Hi everyone.
I got a Legend yesterday and since I needed to make some backups from my current phone I didn't put the SIM card right away on the Legend.
So I turned it on, did the First Time wizard, installed some apps, browsed the web, applied a system update (not to the operating system, I think it was a radio update or something) and when the backups on the other phone were finished, I slid the SIM card onto its bay, turned the phone on and it still reported that no SIM card was detected.
Restarted. Same thing.
Did a hard reset (factory reset). Same thing.
Am I looking at a defective phone? SIM card with problems? Anything else?
I didn't try any other cards, but will do as soon as I get home.
Thanks in advance.

Hey Mate,
This is a common problem, especially on Vodafone networks... I found this too, it's basically cause the SIM isn't as thick as it should be.
To solve it, rip a piece of paper up to be slightly larger than your SIM, and slide it into the slot before you put in your SIM. Then, pop in your SIM and you're away.
Make sure you leave a bit of the paper poking out so it doesn't get stuck in there.
Thanks owenw.
As silly as it might sound, when I got home I inserted another card from another carrier and it worked. Then I inserted mine and it started to work, so no need for the piece of paper, but very much appreciated.
Hey,
I keep getting this annoying message " NO SIM Card Inserted " and my trick is to turn the Airplane mode on/off for a couple of times so the SIM card is recognized again. But this is getting worse, I'm having this error the 4th time today and having to switch the airplane mode on/off for countless times before it works.
Anyone else having this problem?
Should I get my tab to service?
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100, Android 4.0.3 stock
Noboby having this issue?
I have it too. I think it's just the default message if there is no sim card inserted. When you put one in, it goes away. I don't really mind it. What I DO mind is a "--" symbol in the bottom notification bar. I used to be able to see the Weatherbug Temp or the Battery status percentage there, now I can't. Can't figure out how to get rid of it. (--)
Maybe I wasn't that clear, but I have an Orange sim in it.
Yesterday this problem with the sim was worst than ever so I'm going to Orange for a fix. Hoping that another sim will just do the trick.
i got a broken sim once after some rooting and flashing custom rom's
in my case it was clear the sim (because everithing worked well with an other sim)
and my sim was relay old (around 7 years). So try with another from a friend and you know. :good:
So it seems that I had a faulty sim and everything is ok since I got a new one. Problem solved.
Hello,
I just got a Nexus 4 16GB (had a 8GB before) and I've to reenter my PIN code almost every time I'm unlocking the phone when it has been in deep sleep. (the card is locked and the phone is disconnected from the network)
I first thought it's caused by custom ROMs, but it's even happening on stock ROM/kernel...
Am I the only one with that kind of problem ?
If you get the sim pin wrong a couple of times, the card is locked and you need to call your provider for a personal unlock code.
If you keep trying to unlock it eventually the sim will simply become inoperable and you'll need a new one.
I can unlock it without a problem after entering my correct pin.
So it is not a problem with the SIM or my provider.
Go into Settings > security and then there should be an option along the lines of Sim card lock. Try checking in there.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Disabled the pin lock for now.. But the signal still drops when the phone is longer in deep sleep.
I had the same problem!
I don't know if this is rom or kernel related, but since I switched to ParanoidAndroid it's gone....
Ah finally someone with the same problem.
I've already been running PA, but the problem did still exist.
Did you change anything else beside that?
i removed my SIM again and cleaned it.
i've also had that issue the second day after receiving the phone. I removed the sim, put it back in but that didn't help - i looked at my sim card tray and i realized that a one side of the sim card chip was close to one metal side of the tray and i figured that could be the issue - so what i did is i took a stripe of adhesive tape and made sure they wouldn't touch - I haven't had the issue again and it's been more than 2 weeks.
Uh...I remember a kernel arg from my old HTC Topaz WiMo-Device, which was able to run XDAndroid.
The argument was pm.sleep_mode, and it is still available on the Nexus 4 and set in the system/build.prop
It controls, how the device handles locking, usually it is set to 1, but, i think, it goes from 5 to 0, where 5 is "stay on all the time" and 0 is "shut down everything when locked".
You could try to swich it to 2 or 3, maybe it helps.
I got a replacement phone which is working fine now.
Thanks for the tips anyway
hmm got a 16gb one and the Sim keeps disconnecting even without deep sleep.
might need to send it back too. poop
Hi,
I got the same problem too.
Sometime, it's getting worse and worse so I have no other choice but to reboot the phone --> When I put my PIN code and press the validation button, the screen doesn't go to the main menu but asks me again about my PIN code. Infinite loop...
I cleaned the SIM card 15min ago and no problem since (fingers crossed). I read an alternative version of android solved the issue in one case but not always. I won't take that risk if I have to send it back to the manufacturer. Before I do that, could you suggest me something else to try ?
Many thanks for your help.
Best,
Valentin
I had the Nexus 4 since December and yesterday for the first time the phone asked for the PIN code and lost the connection to the network. And like posytryon I had to enter the PIN more than once (in my case it was "only" twice). This morning it already happened twice again. Never rooted the phone, stock Android on it. What is going on?
Why are you people so paranoid? I've never used a lock on mine. In all these years....
Just asking for trouble using sim lock IMO.
What kind of silly reply is that? Why is it asking for trouble using SIM lock??? And if you read through this thread, someone had the same problem of the phone not connecting anymore even without SIM lock.
I pulled my sim yesterday because I switched users now it says no sim I put old sim in same problem flashed new rom nothing...

I'd noticed the same thing, and insulating the SIM from the holder resolved the problem for me also.
I also found an app for monitoring and alerting if the phone switched back to asking for the SIM PIN, this might be useful for others.
SIM Locked Notifier - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.slaytanic.SIMLockedRingNotifier
Finally put some adhesive between the tray and the SIM card. Worked perfectly for me too, no SIM problem for 10 days now.
Thank you so much, Lucker#1.
Hello
A couple of days ago I took out my sim card, then tried to put back in, but couldn't because there was some resistance, so I applied a little bit of force and put the card back. The force was not that much, I don't think I broke any of the sim pins but seems like I did, because no matter what I do sim is not recognized.
How can I make sure there's a hardware problem without opening the phone?
Same problem here. It appears to be something rellated to the IMEI and now I'm trying to recover it using QPST.
V20 H918 10j (still on Nougat)
Here's when it happened:
We were going on a road trip so I shut the phone off, took out the SD card (64 gig Sandisk), then the sim card, put the SD card back in and closed up the phone. I did not turn the phone back on. Then put the sim card in my tablet so it would have data. That worked fine.
The next day, I want the sim card back in my phone, so I do the reverse. Boot up the phone and it does not see the SD card at all. I put the SD card in the tablet and the tablet sees it just fine. Back in the phone - no go. I try a couple reboots and nothing. Boot to TWRP, it doesn't see it.
I get home and dirty flash the rom (Ovrdrive). Still doesn't see the card. I try a couple other cards (32 and 64 gig sandisk) which work just fine in other devices and the computer and the phone either doesn't see the cards or it says they are corrupt. So I format a 32 gig card (I did it a couple times in both xfat and fat32), put it in the phone and the phone says it is corrupt and needs to be formatted. So I select format. The format box is immediately at 20% and then it crashes.
I tried using ES File Explorer on the phone to format it but still a no go. I re-flashed the kernel that I have been using for the last year, that didn't help either. I used contact cleaner spray and then even used a soft small paint brush to try and clean the contacts. Nothing.
I had not put any new apps or made any changes to the phone in over a month before this happened. So.... I think somehow the pins for the card somehow got damaged or just old and something just got bent or broken or tweeked. I have another V20 that got water damaged and I looked closely at the SD card pins and compared to the current phone. I can't see any difference.
I'm posting this in case anyone else has had this problem and 1. was able to resolve it or 2. replaced the sim reader and that fixed it. Sim readers on ebay are cheap, but they have to be soldered in. Something that small is beyond my skill level.
There is a thread for the G6 that talks about this same problem. No solution. Speculation about having the card reader replaced. One person did a complete factory reset twice and that didn't work. So I'm left to believe this is a hardware issue.
Cheers.
