Hey guys, so yesterday I had to reflash to my stock g30v firmware on pe1. After being rooting since late june, Went by for a day and a half not noticing I wasn't receiving any sms messages. Tried to wipe cache, many reboots and many apps to no avail. Always showed "mobile network not available." Yet I still had 4g and was able to go on social media and my chrome browser. After I odin'd back to stock I received over 75 new sms messages. Stumped.
Want to re-root again but with my job, I can't risk having this happen again
Thanks in advance
Did you do a factory reset yet?
As stated in the first part of the op, die to this I had to reflash to stock, starting fresh. That's when I got a days and a half with of sms messages, everything is back to normal, but was wondering if anyone else had this issue. Want to re-root but can't if this is gonna happen again
What i've found after root is that i have to make a phone call after rebooting or i dont recieve calls/texts or have capability of sending texts untill i make a call yet Data still works..

Ok, so I like to write messages longer than 3 texts, so I have to use handcent. So I don't know whether it's an app problem or a phone problem.
Even when I try and send messages 1 text long they don't go through.
I can have full signal or at least 2/3 bars GPRS but they don't go through. Usually it happens on GPRS though.
Any ideas?
In fact, It's stopped sending them all together now ¬¬
And I have plenty of signal (2/3 bars GPRS [more than I usually have had when sending texts])
Edit: I keep receiving them, I just can't reply
things to try:
reboot, test
reinstall handcent, test
uninstall handcent and test with default app.
wipe phone (settings will be restored, and apps will be re-downloaded for you after you log in).
I've rebooted my phone before and the problem went away but now it's back. Thinking about it I probably just had 3g when it worked. It worked again when I briefly got 3G coverage and now i've sent all of my unsent messages it seems to be working again... for now.
The problem is I can't use the stock messaging app because of the annoying auto-mms conversion thing which hasn't been sorted so I had to use Handcent. I'd love to use the stock app and I actually prefer it apart from that one annoying issue.
This sounds a little like the problem with the HD2 on stock VF rom. Some say it helped to choose 2g only for sending messages (if that setting exists on the n1).
I dont have the N1 yet, so only guessing......
I've been having the same problem since the radio update, I'm seriously frustrated with this phone right now...
Haven't noticed this issue using the stock SMS app...
Easy fix, pick up the phone and talk if it's more than two sentences.
Not. A very helpful comment. Stfu.
I have same problem with even. One word texts. And since update. Reboot always fixes UT but annoying and shouldn't ever happen
Running full stock with update and using ChompSMS with no problems at all. I do seem to have the new 3g problem with the new radio ppl are having but turning on 2G only fixes the problem. Other wise no SMS problems at all here.
I have a Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 "MF9" and I made these modifications months ago:
CF-Auto-Rooted successfully
Hotspot installed by TWRP
Since I've made these modifications, I will lose 4G LTE connection intermittently while tethering and I must toggle on then off Airplane mode to get connectivity back. If anyone has any insight into how to prevent 4G LTE intermittent failure or how to diagnose it further, please share. However, this isn't a huge problem, although it may be related to it.
My huge problem and the purpose for creating this thread is:
Recently, since about Nov. 1, 2013, I do not receive texts (sms/mms) until I send a text. Then after I send a text, I will be able to receive texts for an undetermined amount of time (at least 14 minutes). Basically, I can hold a conversation over texts but I must initiate it first. Then when I initiate a conversation, I receive all of the texts that have been "in queue" since the last time I was able to receive texts. Furthermore, the timestamps of these "late" texts are not the times which they were sent but actually the times that I received the texts. So I cannot tell when these texts were sent from the people texting me.
I also do not receive calls but I can make calls. I do not receive any notifications that I've missed calls. Once again, after I make a call (and let's say I hang up), I can receive calls for an undetermined amount of time. Additionally, I receive "voice mail" notifications on time so that's the only way I know that I've missed a call.
Some additional details:
I have not installed anything new that may have caused this behavior.
I'm not sure if this behavior only happens when I'm tethering.
I haven't contacted Sprint yet since they usually only ever suggest restarting/resetting the phone, which I've done.
The "towers" have been getting "upgraded" around here, so this as the cause has been what I've been telling myself up until this point. However, my mom's phone does not exhibit this behavior.
From my understanding, SMS/MMS and calling are done over 3G CDMA. So I believe this is where I should start in diagnosing the source of my problem. However, I do not know how to troubleshoot 3G CDMA connectivity. If there was some way I could "send" data every 15 minutes to be able to "poll" the server for new messages, I would settle for this ghetto "solution."
I would greatly appreciate the help!
Was this post too long to read or overlooked somehow?
SMS is dome over 2g and MMS can be done over 3G/4G/WiFi .
I really don't know what to say for your problem. As I would say to update prl and profile first by using. ##72786# in the dialer. Do this over WiFi. And don't be scared your phone will reboot twice on its own. Of this doesn't work then I would say to factory reset and go back to MF9 stock unrooted and see if that helps.

Thank you for the ##72786# tip. I've got to wait a while (referring to the undetermined amount of time in my OP) to see if it works.
I intend to upgrade from MF9 to MJA today. Hopefully either updating my prl/profile or upgrading to MJA will fix my problem!

Update: the tip did not work and I haven't upgraded to MJA yet.
I updated to MJA and problems are fixed.
for the last 3-5 days i have not been able to send or receive any text. i can still make phone calls and surf the web (3g/LTE) but when i send a message it appears to go through as i do not get a fail to send error but no one has gotten any of my messages over the last two days and i have not gotten anything from anyone else either. I tried restarting multiple times and took out the battery/sim/SD card and restored a backup i had for a while back.I had liquid smooth and just factory wiped and went to cyanogenmod with no luck... i have a galaxy S4 and am with sprint. any help would be much appreciated.

The same thing happened to me today actually (well, it started yesterday). I realized I wasn't able to send/receive sms, but calls and data on 4g and 3g worked fine. I tried restoring a backup, flashing stock odin image, dialing ##72786# all to no avail.
So I took it to a sprint store, and the tech did all of the above and then some with the same results. What worked was replacing the SIM card. Bottom line, if you have the same issue as I did, that will be the only solution. They did the swap free of charge. You'll have to odin a stock image first before you take it in though.
To start, I'm on Android 7.0 using the September security patch and am rooted.
Never had an issue with this phone before. Ever since yesterday morning I have not been able to receive anyone's text messages. I'm not sure about MMS but I haven't gotten any of those either. The weird thing is that I can SEND texts just fine....and I can also send text messages to myself and they come through.
After digging and researching I accessed that hidden settings menu by typing *#*#4636#*#* into my dialer and looking at the SMSC number which should be for Tmobile, my provider, +12063130004. However, it's blank and I'm unable to change it. Hitting "update" gives me an "update error" in the field and if I hit refresh I get "+12063130004",145 with the quotes and the 145. If I hit update from there and reboot it's still blank. If I put in +12063130004 and reboot it's still blank.
I have data, I can make and receive calls and surf the web. So far I've tried switching sms apps to no avail. I'm currently using google messenger. I've tried removing the sim and placing it back in. I went in to TWRP wiped cache, dalvich cache and data and it did nothing. Finally I reverted to a nandroid I made about a month ago when sms was working fine and it's still not working.
I'm out of ideas fellas. At my wit's end here!
Oh, I should also let you know that I think this all started when my girlfriend sent me a text message that i received yesterday morning. It was the last text I was able to get......she's on a cruise so she sent it somewhere near mexico....I think it made my phone have a massive brain fart and I'm not sure how to fix this bug. Please help!!
No one? I've found nothing on the web..
This may sound obvious, but have you tried using a factory image to return to stock?
Sounds like you've done everything but that.
I suppose you could also try deleting your APN and manually entering a correct one for your carrier. That's helped me in the past on other devices when I've had weird data/service issues.
Funny you asked. I did a full wipe and returned to stock on the latest November build. Still a no go. People still get my texts and I can still use data/make and receive calls fine. I'll try the APN suggestion now.
As far as APN's go, I tried to reset them to default. I even tried deleting all of them except for the one I was using which in the past for other devices helped with certain issues. I then created a custom APN setting that I found on the 6p forum that helped other users with SMS/MMS issues....no help for me.
I can still send SMS,mms, make and receive phone calls. No idea what to do!!!
I have a similar but different issue. I can receive messages just fine. But sometimes when i send messages id say about 40% of the time my message gets stuck at the "sending" and it takes sometimes up to 10min for it to send. I can speed the process up if i go to the secret menu and toggle the radio off and on.
Im on ATT BTW. I thought it had something to do with ATT shutting down the 2G network and the phone getting confused as to which network to send messages on but im no expert its just a theroy.
PS. I had this problem pop out of nowhere. Had it start randomly on PN6 (last build) so i upgraded to PN7 same thing on 2 different versions of the ROM. And now im on SuperAx 7.1 and still have the issue.
Ive always had problems with Nexus's and messages. When i had the Nexus 5 i actually had to warranty it out because MMS all of a sudden would not work at all.
I received one text today from someone. That's it. Not getting all the missed sms messages and not getting any additional sms messages.
I have a rooted Nexus 6p. A few weeks ago I flashed the factory images of Android 8.0 Oreo to my 6p. Flashed TWRP and rooted with magisk. For about a week or so everything was fine...then approximately 72 hours ago I could no longer receive text messages from anyone. I can send texts just fine I just can't receive them. I have full bars of service with 4g LTE. I can surf the web, use Facebook and any other app requiring data. I can make and receive phone calls.
I've tried everything. Removed the sim, rebooted, checked APN settings, cleared cache, wipe data, tried various different SMS apps. I even wiped the device and reflashed Oreo via fastboot again. Nothing.
I called TMobile they have no idea what's wrong. I called Google and they were of no assistance.
I'm going to try and flash the last nougat factory images later from Google and see if that helps. Before I do that I wanted to see if anyone here could offer some suggestions I haven't already thought of.
Thanks!

I would go get a new SIM provisioned for your phone at TMo for free. Are you pre-paid or post-paid?
I was planning on it. However around 0930 this morning all of my missing text messages came flooding in. SMS seems to be working fine now. Would still love to know the trigger of this issue.

Cool. Likely a carrier/plan issue.
You didn't happen to have an Ad Blocker installed? I had the same issue on a different phone, and that was the culprit.

Yes. I use adaway and adguard. Never had an issue with them not allowing me to receive texts. I'm also running both right now and sms is working fine.
Did you restore messages with titanium backup? If so make sure you have switched messaging back to the default app. Had the same happen to me.

Well adaway definitely was blocking my SMS. As soon as I removed it and rebooted phone the msgs came flooding in.

Adaway is a host file fetcher. It has nothing to do with SMS and does not interfere with it. Try it again. It's the best one out there.
