hello all.
just bought a new galaxy tab for the price of $750 here in Baghdad today. it was brought over from UAE and has full Arabic and the best android 2.2 system.
i am extremely happy to have it however the happiness stops to when the spec of dust appeared to my eyes. right under the sticker that comes on the screen appeared a white dot to the very right of the screen. however when i use the unit the although not apparent it looks like a dead pixel rather than a spec of dust because it looks to mix colors. (i would take a picture later and attach it to this post) -- the area i am talking about can be shown here. its on the very top right hand corner of the center image in step 18; http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-Teardown/4103/3
i am considering tearing the unit apart and blowing some air under the screen this is if the item is dust.. is it easy? i am looking over some videos to take it apart. -- according to the steps from the link above step 18 requires a heat gun and that i am not too good with.
OR
shall i just ignore it?
Any experiences with things like this?
thanks!
[wow a 104 views as of this edit and no replies? hmm]
there was an article that showed the teardown of a tab. They said it took an extream amount of heat to seperate the glass from the screen.
I would send it back to Samsung for replacement or try and ignor it.

+1 for sending it back to Samsung, a device this expensive shouldn't come with any dead pixels! If you open it to try and fix it yourself you'll invalidate your warranty and then will really be stuck with it!!

thanks for the response guys.
that option really isnt valid here where i am. i tried with the shop i bought it from but now i am deciding to just put up with it. oh well.
perhaps those dead / stuck pixel fixers or something...
Try this Pixel Fixer program. I had two stuck pixels on my DroidX when I got it. This fixed it.

Don't give up after one try. It took several attempts over a number of days using Pixel fixer to clear up my stuck pixels.
Hi guys,
I have a galaxy S4 I9500 version and I have observed a problem with it. I was sharing media with my friend's Xperia Z via NFC, while doing that, my phones' screen started flickering highlighting clock at the top portion.
Later I turned off both mobiles' NFC and taken both mobiles close and guess what my phones' screen flickered again.
I checked it with my old Galaxy S I9000 which doesn't even has NFC, again S4s' screen flickered.
Then I went to service center to show this issue, as they were not having any other S4 there to crosscheck problem, they asked me to visit a Samsung mobile shop. There I checked it with three S4s' which were on display and I found that problem was there with each and every S4.
So guys can you check your phones' for this issue and will it cause any problem to phone as the time passes??
similar type of problem

But I think it could turn into an issue because earlier my phones' screen was flickering and waking up automatically highlighting clock just like shown in that video.
I submitted my phone to them and they have replaced display with new one. Now it is not flickering automatically but it does while holding devices side by side as that sensor gets triggered by any magnet. So there is a possibility that the sensor could get permanently affected by a strong magnetic field and triggers the screen to wake up automatically.

They replaced display with new one and now the problem is sorted out.
Yesterday I tried something with my s4..
I disabled samsung link, clock digital(both of em), watch on, and dropbox.
The problem of flickering and clock appearing on top was GONE!! until......
I turned on the data network and found it coming back again...
I figured that it happened to me since i updated it to UBMG1 Indian firmware from BMEA
So i am now rolling back to the latter and sammobile here i come
Even i have also tried a lot of things... but problem was still there.... i think it messes with hardware and there is only one solution and tht is to replace the display with new one... if you find sonething to sortout this issue without replacing any hardware part...pls post it here....

Does any one got this solved.. as said by one member, even in chennai - tamilnadu, they are not clear on what the issue i am explaining to them, they just changed the motherboard. but no use still.
"S-view mode activates itself, dono why... it happened for me in a month old S4, i got my motherboard replaced, but still the issue is persisting. but the frequency became less. thats it. other than that no use.
as mentioned by one of the member, it is annoying as it happens any time u work with your phone. in any screen suddenly "

I got my screen replaced but in vain.. I think using the S view cover will help because the flickering is caused by s view initiation (black screen with clock) which is initiated by a magnetic sensor..
Buy unfortunately the s- view cover is costly and so I cannot buy it at the moment .
A possible solution is to turn the s-view service off to stop the flickering issue..
If any developer on the site could help us out..

- Actually am using the S-View Cover. But with no use, when its out of S-View cover it behaves erratic by switching to S-View display automatically.
-Yes you are right it can be a software problem ,but take my words, i used a S4 which i bought on launch date in India, i used it for 3 months, then i gave it to my cousin, and bought another new one - this is the one which is showing up this S-View Issue,
the old one which i had was a GEM, not even once i had this problem of S-View with it, both where of same SW revision level, hence there is something to do with the hardware.
am just waiting for the October 4.3 update, if this is not solved in that SW by any means, then am gonna **** on every Samsung technician in the service center, they don't even know the difference between Hall sensor and proximity sensor!!!! , for making them understand the problem in our phone itself is painstaking..
in between is there any change to bring this issue to Samsung's eye.!?

True the service center's technicians
Don't know anything...
If you report that the s-view cover also gives the same result instead showing the s- view when it is supposed then I won't buy it because I only wanted to buy it currently just to fix the issue..
Also just waiting for the android 4.3 update..

That's not a issue. It's s-view feature in phone. If your phone get close to any magnet/magnetic source then it will activate s-view screen.
A lot of devices like iPad and Nexus 7 have a small magnet in them to provide support for cover/accessories. If your S4 get close enough to that magnet on other device it will activate s-view screen.
I dont know exactly if your other phone that you are trying NFC with, has a magnet. but there should be.

I know that it is a feature but it comes just in between typing process or running through the temple (temple run) and it disturbs a lot so I thought of using the s- view cover so it will restrict the feature to only when needed out initiated by closing the cover instead of coming every time in between activity..

Not always, see i am just holding my phone in hand, or it is laid on a wooden desk, even then this flickering into S-View mode happens.

Hello!
I bought the Galaxy S4 about two months ago and since then, I always used it with a screen protector and a case. But today, I found that many purple and black spots and smears have formed on the AMOLED. I have never dropped the phone or exposed it to heat. I tried rebooting and activated the LCD test mode, but none of them helped. Is it a hardware issue?
Can anybody tell me what's going on and help me?
Best regards,

Definitely hardware. Looks like the AMOLED itself. If you have warranty, I suggest you use it, because that's hardware, not software.
Hm, thanks for the help, although that certainly isn't good news... I will try to contact Amazon, let's hope they can help me with this problem.
As there is a large concentration of purple in the corner, I'd suggest that Samsung will try and tell you its been dropped and in that case, I don't think they will cover it under warranty.
I wish you luck!

Odd indeed ... usually when a screen is damaged or faulty bars appear pixel burned altered colors and stuff ... if i saw that and didn't know i d tell u that u definetely someone spilled ink on the screen ... those marks are exactly like it ... hopefully they ll repair it ...
I think samsung should change it under warranty because clearly, screen is not broken and still degraded. So it's bad display.
But they might say it's caused by water damage which is not covered under warranty.
Let's hope for the best.
They do have a way to tell if it's water damage, there is a sticker which turns blue when wet, so if there is no damage to the case, they should change it fine... I have had good luck with Amazon regarding returning faulty items...

Thank you guys for all the support, I sent it back to Amazon and today I got the mail that they have got the package. Now someone's going to look if this is covered by standard warranty... Let's hope for the best indeed!
Hope they change it for you. As for sure seems the amoled has burned

Wow. I didn't notice until today but the status bar icons and time are showing signs of screen burn-in. I didn't even know this was possible with LCD screens. I can clearly see them with a dark blue full screen wallpaper. This is absolutely horrible.
Check yours too, people!

Not many believe so, but there's no problem getting burn-in on LCD. It's harder than OLED of course. Just look at the commercial LCD screens all over town and you'll see a lot of burn-in's...
The thing im baffeled over is that you managed to get burn-in on your phone. That means you have your screen on A LOT...

Yeah, it's been ten hours guys. My phone's screen has been off for 9.5+ hours during this whole time. I can still see it.
It's also easy to spot when I pull the notification shade down. That's just... Horrible. I bought mine online so sending it for a replacement is out of the question. I can't live without a smartphone for a couple of weeks (minimum time with such grievances).

AFAIK lcd's don't truly get burn in but they persistence which should eventually fade. I'd imagine a defective screen is something acompletely different though.
It's usually ghosting on LCD. It should be reversible. Maybe play some movies or something.
This is kind of concerning and sad to hear. I traded my Nexus 6 for a G4 because I didn't want to deal with burn-in anymore (Moto X 2013 user). I hope I don't ever run into that problem or that the warranty covers it.
Same problem here... I just bought my G4 3 months ago...
i had sadly the same problem and made a tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/help/screenburn-t3152109/post63428991#post63428991
Solved just by sending it back 2 my provider
(i had the device for 2 a 3 weeks) so i got i new one
Got to say, I've had my G4 since May 2015 and have no screen problems.
Just picked up a used LG G4 off Craigslist yesterday, guy had it for a month and was proven from Sprint themselves. Have been noticing screen burn or whatever you want to call it. Can notice it when you pull the notification panel down, and you can see a red tint.
This sucks lol! I'm trying to screen-burn tool off the playstore and will try it for the full 8 hours it says tonight and report back.
Bought my G4 June 05 of 2015. Keep the brightness at a steady 80%. No sign of burn in at all.
It bootlooped to Hell but no burn in.
SAME HERE!!!
It is possible with LCD though , I have SOny Xperia z2 before , but it never have such issue , so when i got my g4 and got this issue at first i thought it was a defective unit. So , i replace a panel under warranty , but then the problem appears again then i realized its the quality of the panel lg used. Lg need to fixed their panel really seriously as it happened since G3 .Now with the LG G5 having the always-on features i believe that the problem would be more serious as with 30 minutes non-stop screen on time with current G4 already appeared such issue, imagine always-on for G5.......
If you turn the phone off can you still see anything? If so it's definitely burn in or something like it. This is news to me, I thought LCDs were immune.
I got sensitive touchscreen problem, ghost touches, burn-in and now bootloop. Now to sent it repair, buy a new smartphone to wait it come back, get it back, see it's still not totally fixed, send it back again. This phone is **** ?
Wondering if anyone else has run into this issue. The other day I noticed that in apps with a white background color, I would have horizontal pink lines on the screen, sometimes vertical, too. It drove me crazy enough that I went to the Samsung service center close to where I live, and the guy flat out just told me that the screen needed to be replaced. I didn't leave the phone with them because I kind of need it, but I will have to eventually.
Weird thing is that there are no dead pixels - all the pixels are fine and went through the pixel test with no issues.
Anyone else experiencing this? Pretty frustrating since I got the phone less than 2 months ago.

Hey I think I might be having a similar problem, it started to happen yesterday and about a third of my phone is now constantly turning pink. If your problem is like the one below then let me know and I'll keep you informed in what Samsung say when I contact them later today
Just realised I can't post links yet but the images are here imgur(dot)com/a/YBA5o
Same thing started happening to me a few hours ago.
Definitely a hardware fault.
Mine was purple smudges and washed out, sent out they replaced the phone, its a hardware/factory defect.
Yeah definitely a hardware problem. I took a screenshot of the pink and sent it to my computer so I could view it there, and the screenshot was absolutely fine and pink free on my computer, so yeah, hardware problem like the people at Samsung said.
Just sucks that I can't get a replacement unit because I am over the 30 day period. That is just bull**** if you ask me. The phone is still brand new and doesn't even have a hairline scratch on it.
Sorry to necro this thread but the same thing happened to me again, after the screen was replaced the first time. Now it's gone in for a second time. I think this is a pretty well known issue with certain S7 Edge productions. Really even scared of the Note 7 now because I believe it's happening because of the edge panel.
2nd phone with the same issue, 1st time they replaced the phone for brand new, now the same problem... it happens only on s7 edge duo?
Past 31st I bought the S7edge black pearl version. When the Samsung sales executive unboxed and switch on those pink lines were displaying. I was shocked to see those. Immediately they asked me to wait and replaced a new one. I waited for an hour there and browsed my phone completely so that there will no major disappointment.
Just shared this incident on seeing this thread.
