, it is a SIM problem.
Your provider has one set of numbers on your card, and another set of numbers that actually identify the network, and they don't match. Technically, from the phone's point of view, you *are* roaming, even if it is the same provider. From the provider's point of view, you *aren't* roaming.
Up until cupcake, we had that same problem here in Canada when using the "Fido" network (which is owned and operated by "Rogers"). The network identified itself as "Rogers", the SIM cards identify themselves as "Fido", the phone think's its roaming.
So; you don't need to worry about roaming charges when you are actually connected to the correct network.
BUT; You don't have an easy to read display to tell you when you are *really* roaming, nor can you make configurations that are based on whether you are or are not roaming.
Edit: You might be inclined to report it as a bug against AOSP. Even though it technically isn't a bug, the workaround for it needs to be input and that needs to originate as a bug report. http://source.android.com/report-bugs

Thank You very much.
I actually wasn't really worrying a whole lot, because Roaming doesn't exist here in Costa Rica. ( We are expected to barely get 3G this year, and there is a wait list for that for about 200,000 people ).. If your signal goes out, thats it, you got no signal .
thanks for the quick reply, another thing I wanted to ask. I've had the phone since like Sunday, and When I got it it was Version 1.01, So I got 1.5 Cup Cake, and eventually 1.6 Donut without even trying the phone at any point, I'm getting alot of force close msgs, for something regarding android action or something like that, I don't recall the exact msg, but I keep getting it , when going to the home from a application (any) or doing something rly fast, it blacks out, resets the desktop and shows up again, I read somewhere you had to do a factory reset (which bugs me because for some reason mY internet wasn't working until like 5 hours after I unlocked the phone).. Thanks

Yeah, a factory reset might help. Especially when you've done that many updates over a short period of time.
Write down your APN settings on a piece of paper and do the factory reset. It will STILL have 1.6, it will just clear the user data, which after just one day, won't be much anyways. Better to get it cleaned up now rather than wait until you have a big pile of configurations you don't want to lose.
Thanks, Did that, now my G1 Is much faster and won't crash.. Awesome
I am on an older plan and I don't want to switch to a more expensive everything data plan since I only use my data plan for email, so I bought a Hero and changed the esn to match the one on my current phone, a Q9c. The esn switch worked fine and I now have phone/texts on my Hero, but neither 1x nor evdo works now. I get Error 67...something about username and password being incorrect. I have no idea how to fix this. I added the username in the ##3282# menu, but I didn't see anything about a password in there. My HA shared secret is 'secret' like I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be, but I don't know what my AAA shared secret is or is supposed to be. Do i have to find this in the Q9c and transfer it over? I'm completely lost. Anyone have any tips or ideas on how I can get my data working?

Im pretty sure thats why you have not got an answer!
Everyone is going to err on cautious side.
Yeah, the only thing worse then ESN swapping is murder.
I'm not asking how to do an esn swap...just merely explaining all the facets of my problem so someone can help me out. I understand it's a touchy subject, but despite any 'laws' to the contrary I don't feel what I did was wrong. They're both my phones and I'm not stealing service. I think it's ridiculous that Sprint thinks it has the right to tell me which phones I can and can't use on my plan. I wish I had a gsm provider...I don't think this would be as much of a problem.
Anyway, I really don't want this to get off topic. The only thing that should matter is I am getting Error 67 when I try to make a data connection. How do I fix this? Should I call Sprint...will they give me data connection settings? Do I have to find a way to get the AAA shared secret off my old phone? Am I just screwed? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.
I feel your pain. Try going into... Menu > Settings > About Phone > System Updates and Update Profile.
Hope it works.
Thanks for the tip. I tried it and the screen reads "The network is preparing your services. Please wait." Then the Error 67 window pops up a couple times, and after a few minutes the screen reads "The profile update could not be completed. Please try again later. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service. Error code:1012". Thoughts? How does this update work anyway? Does it use the data connection to update?
Had this problem before, spent hours with a Sprint's advanced tech support to try and solve the problem. The problem occured when I switched from one custom rom to another, then I restored a nandroid backup of the previous custom rom on top of it. My Hero starting bugging out after this. They couldn't help solve the problem, but they also didn't know about my flashing spree.
The only way I solved the problem was to RUU to Sprint's official rom. Even after I did this it took about 24hrs to register with Sprint for some reason.
Good luck.
Either RUU or reset to factory default on the phone.
I wouldnt call sprint. Them probably already know somethings not right.
You copied the MEID DEC number off your q9c to the hero.
So what sprint sees is a MEID DEC number of a Q9c
And they also see a MEID HEX of a HTC HERO.
I belive this is how it is, i could be wrong.
I say this because ive been told that the Hexadecimal numbers are specific to a general device (EG>>HERO)
And that a Decimal Numbers are specific to the end user device
So they got a Q9c trying to provision as a HERO

Correct me if I'm wrong but RUU is basically just reflashing the phone with the factory software, no? Assuming so, why would I need to do that? I'm working with a Sprint Hero that hasn't been flashed/rooted so I'm pretty sure it's still running the original software.
Anyway, I'm pretty desperate (and a hard reset doesn't seem to have fixed anything) so I'm willing to try anything if it has a chance of working. Is this the RUU I should use?

That isn't weird at all to ask unless you think you know this person
I had this happen to me the other day. Well, all of my stuff is legit, but Error 67 was poping up on both my phones.
They had me do this:
##3282#
Wait for a second - its slow
enter your MSL(Not sure if you need the old phones or the Hero's MSL)
GO into EDIT mode
Email address should be [email protected] - They had me change mine from FirstLast01 to [email protected]
Click Menu
Tap Comit(I Think, Maybe Restore..I can't remember)
Reboot the phone
Handsfree activation MAY kick off.
Got to Menu>Settings>About Phone> System Updates> Update Profile
Let it spin...
Turn the phone off, pull the batter for about a minute.
reboot the phone.

Hello all! Its 'That Guy' Again
I recently bought a new HTC Vogue because my old one had *crud*crap*Stuff* on the screen. I called into Sprint customer service as always when swapping.
Everything seems to be fine. The phone is working. Texting is a-ok.. Data is a no-go.
This new Vogue ahs not been *modded*Tweaked*Flashed* (yet)
However when I launch an app to activate the provisioning feature, nothing happens. It dials the usual #777 and proceeds with the 'provisioning data services" msg. But after that it just disappears.
I dont not get a reply back or anything. If I try to refresh the browser to loop through it once more it just does the same thing over and over. Provisioning-----Then nothing
After 2 hours with customer service at Sprint we have gone through just about everything we could think of.. Still nothing.. The phone is practically brand new! Is there something im missing here? Maybe a bug in a certain version of the stock rom?
My old vogue provisioned fine previously and after I flashed to Froyo it was pure bliss.. However this phone will not take the data onnection O-o
If there is anything I can do/attempt to do id be forever greatful! And ill gladly donate my old Vogue to anyone who can use the parts.. It looks like super glue or something in a 3cm patch on the touch screen.. It still recognizes touch on ALL parts of the matrix, it just doesnt look pretty. The shell is kinda scuffed but over the phone works perfect =) This was one phone I didnt want to (ORD) to death.. Thanks in advance to anyone who gives insight on the issue!
Are you running on the most recent Vogue stock rom? which is 6.1
Yes =) Im running the Stock 6.1 Pro from from the HTC website

I am not certain of what the Sprint rep asked you to do, but I have a feeling that your issue lies in the EPST programming. You are likely missing username and/or passwords under the Connections section in EPST. Give it a go and let me know what happens. If you need instructions, let me know as well...
I would be glad to take your old Vogue off your hands if you are serious about giving it away.
Sorry for the lateness! I did discover that she(the rep) had seriously messed up the epst settings in the phone, however after recovery still no data. Its almost as if the phone hates it lol. Eitherway in that case its not as useful as it could be. Ill really only bought the second one because it was new and i wanted the screen to be scratchless I dont mind sending you my old Vogue especially since youre already on the east coast lol ill log in again when i get back to the office and we can swap details.
Thanks again for you help!

There really are 3 or four things on EPST that you need to modify to get the device working properly (in most cases anyways): MIN, MDN, Username, Password, and maybe a couple of others to get better performance out of your connection (cycle, priority, etc). If you flash to stock, why don't you try to do *228 to do automatic provisioning?
Let me know when you want me to give you the shipping details for your Vogue. Thanks.
Only thing that pops in to my mind is that maybe you bought the phone off of eBay? Was it a "Sprint" branded phone, or like an Alltel or something that you activated on Sprint? I would imagine flashing the Sprint ROM from the HTC website would handle everything, but just as a shot in the dark, you could try to install the Carrier CAB (http://winbreak.com/winmo/voguegoodies) for Sprint.
NuAngel
@egzthunder1 Go 'head and pm the info m8! Sorry for the delay again im just hardly at this location anymore.
@NuAngel I actually bought the phone new from some rich guy on craigslist. It was flawless and my vogue had the previously mentioned "crap" on the screen.
It is branded Sprint and they activated the phone just fine as far text and phone. They are saying the data is active however no matter what rom/radio i use it wont access the data network. With WinMo it always says provisioning data but it never happens.. the browser goes idle. if i try to access any data apps it tries to provision but never seems to finish the job.. Android rom same deal just no provision of course. And as you know the Stock Sprint rom has also been flashed with no success of accessing data. Everything else works fine and i have the same service with my current vogue which works perfectly everytime.
If the data issue cant be resolved it will always make an awesome test device.. However, while I cant dig up anyone else having the issue, someone is bound to..

PM sent. Thanks a lot!
Whatever is causing this, after reading your explanation, now I am positive is in the EPST programming parameters. Android builds here have APNs for Sprint in there out of the box (no provisioning required). But to connect, it looks at the PST programming (just like WM does). I would try to speak with someone else at Sprint and see if they tell you something else. There aren't too many things that should be modified in there for the internet to work...
It's weird.. I finally got data to work but if i try to call out it just has a busy signal and if i try to call the phone it goes to voice mail.. wtf?

Did you finish the process with QPST after using CDMA? If your getting a fast busy signal like sound, it's more then likely Cricket not having your correct ESN. Do you have an account setup already and have provided them your converted MEID #?
My friend had given me the wrong MIN number.. for some reason data still worked. Changed the MIN and walla.. Find out another thing later that day though.. Google voice acts crazy with cricket on a flashed Droid X. Made it pretty much impossible for someone to call me. Would actually say the number is no longer in service. Tried to deactivate call forwarding from the info in account settings for google voice. it says to dial *740 on your phone and hit call.. Doesn't work. *720 WILL fix the issue though. Something to do with Cricket not doing conditional call forwarding. .

Glad to hear it's working. Actually, funny thing with Cricket and data...as soon as your done with CDMA, you will have data. Let's say you have a data plan already on your phone and you buy another phone you are going to upgrade to. You can still flash your new phone to Cricket and while your old phone might not have voice calls/texts, you can surf the web on both phones still getting perfectly clear 3G where it's available
YEA! I have a friend that i flashed a mogul and a Touch pro to cricket back in the day. He had the mogul activated and was still able to surf the web with the Touch pro. Nice little bonus i guess. lol

There used to be an online tutorial on how to flash a DX to Cricket but the whole forum has been down for a while. Its a lengthy process to flash and as you already know, it takes a long time if you don't know what you are doing 100%. Techs charge up to $90 for this flash for a reason...they know the ins and outs and have a guide that's taken time and patience to make. Like myself. I can flash any Motorola Droid to Cricket in less then 10 minutes. Its taken me hours to get that fast and lots of trail and error.
What part are you having trouble with?

not sure why the other person hasnt answered but I would like some help with the same issue. I can talk and text fine via the PRL change. I can use anything CDMAWS and QPST to edit my phone but after i try using a nvram backup from whiterabbit or whether i try to edit the settings using QPST the phone restarts as normal and u see the data bar going from 1x to 3g and the phone soft resets over and over. ideas? I would like to at least get the net working. from there im sure i could resolve the next issue.

CDMA or QPST should not be causing your phone to reset unless you accidently changed a setting in QPST. Which PRL are you using? Most stable is 49027 for the DX at the moment. Did you have these issues before the flash? Did you buy the phone used and then started the flash process? I hope you didn't get a busted DX

Ahh, that must be why it works! I am on the $55 plan and my 3G speeds are consistent 1.2Ghz when stupid iJunk users aren’t bogging down AT&T's network. When speed is at it's best, it always beats out my girlfriend’s Droid X 3G speed on Verizon, not by much but enough to say so.
Im using 49027. I've narrowed it down to possible glitch. Upon entering the info for the proxy manually it goes into 1x then 3g then reader loop. Ivebeen using a stock backup to revert to prior tweaking so I can keep trying to figure this out if u have a exact method u use im all ears. Or just ideas. Im running out lol
Also one more thing, ive just entered in the proxy information manually via the cell phone and the phone hasnt given me a boot loop like it used to, still the internet isnt working yet so im going to go into QPST and see if just changing the mobile IP setting throws me into the loop again...EDIT: it sends me into a soft restart loop since its on mob+simp f/back again... catlog didnt show anything that i can see sadly. the soft restart forces the log to stop and doesnt show why it did.switched it back to mobile ip only and stopped the reboot cycle but no data at all ugh...

I've already transfered my number to the droidx and it kept sendinme through the boot loop when I would do the autostart.sh that is found on another forum... so now I ned help figuring this out so I can reswitch it to the droid x again. Or just upgrade the plan and I would need to find the right settings for that... thx for the reply btw.

Just flash it in ROM Manager
I've talked to a couple of folks on the V10 token. Some say it has no relevance and one said it might actually harm your phone since it's not even made for the Droid X specifically. I tried it and it didn’t do anything. It came to be that my MNC in my APN was incorrect.
Without doing a full SBF on your phone, there array of issues you might have are to wide to diagnose. You need to start over and not use your backup. If the problem still persists then let us know but I doubt it will if you did the Cricket flash properly.
Have you changed your APN settings as well? I use anycut from the market to edit and save it.

Confirmed brick after 8.1 developer update with CDMA network.
Lumia 822 Verizon
Confirmed no problem if you use GSM/WCDMA.
If you have already bricked your phone, try this:
1.Power down phone by pressing Power button.
2.Press Power button and Volume +/- button at the same time, phone will go to flash mode.
3.Press Camera button for 5 seconds to power off your phone.
4.insert a GSM/WCDMA SIM card in your phone and turn on phone.
It seems that 8.1 not compatible with CDMA SIM card.

the problem with me no wifi
no mobile data
That is so far from something you could call a "brick" it's not funny. "Brick" means un-recoverable. If you can "un-brick" something without diassembling it or at least using hardware a normal user couldn't have access to, it's not a brick!
Also, has anybody else actually had this problem? A few people seem to indicate that they have *not*...
No problems what-so-ever updating and running on my Odyssey...other than taking forever to download and install.
Working fine in my Lumia Icon from Verizon.
No cellular data after hard reset
I by no means have a brick, but I do now have an issue. Here’s what happened.
I have a Sprint ATIV S Neo, GDR3, Interop-unlock, the whole deal.
Installed the 8.1 update yesterday, and everything was working. I have been playing with all kinds of “stuff” in the registry and such, so I decided that since I had just installed 8.1 I would start fresh and do a hard reset. I don’t really care about keeping interop-unlock at this point. Even with it, so much is still locked down. I’m sure in the future someone will get this cracked and we can really have fun, but until then, just being developer unlocked is good enough.
So, when I got home I reset the phone (power+volume down, exclamation point, then the remaining sequence).
Phone boots back up, and I connect to my WiFi and set everything back up. I think life is wonderful at this point. Then decide to test my 4G download speed so I turn off wifi.
Oops, no cellular data, phone calls and text are fine (didn’t try mms, but probably doesn’t work, blank url in the provisioning). Tried all the usual tricks (##72786# and such). I have my msl, so I go into the provisioning, and things look messed up. My MDN and MSID are 000003872. That makes no sense, so I set them back to the correct values and still no go.
Called Sprint. They ran me through all the usual things that I had already done (hour on the phone with them).
Long story short: The activation program seems to be missing from my phone. Hands free activation never tries to start, in fact, after hard resetting again and watching closely, during setup it says “Activate your device can’t be opened”. And the network settings are missing from the settings menu.
So after work I’m going to take it to Sprint and hopefully they have a factory image they can flash (hopefully an older version so I can update things myself).
My thinking is that the 8.1 update is basically the new rom, but during install doesn't delete the existing carrier programs. When I hard reset, all that got re-installed was the strictly Microsoft stuff, not the carrier specific items i.e. hands free activation.
PS Sorry about the novel...

HTC confirmed this yesterday, they awared the problem and contacting with MS. Announcement by HTC China
The problem covered both HTC 8s(A620D) and 8x(C620d)
8X/8S have similar but more serious problem with gdr1 - gdr2 upgrade last year, even can't boot into SPL.
By the way, to normal users, if their phone turn into black screen and can't boot, it's a brick. No one will care about if it's a real brick, what they know is: I can't use my phone, it's not working, just like a brick.

No need to apologize for the novel! I did the SAME exact thing as you (except I hard resetted via settings > about > more info > reset your phone). Luckily I know my MSL, and have my MSID handy. I wiped my settings by doing ##72786# and selecting ok twice. I rebooted my phone manually and then went to the 'activate my device' app in settings. It did what looked like a profile update and it said my phone was successfully activated with my phone number listed.
I can browse the web on Sprint's network, make/receive calls and send/receive texts. The only thing I can't figure out to fix is MMS. I can't get or send picture mail, group texts or any kind of MMS at all.
I've managed to get my coworkers settings from his ATIV S Neo but I can't figure out how to edit them on my phone. Going into ##3282# doesn't let me edit things that deeply.
From what I've heard on other forums is that we're basically SOL unless Sprint releases their firmware updates and their release of 8.1 soon (which they have confirmed they will do this summer).
I figured from the get go when this started yesterday that this 8.1 release doesn't seem to properly support CDMA and judging by how many people have this issue, I was correct. Microsoft really needs to work better on the CDMA side of things.

I saw your reply to my thread for the same issue. I did some research on WP Central and found another thread where someone was having the same issue with an Ativ S and the solution was to manually enter the APN information. I don't know what the APN info is for Sprint, but when I checked it on my phone it was blank. It seems like a safe bet that updating that info would fix the issue.

Would you be willing to post the settings? I am guessing that the issue may be partially related to APN settings being missing under Settings, Cellular+SIM, SIM settings. I read a post by someone on another forum who had the same data issues but fixed them by entering the APN information for his carrier. I've tried a couple of different APN settings that I've found out on the web for Sprint, but I'm not sure they are accurate. All I know is that they were missing when I checked them on my phone.
i have fixed my issue with some internet research.
adding manually the APN of the provider in the APN settings solved the issue for me.
hope i helped.

I would not mind at all! I went into ##3282# on his phone, selected 'view' then 'others' then 'MMSC URL' . The two pictures are attached, the order of the settings begins with the picture that says '[email protected]'. The second pic is literally a continuation as it starts right where the first picture ends (I scrolled neatly!)
I've been trying to find the correct Sprint APN settings around the web, and a lot of sites have similar settings as options but either Windows Phone doesn't have enough fields for the settings, and the fact that in the APN settings on 8.1, it doesn't let me change the authentication type.
I noted on my coworker's ATIV S Neo that in his 'cellular+SIM' section, he doesn't have options to input APN like I do... the hard reset must've kicked the CDMA stuff in our phones to the curb.

Ahhhh, Vodafone... I assumed you were a Sprint brethren... I appreciate your post nonetheless! Thank you, sir. Now to continue the hunt for correct Sprint settings -_-
Just got back from two Sprint stores and a Best Buy with Samsung reps on hand. None of them had access to any means of reflashing to stock, and really had no useful information. I was surprised by how little they knew about any Windows phones.
I do have TEP though, and they ordered me a new phone. I should have it in a few days. Costing me nothing
Wish I had something useful to tell you folks...

I actually work for a Sprint store (non service/repair location) and I don't have TEP. I actually DO have an upgrade available since I bought the ATIV S Neo off-contract. I wouldn't mind using my upgrade on another ATIV S Neo... and whatever Windows Phones Sprint gets in the future, I'll have to buy off contract (which is nothing new to me lol).
I could technically add TEP to my line and wait a few days then do an advanced exchange at a local repair center but I'll most likely get a refurb as most of them are. I'd rather a brand new device
So I'm currently debating using my upgrade...

Did you mention the update to 8.1 or did you just play dumb? I am thinking I am going to have to do the same thing as you but I don't want to walk in there and tell them that I did the update and have them tell me I'm SOL.

I was completely honest, gave them the whole story from start to finish. Even pointed out some of the cool features of 8.1
If this was the new Galaxy they might have given me a hard time, who knows.
