Moto X Style - Sim card stopped working after 15 minutes - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Yesterday I have purchased Moto X Style. My sim card was a micro and it must be converted to nano. I have gave my number and friend cut it with a special tool which has been created for this purpose. I have put it inside the sim card slot and it worked normally. But, after 15 minutes it has stopped working unexpectedly. It shows that "No Sim Card". I have tried to put card out and in again and again... But nothing helps

Get a new SIM from your carrier, cut SIMs are just asking for trouble... Even though the tool is intended for this purpose (I have one right next to me actually) and work probably 80% of the time, 1 in 5 fail as you describe. The best I can assume is the stress on the material weakens the components inside and they become unusable in a short period of time.

SIM card issue... any advice?

I'm not sure if this is a common issue or just an issue with my sim card.
Looks like the sim card just stopped working this morning. I can't make/receive any calls or texts and the lock screen says "Please insert SIM card and restart".
I've restarted about 3 times now and have tried removing and reinserting the sim card, with no luck.
I figure I'll need to take it into a T-Mobile shop to get a new sim card, but my Vibrant has been rooted and has a the Obsidian Froyo rom installed.
Should I just plug the SIM into my old blackberry and take it in that way for replacement?
Or is this some known issue that can be easily fixed?

I have had this happen to me twice. Once, the SIM went bad (it happens).
I called TMO told them that it's not working & they said they'd get me a new SIM. I had the option of going to an authorized TMO store or getting it mailed to me. I went to a store, they installed & it off I went.
The other time, I took some rubbing alcohol and a QTip to it & cleaned it up, let it dry, put it back in & it's been working for a little over a week now
So, I'd try giving it a cleaning first and if that doesn't work, give TMO a call.
If they don't know that you have the Vibrant and think you still have a BB, then yeah, I'd put it back in that rather than bringing in the Vibrant if you have to go to the store. It's just easier when the person helping you isn't trying to force you to change your plan at the same time.
Question: The phone won't let you do anything without a SIM card? If that's true, that's just another reason to be glad I SIM unlocked my phone....that would get annoying!
Old Tmobile sim cards actually have a certain amount of times they can connect to the network tower. If you use airplane mode a lot it you may reach this point quickly.
And some sims cards just go bad. Which I think is the case with yours tjhart85. Take the phone and card to Tmobile. Tmobile will change the sim card for free.
Yup, turned out the sim card just went bad. Called up T-Mobile customer service, they put a not on my acount, and went into my local T-Mobile store and got a new sim card. Phones working great now. They didn't even ask for the old one and didn't have to look at my phone.
Thanks guys!

[Q] Oh god, my sim card is stuck on sim slot.

Hi dear,
I just bought my Omnia 7 last Wed(actually, made a payment 2 weeks ago but just arrived) and I'm so pleased to use it as I used to use Samsung Focus(but it has problem on a sim slot).
However, there was one problem in my device since the first day. It's actually my fault and the device is working really well, but my sim(I used to use iPhone so my sim is micro size) is stuck in the sim slot.
I thought the sim slot was same as the one in Focus but it wasn't. Thus, I even can't see where it is in the Sim slot but fortunately, it's working well.
Anyone has the same problem as me??
Or anyone can help me out?
i think it is easily sorted but you have to open up the device.
follow the instructions in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820799
you dont have to worry about anything..very straightforward.
Thank you so much!
I will follow the instruction then!
Same thing happened to me!! I had a micro sim bought an adapter off ebay when fitted it in it said Invalid sim or no sim! well to cut a long story short I opened up phone and it had bent all the contacts some off the ends had even broke off!!! Really guys don't go for the adapter you will be sorry!

Nexus 4 - SIM problem

Hello,
I just got a Nexus 4 16GB (had a 8GB before) and I've to reenter my PIN code almost every time I'm unlocking the phone when it has been in deep sleep. (the card is locked and the phone is disconnected from the network)
I first thought it's caused by custom ROMs, but it's even happening on stock ROM/kernel...
Am I the only one with that kind of problem ?
If you get the sim pin wrong a couple of times, the card is locked and you need to call your provider for a personal unlock code.
If you keep trying to unlock it eventually the sim will simply become inoperable and you'll need a new one.
I can unlock it without a problem after entering my correct pin.
So it is not a problem with the SIM or my provider.
Go into Settings > security and then there should be an option along the lines of Sim card lock. Try checking in there.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Disabled the pin lock for now.. But the signal still drops when the phone is longer in deep sleep.
I had the same problem!
I don't know if this is rom or kernel related, but since I switched to ParanoidAndroid it's gone....
Ah finally someone with the same problem.
I've already been running PA, but the problem did still exist.
Did you change anything else beside that?
i removed my SIM again and cleaned it.
i've also had that issue the second day after receiving the phone. I removed the sim, put it back in but that didn't help - i looked at my sim card tray and i realized that a one side of the sim card chip was close to one metal side of the tray and i figured that could be the issue - so what i did is i took a stripe of adhesive tape and made sure they wouldn't touch - I haven't had the issue again and it's been more than 2 weeks.
Uh...I remember a kernel arg from my old HTC Topaz WiMo-Device, which was able to run XDAndroid.
The argument was pm.sleep_mode, and it is still available on the Nexus 4 and set in the system/build.prop
It controls, how the device handles locking, usually it is set to 1, but, i think, it goes from 5 to 0, where 5 is "stay on all the time" and 0 is "shut down everything when locked".
You could try to swich it to 2 or 3, maybe it helps.
I got a replacement phone which is working fine now.
Thanks for the tips anyway
hmm got a 16gb one and the Sim keeps disconnecting even without deep sleep.
might need to send it back too. poop
Hi,
I got the same problem too.
Sometime, it's getting worse and worse so I have no other choice but to reboot the phone --> When I put my PIN code and press the validation button, the screen doesn't go to the main menu but asks me again about my PIN code. Infinite loop...
I cleaned the SIM card 15min ago and no problem since (fingers crossed). I read an alternative version of android solved the issue in one case but not always. I won't take that risk if I have to send it back to the manufacturer. Before I do that, could you suggest me something else to try ?
Many thanks for your help.
Best,
Valentin
I had the Nexus 4 since December and yesterday for the first time the phone asked for the PIN code and lost the connection to the network. And like posytryon I had to enter the PIN more than once (in my case it was "only" twice). This morning it already happened twice again. Never rooted the phone, stock Android on it. What is going on?
Why are you people so paranoid? I've never used a lock on mine. In all these years....
Just asking for trouble using sim lock IMO.
What kind of silly reply is that? Why is it asking for trouble using SIM lock??? And if you read through this thread, someone had the same problem of the phone not connecting anymore even without SIM lock.
I pulled my sim yesterday because I switched users now it says no sim I put old sim in same problem flashed new rom nothing...

I'd noticed the same thing, and insulating the SIM from the holder resolved the problem for me also.
I also found an app for monitoring and alerting if the phone switched back to asking for the SIM PIN, this might be useful for others.
SIM Locked Notifier - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.slaytanic.SIMLockedRingNotifier
Finally put some adhesive between the tray and the SIM card. Worked perfectly for me too, no SIM problem for 10 days now.
Thank you so much, Lucker#1.

"no sim card" after reboot?

I just got an Axon 7, and everything seems to be working well. But I set up the "scheduled power on/off" option to shutdown at 3AM and reboot at 5AM, and so far (2 days), the phone has been showing "no sim card" every morning. The first day, a manual reboot detected the sim card. Today, it didn't. After powering down and reseating the sim card, it was detected, but I don't know whether the reboot did the trick or the reseating.
Anyway, does this sound like a hardware or software issue? Anybody else having it?
Happened again this morning. A manual reboot brought it back again. I'm going to disable the 'scheduled reboot' option and see if that 'fixes' it. But it doesn't seem to be a hardware thing, since most of the time, a manual reboot detects the sim. Could it just be done dodgy timing issue in the boot sequence. I'm running the latest B27 US build.

Okay, it's failing hard now. 4 reboots in a row with "no sim card". So I tried the card in my old phone - not detected there either. Can a phone fry a SIM card - because it looks like that's happened.

LG G3 here - half the time after a reboot, it gives me the same SIM card error. After which of course i need to reboot it several times before it will recognize the sim card again.
This looks like a hardware fault, probably a bent pin in the card reader, so i carefully cut off the cover of the reader slot with a dremel + small cutting disc, being very careful to leave the sides of the cover to hold the card in place while it's in - it doesn't seem to be the case, everything looks fine, and from the markings left on the sim card by the pins as you remove/insert it, looks like all the pins are contacting the points on the card itself.
Also very weird that it ONLY happens right after rebooting. The most probable scenario i can think of, is that the card is read on bootup, and not interacted with again during normal usage of the phone...? or maybe a glitch with timestamps? A few times, restoring the backup of EFS partitions "seemed" to fix the problem, but :/
so.... WTF??!?!??!?
Was it a used or new Axon 7?
If used, someone may have had an SD in with the SIM and damaged it.
I was running mine that way but was careful and it survived ok.
Have you tried the SIM in both positions as 1 or 2?
Also ensure it has a correct APN saved against that SIM.
UPDATE: (LG G3) Seems it's a software bug after all. I updated to a newer version of LineageOS, and out of 6 times i just rebooted to test, the "no sim card" problem occured once. So maybe it's not 100% solved, but at least i don't have to futz around for 30-40 minutes to get my phone working again after a reboot.

I have an issue with my fiancée s8 plus

My fiancée s8 plus her SIM card got stuck in side the window card hole she used a pin to get it out in the process she tells me her SIM card tray got bent and the SIM card won’t read at all.
She took it to sprint they said it’s broken the unit and they did zero trouble shooting.
Before I order her a new SIM card tray to see if it works what can be done ?
Is the SIM card tray the problem ?

I've had all kinds of issues with the Sim tray on this device. I've replace mine several times. If it's needed up there's a chance. But no one can say yes or no without physically trying what your doing.
