SIM card issue... any advice? - Vibrant General

I'm not sure if this is a common issue or just an issue with my sim card.
Looks like the sim card just stopped working this morning. I can't make/receive any calls or texts and the lock screen says "Please insert SIM card and restart".
I've restarted about 3 times now and have tried removing and reinserting the sim card, with no luck.
I figure I'll need to take it into a T-Mobile shop to get a new sim card, but my Vibrant has been rooted and has a the Obsidian Froyo rom installed.
Should I just plug the SIM into my old blackberry and take it in that way for replacement?
Or is this some known issue that can be easily fixed?

I have had this happen to me twice. Once, the SIM went bad (it happens).
I called TMO told them that it's not working & they said they'd get me a new SIM. I had the option of going to an authorized TMO store or getting it mailed to me. I went to a store, they installed & it off I went.
The other time, I took some rubbing alcohol and a QTip to it & cleaned it up, let it dry, put it back in & it's been working for a little over a week now
So, I'd try giving it a cleaning first and if that doesn't work, give TMO a call.
If they don't know that you have the Vibrant and think you still have a BB, then yeah, I'd put it back in that rather than bringing in the Vibrant if you have to go to the store. It's just easier when the person helping you isn't trying to force you to change your plan at the same time.
Question: The phone won't let you do anything without a SIM card? If that's true, that's just another reason to be glad I SIM unlocked my phone....that would get annoying!

Old Tmobile sim cards actually have a certain amount of times they can connect to the network tower. If you use airplane mode a lot it you may reach this point quickly.
And some sims cards just go bad. Which I think is the case with yours tjhart85. Take the phone and card to Tmobile. Tmobile will change the sim card for free.

Yup, turned out the sim card just went bad. Called up T-Mobile customer service, they put a not on my acount, and went into my local T-Mobile store and got a new sim card. Phones working great now. They didn't even ask for the old one and didn't have to look at my phone.
Thanks guys!

8525 doesn't recognize SIM card anymore

My unlocked 8525 quit recognizing my SIM card this morning. It says "SIM card is missing, You can still makle emergency calls if your service provider supports it." The SIM card works in other phones, so it's not the card.
Is there any way to make it recognize my SIM card again? What went wrong?

Also..
I noticed that when I slipped the SIM into it's place, it kind of bends up a little. I didn't think much of it, and figured I hadn't noticed it before, but I got to thinking...so I tried putting it in again, and then the battery, and I sort of squeezed it together to compress the SIM down and then started the phone. It worked! I had a signal, and I called my home phone to confirm. And then as soon as I let go of the pressure it died again.
After looking at the space that the SIM card fits into, I couldn't see anything that would make it bend up like that.
Any help???
Post some pics if you can, many eyes might see something that one set may not.... also you could pm Mike Channon and see if he has any ideas, but without seeing, my guess is as good as yours (and Mikes is as good as everyones combined). Cheers...

X10 doesn't start (SD card or SIM failure)

Hello,
I have one issue with my X10: It was not starting, after removing the battery and waiting some time it started again but than at a moment was dead again. I went to the service center, they checked it and when I got it back it was working. After inserting SIM card and SD card (I gave it to the service without SD card) it died again. Went back to the service, they said is OK, got it back and it's still dead when inserting the SIM card. I am wondering if in the service they tested it with SIM card. I am already fed-up with this issue, I had the phone away in service for 2 weeks now. Ho can I convince them that my phone is dead and they need to replace it (it is still under warranty)? I tried even at home to re install the software with SEUS/Emma and stil the same, it doesn't start with SIM card in it.
Any suggestions welcome...

Have you tried starting it without SD card?
If it still fails to boot you should try another sim. If you don't have one go to the shop of your service provider and ask if they want to test your phone there. With and without sim.
Sent from my SO-01C using XDA App
Tried all options. What is strange is that after a while (few hours) phone without SIM and SD card starts. I am checking with another SIM maybe the problem is because of the SIM.

I had a issue where my SD got lightly scratched leaving it damaged.
My x10 would not start i replaced it with a newer one and bam problem solved.
Recommendations can insert the sim card to see another family, SD card can take a look at other tests to see
If you still can not read, recommended direct repair, as is still under warranty
I have met a SIM card chip can not read too ~ ~

Data is slow

So, I have a friend at work with an S5. She just switched over from the iPhone and I so want her to love android but she has emailed, called me about 3x a week to fix problems with it. She is not getting anything to load right. I took a look at it today and I think there is something wrong with her sim card slot but I want to be sure.
Neither of her gmail accounts will sync. It says something is wrong with sync but it will be back shortly. I tried her sim card in my phone and added her accounts......fine. ( I have an S4). I loaded my sim card in her phone and still nothing. Won't sync, Facebook won't connect. Nothing. Her sim works fine in my phone, and neither are syncing in hers. The slot itself is different from the S4. The s4 slot is spring loaded so you just push on the sim and it pops out. Hers the sim just slides in. I had to use a paper clip to get it back out. I'm thinking this is wrong. Shouldn't it be spring loaded? Shouldn't you be able to get the sim out easily? I advised her to ask for a replacement phone.

Sounds like a replacement device is in order, and while at it, why not a replacement SIM just to put the icing on the cake.

SGH i337M suddenly doesn't read SIM and has no popups.

So I recently sold my SGH i337m and the customer has been messaging me telling me that absolutely nothing happens when he inserts his SIM card. No popup saying no sim detected, nothing. When he goes to settings > more networks > mobile networks there's a pop-up that asks him to "insert sim card", and that's about it.
I know for a fact I sold him the phone WORKING as I made sure multiple times to test the phone with my SIM card and everything worked before I sold it to him.
I've been troubleshooting with him but unfortunately I have not come to a solution yet.
Things I have tried:
Remove battery & SIM then put back in
Reboot in safe mode
Wipe cache in recovery mode menu
Wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode menu
Insert another person's SIM (still no pop up, even when he uses a SIM from a locked company, it doesn't even ask for the unlock pin)
I'm hoping some of you guys have a solution because I've been looking all over the internet and no solutions have worked thus far.
Thanks in advance!
Hardware failure. The SIM card tray needs to be replaced. The part is inexpensive ($10), and it's easy to replace, so long as the person doing the work remembers to remove the foam pad on the original tray and place it on the new one.

Hey, I contacted a local shop about repairing the sim card tray and they told me it would cost $90 and that it was a 50/50 chance that it would work and is very risky due to having to "replace the I/C on the motherboard". I looked up SIM card trays online and the piece is $5. Are these guys bull****ting me? Could I replace the sim card tray myself with ease? I'm kind of confused. Thanks in advance.
Shortly after I had gotten my S4, the phone suddenly lost the ability to read a SIM card for this very reason. After purchasing a SIM tray off Amazon, I took the back off the S4 and swapped trays. The nice thing about the S4 is that it's easy to get into with a screwdriver. The place wanting to charge you $90 is charging for labor. Not bulls#!^, but pricey when you can do it yourself. I did it, at a cost of about $10 and 15 minutes of my time, and so can you.

Indeed its bullcrarp to charge so much. Do it yourself, order from Amazon or wherever it is fastest to you. China to US can be couple of weeks atleast.. takes 10 min max.

No Sim Card

Hi everyone,
Yesterday my phone stoped to recognise the sim-card.
At first i got a message with sim-card problem and the phone need to be restarted.
After that sim worked a day and now i cant use any sim in this phone. I tried it with 4 cards.
I've tried new roms , and paper on sim-card reader. Still "no sim card"!
Is it possible to repair it or is it Motherboard problem?
Thanks.
Have it checked in a authorised Samsung Service Centre mate. I had that problem twice in one day few days back, but since then its running fine! I was really scared, thought I would have to visit SC, but it went away on its own! I don't think Motherboard needs to be changed, only the SIM slot if its damaged.

Thanks for your answer. My phone doesn't recognise any card now. Since 2 days. I don't think it can go away on its own
Got the same problem. Probably your sim card slot got some loose like mine. I put a little piece of paper into it on the back of sim card. It caused that my sim card was inserted tighter into slot and it is working again.
It occured that it was the sim card problem. I had it again but it was strange because it worked on my sony xperia sp. But my note 4 didnt see it. I checked other sim card and it work flawless
