See if this works. Go to settings, then advanced settings, battery manager and finnaly in protected apps, enable Nova Launcher and Tesla as protected apps, Include also the mail app that you're using it. Otherwise the battery manager will be closing the apps by the standard definitions.
I hope this has helped you.
What do you mean with mail app? I want notifications for missed calls There is no possibility to make phone calls app a protected app

Let me rectify. In advanced settings, battery manager and finnaly in protected apps, have you enabled Nova Launcher and Tesla as protected apps?

I'm using same NovaLauncher, Teslaunread doesnt worked.
Switched to this app - Notifyer Unread Count.
It creates a widget for any app with notifications, including missed calls, sms, and email apps. Get the paid version.

Yes, you're exactly right. As workaround for TeslaUnread, you can put the "contacts" icon in the place of "call", and then, edit the "contact" icon replacing it for the usual one: call.
TeslaUnread works, with "contacts", without any issue.

Sounds good but the problem is, if I want to see who had called me I first have to switch from contacts to phone calls.. did anybody try notifyer unread count app? It has very bad rating in playstore

That's the only downsize of this workaround, we got to switch from contacs to phone calls.
I tried notifyer unread, but the issue is that it creates widgets, That is, for each badge: missing call, email, facebook, and so on. About Teslaunread it seems that has some kind of issues with some apps and likely in marshmallow.
I've tested again and TeslaUnread missed call works on ExDialer but not on stock Dialler.
Can see in picture the two Dialers next to each other. Stock Dialler on the right without badge.
Versions:
Teslaunread: 5.0.6
Nova Launcher: 4.3
ExDialer: v195
Nofications Access must be enabled.
Have not tried on other dialer apps.

Great, because I recently installed ExDialer and Theme for ExDialer MIUI Dark, that fits perfectly on our device, so this is good news.

I just installed Omega and Nova launcher.
Everything is running great. But when I receive mails I don't get my badges for unreaded items. Same for texts, calls and whatsapp. I installed even TeslaUnread-plugin from Nova.
Does anyone know what I have to do, to make this work for my texts, calls, whatsapp and mails?
I hope I didn't erased an option to my badges by setting-up Omega
I've a SM-9005 European version.
This is my first android phone, right now it's giving me stress because I really want this option back.
I hope I don't have to backup and go thru all the proces again, after installing all my wanted apps and preference settings.
I hope you guys can help me

I forgot to add this, I've installed Tesla Unread afterwards. But it doesn't work at all for me?
After getting frustated I've uninstalled TeslaUnread.
Any other suggestions?
UPDATE: It's fixed guys, I downloaded a Nova launcher apk on the internet. I didn't know it was a illegal pro version. That's why my TeslaUnread didn't work. I've bought TestlaUnread pro now and TeslaUnread works great, totally worth the money!
For those of you that have migrated to Hangouts for SMS or some other 3rd party app and like to disable/freeze apps that come preinstalled on the phone. If you freeze/disable the default android messaging app you will loose the ability to have quick sms responses while receiving a phone call.
Figured I let you know.

I think you may have changed the default application for quick sms to the default messaging. And it;s still looking for that. Try this.
1. Unfreeze messaging app
2. Go to app info for messaging
3. Clear defaults
4. Try this with the phone app as well just in case.
5. Check to see it worked.
Since google want us to use hangouts as our main SMS app, why don't they lock it I'm the ram memory?
Even on art, opening hangouts takes about 3 seconds while the standard SMS app opens instantly.
Any fix for this or any idea why they don't cache it in the ram? Even in faster phones like the note 3 it requires a lot of startup time...

Sent from my obsolete Teletubby. I want a new model with no external antenna and a touch screen in 16:9.
Well if it's really a disaster for you use stock SMS or alternatives like Go SMS Pro or Handcet SMS. Try wiping data of the Hangouts app. It require some time because it has to load some info from interet.

It's not a problem, i dont use it as my main messaging app...
But it is strange that this happens considering they want it as the main SMS app... iMessage doesnt have that problem even on the 3gs.

You are right they do need to speed up the app if they want everyone to convert to it.
As in scroll recent list of messages? Sometimes I'll swipe away a notification and there's no way to bring it back up.. same with emails (not gmail, the actual mail app). As far as I know there's no way to bring it back.
Anyone know of a way or a 3rd party app?

Why would you want to open hangouts on the watch? it only shows you the latest hangout anyway..
basically i'm looking for a way to open recent notifications but what i would like is a way to open apps like hangouts or email, so even old messages can be opened and answered to.

In order for that to work you would have to bring back the notification on the phone. Not sure how you would do that...
I'd like to be able to open hangouts as well. I don't think you really need the notification back, you just want access to the messages. That'd be awesome.

If you use hangouts just for sms you can try wear messenger. You can see all your sms conversations there. If you use hangouts for, well, hangouts then there's no way to do that currently.

okay thanks. Yeah, I use it just for sms so I'll check that out.
Standard Touchwiz launcher on S8. The unread count badge for Whatsapp and Facebook shows up along with missed calls / text etc. but not for the google apps like Hangouts and Gmail. On my wife's Note 4, I had disabled the default messaging app to use Hangouts for text but somehow Hangouts on S8 seems crippled. Am I missing something simple? Thanks.
Could be bugged. Otherwise, Nova + TeslaUnread works great!
Is everyone facing this issue with the default launcher? Wonder if Samsung being hostile to non-music Google apps...
Just got my S8 today. All unread badge counters work well except for the gmail app so far. Havent noticed but i guess it doesnt work for the rest of the google apps.

Ok, so it's not just my wife's phone. Thanks. Maybe I should try Nova or Action - the default launcher on S8 is quite nice otherwise.

I have the same problem on my S8+
Didn't hangouts drop SMS recently. could be why.
Gmail not noticed. I get notifications straight away when email comes through. That's good enough for me.
Try an app called Rad Unread from the Play Store, this gave me a badge counter on my Gmail app on my standard S8 launcher.
