With 2 weeks to go, the excitement is palpable. For Nexus fans this is the only option.
Indian fans, time to get discussing on the upcoming "designed by Google" beauty.

Welcome to the world of cohesiveness - software and hardware designed to work together. What makes Google's just-announced Pixel phones different from the Nexus products we'e seen before? It's all in the software. Yes, the Pixels will keep current with the latest version of Android and monthly security updates; those are important things! But this is no longer the bare "stock" Android that Nexus devices were always known for. Google has layered on new features exclusive to the Pixel and Pixel XL overtop Android 7 Nougat. A lot of the changes are cosmetic, but there's also some genuinely useful stuff that's reserved for Pixel owners.
Specifications
The Pixel has a 5-inch display, while the Pixel XL's measures 5.5-inches, and they're powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 CPUs. The cameras are 12.3MP, and they have 4GB of RAM. Despite rumors of different displays, Google said both will feature a "high resolution" AMOLED screen (and yes, there is a headphone jack). The best news, however, is that with Pixel's fast charging over USB-C, you should expect 7 hours of battery life from a 15-minute charge.

Distinguishing features
Google Assistant
Google’s answer to Siri and Alexa is one of the Pixel’s biggest features. Google Assistant is more advanced and capable than the Google Now voice assistant on other Android phones; it’s more contextually aware to what’s happening on your devices and can tap into popular third-party apps like WhatsApp and OpenTable.
Pixel Camera
Google finally made a good camera app! To go along with the Pixel’s 12-megapixel camera — touted as the best camera in any smartphone, ever — Google has unveiled Pixel Camera. With features like white balance control and exposure compensation, it’s a lot more capable than the old Nexus camera app. A new "smart burst" mode captures a stream of shots, and Google uses artificial intelligence to choose the clearest, best shot. The camera also uses HDR+ by default with "zero shutter lag" to achieve the maximum dynamic range for each shot.
Unlimited backups of photos and 4K videos at original quality
Pixel buyers get worry-free backup with Google Photos. All photos and videos (even 4K recordings) can be backed up — for free — with Google's cloud service.
24/7 voice and chat support
If you’ve got a problem with either Pixel phone, you can head to the settings menu and immediately launch a voice call or chat session with Google’s customer support team. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From there, you can also choose to allow screen sharing so that the Google employee can control your device and show you firsthand how to fix whatever's not working right.
What about India?
Looks like we are in luck. Google Pixel phones will be available Quite Black and Very Silver at Flipkart, Reliance Digital and Croma pre-order starting October 13th
Prices
Pixel 32GB - INR 57,000
Pixel 128GB - INR 66,000
Pixel XL 32GB - INR 67,000
Pixel XL 128GB - INR 76,000
Other
Pixel users will have access to a toll free phone support number along with 54 walk in service centres across 30+ cities in India.
All we know so far is that the Pixel device would bring us Android 7.1!!
Possibly, NDE63H.
It would be exciting to see what cool features our own Sunder Pichai brings with the Pixel lineup, which would differentiate them with the Nexus devices of yore.
Thoughts?
Any info on the display type? HTC display are not even IPS. Let alone amoled.. [emoji20]

I feel VR is going to be the highlight here with "daydream". Nexus phones always highlight latest software features. This year it was VR and assistant so I guess those will be highlight features?
Also with the next background update and partition system and also since this year its no longer "nexus" - lets see how dev/root friendly these new phones are.

Lets see the phones first. Then hype about the price. Since is the year they rebrand and also spend much more on marketing as "flagship/iphone killer" I want the phones to standout first.

Personally I hate it. Those icons are pathetic.

@nishant786 I personally like the Pixel UI !!
I like the design but the bezel at the bottom is huge so that's a worry. I'm conflicted between the Pixel/XL or the HTC 10. I have a feeling it'll be really expensive here.
Google pixel event will be live from San Francisco from 9:30 pm (IST) onwards
So October 13th! What do you guys think?? Although i love the hardware design... overall I'm slightly...... underwhelmed?
But then cohesiveness is what has made Apple so big. So I guess the user experience will be the *huge thing* here right?

Hey great to see you here sajid bhai. Thanks for the link.
Im not hoping for dual sim because Google has gone the iPhone way this time plus none of the Nexii had it.
Lets hope the prices are ok so that they gain some traction.
My problem with these phones is that eventhough everything was leaked I was still hoping that Google would add some distinguishing features such as 3D touch etc.
But all we got was the same feature tread as any Nexus. Mostly software.
I know that the components used including memory and camera and the fact that this is entirely (software+hardware) made by Google will ensure a refined user experience just like the iPhones. And that is HUGE for android!!
But just like watching the iPhone keynotes, I cant help but feel... Slightly underwhelmed.

Yeah, I am interested. But I hope this phone has VoLTE support. The 6P was a disappointment in that aspect.

But seriously, it is the pricing that makes one pause and think if these phones are really worth the money.

So I found leaks of the MIUI 8 for our phone (one was 6.6.12 and one was 6.6.14). Both are in Chinese and I guess we will have to wait until 17th June to see the full version. Unfortunately by the posts on miui forums and the build.prop it looks like we won't be getting Android M anytime soon.
What is even worse (at least as I see it) we will be staying on the old Android 5.0.2 (not even 5.1) and to my knowledge we don't have any useful sources for building Marshmallow ROMs.

The 6.6.12 should be a bit better
Woooow that's awesome.... (pls..) I think we will never get Marshmallow because of Mediatek closed sources
Remember that HTC A9 has the same Mediatek chipset and somehow received Marsmellow so it is not impossible at most. Let's hope that Xiaomi wont leave this phone without ANY system update, otherwise milions of users will be pissed off and may think twice befor buying their next device.

what version of miui 8? 8.6.6.12 or 6.6.14
this is the last time i bought a phone with mediatek or xiaomi. i hate miui but because they don't release the source codes developers cannot produce decent custom roms. The camera of CM romsis awful andAosp is also not very good. most important is allowing double tap to wake but they don't even allow us this feature to have. My power button reacts really bad because i have to push is so often. I don't care if I have Miui 8, 9, 20 or anything. They should at least update to Marshmallow so we can have some progress. It is so annoying. We live in the year 2016 and there is no real communication or information comming from xiaomi to the users. This is so sad and annoying
they talk too much about MIUI8 , but still using 5.0.2? what's wrong with xiaomi?
even they don't want to release kernel source, so it is small chance for someone to build CM13

HTC A9 has Snapdragon 617, not Mediatek processor.
I think it should be pretty clear by now that if excellent 3rd party ROM support is really important to you, you should steer clear of the Xiaomi+Mediatek combination. That combination produces an amazing price+performance ratio, and is almost unbeatable at that. However, with such low costs and margins, it is unrealistic to expect the kind of development/support that exists for the more expensive devices (i.e., you get what you pay for).
Personally, I am not complaining about lack of sustained development support. I do not like the fact that we are stuck with 5.02 - but I went for the RN2 with my eyes wide open (and probably so did most people who chose to buy it). Battery life could be better - but the same goes for expensive iPhones. The camera could be better, but it is good enough for most things. The device is reasonably well specced, very cheap, reasonably fast, and there are some reasonably good cooked ROMs in this forum. It is an excellent medium-range device, at an entry-level price and with an entry-level support. Premium, it is most certainly not. So what is it realistic to expect? There is always the OnePlus 3 ...
Bottom line: anyone who is really keen on excellent 3rd party ROM support should go for a Snapdragon device. It will cost you more, but you will get what you pay for.

So you are saying ''well you didn't pay much so you have no right to complain''? Sorry but I think we can expect a descent communication and that we get informed properly from xiaomi. Mm was annouced month ago but till today nobody knows for sure if we will get it. And allowing gestures is not too much to ask for. The device is technically able for that but we don't get this feature or the codes to develope it. I had a cubot x9. It was cheaper than the rn2 but it had this feature. And it was a MTK device too. I'm not that much that it has to offer all that a 700$ device does.

My point is that I am realistic in my expectations. Having a cheaper Cubot that does different (or more) things is beside the point. We bought a cheap phone with a particular ROM installed. I did not expect to be able to change that ROM, or for it to be updated frequently (or even at all). If I could not have lived with what it came with, I would not have bought it. For every person here who wants to change his ROM, there are millions who do not know what a ROM is, or who could not care less. For every person here who would like kernel sources (I certainly would), there are tens of millions who have no idea what a kernel is, and who really do not care. That is why someone can sell the phone so cheaply. By all means, complain if you must - but I doubt that anyone in China is listening!
Hi,
I just made a ZUK Z2 video review that I wanted to share with you:
Mod Edit: Link removed.
I hope you enjoy it!
In case you prefer written reviews, here it is:
ZUK is Lenovo-backed company, which makes some great phones at affordable prices. Z2 is one of their latest models and I have to tell you that I love this phone but make sure to watch this video to hear all the pros and cons about the device. This is Linus, stay tuned.
First of all, the price. The phone retails for just under $330 and the Z2 is definitely a great bang for your buck. In fact, I have a generous $30 off coupon code, which you will find in the video description. At $299, ZUK Z2 is very hard to beat.
The device sports a familiar yet classy design and extra-ordinary build quality. The metal frame goes all around the device and a Gorilla Glass 4-covered back panel has a some sort of coating that prevents it from attracting those gross fingerprints and smudges.
The buttons are nice and tactile, the phone has two nano SIM card slots and the loudspeaker quality is pretty good but definitely not the best I’ve heard.
The 5” 1080p display is sharp and crisp, and it makes the phone compact and manageable in one hand.
An 8MP selfie shooter can take some pretty good pictures.
ZUK did a phenomenal job using a multi-purpose physical home button. You can click it, tap it, swipe from one side to another, reprogram it and so on.
A fingerprint sensor may not be the fastest on the market but it gets the job done and it works straight from the standby mode.
Another thing that I love about the ZUK Z2 is that it is a very fast phone and that it is thanks to the bleeding-edge specifications. The phone has a Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage.
These kind of specs not only match all the latest flagships in terms of sheer power but also assure a smooth user interface performance despite the fact that the UI has tons of features, various tweaks and customization options.
Also, you can be rest assured that the phone will run all the latest 3D games without any issues.
A phone sports a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and it can take some great daylight images but the quality decreases in lower-lit situations. Also, the phone can shoot some decent looking 4k videos.
Finally, ZUK Z2 sports a beefy 3500mAh battery that can be fully charged in under 1 h and 30 mins. As for day to day use, I could constantly get over 5 hours of SOT on a mixed use of the phone.
On the other hand, ZUK Z2 is not a perfect smartphone. Although it has 64GB of storage as standard and dual SIM support, it lacks the microSD card slot. I’m okay with that but I know that it is a very important feature for a lot of users.
Although the phone can handle 3D games well, I’ve noticed that it gets really warm pretty quickly. The heat doest not impair performance but hopefully this is what ZUK is going to address in the future software updates.
Finally, the display could be slightly brighter to assure a better sunlight legibility.
All in all, ZUK Z2 is a fantastic phone for the price of $300. Sure, it is not a perfect device but I believe this is one of the offerings for the price despite a few shortcomings.
Any info about sound quality (through headphones)? what DAC/amp chip if it has any, thanks

The best part of the ROM is you can delete 90% of the apps. The worst part is the Safe Center that you can't delete and have to set up every app permission you install.
Guys could you please tell me. Is this phone good for a woman that dont actually have much interest in mods of the phone. Simple use is what she is after. Is this phone something you would recommend. Yes we are considering standard version. Please give me some feedback. Thanks
Public Service Announcement: For people who are considering getting a ZUK phone in places where they aren't officially sold, consider getting international warranty or at least have frequent access to a place where there's ZUK support.
My ZUK Z2's SIM card contacts spoilt a month after purchase, and being in Singapore, there's no way to get it repaired by ZUK/Lenovo, so it's only useful with WiFi.
Lesson learnt: Get warranty. You might get lemons, like I did.

The Zuk Z2 is only officially sold in China so the only way to get it is through resellers. They have a one year warranty where you ship it to them in China where the manufacturer warranty will be honored and the reseller will ship it back.

bought honor 8 and Mi5 Prime. But I'm always interested in your view on it. Especially screen and colors reproduction.
i was a z1c user who moved to the zuk z2 (after considering the z3c, z5c, and x compact). overall, happy with my choice so far:
improvements (over z1c / z5c):
+ phone is blazing fast with 820 and 4gb ram
+ 3500ma battery = no more bringing your charger around with you
+ screen quality is decent, not like an s7, but just as clear and crisp as z1c
+ great value (got it for $250 new) vs. other "compact" options
+ decent dev community at zukfans.eu and bbs.zuk.cn (if you can read chinese), helps overcome the limitations of the stock rom
downisdes:
- still a little too large in size (5.0in) and too tall (140mm) vs. z1c / z5c. but this is literally the smallest phone with 820 processor on the market right now
- stock rom (ZUI) can be polarizing, design language too similar to iOS for me. plus you are unable to expand notifications or customize the UI using third party theme engines
- camera is slightly weaker than z1c / z5c

Gapps was there? did able to get Gapps worked on ZUI ?
flash your own gapps for customer roms, easy to do
on ZUI, just sideload play services and play store and it will work fine
there is some development going on by chinese devs on bbs.zuk.cn, but not a lot yet as the device has only launched officially in china and india
current stable builds are available for stock ZUI, CM13, RR, AICP, Mokee
alpha builds available for CM14

Great video, Considering pre-ordering this phone on newegg. Was originally looking to buy a huawei P9 lite but was put off by the lack of warranty and difficulty of finding a device compatible with cellular bands in Canada. This seems like a good device for the price and it will be nice to have some sort of north american support on a huawei phone. How are you liking your Honor 8 so far? Have you had any Huawei/Honor phones in the past?
Thanks for the video, I am excited about thr Honor 8 .
I hope to get it the next month.

Battery life is amazing for what it comes with. Honor got some nice management put in place and I pulled 6.2 sot last night on their *smart* battery management ... After some heavy gaming to kill it before bed. I gave up at 5? I am using their *performance* set up today and so far done 15 minute of gps time. Also my signal is not good at work (T-Mobile) so that is something to factor in for my battery drain.
In a nut shell, I am personally impressed.
I too have the device so if any question will happily answer along with the OP.
looks good.

Wow, 6h SOT is fantastic. Thanks, I am trying to get this device soon (to develop for it).
For me, the screen is to small. Other than that, good specs.

Yeah I've used quite a few Hauwei devices and this one is very different than the ones in the past. The build is noticeably higher quality. I'm still messing around with the camera which has a lot of awesome features. I'll make a new thread showing some sample photos and videos later on.

Well come on over! Preorder at the moment, 50 dollars off!
If you do not mind small screen, you will be fine. I am currently using the note 5 (officially note 7) and if I go between the two device I honestly do not get bothered by it. Once I decrease the DPI the screen will be where I need it

And I am trying to get through XDA's incentive program
Do you guys think Kirin will have a chance to have an (or some) AOSP based rom(s) later?
i am very interested in this phone i have seen a lot of conflicting reviews/opinions on the camera...which is a big deal to me....

I like the black more, but the blue is gorgeous too.
1. I have a Nexus 6P and I think its not worth the upgrade
2. The price - at 1000 dollars this thing will set you back a hefty penny
3. No OIS. The phone doesnt have OIS, but it has EIS which uses software to stabilize the image
4. No front facing speakers
5. Not water resistant. if they are competing with Apple, why would they leave this out?
6. Same battery size as my nexus 6p
7. Since its a pixel phone it might be locked down like an IPhone (not confirmed but there is a chance)
8. 4GB RAM. Most phones nowadays have 4GB of RAM
9. No official updates after 2 years. This was one of the things that turned me off as well. They released this phone as a competition to Apple yet they will support their phones for less years.
10. The bezel. Its big, with nothing useful on it
11. 5.5 inch screen. Even the nexus 6p has a 5.7 inch screen.
12. Mono speakers
13. Pixel Launcher is not really that good. I'm sure most people will go back to google launcher because it's more customizable
I am sure there are more stuff to list. but these are what convinced me to cancel my pre order.
I guess ill just keep my 6P and see what happens next year.
This was all known in advance of the pre-order page going live. Why did you even bother ordering in the first place?
It was all just an illusion
Same. I find it hilarious how they position it at iPhone pricing, and then leave out features that the iPhone has like water resistance and official updates for years
I'm about to cancel mine too...
Compare with the Axon 7!
-Better camera
-Dual front speakers
-No bezel
-Half the price

The BMW-designed Axon 7 ($400) even has the SAME 5.5" 1440p AMOLED Samsung display the Pixel XL uses.
And has award-winning audio capability with front facing speakers.
And REAL rear camera OIS.
It's also Daydream VR capable... (just like the Pixel XL)
Plus, it's slightly smaller phone (slimmer bezels!)
Google should have bought like 1 million ZTE Axon 7 phones for $400 each, slapped their Nougat software on, sold them as the "Pixel XL" for $500! It would STILL be $300 - $400 cheaper than the real pathetic Pixel XL and be a much better phone! I would buy 3 of those right now.

Not pre-ordering and will never order - there is very little to like about this phone.
I've had all the Nexus phones with exception of the S starting with the One up until and including the 6 (which I'm still happily using) .
For me, Google is not going in the right direction. I'd take the Axon over this junk, although I think I'd rather have a 6" screen, so will consider the Mate 8 or the 9. Or maybe just hold on to the 6 for while longer.
That's what I'm doing I'm getting the 6p its a better phone that pixel xl ...

id get the nexus, if you want timely updates
So what are they going to do, just not give an update to the Pixel? Does that mean that Nougat is going to stop having updates?
No change regards updates.
Somewhat disappointing given the fact they are trying to sell this phone on a strong software slant.

Except who knows when the Axon is going to receive Nougat, and when O is released what are the chances ZTE is going to push an update. Even without OIS the camera is still going to be a lot better on the Pixel as well.
IMO it's really annoying that Google isn't supporting Pixel phones for at least 3 years with OS updates. For that price point it should be AT LEAST 3 years and 4 years of security updates. Hell, inexpensive ChromeOS devices are supported for 5 years.
It's getting really hard to recommend an Android phone to a family member or friend. Especially when VZW is the only carrier who is selling the Pixel.

3. No OIS. The phone doesnt have OIS, but it has EIS which uses software to stabilize the image - Still has the best camera on the market so does no OIS really matter?
4. No front facing speakers - Not something I've ever had or wanted. I've always listened to music via external speakers because they're better than ANY smartphone speakers, front facing or not
5. Not water resistant. if they are competing with Apple, why would they leave this out? - Never needed this either. Also there is evidence to suggest that making phones water resistant with tight compartments is lending to phones blowing up recently
6. Same battery size as my nexus 6p - But SD810 is way way way less battery efficient
7. Since its a pixel phone it might be locked down like an IPhone (not confirmed but there is a chance) - I ordered from VZW, so yah mine will 100% be locked down. Why don't I care? The last time I rooted a phone was the Galaxy S6, I think. You guys still do that? Why?
8. 4GB RAM. Most phones nowadays have 4GB of RAM - Plenty for a stock Android device
9. No official updates after 2 years. This was one of the things that turned me off as well. They released this phone as a competition to Apple yet they will support their phones for less years. - In 1 year I will be on to a new device. My upgrade pattern has typically been 6mon...
10. The bezel. Its big, with nothing useful on it - Keeps you from accidentally pressing things on the sides ala S7 Edge/Note7 and the chin allows better balancing and holding of the device for taking photos
11. 5.5 inch screen. Even the nexus 6p has a 5.7 inch screen. - I'm good with 5.5" in it's current footprint, see above comment

I'd like to hear more of your thoughts...
I get that people like different things for different reasons but to me it's as good a buy as any other phone on the market that was intended for the US. Since my personal opinion is that the Note7 is crap, I was actually seriously considering getting an iPhone 7 Plus. I'm super super super glad that this phone was announced because I didn't really want an iPhone but was going to bite the bullet since it's next best thing imo.
So guys oneplus 7 pro is just around the corner(less than a months before resealed)and according to latest news it will be the most advanced and of course the most expensive version in oneplus history.
Personal talking after after my 9 month usage of 5T I'm returning back to Oneplus since skipped both 6/6T as I hate whatever notch shape inside screen.
The latest rumors saying about major upgrade over all previous oneplus devices.

Only way I'll switch to it if they fix all the issues that's been plaguing them since the first device.
SW and Sources need to improve too..
Having a HTC phone every year for almost 2 decades, finally switched to the 6T. I have no complaints about OnePlus other than the camera software. Easily solved by switching to GCam. I am looking forward to the 7 Pro. Full screen, QHD with 90hz refresh. Pop up camera, I don't take a thousand selfies a day and welcome it. No damn worrying about it breaking, too slow or getting lint in there. I take care of my devices so if it does have curves sides, awesome. I use Shortcutter a lot so that would extra real estate for me and maybe a nice side panel notification area.
You might as well buy a Samsung Galaxy s10 for the price a op7 pro will cost,
Have a OnePlus 6T at the moment but it is pretty boring with no new/needed features ever added.
Looking at the Samsung a70/a80 now as being better and more affordable than the direction Oneplus are going

Well you should know that for many people it's not matter of how much cost one device compared to another but they are looking and take attention for a more important differentation between devices.
For example oneplus a very respective user base target group they don't care for Sammy or Huawei or Apple at all.
They don't care for dealing with One UI or EMIU or ios no matter they cost.
They are simple loving and prefer Oxygen and near stock android experience or simple prefer oneplus device because of the freedom brings.
Another reason is because many users hate notch or punch hols and prefer full screen experience.
So why should Sammy or Huawei be a choice for them??
Simple It is not all matter of cost or in other words I could say that some give more value to things that may have less value to other people.

Nope, this is clearly where I get off the OnePlus train... Popup camera that just seems like is going to break, I still miss my head phone jack way more than I thought I would, if I'm going to keep paying more and more for a phone, why am I going to keep compromising...

You couldn't pay me to take a Samsung.
90 Hz refresh rate , UFS 3.0 storage, 4000 mAh with 30W charging, OxygenOS...."quite tasty".
And then no ingress protection, pop-up camera, not so useful 5G(yet) but higher price tag for it...not so tasty.
Op7 lookin boring ish, 7 pro does sounds cool from the leaks etc, but if they push it over 700 quid , no thank u, whole idea behind op was affordable devices with flagships specs etc, got a feeling that 7 pro is only a 5G model... Hope im wrong
I would take only if they release one pro model without 5G.. I wouldn't pay $100-$200 more for 5G which isn't ready yet...
Nope. I have decided to upgrade every 2-3 years at least. 5g won't be ready for another 1-2 at least so no point. Very happy with 6T and the support it's getting at xda

There will be three devices.
7
7 Pro
7 Pro 5G
I have no desire to switch.
I just got my 6T at the end of last year.
7 = NO !!! (they say it look the same like 6t)
7 Pro = Yes.
7 Pro 5G = ?!?... 5g not ok for now. = BIG price.
99.9% will be 3 variant.
1. Regular familiar to 6T design with upgrade SOC as basic differentation with 6T
2. Pro with premium features but without 5G
3. Pro the same as the second but with 5G and very limited availability(2-3 country in Europe will be released not in US through)
Of course I'm only interesting on Pro version but without 5G as totally useless for 1-2 years at minimum.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
So, why switch now if 5G will be ready in 1-2 years? If you have 6T you are good until 5G is ready. By then there will be plenty of 5G phones and prices will go down.
Don't get sucked in now into new features.
Phones are very expensive these days, save your money or put in Roth IRA, pay yourself first
As someone that owned an htc thunderbolt when Verizon's 4g network went live. Man the battery was killed on that 4g. Wondering if the same battery killing will happen on the 5g

That's why everyone stated they will be leaning towards the 7 Pro withOUT 5G.
Nope. OP6T works, and this new one will be more expensive, and not have any substantial benefits, that would get me to buy it.
More power, not needed, brighter screen, not needed, fancy design not needed. For me, a phone is a tool. An extension of work. After work, unless someone calls me, I rarely touch it. It's "just a phone".
I know some get caught up in the newest fancy design & style, but, to me, it's "just a phone".
I am nearly 100% I will purchase the OnePlus 7 Pro (non-5G version). Specs / 90Hz display seems awesome!
