I hear all the talk about unlocked bootloaders which would allow us to install CM7 on our DX's. What exactly makes CM7 the clear and cut best ROM out for unlocked phones? Features? Speed? Battery Life?
I'm just curious, and I'm extremely excited.
VICTORY IS OURS!! haha im excited too

LOL I just ordered a replacement Droid X as well, mine has a screen defect. I don't think you'll get yours until Tuesday though, they don't send out overnight stuff on Sundays.

Actually ordered it on Friday, they did say it would arrive on Tuesday, but as I was tracking my shipping on FedEx, it said estimated to arrive on Monday.

All of the above.
I may be wrong, but I believe CM7 is a Gingerbread rom.
I'm still excited as ****.

This is awesome news. When I had my droid I used to run sapphire and CM. I haven't really gotten into the ROM scene with my X but I am excited to see what comes out of this leak.
So how long is going to take before we see some custom kernels/cm7??

Wow, that is awesome. I don't even really know what to expect out of this, but a DX with a unlocked bootloader has to be one of the best phones on the market right now, correct?
TBolt isn't worth upgrading to IMO. I'm waiting until August-December, and a unlocked DX makes the wait that much easier.

Yeah it will be a beast. I am already getting Quadrant scores ~2200 on a regular basis with Liberty 1.5/Stagefright, and I am willing to bet that, with custom kernels in the game now, we can get over 3000, as everything can be streamlined

That attitude leads me to believe he just wanted to get something started. Guess nobody will know for sure until thoroughly tested, but my hopes aren't too high. People claim that Moto sending a C&D order proves, to an extent, the legitimacy of this key... however, like with the key, all we have is his word. Where's the Moto letter? It's all based purely on the assumption that he's not a total jackass. I do hope it's real, though.. will refrain from holding my breath for now.

It may be a week or so minimum. Follow @freemymoto on twitter for updates. They will be working on this project, but give them time; these things need to be thoroughly tested by the devs before it is released to the public.

Thanks for the insight. I will try not to.. i really hope he doesn't. I can only hope for the best right now.
Great news! I can't wait to see this beast that is the DX unlocked.
I really hope developers take their time and release a solid ROM instead of rushing to it just for the sake of releasing the " first " unlocked ROM for bragging rights.
I hope there is nothing sacrificed as well. My biggest gripe is that of missing features for speed. I am willing to wait it out
My only question (and don't get me wrong, I'm excited our phones will be getting unlocked) is about re-locking our phones. If we have to return them for any kind of repair/replacement issue, and VZ sees the bootloader was unlocked, I have a feeling they would say we voided our warranties. Right now with the locked bootloader all we have to worry about is sbf'ing/madderstcok'ing our phones back to stock. Does anyone know if the unlocking process is going to have a re-locking process?

This process won't involve unlocking the bootloader, it'll consist of flashing an .sbf file using the current security keys which replaces stock recovery with clockworkmod and replaces the stock keys with our own keys. Then, we can create new kernels and roms that use our own keys. Thus, the security stays intact and we can still do whatever we want. Flashing back to stock will simply require flashing one of the leaked .sbf files (.340 for instance) that has been altered to include the new keys.
In short, we don't break down the door, we just change the lock so we can have access whenever we want.
Damn! I just can't use stock phones anymore!! The XDA Community moves so fast I thought that by now there would already be a ROM dump (it's been less than a day, I know). I suppose we need a recovery first. The hardware looks good. I know it has a slightly larger battery than the II, but if 3's actual battery life is anywhere near the II on custom ROMs, I'd be a very happy camper. Let the devs begin! :good:
I know me to. It bootloader let's locked again, maybe thinking about either getting a unlocked TMobile version or wait for Canadian unlocked.

Dang not the warm and fuzzy I was hoping for. So my ATT is due to be delivered this am. Or I can spend $400.00 more and go buy a T-Mobile. Crap I was hoping for a Root already.
I am hoping for something like Loki for this phone. It is great hardware but has too much crapware installed. Root would be good just to be able to remove some of it.

The fact that carriers lock the bootloader is both futile and absurd. If they consider the big picture, keeping it unlocked would actually help sales. I realize that they have a business objective to protect and want to maintain their marketing strategy, but the the bootloader almost always gets broken in the end. If they consider that single fact--then they should come to this conclusion: Why put people through hoops to get the access if they will eventually get it anyway? It just pisses people off.
Locking the bootloader does nothing for those who have no interest in root, etc. It does bring bad will for those who want root and will eventually get it.
It's just silly. Give people what they want!!

Does anyone remember how long it took the Note II's bootloader to get cracked?

Is it true that, with the many phones that have arrived with a locked bootloader, they have almost always been cracked at some point?

There is often an exploit at some point, but I don't recall any devices with locked bootloaders being truly cracked.

Do you guys think the lollipop update will help the chance of a root method being found? When the update comes out should I do it right then and there or wait to see if lollipop will completely ruin any chance
There was an article from ChainsDD saying that if anything lollipop is more locked down. My bet is, if their going to get root it's going to be on KitKat.

Wouldn't we have root by now then? I only say because KitKat doesn't seem that hard to root even though it varies depending on OEM. I would think since lollipop for the Droid Turbo isn't too far off (we hope) Then devs would just wait til then for root because most people will take the lollipop update. At least that's how it looks to me and this is my opinion
I'm pretty sure Lollipop will come with root.

Please explain I'm intrigued
To sum up what I think he means is he believes that root will be obtained in lollipop for the Droid Turbo ( Again just guessing)
I think reduces chances of root
I say helps. Because pretty soon all current moto phones will be on lollipop anyways

My opinion is that Kit Kat doesn't have root NOT because its impossible but because the lack of interest from the people that find these exploits, perhaps its just a matter of time before one of these guys gets a Turbo and works on it or so we hope.
Finding these exploits is not easy an requires insane amounts of personal time and resources, often with little reward. I understand that there's a bounty on this site but this site is just a star in a galaxy. Sometimes these exploits are found by Asian hackers not Americans therefore the audience is very limited on a Verizon exclusive device like our Turbo.
I do however believe, and this is just my opinion and perhaps wishful thinking, that Lollipop will shine a spotlight on this device and people will notice it even more and perhaps attract some of these guys willing to spend hours after hours finding that one vulnerability in that one line code where they can inject their own code to achieve root. Good luck to us!

I bet the differ. No phone would come out with an update with root included. An exploit needs to be found. Even chainfire states that root access is going to be harder with lollipop. I dont think we will be seeing root anytime soon. Atleast for a year.
I hope he didn't actually mean the update would be rooted already.
