8525 doesn't recognize SIM card anymore - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

My unlocked 8525 quit recognizing my SIM card this morning. It says "SIM card is missing, You can still makle emergency calls if your service provider supports it." The SIM card works in other phones, so it's not the card.
Is there any way to make it recognize my SIM card again? What went wrong?

Also..
I noticed that when I slipped the SIM into it's place, it kind of bends up a little. I didn't think much of it, and figured I hadn't noticed it before, but I got to thinking...so I tried putting it in again, and then the battery, and I sort of squeezed it together to compress the SIM down and then started the phone. It worked! I had a signal, and I called my home phone to confirm. And then as soon as I let go of the pressure it died again.
After looking at the space that the SIM card fits into, I couldn't see anything that would make it bend up like that.
Any help???

Post some pics if you can, many eyes might see something that one set may not.... also you could pm Mike Channon and see if he has any ideas, but without seeing, my guess is as good as yours (and Mikes is as good as everyones combined). Cheers...

SIM card not inserted - anyone else had this problem?

Hi all,
Just got home, looked at my mobile and it said there was no signal - so I turned it off and back on again, then it said there was no SIM inserted. Keep restarting the phone, keeps saying the same thing. Why?!
Am going to try it in my old SE K850i to see if it's the SIM card or the phone at fault.
In the mean time, does anyone else know of this fault and how to fix..?
I didn't the drop the phone or anything, it was just in my pocket, on it's own - like it always is!
Cheers
Tried it in my K850, works fine. Please someone help
yeah i usually dont put the sim card all the way in but slightly in and it works
I've re-opened this thread due to me misreading....DOH! Apologies (Mental note to one self.......follow own advice and read before posting).

you could try to clean the contacts on the sim card connector of the phone with a q-tip, and see if that solves the problem.
also check if any of those contacts appears to be bent or something, and so doesn't make a connection with the card.
Everytime I open the back up to remove the SD card, I get the SIM card missing bit even though I have not touched it! My HD is only 3 months old and it has done this from the start. I just have to remove it a bit - shove it back in and the phone accepts it is there. Annoying but not enough for me to send it back.
hmm, maybe try to make the sim a bit thicker so it doesnt move around (it shouldn't move by removing the back cover, but it seems to happen on your phone / sim combination.
try putting a thin piece of paper on top of the sim (not the contacts side, but the side facing to the battery cover)
maybe that prevents this problem?
Missing simcard
I have the same problem with my simcard. Though something strange happens when the phone is off for more then 10min, it works fine and notices there is a simcard for like 30 sec after which the error pops-up again. I have tried all of the above things, my simcard works fine in my other phone, adding some paper to thicken it doesn't work either
Anyone who could help me with this?
P.S. sorry for the bad english
As in post 7# written, put some papersheet in the simholder above your simcard to increase the contactpreasure. This surely helps.
Tis trick is also useful for all dualsim users who thik the dualsimadapter does not work in their device (but after using this trick get astonished!)
for Thysiey:
Try to switch to Gsm mode to test . Maybe you have bad umts signal? Happens at other places too, or only at one place?
Got the same issue here...
I cannot move the SIM because it is being hold in place by the battery. (to little room)
Adding a piece did not work either.
Anyone got another solution?
anyone? My mothers HD just got this problem now. She has a new phone and for the contract renewal she had to read the backside of the sim. The phone all of a sudden didn't recognizes the simcard anymore.. I tried a few other simcards but it won't read it anymore.
My plan was to sell the old phone but now it's almost worthless just a shame it is still a great phone to operate.. handy with the navigation and all

Inserting Sim Card

Hi There,
I'm new so apologies if this has been asked before, I did try a search but to no avail.
I received my HD2 yesterday and when trying to put a Sim Card in it is really really stiff, I managed to snap one in the process (thankfully Virgin are sending a new one out). I then tried with an old Vodafone one which I got in but it took a bit of force and even then the phone didn't recognise it, upon removal it seems to have scratched the simcard contacts fairly badly.
Am I being a complete idiot or do you think I have a problem with my HD2?
Many Thanks
Ben
possible problems could be
inserted the wrong orientation!
trying to insert into the SDcard slot!!!!
SIM card usually comes in a bigger card, maybe there is still some excess plastic on the edge of the sim when you removed it!
Possible that there is something jammed in the SIM slot!
Or maybe there is something wrong with your phone.
only thing id say is the cut off corner goes in last.every phone i've seen beforethe cut corner goes first, but im sure it won't be that cos of course we all read the manual cover to cover before putting the sim in....didn't we? hehe
Thanks for the replys. I am fairly renowned for not reading instruction manuals (like all men i guess!!) but for once I actually did.
Defo tried to put it in the right way but it just wouldn't go in, i've tried this morning again with an old disconnected sim card and it seems to have free'd up quite a bit, it still feels kind of grindy (apologies for the made up word) and nothing like inserting a sim card into any phone i've had in the past but i'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll be fine.
Just got to wait for the replacement virgin sim now which is annoying because i'm itching to get using it, it's a beautiful bit of kit.
If you are in any doubt, get the phone switched out for a replacement. If there is a fault with the SIM socket, then it may well reappear when you least want it in the future!
You are trying this with the battery removed aren't you? It can be done with battery in but it is a lot more difficult to get the SIM card properly under the locating lugs.
I've switched SIM cards a lot, and there is absolutely no problem- it is as smooth as you'd expect from a snug-fitting slot!
Hi Neil, thanks for the reply, yes i'm trying it with the battery out and it definately couldn't be described as smooth so I suspect there may well be a problem with it.
I shall give virgin a call and arrange for a replacement.
Thanks again for your help.
p.s This is an awesome forum, i've been studying it all week in anticipation of receiving my HD2 (first winmo phone), looks like i'll have to wait a little longer before I get to properly use it though
I would get it replaced!
would be epic, is he tries to put it in the sd card place
I do have my moments but not even I could do that!!

[Q] Problem inserting SIM in Galaxy Tab

Picked mine up Contract Free from PCWorld. On Wifi it works great. But, I have a really stupid problem with inserting a SIM in the device and getting it to stay in.
I have tried inserting both a giffgaff PAYG and a Three PayMonthly SIM (full size)following the directions in the booklet and watching a couple of YouTube videos.
With screen facing me, insert SIM with gold contacts facing down and cut out notch on lower left. If I hold the SIM card, the phone will reboot and I have network connectivity. However the SIM will not stay in place even with the slot cover in place it comes free. There is no reassuring click when I insert the SIM card, I have tried other ways of inserting the card, there is a click, the card is held in place but the phone does nort recognise a SIM has been inserted. So I'm pretty sure my method is correct.
Help, Im at the pointy of taking this one back. A quick search on XDA and google does not reveal any meaningful results.
Regards,
Mike
Cut out notch is on the top left...look at the picture on the SIM card slot...
I keep my finger nails short, and I found that I could not insert either the SIM card, or a micro-SD with my fingers. I needed to push down on both with a pen.
Hope this helps.
Dave
I did have this problem of the tab not recognising my simcard when I first inserted it. I was sure it was done correctly.
Try taking out the sim card and rubbing the chip with an eraser. Clean off the residue before inserting it back. You may still see no service after the phone has rebooted. Be patient n wait for a while more. The signal will come. This solved my problem. I hope it helped you too.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
pushing the SIM in with the tip of a pen has done the trick. I guess my fingers were just to fat!
Thanks
Mike
Nah, I had the same problem too and I have thin fingers, solved it by using a business card that was next to me
You just need to use your nails for these damn cards / slots, and mine are always too short to do the job.
Hmm
As I figured out today, it's obvious when the sim is in correctly, because it goes in much deeper and doesn't look anything like it might obstruct the closing of the "flap".
I had to use a long nail to get it in the correct way round (did it while the tab was on) and as soon as it was in the tab detected it and rebooted itself.

SIM card issue... any advice?

I'm not sure if this is a common issue or just an issue with my sim card.
Looks like the sim card just stopped working this morning. I can't make/receive any calls or texts and the lock screen says "Please insert SIM card and restart".
I've restarted about 3 times now and have tried removing and reinserting the sim card, with no luck.
I figure I'll need to take it into a T-Mobile shop to get a new sim card, but my Vibrant has been rooted and has a the Obsidian Froyo rom installed.
Should I just plug the SIM into my old blackberry and take it in that way for replacement?
Or is this some known issue that can be easily fixed?

I have had this happen to me twice. Once, the SIM went bad (it happens).
I called TMO told them that it's not working & they said they'd get me a new SIM. I had the option of going to an authorized TMO store or getting it mailed to me. I went to a store, they installed & it off I went.
The other time, I took some rubbing alcohol and a QTip to it & cleaned it up, let it dry, put it back in & it's been working for a little over a week now
So, I'd try giving it a cleaning first and if that doesn't work, give TMO a call.
If they don't know that you have the Vibrant and think you still have a BB, then yeah, I'd put it back in that rather than bringing in the Vibrant if you have to go to the store. It's just easier when the person helping you isn't trying to force you to change your plan at the same time.
Question: The phone won't let you do anything without a SIM card? If that's true, that's just another reason to be glad I SIM unlocked my phone....that would get annoying!
Old Tmobile sim cards actually have a certain amount of times they can connect to the network tower. If you use airplane mode a lot it you may reach this point quickly.
And some sims cards just go bad. Which I think is the case with yours tjhart85. Take the phone and card to Tmobile. Tmobile will change the sim card for free.
Yup, turned out the sim card just went bad. Called up T-Mobile customer service, they put a not on my acount, and went into my local T-Mobile store and got a new sim card. Phones working great now. They didn't even ask for the old one and didn't have to look at my phone.
Thanks guys!

Fixing no sim card detected and no service

Dears
Facing the problem of no service and no sim card detected on my v20 after a reboot or randomly ,i ve tried every thing and found out that the problem is coming from the sim card reader ,there is a space left between the sim card and the reader causing the problem ,the fix is to full the space with a small paper or something to force the sim card into the reader
I know this is a necro post, but I wanted to confirm that this DOES indeed work. I got a second hand V20 from eBay today and couldn't get the thing to recognize the SIM Verizon was giving me at all. Gotta go back tomorrow to have them activate it now that I know this trick works on this phone!!

I ended up sending the phone back for exchange, after a small 1" drop the SIM was dislodged and the adapter broke and got a new one which didn't have the issue, so I unfortunately don't have any pictures. The best way however to place it is to ensure that it is directly over the SIM card and goes into the slot with your SIM, it should be providing some pressure on the back of the SIM to push it into the slot firmly, but not bulge the MicroSD adapter's metal too much, if you've done that, a fall may just break your SIM reader.
