Rooted G935F ... Best way to backup apps and update to G935FXXS1BPJ1 ? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello All,
I recently rooted my G935F and am on G935FXXU1BPH6. Everything setup and running smoothly. Got a notification that G935FXXS1BPJ1 is available.
What is the best way to backup my apps and settings, install 1BPJ1, and then re-root and restore my apps? Apologies if I missed a guide on this.
Thanks,
diznanl

If you install official OTA update with a rooted phone. you might end up with soft bricked phone.

But you now can backup your all data & system settings via Titanium Backup app as you're rooted.

TWRP: backup impossible
sorry to inform you, but since g935f encrypts data, TWRP can't mount the data partition and the backup doesn't work. apparently there is a workaround which involves formatting the phone, but I will wait for a more elegant solution

Titanium Backup is by far the best app to use for backing up your phone.

[Q] Is it SAFE for OTA?

Other said that if you root your G2 and used the original stock rom and recovery, you can have an OTA with no Problem, is that TRUE?
how about you ROOT your G2, and you used stock rom and recovery but you installed Xposed to change your notification bar, can you still receive OTA update without a problem?

I certainly wouldn't. I'm new to lg but I know on previous devices that was guaranteed to screw you up.

Not totally true. U need stock ROM with no uninstalled bloat and stock recovery. I'm not sure with exposed but I would suggest uninstalling exposed framework just to be safe.

I was running a stock rom and I went to install the OTA now I can't do anything. I have tried factory reset. I have tried restoring all the backups I have on have on TWRP and it says that the restore is successful but when I reboot it goes right back to the recovery mode. I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions please?????
search, thats what you can do.
when root only, no problem if you temporarily via superuser settings disable root. Ota update and reroot. I think.
Now I have a question for you, do you know a good joke?
tip: when doing anything custom, use the search to determine if it can do harm, or inhibits updating. Then you will always be safe.

Yes totally true.. As long as you have stock recovery and ROM you are and always will be good... The only way I can imagine a "debloaded" system wouldn't take it is if you "deblote" the stock recovery in any way lol

You can go to the phone settings > general > about device > software update and click on Update. It will tell you that your phone has been modified and will basically tell you to F.O. So to answer your question - no you can't use OTA any longer.

you can set your status from modified to official using wanam xposed so you can ota,
but you will loose your root and got updated bootloader when you do ota.
Probably, but I wouldn't update to 4.4.2 anyways, or not yet at least as it's riddled with too many bugs.

There was a topic about How to keep root and get OTA update. It is here.
Steps:
1. Open SuperSU settings, scroll down to the bottom, Enable Pro
2. Check Survival mode
3. Uncheck Enable Superuser
4. Install OTA update
5. After reboot, Enable Superuser
6. Disable Survival mode
Done
Be noted that you have to purchase Superuser Pro for this to work, and you have to reboot after upgrading to Pro.
Also if you have modified your ROM e.g deleted system apps or Verizon crap this method will fail unless you restore them.
Ok. I tried the OTA too, some time ago and after downloading it failed to install. My N3 is rooted and I thought I'd try anyway. But did anyone try to use kies? Some time ago I connected to kies and it told me that my phone wouldn't be supported. I think I installed another region. Yesterday I tried and it told me there was a new firmware although it's not 4.4.2 yet. So it would be interesting to know if it would install after download.
Some other thing: I have something like a mnt folder and one or two other folders like mnt_1. Just like if you update windows and don't do a clean install. How can I do a clean install on my phone once kitkat is released for DBT region?

Twrp recovery is a way for us to flash stuff into the system or even whole new systems.
If you find and install that on your phone you can then flash SuperSU. I'm sorry I don't have this device yet so I cannot help you more. But I have done similar with two other Samsung phones.

As I understood, TWRP is a root-required application so I guess it would be totally useless to have it while my phone it's sel not rooted.
Wrong.... twrp doesnt require root. Youre flashing it in odin.

Im pretty sure he said. Flash twrp recovery with odin. Theres like some sort of file you flash with odin to get twrp, not with the apk.
Twrp is a recovery.
Samsung uses a pc recovery software called Odin. It is capable of flashing any part of an unlocked device including a recovery partition.
Since the tab 4 did not have a locked boot loader we can flash twrp without root. Once twrp is installed with Odin on the PC you can simply flash su into the device using twrp

For that matter you can "flash" SuperSU with Odin if someone (traditionally chainfire) creates an Odin flashable bin.

IMEI Corrupted Galaxy S5 g900f

Hello everyone,
I am trying to fix my not registered on network problem on my galaxy S5 G900F
Until now I tried flashing various versions of stock ROMs, but none of them worked. I mean I was able to flash them properly, but it didn't fix "not registered on network". So I am thinking that my efs folder is corrupted. I rooted the device and installed a custom ROM: xXx_NoLimits_4.3_G900FXXU1CPE9, Kernel version 3.4.0-7182592 [email protected] #1, Baseband version is G900FXXU1CPCH.
After that I tried EFS Pro software, but I am not sure what am I supposed to do there. Any pointing to the right direction will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
if you are using twrp recovery and have done a backup of a rom then you can see if you have done a backup of the efs folder and flash it again
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA-Developers mobile app
I just got the phone with corrupted efs, so I have no backup with a good efs. Any other ideas?
If you purchased the device with a corrupt imei then the only option is to return it to the seller to get them to sort it out. If you don't have a backup, then giving advice on how to 'rebuild' it is not going to be given as this same advice can be used to modify or change an imei number which is illegal in most countries....
Sorry fella but that's the way it is....

There are two XDA accepted ways to fix this.
1. A successful restore of a backed up EFS. (backing that up on a samsung device should be common sense by now. This has been happening for years with them)
2. Send it back to the OEM for repair. (most times they charge you for another board)
Due to the different laws around the world concerning the IEMI of a device and who can legally mess with it. This is XDA stance on the matter.
Now no further talks about how to edit the imei in anyway shape or form. Even if it is to put the correct one back.

People are saying that on this new beta, they updated knox stuff.. So.. Can hard brick your phone and root isn't working properly.. Fc apps and stuff.. So.. Stay away from this beta if u want root.. Can screw you up. Wait for devs to solve this.
