Hi,
I just made a ZUK Z2 video review that I wanted to share with you:
Mod Edit: Link removed.
I hope you enjoy it!
In case you prefer written reviews, here it is:
ZUK is Lenovo-backed company, which makes some great phones at affordable prices. Z2 is one of their latest models and I have to tell you that I love this phone but make sure to watch this video to hear all the pros and cons about the device. This is Linus, stay tuned.
First of all, the price. The phone retails for just under $330 and the Z2 is definitely a great bang for your buck. In fact, I have a generous $30 off coupon code, which you will find in the video description. At $299, ZUK Z2 is very hard to beat.
The device sports a familiar yet classy design and extra-ordinary build quality. The metal frame goes all around the device and a Gorilla Glass 4-covered back panel has a some sort of coating that prevents it from attracting those gross fingerprints and smudges.
The buttons are nice and tactile, the phone has two nano SIM card slots and the loudspeaker quality is pretty good but definitely not the best I’ve heard.
The 5” 1080p display is sharp and crisp, and it makes the phone compact and manageable in one hand.
An 8MP selfie shooter can take some pretty good pictures.
ZUK did a phenomenal job using a multi-purpose physical home button. You can click it, tap it, swipe from one side to another, reprogram it and so on.
A fingerprint sensor may not be the fastest on the market but it gets the job done and it works straight from the standby mode.
Another thing that I love about the ZUK Z2 is that it is a very fast phone and that it is thanks to the bleeding-edge specifications. The phone has a Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage.
These kind of specs not only match all the latest flagships in terms of sheer power but also assure a smooth user interface performance despite the fact that the UI has tons of features, various tweaks and customization options.
Also, you can be rest assured that the phone will run all the latest 3D games without any issues.
A phone sports a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and it can take some great daylight images but the quality decreases in lower-lit situations. Also, the phone can shoot some decent looking 4k videos.
Finally, ZUK Z2 sports a beefy 3500mAh battery that can be fully charged in under 1 h and 30 mins. As for day to day use, I could constantly get over 5 hours of SOT on a mixed use of the phone.
On the other hand, ZUK Z2 is not a perfect smartphone. Although it has 64GB of storage as standard and dual SIM support, it lacks the microSD card slot. I’m okay with that but I know that it is a very important feature for a lot of users.
Although the phone can handle 3D games well, I’ve noticed that it gets really warm pretty quickly. The heat doest not impair performance but hopefully this is what ZUK is going to address in the future software updates.
Finally, the display could be slightly brighter to assure a better sunlight legibility.
All in all, ZUK Z2 is a fantastic phone for the price of $300. Sure, it is not a perfect device but I believe this is one of the offerings for the price despite a few shortcomings.
Any info about sound quality (through headphones)? what DAC/amp chip if it has any, thanks
This is Z2, but it's Z2 pro section here no ?

The best part of the ROM is you can delete 90% of the apps. The worst part is the Safe Center that you can't delete and have to set up every app permission you install.
Guys could you please tell me. Is this phone good for a woman that dont actually have much interest in mods of the phone. Simple use is what she is after. Is this phone something you would recommend. Yes we are considering standard version. Please give me some feedback. Thanks
Public Service Announcement: For people who are considering getting a ZUK phone in places where they aren't officially sold, consider getting international warranty or at least have frequent access to a place where there's ZUK support.
My ZUK Z2's SIM card contacts spoilt a month after purchase, and being in Singapore, there's no way to get it repaired by ZUK/Lenovo, so it's only useful with WiFi.
Lesson learnt: Get warranty. You might get lemons, like I did.

The Zuk Z2 is only officially sold in China so the only way to get it is through resellers. They have a one year warranty where you ship it to them in China where the manufacturer warranty will be honored and the reseller will ship it back.
Any former Xperia Z3C and current Zuk Z2 users to throw a bit of comparision?

bought honor 8 and Mi5 Prime. But I'm always interested in your view on it. Especially screen and colors reproduction.
i was a z1c user who moved to the zuk z2 (after considering the z3c, z5c, and x compact). overall, happy with my choice so far:
improvements (over z1c / z5c):
+ phone is blazing fast with 820 and 4gb ram
+ 3500ma battery = no more bringing your charger around with you
+ screen quality is decent, not like an s7, but just as clear and crisp as z1c
+ great value (got it for $250 new) vs. other "compact" options
+ decent dev community at zukfans.eu and bbs.zuk.cn (if you can read chinese), helps overcome the limitations of the stock rom
downisdes:
- still a little too large in size (5.0in) and too tall (140mm) vs. z1c / z5c. but this is literally the smallest phone with 820 processor on the market right now
- stock rom (ZUI) can be polarizing, design language too similar to iOS for me. plus you are unable to expand notifications or customize the UI using third party theme engines
- camera is slightly weaker than z1c / z5c

so what do you suggest ? not a fan of CM
Gapps was there? did able to get Gapps worked on ZUI ?
flash your own gapps for customer roms, easy to do
on ZUI, just sideload play services and play store and it will work fine
there is some development going on by chinese devs on bbs.zuk.cn, but not a lot yet as the device has only launched officially in china and india
current stable builds are available for stock ZUI, CM13, RR, AICP, Mokee
alpha builds available for CM14

For those that don't want to read all the reviews themselves I will try to add a non biased summary:
Build quality:
Most if not all reviews like the build quality and think it feels and looks like a premium device.
Water resistance works as advertised.
some drop tests where done (not on concrete) and it survived without a scratch.
Screen quality:
Reviewers like the way the screen looks but viewing angles could/should be better eg not as good as the competition, but better than previous Sony devices.
synthetic test done on 100% brightness paint a different picture, the screen doesn't perform as well as it's competition, although color accuracy is excellent.
1080p is nice especially for text but don't count on a spectacular difference with 720p
The reviews that mentioned sunlight readability liked it.
Battery:
Battery is generally regarded as good.
stamina mode works pretty good .
Speed:
Devices feels speedy, no hiccups or slowness.
Syntactic benchmarks find that is is faster than devices that uses the same SOC ergo very fast
Camera:
Some say it's good others say it's rubbish. My take is that it depends on your taste. It is a bit soft and doesn't have a high saturation, so some would say it looks natural while others would say it looks toned down. this is something that is fixable with PS or iPhoto. I'm curious about the performance with a 3rd party camera app.
Sound/ Call quality:
speaker is average and on high volume perhaps below average.,
call quality is average
sound via earplugs/headphone for music etc is good / excellent
Overall:
All reviews agree that this is the best Sony smartphone ever.
All reviews rate 4 to 5 stars or equivalent
Some reviews think it is the best smartphone currently on the market ( or at least you are able to order it) while others think that there are better phones or that it is best to wait for the new HTC/Samsung/LG etc.

thanks, Google translate works well for this page.
I think at the end of the day, all top Android phones from Sony, HTC and Samsung are great, some will be a bit better in some departments but no landslide differences. And it just boils downs to style.
Personally I can't stand the Samsung feel, design and UI I think it is very ugly. So unless they change something in that department I will never own a Samsung.
For the current generation I would buy the HTC one X+ as the Sony T wasn't up to snuff spec wise (although I like the looks of the Sony better).
So for this generation it is again between HTC and Sony. While I like the one x and loved the original desire ,I just like the Sony design better (including UI). On top of that Sony has very good opensource support so, like I said before, unless HTC bringings a fantastic never before seen phone to the table I will keep my pre-order even if the Z is not the phone to end all phones .
I guess that all mayor hardware innovation except for battery are done do its maximum.
There is no real need for 1080p so even higher denseness would be insane.
Most if not all people I know how have an S3/iPhone 4/5 etc are perfectly happy speed wise, so while it is nice that the Z is even faster, and by a big margin, is not overly useful.
Sound etc are all good and for facebook, email, web photos all high end phones are pretty good.
What we miss is true software/hardware innovation to make use of the constantly increasing raw cpu/gpu power. So stuff like background video streaming to HDTV (wireless HDMI).
A desktop mode like unbuntu phone, but again should be able to do that while still using your smartphone as a smartphone.
And of course we need better battery tech.

And of course we need better battery tech.

same here, s3 is my first smart phone, and will be last samsung device forever. Hate the UI hate the cheapness of the phone, pentile oled is garbage. Sony and HTC are the only choice left for me on android phones really, but HTC new phones seems to be missing microsd lately, which is a big problem for me. Already have 10 gigs of songs on my sd card in my S3. Why is Xperia T spec not up to snuff? Its the same as the NA model of S3 just with less ram which I find to be not an issue at all since I never go over 800 mb usage on my S3. It comes out late but that doesn't make it weak, if so then the S3 would consider low end and weak by now and it still being sold for 600+ (buyout) in Canada as a flagship phone.

Well in Europe it is relatively speaking weak h/w but will cost you only 370 euro. the original one x is 440, S3 is 465, one x+ is 535 all off contract.
So I think price wise it is a good deal but I still would pay an extra 70 for the one x

Better camera, fingerprint sensor, new design = less dead space around the display...
I would prefer a edgeless display. Also more inovations like the galaxy s6

It is Japan only anyway if you believe the web
It has a smaller battery than the Z1 lol

By 90 mah..
That's like, 10 minutes usable time.. tops..
I don't really mind actually. Fingerprint scanner is just another useless feature (imo) because I don't think I will ever use it. No QHD display means better battery life plus we don't need QHD on a small display. I really like the design of the Z3, which is a phone I don't have. So upgrading from the Z1 to the Z4 would be a big jump. 3GB of ram is sufficient though 4GB would be nice. Heard that Sony is completely redesigning their UI. We'll see about that. Smaller battery? Well the Z3 has a beast of a battery life. Z3 has 3100mAh whilst the Z4 has a 2930mAh. A small drop but I'm sure Sony's famous Stamina Mode would really help the battery life.
Sure the upgrade isn't a big jump. The CPU is a bit disappointing. Snapdragon 810 is quite infamous already. But all in all, Sony just started back to their 1 flagship per year cycle. I'd say this a decent start. Just keep their flagship up to date while (hopefully) making the Z5 a HUGE improvement. I will definitely upgrade to the Z4. I won't buy the S6 or its Edge variant. Why? It's too expensive, even with contract. Seriously. It sure is nice but I spent $100+ for a 128gb microSD card. It'd be a waste if I moved over to Samsung considering, again, the 128gb variant of the S6/S6 Edge is damn expensive.
For other device, HTC One M9 is a big no no. Seriously. I dislike its design, the display is definitely off and bloody hell the camera is ugly. The Boomsound speaker is nice, would love to have it but it's not enough for me to go for the M9. LG G4? Nah. It probably has a QHD display like the G3. I don't need that and frankly it's a waste of battery life. Plus the leather design isn't my style.
I prefer Sony since the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro to the Xperia Arc S, to the Xperia V and now to the Z1 because of how beautiful and simple the design is. It is not flooded with features that are junk (again, in my opinion) and the fact that they support developers is nice. Plus I am already used to how we flash firmwares, roms, kernels, mods and other stuff on Sony devices. They are very, very easy. I will upgrade to the Z4. Been waiting for it since the time I can upgrade (last year, December).
tl;dr: I just can't go to other brands. They have designs and "features" that I dislike.
that is only for japan . Sony will announce a flagship in the end om May . The z4 is the last phone from the z line from sony .
mmmmmmm I will never buy a phone without sdcard slot......for me sdcard is mandatory, so no samsung and no htc anymore........let's wait, for now is only for japan, maybe for other country we can hope to have a 4gb ram this is the only lack for me........and a newer skin maybe.........and a bigger battery or same battery but in a compact version.......I have z1 but I would have bought a z1c, I have a really big hand but in my pocket it will fit better a z4c......let's wait and hope......

Said thousands of times that i hate them making phones with no real new features and even no new design
If u ask me what me what do I want, I would just say i couldnt think of many but if they cant think of it either then no need to make a meaningless new phone.
I wont expect Z5 either, start getting hopeless on sony

Honestly, your only gain for moving to Z4 seems to be the dual speaker

Well i am on Z1 as well. I Don't like how there is not much compared to the Z3 but it will be an upgrade for me. Slimmer bezels, lighter, bigger display, more ram. What i am scared of and will be waiting on multiple reviews from people themselves is the processor. I know they say it gets really hot and we already had heating issues with z1 and 2. I hope they know what they are doing.

That's not the only gain. Better display, and camera. It is lighter and thinner. Better battery life (hopefully). More Ram for my multitasking needs. Flapless microUSB port yet still waterproof. I already like my Z1 just as it is. All these improvements are considered a big upgrade for me since it improves on what I already like. Like I said, I don't need the other features that I think are useless.
I've never seen anyone complain about the lack of features on the Z2. People still upgraded to it. Now since the Z4 is still a better device than the Z2, why not just upgrade from my Z1? I can upgrade my phone once a year so if I don't like it, I can just wait for another year.
They needed to change the design. Note hugely, just a little. When I saw some leaks I was disappointed. Then there were rumours that it was actually the Neo...thank god. Then they release it officially. Bugger!

Is it just me they look like portable charger XD
Have a Z1 and looks like I'll move away. Can't see any real upgrade on the Z1 and one feature I really liked on the Z1 is the side charging connector. I've a Brodit car cradle and I just drop the phone into the cradle and it charges while I drive, no cables to plug in. They've removed this with adding QI or any other wireless charging.
Sorry Sony, looks like M9 or G4 will be my next upgrade (want card slot as I have a 128GB SD card full of FLACC files so Samsung is out)

Question. Why the M9? Doesn't the Z4 have about the same specifications as the M9?
Yes there very close, I feel HTC might be in the market longer than Sony (did not think I would ever say that). Nothing is sacred at Sony and its looking increasingly like Xperia may die especially if they can't put any real effort into new flagship products, makes me think the long term investment is not there.

Except for the obvious prediction that the next xperia is called z5 the rest of the article is purely speculative with no source (credible or not) mentioned. It more looks like the author just put together a wish list of his own. Honestly I grew tired of getting excited about these baseless prediction just to be disappointed when the actual release date came.
If you think about it logically, except for a very small group of geeks (myself happily included) who admire the engineering marvel that xzu is, most ordinary people ridicule this phone. The reaction I get from other people when they see me with the phone is that it is way too small to be a practical tablet and way too big to be a practical phone. That is why despite its excellent specs it is selling for around 250 dollars these days and no one is rushing to deplete the stocks.
Sony needs to revive its mobile business very badly and has to focus on the smallest number of investments with the highest return. Look at tablet z4 for example which anyone immediately falls in love with. And on the phone front it should follow a two tier premium model that was started by Samsung with the s series and note series, and copied by Apple as iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s plus, which has proved to be a super successful model in the United states and elsewhere. Another ultra phone has no place in such a line up, as sad as it may be for me and others in this forum.
Sorry to disappoint, but the next ultra will most likely have 6" display. the reason for it is obvious: much more pants pocket friendly. no brainer. most people aside of a minority of hardcore mobile geeks/some woman who carry a purse 24/7 who want larger display then 6" will buy a tablet. they want profit in 2016 and they want to rival mpte 5. 6s plus, lg new phablet, etc. and not some negligible chinese tablets with phone capabilities. there is no other way. it is a very good expected and wanted move for sony and all should be happy, including sony fans aside of minority of people who actually use z ultra as daily driver. most people beg sony to make a flag phablet that they actually never made (full flagship spec, more pocket friendly, etc.).

I agree. I don't know if its gonna be 6" (personally would prefer 6.2" if we can't have 6.4" again) but it will be smaller. The reason is simple: ZU didn't sell as well as they wanted.
Although I would argue if they do not release similar flagship phones every half a year the ZU would have position itself better to compete directly with the Galaxy Notes. But it seems they're still following the same business model they will blame on the size of the ZU being unpopular among consumers.
Most consumers and sony fans voice is loud and clear: "sony! make a phablet flag, give it the best spec - every feature of what the main size flag has and more, give it some simple software features to make good use of a large display like 2 windows mode, make it as pocket friendly as possible, don't make the display larger then 6", height dimensions should be as short as possible to further make it easier to carry in pants pocket". this is what i hear and read in the last 2 years. imagine such device with the beautiful sexy new design that only sony know to design, 6" JDI/AUO QHD display, 2 front speakers, latest camera sensor imx230, beefy 4000-4500 mAh battery, etc. *day dreaming*
6 inch display? Too small. It will be a tablet for me then. The Z3 TC or a Z5 TC is on my list of potential successors if they just introduce a 6 inch "Ultra".
I use my device for reading, browsing and so forth, which make 6 inch or smaller display inconvenient and a 10 inch tablet too big. Sweetspot is between 6.5-8 inches and devices smaller than 6.44 is not interesting at all, regardless of specifications due to a way too small display making the general use more uncomfortable (increased need for zooming and so on).
I agree. z3tc is definitely a good upgrade from z ultra and its true successor imo. there is no news of sony working on a new tc for 2h so its the best small tablet option. http://www.amazon.com/XPERIA-TABLET...=1437248308&sr=8-1&keywords=z3+tablet+compact
I'm all for phablets, but... 8in is too much even for me to be a phone that I can carry... 7in with no border would be ideal... Make a new ultra already sony...
Meh, I will always stick to at least 6 coll phones since the Z ultra and the only thing I care about is price and micro SD support.
If somone goes the route of samsung and starts to refuse microSD slots, **** them. Everything that is for the mainstream is for retards. Its nothing for a serious person .
The moment a serious Ubuntu phone comes, with decent specs, I would swtich immediately. I am through with these so called "mainstream" phones.
Z5 can't be the 820 if it's in September. Qualcomm roadmap says December for that chip's release.

Not to mention that it will have ZERO community support, ZERO customer support in case of faults.
I'm hoping and waiting with my finger crossed for September.
I just feel Sony will not disappoint this time.
If the real news is just the 4K screen, with SD810 etc etc, I'll just wait a little bit more until it gets in the hands of various sites/blogs, wait for their impressions.
When I bought the Ultra I went on and read every single hands on, review or article regarding it, and every single one, despite dragging it down on measures (too big to do this, to large to do that etc), every single one was impressed on how much a beast was this phone.
Now this is what I want for the next Ultra. To be a freaking Unicorn. I don't give a s#it if they sell one or one million, I'll be the first in line to get it. [emoji12]

5.7... ? 3600mAh... ? Fail.
6 inches could be fine IF Sony introduce a Z5 Tablet Compact with similar features. I have tried to fit the Z3 TC in my pockets and it works well so a device that size is a working backup plan if it would turn out that the next "Ultra" is a degradation of screen estate.
The next Ultra should have minimum a 6.44 inch display or up to 7 inch in order to qualify as a proper successor. A smaller 6 incher would be too much of a step back since it would require a lot of extra zooming when reading.
It would be great if Sony would make a keyboard flip cover as well and also further development of stylus support where they got on the right track with the "graphite pen" capable Ultra screen.
If the increased size of the device can be used to facilitate proper cooling of a Snapdragon 810, it could be an OK choice but if it turns out that the heating issues from the Z3+ is there, then it would be a huge drawback from the Ultra, which haven't overheated a single time during those two years I had it.

Why do you think it won't support US LTE?
I'm pretty sure there will be a US variant on this flagship series.
Nexus 6p user here. I was thinking about switching to op2 for a few reasons. I don't need a qhd screen and I'd like it a bit smaller. I don't use fingerprint sensor or NFC so that's good. Mainly want better battery life and was thinking op2 would do that because of screen pixels and smaller. Also I like the notification slider and it would have 64 GB compared to my 32 on 6p. Any opinions about this for you op2 users?

So far I haven't seen anyone with great battery life n the OnePlus two. I am currently running CM13 and usually end the day between 10-40% (yes, it varies that much). That is usually with average usage throughout the day. I would say that I usually end the day with just over 20% though. I usually get around 2-3 hours SOT. From what I've heard, the 6p gets a bit better than that, though I haven't personally used one, so I'll let you be the judge of that!
---------- Post added at 11:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 PM ----------
In my opinion, IF the OPT got better battery life than the 6p, it would be so slight that it wouldn't be worth giving up the amazing features of the 6p, though if you still want to switch, I'd be more than happy to trade you my OPT for your 6p!

From what I've heard, the 6p gets a bit better than that, though I haven't personally used one, so I'll let you be the judge of that!

i dunno where i read some op2 users getting 8hrs SOT i average about 5 to 5 1/2
What does better battery life mean? I think most of OPT users can go through the day without recharging, depending on usage obviously. Two days on modern smartphones, that is really rare, bordering with impossible.

That might be a first. Several OP2 owners are looking at the 6p.
IMHO, the OP2 is a decent - if underwhelming - mid-tier smartphone. The best parts are the price, screen, finger-print button, dual-SIMs and notification slider. The worst parts are the inconsistent OOS, customer service, and lack of NFC.
While I don't regret the purchase I'm not sure I'd buy another OP phone.

Mainly want better battery life and was thinking op2 would do that because of screen pixels and smaller. Also I like the notification slider and it would have 64 GB compared to my 32 on 6p. Any opinions about this for you op2 users?

Yeah idk battery life is pretty good, like any phone depends on the user. I have a OP2 and I'm looking to go to Nexus for the faster updates and Dev

I actually switched from an OP2 to a 6P about 3 weeks ago and all I can say is battery life (for me at least) is MUCH better on the 6P with the same usage and the same apps installed obviously.
BUT I never used a MM rom on the OP2 so I don't know how battery life is on MM (although I doubt it would be as good as on the 6P).
Also, I just got tired of waiting for Oneplus to release official MM. It's a joke really if you ask me that we are already in the middle of March, devices like the 2 year old HTC One M8 already got MM about a month ago (with optimised Sense UI on top of it I might add) and Oneplus still releases updates based on LP.
In my personal opinion you would regret it if you got the OP2 over the excellent N6P.
Hope this helps a bit [emoji4]

Never had the Z2 but if I had the chance to change my old HTC One M8 right now for the OP2 I would never do it.
Considering the fact that the Z2 and M8 are of the same generation I would urge you to wait for something better than the OP2.
But it all depends on what you expect out of a phone. In my experience the OP2 had worse software (overall everyday use performance was on par between the two phones), much worse speakers and almost equal battery life with the M8.
Just my personal opinion of course
I get surprisingly good battery life from my OPT I agree, I only get 3 to 3.5 hours of screen on time but my standby time is amazing. I usually don't charge it overnight and I will only lose around 2% in the 6 plus hours it is off the charger. I switched from a nexus 6 that couldn't get me nearly through the day and I usually go from 6 am to 10 pm and have 30 to 35% left while getting a ton of email and taking a lot of calls...but I do hate the lack of development...I am using one of the 2 MM hydrogen ROMs available and it works and performs well but lacks many comfort things at the moment.
Development will pick up soon. MM till the end of this month, cyanogen crew working on their software... I think we can be optimistic.

I hope so too....I loved the oneplus one and I think a lot of it was the strength of its development community. It felt like a Nexus. I never would have thought that Samsung would be providing better support.
Battery is not so bad at all...

In my knowledge (based on what I have read that is) Samsung and LG have great cameras. S6 and Note 5 were great at that. If you can't afford the S7s then the previous generation of Sammies might be your best bet. The 6P though also is a very decent choice.
Now I'm not an expert as far as cameras go but that's my 2c [emoji4]

I got the op2 and I'm really liking it. I like the size and enjoying the way it feels in my hand. Battery life isn't as good as my Nexus 6pbut the alert slider is nice. Also like the capacitive buttons and the camera is great too!
I am thinking of buying the Z5 Premium, do you think its worth getting at this point, and how is the Battery life under normal usage?
I just wanted general feedback from what you owners of the Premium think.
Thanks!!

if you are SONY fan and can compromise over some of the hardware v/s price features then YES, buying Z5p in December 2016 is still fruitful
- the device has amazing resolution, each pixel shines!
- already have 6 patches/updates by SONY and soon will goto Nougat (android N)
- LAST Flagship of Z series (started in 2012) (Z /ZL / Z1 / Z2 / Z3 / Z4 and finally Z5)
- Last flashship device that came out on LP android 5.1 , so you can root without unlocking bootloader and can extract DRM KEYS before updating to MM
It's a good fone. However Sony support and updates are woefully slow. I only just got the August security release. If you plan on rooting and have never done it on a Sony fone, good luck. It's not the easiest... Battery life is good but not as good as my Z2.

I was just about to ask the same question, when I saw this thread. I usually don't need any extra motivation when it comes to Xperia phones, as I'm in love with this brand since the day one.
However, it seems to me that there was never an Xperia phone so promising on paper, but being plagued with so many issues regarding hardware and/or software. So I have few questions that I hope you people with Z5's will know answer to.
First, regarding construction and build quality, is the back of this phone really made out of plastic and is it prone to scratches easily, like internet wants you to think?
Is that famous 3,5mm jack really so fragile, and is it the same across the whole production lifespan, like earliest models are exactly the same as latest production models?
Is there any real benefit with this 4K screen, besides watching the 4K video content, or are there some other situations when full 4K resolution is in action? And also, when it is, is the back panel really "cooking" hot like some people claim?
This beauty currently sells for about 420 euros in my country, so I'm really tempted to try it out.
Coming from the Note5 I was waiting for the Note7 battery issue to clear up. When they finally recalled it I came back to the Zed series. I am glad I did. My last Sony was the Z2 and I liked it enough but went back to the Note4 then the Note5. After only about a month with the Z5 Premium I do not think I will go back to the Note series. Do not get me wrong there are things I miss but I am thoroughly pleased with this device. I would not say that Sony is any slower than Samsung when it comes to updates. As for the build quality of the Z5 I do not think I could be happier. I am not sure about the comment of a plastic back as I put a protector on it immediately as well as a glass protector on the front and a Ringke case. Every thing I have seen says the back is glass. It boils down to how often you want to change devices. I would buy this phone again.

over the years i have purchased 5 Xperia phones and this is how i would rate z5p
1. hardware 8/10 - look, feel, shining everything stands out. the brightness of screen dims when fone is hot to protect processor
2. 4k works only on HD movies, othwise its regular 1080p
3 audio jack .. so far i never reached to the point where audio jack failing. but then i use it rarely since mostly i use bluetooth headphones

I agree with you! the STOCK ROMs of SONY are better than of samsung in terms of minimal bloatware and somewhat better ram management. there are better roms out there who efficiently keeps ram at lower end (oxygen of oneplus3) however the whole feeling of xperia stockrom is better.
I never bought samsung for myself but my sister uses galaxy mega. i know samsung's rom and the performance. I might never buy samsung
To add to what @yusuHamed wrote about the headphone jack, I use mine 5 days a week on my way to work. I've never had a problem with it. I use different headphones as well, changing them nearly every week. And to add to what @CodeNameRedNeck wrote, I've semi retired my SGS3. I loved that fone. I also have a Z2 which I use daily. Sony devices are good but expensive. My Z5P might be my last one. The jury is still out. If I had broken it a day after I bought it, rest assured I would have bought another one as a replacement immediately. Now, I'm not so sure even the XZ would be a replacement I'd want.

for many whom I chat / talked, they keep saying z5 will be their last SONY PHONE, and yes it will be my last sony Phone also! I don't know about others but for me
- I think over the years Sony is not pushing their devices in the market the way it should have been.
- this creates -ve impact
- Sony xperia buyers / lovers don't find Support, accessories easily and if they do , after so much of leg work and on high prices
- the manufacturers are focusing on mid range cost effective devices and the market is saturated with so many devices offering similar specs (and some time even more than sony's) on a very reasonable prices
- Boxing Packing of Xperia's are missing covers, protectors, book covers (high end). I believe if sony has Boxed Z5/ Z5p with 9H protector and atleast one Leather book case on such high price for the device, it would have made a huge different for user like me who is still wandering for quality accessories/protectors
- one more reason of what i think sony getting extinct from market is that GOOGLE NEVER adopted Xperia for any of its NEXUS series!! (accept Z ultra which was using Google's origina AOSP and Sony had to REDUCE their price after some conflict). Had there been Nexus 8 on XPERIA it would had boosted / help Xperia Alot!. The complain of SONY releasing STOCK ROM very late, atleast would have subsided for NEXUS Xperia!
Even though Sony makes exceptional devices, I do not think they are good enough at marketing them.
That's a phone that I had to pick from a limited range of phones which I could buy with a contract from my carier as installment is forbidden for phones in Turkey. And actually I was there for either a Huawei P9 or Xperia Z3+. I didn't even know a Z5 Premium existed as the shelves are full of Xperia "X" derivatives and I wasn't following the market since I had my hard times with my Xperia Z2, even though it was my best phone at the same time.
Still, looked at it's photo scores, laying one point under the Pixel phone with an 88 and bought it.
+ 1080/4K conversion is the cleverest thing ever! Do not be afraid of 1080p this much. You don't race your devices technology, instead focus on the screen quality and it is awesome. Also, being a device of Snapdragon 810 in a S820 era, 1080p gives it the necessary GPU advantage as the S820 rivals have fixed 2556*1440 screen.
+it also saves battery
+the material quality is superb. I jumped from Sony to LG G4, then Nexus 5 and now back again to Sony. It is great. Not a fan of glass back though, Z5 was better at that with a full aluminum body. I picked Premium just for a bigger screen for only 70$ more.
+so far the best music experience from my Android phones always came with Sony. This one is no exception.
+battery life is the best amongst my phones.
+I like Sony's Android implementation. They are slow on updates but stable, also the Woodward is light. That's the opposite on LG G4.
+The bootloader is unlockable and device is easily rootable.
+good headphones in the box
+I listen to music ever day, and never had any problems with the jack.
+camera has greater field of view than the other one on the market, that allows you to capture more area into the frame. With a Samsung, you would be taking the same photo from 10 steps further
+it is good that Sony got rid of flaps from USB ports.
-of your hands are wet or sweaty, fingerprint sensor probably won't work. That's bad for a water proof phone.
-Glass back is so 2012 matter of preference though..
-DRM backup thing requires a bit reading before jumping into the custom software world. Or there is no going back.
-Sonys are a little bit expensive in my country. This costed me nearly 1000$. For comparison; a brand new iPhone 6S 64gb is like 1350-1400$.
-the touch screen is extremely sensitive, so much that I can NOT write at full speed since it reads my two thumbs as one seriously! G4 was on a bit a heavy side when it came to touch sensitivity, thus one recognizes my finger almost before I make contact with the screen..
-never had a chance to try another one but the with-came headphones are low on volume, even though the sound clearness is %100
-it may get hot on the glass panel.
-in a regular room temperature, after 55 min of full HD video it gave me an error saying the device was too hot and needed to get cool for a little time.
-not that I see it a con, but the front camera is a low mp for today's standards..
-I just can't seem to get used to the Album app, I prefer Google's Photos instead.
-back in the days, there was this team called Free Xperia. They were always one step ahead when it came to custom ROMs and kernels on Sony devices, also worked side by side with Cyanogen Team. However, nowadays Xperia Z devices lag behind other devices on especially Custom ROMs. I didn't know that when I was buying the device but was sure I would be able to unlock the bootloader. So it kind of was disappointing for me.. I have to make do with the original ROM for now I guess.. That's a big negative for me.
-the accessory side of Sony is so weak. At least here, don't about the rest of the world.
These are my observations. Hope helps. Which devices I would trade my Z5 Premium?
1)Nexus 6P (not officially in Turkey's market, slightly cheaper).I believe Pixel is something in the history we all will try to forget.. So best Nexus is the best phone on the world.
2) Oneplus 3. That one is great, and the price is great too. But couldn't find it on Turkey. (found it in one store, without a certain origin and the guy tried to sell me at 800$)
3) HTC 10. Noo, not me. Some may like it but I can't trust HTC after One X fiasco..
4) Xperia X seems nicer and thinner. If only I could accept a smaller screen..
That's all.
I don't know, I'm still undecided between this phone and Huawei P9, which sells for about 30 euros less right now. Another phone with Sony IMX 286 sensors and another one which "miraculously" manages to produce great looking photos out of Sony sensors. :/
I still think it is a crime what Sony is doing with its own phones regarding cameras and post-processing algorithms, and seeing what other phones with Sony sensors are capable of, but that's another story not related to this topic. When you think about it, almost all of Sony flagship phones in Android era were plagued with issues this or that kind, and again I end up buying most of them. It's probably going to be the case this time again. I have to be honest and say that with Nexus 6 and Nexus 6P especially, I had great experiences, but after each of these phones I returned to Xperias again, solely for my love for Sony. I'm getting a little bit tired of "unfinished" flagships one after another to be honest, but there is still some passion left in me for Xperia phones so I guess I will give this phone a chance, maybe one last time after 6 years of unconditional love for this brand.

the race against time value, money and fair trade has never been so tighter before for xperias! as you mentioned the "unfinished flagships" is still the case even now with sony xperias where so many other flagship devices are offering so much more for competitive prices, boxing honestly to delight end users and enriching their experience by rich after sale support! its not just one area sony xperias are getting beaten up! its almost every ground, marketing, branding, hardware, pricing, after sale support, replacements, slow updates!
but then agian! as a die hard xperia fan! after z5p, i will buy next xperia somewhere in 2018. By then perhaps 5g will be out and my country will have VOLTE and sony may be giving 6gb ram with snapdragon821 processor, 64gb inbuild, 256gb sdcard, awsome android with switch between nav bar and or touch bar (like oneplus3). BOX containing screen guards and leather book cover .... and ROOTING option in DEVELOPER OPTIONS (like CYNOGENMOD ROMS).............
AM i imagining too much ?
I don't know what to do, literally. :/ I want this phone so much, and yet at the same time, I'm listening to music so much, that idea of audio jack failure in short time is driving me crazy. I guess I will have to choose between X, regular Z5 and Huawei P9 or even Mate 8 (although I find EMUI terribly ugly and unpractical).

Care to elaborate this in few words? Why disaster? I can't seem to find any disastrous failure with this phone beside that headphone jack issue. At least reading the web doesn't reveal any additional disaster.

It's mostly how most carriers in North America locked down the bootloader, meaning there was zero way for most of us to root the phone unless we bought it straight from Sony. Without root, the phone looks great on paper but there's so much untapped potential going on that it's ridiculous.
Not sure how things operate over in Sarajevo, but there's a "phone number" you slap into the dialer to bring you to a status menu of sorts that indicates if the phone's bootloader is locked or unlocked. If it's unlocked, I'd say it'd be an amazing piece of tech. But without being able to root it (as a power user) it feels like having a Ferrari that you can't drive more than 10km/h in - looks great, but it's all just looks. I can go more into detail via PM if you want to know more. I'm just salty and felt like I got burned by a company that's supposed to embrace the dev community.
Have you tried this?
http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Edit: never mind I see what you are saying.
I move from Samsung to Sony after having issues with Samsung phones and bough the Z5 premium as wanted high def music and 4k feature and to be honest I LOVE the phone I recently rooted the device which was a complete hassle and I wish i hadnt done it but that aside the phone is great, battery life is pretty good and when viewing photos it automatically goes into 4k mode which is just awesome, i listen to high def music alot and got rid of my FIIO E17 as the phone does a good enough job

Your complaint should be addressed to your carrier...Sony sells phones with unlockable bootloaders, carriers force them to completely lock it down...
And nowadays in the US at least, carriers don't even subsidise phones any more, so might as well buy straight from the source and no more bootloader worries...
You know what, I just bought this one, so I guess that's it when it comes to my opinion is it worth bying or not. And wow, the package itself is amazing, as well as contents inside. Free screen protector, UHC10 quick charger, MH750 headset... Seems quite premium if you ask me, because somebody earlier mentioned how the package seem a bit poor compared to rivals.
