Small Plastic Piece Wedged Under Screen - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I just received a new Sprint Galaxy S7 Edge in the mail a few days ago. As I was applying a new screen cover, I noticed a very small green piece (what I assumed was plastic) sticking out from the edge of the phone (though not by much, it didn't even make it passed the silver metallic looking frame). It bothered me quite a bit (maybe more than it should), but I was also concerned that maybe this piece went in deeper than I could see, and compromised the water resistance (glue seal). So, I grabbed a small razor blade and, without actually sticking it into the edge of the phone, just tried to move the plastic piece. After a little bit of moving, I got it to actually come out. It was a green triangular plastic piece pictured in the attached image.
So what could this piece be from? Should I be concerned? Should I return the phone and wait however many days for another and be out the $10 spent on a screen protector?
Any input would be appreciated.
Edit:
I've attached an image showing where exactly the piece was lodged.

Was it under the actual screen or the screen protector?

I've updated the original post with an image showing where exactly the piece was lodged. It was between the screen itself and the metal/plastic piece outlining the phone.

If you have had the phone long Idk if there is much you can do because I don't think it would have come from Samsung like that. It may have been in your pocket and it just ended up happening. Sorry if I was no help.

I've had it for 3 days and only just opened it yesterday, so it has received one day of use, and I noticed this soon after opening the box and applying the screen cover.

Take it to a Samsung center (usually inside of a best buy) and talk to them. If it was a Samsung made problem then you should be able to get your phone replaced or repaired under your warranty if your water seal is broken.

Put it in water and see if the seal is broken, do it now before the return period ends. If it takes in water, return it, If not I would not be to concerned.

While it has IP68 rating, they don't guarantee that it's waterproof, so IIRC, they don't actually cover the phone for water damage. So if the seal is in fact compromised, I'd be screwed.

Then return the phone and get it exchanged.

Wrong screen protector and it's on upside down.
of course its upsidedown? better some old screen protector than non.
Any one tips on touching up the plastic chrome edging.
Ouch. Looks like you have the wrong sized screen protector on - it looks the same as mine. Came with my Case-Mate, not sure why they provided the wrong protector. Maybe they hadn't produced the right ones yet and and thought the wrong size was better than nothing.
That my worst fear ..ouch
Too bad the didn't get rid of the crome and go all black like on the nexus s
I did this to my vibrant...did u get at store? If so just swap it. Make something up like randomly rebooting

get a black (not translucent) silicone case, and you are all set.
I did the same thing like second week I had my AT&T Captivate, did not bother me much. No phone is gonna stay scar-free forever
i just want to say:
O dear think its time to use my case

well if you want guys who have lots of paints, and who might be able to cover it, then try looking for one of them game workshop places, they have loads of paints in there and other stuff, I dropped a hd cam year ago and I passed by one of these shops and guy in there found a paint to cover it perfect.....just a thought
pray that the phone starts making awful noises and constantly reboots itself.
Then you have a reason to take it to Samsung repair centre.
The warranty i believe is 2years.
I ordered my cases from 2 ebay Us sellers and still haven't received them. Sad my phone from OK arrived first.

Nexus 4 Back glass shattered, won't power on.

Hey All,
The other night my phone back glass panel shattered while inside my pocket. I'm not sure when/how it happened. Now, I have a solid red light when charging and the phone will not turn on. I've tried various combinations of holding power + volume down, but to no avail.
I've got a ton of pictures and some saved games data I'm trying to get off the phone. Is there any way to do this?
Also, I called google and they are sending me a new one, but I didn't mention the broken glass. Do you think this will be an issue? I've also had it rooted for about 1 month now.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You will need to open the back cover and unscrew the two screw pins that are holding the battery. Flip the plate over and put it back in and screw them back together. You will need a T5 torque screwdriver and small philip screwdriver. The phone should power on now.

I don't see any reason why they shouldn't charge you for the second phone: the screen on the first shattered - mechanical damage, it has been opened - this is not allowed. All these will leave you without warranty.

Oh I did. The lady said broken glass voided the warranty. So I hung up and called back and just didn't mention it.
I don't get it, whats the warranty good for if shattered glass voids the warranty?...
the whole phone is practically a glass statue.

Exactly. The glass breaking randomly should be covered by the warranty, since it's the damn problem. They even updated the design to include nubs on the bottom of newer models to prevent the glass from touching any surfaces 100% flat.
I had to order some plastic tools to open the case. They should come tomorrow. The new phone hasn't came either, ordered Friday night.

it may be a manufacturers defect, but the fact the device is going to be tampered with, and opened up; at least from a business standpoint, they shouldnt have to replace it. i hope it all works out for you, but on their end, giving you the refund/replacement would be questionable business practice. they lose money from it but gain customer satisfaction... tough call lol.
Update:
My pry tools came into today and I was able to remove the back. I then removed 1 battery screw and I cannot remove the second one. It is so ridiculously tight that it started to strip the screw. I switched to a flat head that fit exactly and the screw bent the flat head. (cheap metal i guess)
So my plan now is to go to the hardware store and get a brand name 1.0 precision flat head which will hopefully work. If that doesn't work I think I have a small enough drill head to drill the screw out.
One problem after another... this phone is really pissing me off.

Dust under glass.

After a couple of hours on my pocket i noticed that there is a lot of dust under the glass just on the top of home button. No way to clean it. It´s sucks, phone which is supposedly IP68 water and dust resistant in two hours looks like my old note 4. Can´t take photos for now.
Any of you guys with black phone also noticed that? I can live with but it drive me crazy.
Cheers.
You sure it's under the glass and not just stuck to the top? It's strange that dust could get through. If so, I would contact the retailer and get it exchanged as it sounds like a defective handset.

Yes, black version.
I went to Samsung customer service. They told they dont see nothing strange (of course). They offered to send it to Samsung official service on Madrid (Spain) to check if there is some kind of physical damage and let them decide what to do.
So probably i will do that on monday. other 2 weeks without my phone.
Someone else with this problem? I just want know if its a problem or something normal.
Cheers.

I suppose it wasn't actually under the glass. It was at the side of the home button.
The issue in the photo looks more like light from the screen to me.

From my personal experience and "investigation" I was able to remove most of the dust with a very thin sheet of paper and lots of patience. I put the paper between the glass and the frame and pushed the dust out. It took a long time though.
As for the investigation part it appears that the black coating doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the glass which means there's a very narrow part of the glass where the dust can get stuck and stay visible.
It's a near perfect phone with 2 very annoying downsides, fingerprints and dust getting stuck around the glass frame, at least with the black version.
I have this same issue. Driving me crazy...
If these phones are supposed to be water resistant, have you tried to stick it under a tap to see if it washes out?

No... wouldn't that ruin it cause it water resistant but I don't think under any pressure though..
I have that issue around the speaker grill mesh

It's annoying as hell but I guess I live with it unless it makes it way to the camera or the proximity sensor
Sounds like a defect.
Dust under the screen means that your phone is not water proof.
Id go back to the store and get another one.
I had this with a gaminng system. Took it back and got another one.
It does not mean it's not water proof it just means it's not sealed around the edge, it's sealed further in as there's a small crevice

Panel Gap Between Screen and Body Bottom Right

Just got my S8 today and was looking it over before I got it setup.
Here is what it looks like: http://imgur.com/a/C6m1j
For reference here is the bottom left: http://imgur.com/a/XZd1s
Do others have this gap my old phone is a nexus 6P and on that same corner the screen got a bit loose over time and I dont want the same issue with this phone also worried about that gap effecting the water resistance of the phone. Am I nitpicking or should I return it?
On my S8+, the right side of the screen has a much larger gap than on the left side. I can even get with my fingernail between in. Tomorrow my phone will be send in and they will decide whether or not it's a manufacturing failure.
I don't pay 900 bucks for a phone which isn't 100% fine. And I don't know how such a gap influences the IP68...

All phones will have some tolerances (gaps). These are even mentioned in manuals.
I have the same issue. I returned it to the store but unfortunately Samsung don't wanna recognize the issue and insisted that I broke my phone. I also read comments from other sites claiming that Samsung will tell you all possible excuses just to avoid replacing a unit.
I'll just take back the unit since I can only insert a few millimeters of very thin paper in it so I'm assuming that the unit is still fully sealed. It's just that maybe they don't fitted/assembled the screen properly.

Nope. The adhesive strip is very wide.
It is normal.
Mine also have a small gap on the top of the phone, but not too big, only paper can slip in.
Last week I go to Samsung service center, they perform a test to mark sure my phone is fully sealed. And no problem has been found, so they didn't replace it for me.
If the water won't go into my phone through the gap, it is still OK for me...

water might not get in but dirt will still accumulate in these gaps. I have all along the top and bottom right on mine and dirty is clearly getting stuck in that gap, easily visible just looking at the phone head-on.

My gap not really big, but sometimes hair will stuck in it too.

I had exactly the same issue. After a while in the sun, the bottom right edge came loose. I went to a service center and they replaced:
* the screen
* the entire frame on the side
* the battery (?!).
It was under warranty so cost me nothing except waiting time (took around two hours).
The whole phone looks and feels better now, especially the bottom part is nom much better aligned. Apparently this is a known issue, they recognised it immediately and had everything to fix it. Someone in the shop said 3% of the S8's had this issue.
So definately bring it in for repair. Probably they should better give a whole new phone, but ok, it's fixed.

Poor build quality!

Is there any way to hide or rid off this?
After using this my father 10-11months.
Shame Samsung for providing this kind of poor quality on such a premium price phone.

Last pic was Clear view case
Until we know exactly how the phone was handled, I can't say build quality was poor. That looks to me like fluid ingress. The phone may have been dropped with a small space opening allowing water or sweat droplets in. I keep my phone in my pocket with nothing but a slimarmor case on.

Hi,
It does seem like the phone did have a fateful encounter with water or some other liquid and some of it got inside the phone or at least damaged it. You can't solve it, since it seems to be permanently aesthetically damaged, however you can get yourself a skin (like DBrand ones) and cover it up with this sticker. Also I'd like to reinforce that Samsung Cases aren't water resistant, at least all that I've seen have this written somewhere.
All the best,

I see an circular edge of something over the LED and sensors (led should be flush with the face of the phone.
The crap may be under this wrap and needs to be pulled off.
