I've been looking around for ways to root it as I received the same message from towelroot saying my phone is not supported. Anyone know how to fix this or if there is even a root available for my samsung galaxy tab 4, version 4.4.2?

Still doesn't answer me :/

Yeah still doesn't really help me either.. Is there no root available or something yet?

Twrp recovery is a way for us to flash stuff into the system or even whole new systems.
If you find and install that on your phone you can then flash SuperSU. I'm sorry I don't have this device yet so I cannot help you more. But I have done similar with two other Samsung phones.

As I understood, TWRP is a root-required application so I guess it would be totally useless to have it while my phone it's sel not rooted.

Wrong.... twrp doesnt require root. Youre flashing it in odin.

Im pretty sure he said. Flash twrp recovery with odin. Theres like some sort of file you flash with odin to get twrp, not with the apk.

Twrp is a recovery.
Samsung uses a pc recovery software called Odin. It is capable of flashing any part of an unlocked device including a recovery partition.
Since the tab 4 did not have a locked boot loader we can flash twrp without root. Once twrp is installed with Odin on the PC you can simply flash su into the device using twrp

For that matter you can "flash" SuperSU with Odin if someone (traditionally chainfire) creates an Odin flashable bin.

If that would work, I think I would try it however, I don't have any experience with this, Could you guide me or send me any guide about it ?

I would be the wrong person to help.
I have not yet received our tab 4 in the mail. I am speaking from experience from other Samsung devices.
I would recommend trying YouTube.

So, I've searched about this but I can't manage to find odin to fit in with my tablet (Specially my model number), So I can't really try it hoping nothing to happen specially with the warnings about not to use other files.

Hi sorry for a late response. But it seems theres a test recovery. I dont own the device and cannot gurantee you root for your model. As it seems your kernel is before june 3, im not sure why towelroot wont work. Have you tryed other rooting applications? Heres the thread and theres a post somewhere for the T231

Coming from a Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505 (rom was before Knox, yay!)) I guess I'm spoiled for info. I didn't quite expect it to be this sparse. :-/
Only 2 threads concerning rooting and installing recovery on the SM-G870F..
Even though I've been here for almost a decade, I still find it unsettling every time i have to fiddle with the firmware.
And even more so, when Samsung is threatening with all sorts of evil (which btw by law, doesn't ruin my guarantee where I live).
So thanks guys! I'm now rooted (Chainfire -Towelroot doesn't work) and have made a backup with TWRP.

I confirm that twrp-2.8.7.0-klte ( galaxy S5 international version) works without problem on S5 Active ( SM-G870F).
You can not install this custom recovery direct from TWRP Manager from GooglePlay but installing is possible through Odin.
It was very hard to get any information and find clear experience about possible custom recovery for this model (SM-G870F). But thanks for you guys, it actually works now on my phone. :good:
Looking for Safestrap for SM-870W
Hi All,
After some research, I found that Samsung S5 Active (Bell (Canada) Mobility) has a locked bootloader
so I cannot install CWR or TWRP customer recovery. So I guess it Safestrap for me. But I can only find
Safestrap for either AT&T or Verizon http://www.mediablog.us/download-install-safestrap-recovery-verizon-galaxy-s5-sm-g900v-att-galaxy-s5-sm-g900a/
Can I use either one of them on my device? My intention is to load Koolkit ROM but I need to figure
out first how can I install Safestrap on my phone.
Any help, advise or suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you.

You can use Wanam Xposed module to fake your device status. There are other Xposed modules that also does this. At first I thought this was only a cosmetic information, but it actually tricks the system and the OTA really work. It worked for me.

If there is a new firmware, you can simply download it on pc from a repository, flash via odin and reroot.

Me too. Wanam only make you able to download the update, but cannot install.
I have to install via Odin.
Actually I use this trick only to be alerted when something new is available. I flash it using ODIN.

I am under custom recovery and i believe that the reason OTA update fail even fake the status.
Anyway to revert to stock recovery?
I don't like Kies, but sometimes I have to use it to check if there's an update, and if it finds one, it will install it for you but you have to reroot afterwards. I think this is the only method if you're rooted.
@Andrewtst, I had a Note 3 with custom recovery (CWM), and when I was one firmware behind, Kies prompted me for an update and after I updated it I got the stock recovery back. Don't know if this is the case with the Note 4, will try when there's an update for my Note 4.

Root and recovery working on lollipop

I don't take credit for this, i am just giving a guide on how i was able to gain root and recovery on the Sprint Note 4 with Lollipop.
Let me start by saying i was running the Hybrid-X series rom. Here were my steps to upgrade to Lollipop and keep all my data. If you are on stock, skip this step.
1. Flash the stock rom tar found here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95853297432265112
2. Once you reboot, run system update and you will download and install Lollipop. When it installs and reboots, you should still have all your data and apps.
Once in lollipop, i followed our old root method which does work for lollipop found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/sm-n910-cf-auto-root-t2897428
Now, to get recovery, you can do it 2 different ways.
1.download an app called flashify from the play store. Download the following file in .img form:
http://www.techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/trltespr
2. download the .tar file from above and flash in oodin.
Once you have both on your phone, open flashify, select recovery image and hit Yup! and then reboot. Your phone should reboot into TWRP.
At this point you will have all your data, root, and recovery. Enjoy
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for damage to your phone or voiding your warranty.
As a note, i would backup your data though any apps that you can. I wiped the data since the system seemed sluggish. When i restored thought titanium, there were a lot of apps that were crashing. Wiping the data to each app didn't work. I had to uninstall and re-install the app, but then you loose the data.
On a second note, once i wiped data in recover, lollipop was very nice and smooth.
Awesome good find have to try it out

Samsung Grand prime LTE SM-S920L Custom recovery for CWM

Sm s920l root
Just got the same phone at Walmarts Black Friday and have been scouring the Web about root.Just today OneClickRoot posted that it is now able to provide root access. I've downloaded the apk, but am going to wait to see how others fair.
Well, the phone IS rootable. Kingroot apk's v4.5.0 and higher can do it. But I distrust kingroot and used SuperSUme Pro to remove and switch me over to the superior SuperSU.
Sm s920l root with Kingroot
I rooted my last phone (Galaxy Core Prime from ST) with Kingroot and had many problems. Just wondering if you're having any issues. One Click Root claims s920l is root able with their apk,but I didn't have any luck.
I didn't have any issues with kingroot other than trust issues. It did grant me root access to my device. I was however very relieved to get supersu-me pro to remove it and install SuperSU.
Received your reply.
Ended up using the latest Kingroot and have root.Tried using Super Sume, but I lose root until I reinstall Kingroot.Hmmmm.....
I was only able to get super-su me to remove kingroot v4.5.0. 4.5.0 can root this phone, so you can remove root and root with it, then install super-su me and immediately run it. Worked for me.
Since rooting,I can send text, but not receive. Did a factory reset, but still have the same issue.

I had no luck with One Click, either.First tried latest Kingroot, but after applying SuperSume, I'd lose root.Kingroot 4.5 was able to be removed with SuperSume and SuperSume binaries installed.

No, it's the stock RECOVERY.
Is there a custom recovery for SM-S920L? Saw a post back in December saying it was in the works but still can't find it.

Easy way to root after dev edition conversion?

Exactly as the title states. Is there an easy way to root after the dev edition conversion? Also I don't have the unlocked lock and the word custom when I boot. Am I for sure converted to the dev edition?
Flash twrp with odin. Flash supersu. Easy.

Enter download mode. It should say Mode: Developer

in my experience I flashed twrp for the recovery and it wasn't until then that it gave me the unlocked lock and the "custom." Also you could check same way they said by loading "download mode" (Power + Home + Volume Up). It should say "Developer." I've also read about the "BrickBug" app but I haven't personally used it. As for rooting I'm still working on mine.
EDIT: Beat me to it

Not to sound like I'm clueless, but when you say flash SuperSu, is that through Odin? And if so, what section does it go under? I've also followed other guides to go into recovery mode after flashing twrp through odin, and that just tries to install a software update that nobody has mentioned on here. Also, SuperSu doesn't seem to have anything for the Note 4 yet, so what version would we flash?
And with SuperSuME, when it opens SuperSu, SuperSu gives me an error message and tells me to auto-root it. And with that, I assume it means with CF-auto root, which also, last I checked, doesn't have a 5.1.1 note 4 download.
Sorry if I'm being a burden on you with all my questions, I've never rooted a phone successfully before today (and that's just temp root)

Also, I'm not at home currently and I'm trying to find a way around having to use a computer. I saw someone in another thread used TWRP manager on their phone to install TWRP, but I don't know what I'm doing in it. So if you know anything about that, I would appreciate some help with it.

SuperSU
I didn't want to start a new thread for this. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and flashed twrp but I am running into issues with SuperSU. Flashing the latest zip causes a bootloop and I cannot install it with Odin either. I verified that everything else has happened correctly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
