opengl 3.2??? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys, i noticed that some s7 edge and note 7 exynos devices have opengl v3.2 graphics driver but here mine s7 edge (g935w8) have opengl v3.1?? I dont know why? Can you guys please confirm that is only me having the older version or all the other models have v3.1?
Thank You

I have opengl es v3.1 on antutu and my device is g935fd

The v3.2 came with the latest firmware update for the device (starting with B).
Just wait for the OTA or update to the latest firmware using ODIN.

The firmware update isn't just security update.
It did update the security to 01.08, but added few more features, including samsung cloud, new gallery app from note 7, and new mali GPU drivers, r12p1 (which support opengl v3.2).
If you have the exynos model, check this thread for more info:

Because what written on the changelog is what samsung officially wrote.
Just read the last 3-4 pages of this thread, you'll get the information.
By the way, Why is it so important to you?
I mean, why do you care about the support for V3.2?
The driver work better and get better benchmark scores, but I don't see any app that demand V3.2 for it to work.

Yes i saw that.....well i know that there's no app or any game requires opengl v3.2 but you will see the difference in the gpu benchmark definitely coz the note 7 exyonos (mali t880) having opengl v3.2 scores around 46000 in case of 3d benchmark but my s7 edge having open gl v 3.1 scores around 41000...so i think both the devices have same processor but different results in 3d benchmark.....Hence it concludes that gpu version may affect the overall benchmark score. Btw i dont get august update coz of ****in delay by bell in canada..so i will wait and test it in future whether there is an improvement in 3d benchmark score or not.

You have the Snapdragon version, right?
BTW, samsung DVFS make the actual gaming performance of this phone crap. Don't trust benchmark.
Without custom kernel (ImageBreaker), DVFS limits the cpu clock after few minutes of gameplay. Games that are more intensive, work really bad.
For exynos users like me, the only solution is ImageBreaker kernel, or set the governor to performance.

Who told you that nonsense?
It's the other way around...
Stock kernel is really bad gaming performance wise.
Just try to play NFS No Limits, Or tekken 6 using PPSSPP. The lag is horrible, from the first second.
That was the main reason for rooting my phone, and now I've discovered so many great features only available after rooting/replacing rom and kernel.
Believe me, you won't regret it. It's your call.

The CPU. That's what was lagging with the current froyo builds. The JIT compiler was optimized for QCOM chips, but not the Hummingbird processor. Looks like that's been sorted out.
Is that available only in the pro version (I don't get the colors just one solid bar)? What is green and how come Droix X kicks so much butt with it? Memory?

This was linked to the Vibrant section, and noticed the lower (smaller block) on 3D performance? Can anyone confirm?

the test breakdown is available in Quadrant Advanced. you can get it in the SlideME market.
and the green represent I/O which doesnt really contribute to a lot of performance... you will notice that people running OCLF will have quadrants score of 2k+ mainly due to i/o exploit
what's the linpack on it?
THIS IS EXACTLY what I have been waiting for! I have been one of the most vocal people about the Dalvik Jit Compiler not offering the Hummingbird the same performance gain that scorpions received, and it seems like Google definitely sorted this out. Totally just put new life into the Hummingbird. Google choosing the Samsung Galaxy S as being their new Nexus phone was the best thing that happened to Vibrant owners.
Thats just a little higher than my Vibrant with Voodoo Lagfix. Which means thats its either 'meh', or if its getting the result without being I/O lagfixed, then... 'WOW!'

The Nexus S doesn't use RFS, so there's no need for a lagfix in the same sense as the Galaxy S phones. However, Google did neglect to set one of the EXT4 mount options, so there is a Voodoo kernel now that shows significant improvement. They're getting around 2400 with the new kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876132
you can get the same thing on a SGS with the CM6.1beta
I played with one for a short time at Best Buy tonight. It is ridiculously fast. It loaded Angry Birds loaded and ready to play in the same time it took my phone (running Eugene's Ginger Clone 2.2 with the super I/O kernel) to bring up the loading screen. I understand the browser still has some of the same lag problems, but I didn't get to play with it long enough to see for myself.
If devs can port the 2.3 kernel to the Vibrant, then I'll stick with it because it will indeed gain what this phone can do, but If now then I think I'll get the Nexus S. The fact that Google took Samsung's hardware and made it sing like this and Samsung can't even manage a workable 2.2 yet has me seriously contemplating jumping ship. I don't think I'll sell the Vibrant though, the community and developers have been great and I want to see exactly how far they can push the phone, but it'd be nice to daily drive something you know is fully supported.

hey mannymal, I think you fail to see the point and significance of this. The total end score isn't what we are excited about, at least not me. The cpu score is what we are excited about, and you can only see the score breakdown in Quadrant Advanced or Quadrant Professional.
The dalvik jit compiler in froyo 2.2 was not giving the hummingbird the same CPU performance gain that was being achieved by the scorpion chips. Meaning that a crummy old first generation scorpion was outperforming the hummingbird in cpu tasks.
The significance of this thread and the quadrant photo, shows that Google appears to have hopefully sorted things out, and that the Hummingbird is now receiving a CPU performance gain that was being partially neglected in 2.2
I hope you realize the end score wasn't the focus, and that no matter how many lagfixes you apply, your cpu performance doesn't necessarily go up.
Is that all? Very low score! I was expecting better than this for a Nexus S ..

SGX 540: SGS vs LG Optimus 3d

I just read an article here: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4179/ti-omap4-and-lg-optimus-3d-tested
The LG Optimus 3d uses the same SGX 540 graphics that our SGS uses. BUT it is clocked at 300mhz vs our 200mhz AND it uses an updated driver. With these improvements, early benchmarks show it beats the tegra 2 and the quad-gpu in the SGS II. Of course these benchmarks don't tell the whole story, but I still find it interesting. I hope Samsung can make sure android can take advantage of the gpu in the SGS II.
Most PowerVR SGX 540 designs run the GPU core at up to 200MHz. OMAP 4's implementation is another 50% faster. LG's software build also uses a newer version of Imagination Technologies' driver (1.6 instead of 1.5) which fixes some rendering issues (specifically in the Egypt test) and improves performance considerably (likely between 10 - 30% in GLBenchmark2). You can see that the image quality issues are fixed in the video showing the Egypt demo running on the LG Optimus 3D below:

Taking the performance improvement due to the driver out of the equation, we're still looking at a nearly 20% increase in performance over the SGX 540 in Hummingbird. The 4430 holds a similar advantage over NVIDIA's Tegra 2.

Hey, I want this driver! Maybe, devs could be able to port it to SGS somehow.
By the way, GPU in Desire HD and Desire Z (adreno 205) beats SGS one in benchmarks and goes head-to-head with Tegra.

if it causes the same battery drain, i want that driver too...
Id love to see how the Sony NGP with ARM Cortex-A9 quad-core processor & SGX543MP4+ GPU stacks up....just for fun of course.
The SGX540 is indeed a very good GPU. Still not outdated, even at 200 MHz.

Unlikely when you mess with the gpu clock there's an increase in instability, as well as putting other devices out of sync. I believe omap4 is using a different nm process to fabricate it probably smaller than the galaxys so they can put the clock higher.
The driver upgrade is the only possibility.
I think Hummingbird (A8) and Omap4 (A9) are based on same 45 nm architecture.

Guys, look at that:
http://glbenchmark.com/subtest_results_of_device.jsp?D=Google+Nexus+S&id=405
There are 12 tests of Nexus S in GLBenchmark, and 11 of them are below 2400 points (more or less like our SGS), but the most recent one (uploaded at 2011.02.11) scored 3025 points, more than Tegra 2. This result's is made by someone from GLBenchmark, and shows at "GLBenchmark team tested" page of the results. How is that possible?
Just commenting to keep this going. I don't want to put my hopes up too much, but you never know
I'm beginning to believe that it was a bad move from Samsung to switch from PowerVR to the Mali-400. I have the money ready to spend on a new device and I hope it's the SGS2 but I will wait first for the final product and drivers and see some benchmarks before I buy. If the SGX540 keeps the lead maybe I'll stick with my SGS.
samsung got tegra 2 also for I9103 phone
but SGX543 was good a option
Samsung pr overhyped their processor capabilities. But I guess there not confident in there own soc. If they decided to make a tegra 2 version.

Funny
So to summarise:
HTC One Ice Storm: 11309
S4 Storm: 9552
HTC One Ice Storm: 6190
S4 Storm Extreme: 6127
A small victory, but seems to be a lot of leeway between these results, just ran this on my own One and got 10029 and 6626 results respectively, so alot lower then alot higher.
whatever it is this means the 554MP3 is not running at 533mhz due to power / thermals
please also means its not what is hyped to be and Adreno 320 is not to be taken lightly
Would love to see the test run again once the One is updated to 4.2.2 - these results have nowhere to go but up.

I expect the benchmarks to improve with 4.2 by a decent amount, maybe we'll see around 41 fps Egypt offscreen.
As usual, 3DMarks of any kind cannot be a standard test of anything of value.
I've got these scores from my Nexus 4 running stock 4.2.2. (Left is default and right is extreme)
Benchmarks like this are totally pointless for measuring performance. They might be fun, but they are so variable (even on the same device) that they are useless. They also have biases towards certain GPUs that do no reflect real world gaming.
All this test proves is that with current software 3Dmark for android runs better on the Adreno in the One than on the PowerVR in the S4, nothing else whatsoever. Since its not a game, who cares?
3DMark is really wierd. I ran it yestarday several times and the score varied from 9900 to 10800. The highest score I got was just after the restart of the device. 10800 in IceStorm and 6690 in Extreme. Still... it looks like the "The One" is on par with SIV when it comes to performance. Now its up HTC to make the software better. I mean its still far better than Samsung when it comes to bug count and stability but the camera, Zoe, Blinkfeed functionality should be extended. Come on HTC. You can do it...

Well, as a fun fact when I was playing Godfire on the M9 with my gamepad some friends asked me if I had a PS3 emulator or something. While I found that exaggerated, I'd say adreno 430 has indeed a great graphical capability, sadly there are very few games to explode its full potential
the M9 and its GPU is a gaming beast and its true that we dont have many games optimized for it, infact some old games like Riptide GP2 doesnt use it properly (you need to manually boost CPU governor)
but Modern combat 5 and Godfire are the best showcase so far

After the android 5.1 update, there was another firmware update which included a security fix for a known issue which was named stagefright
If you want more information about it, here's a good place to start

FYI it was Google play services
Need for speed no limits released, for some reason Firemonkeys botched it on Android, its running in low res and worse than the previous Need for speed, hoping for an update
btw i just downloaded the latest version of Modern Combat 5 Blackout, the performance is simply phenomenal

Was looking at that but i'm seriously dubious about downloading any "free to play" games, so long as you can complete the game in the intended time and you don't have advantages taken away from you, that fine, but when you are forced to buy i think they should just offer a paid version.
Or low and behold, a choice?!?!? wouldn't that be a turn up.
here is another game to test the beast:
Dead Effect 2

Re:
Stock firmware, performance mode, 64gb, 4gb ram, stock english/international rom.
nice score did some benches today on B162 international firmware, unfortunately i couldnt reach my previous high scores in geekbench (6560) and antutu (97200). maybe i could make a completely naked / debloated firmware version just for benching purposes, so as not to take up ANY ram or cpu cycles for background stuff
btw, looking at geekbench scores, the S7 seems to be on par if not only a tad faster (less than 100 points) than the Kirin 950. good stuff

kirin 950 is a beast
but emiui is ugly and not very smooth it is ****
we need stock based google rom like cm:laugh:
I got a 94500 score with AL10 device but L29 B162 firmware. I'm not sure the antutu score clearly shows how quick this phone is. I am eager to see it opening same apps with S7 and G5. My score was just with performance mode @ battery. @rowihel2012 "Performance mod with performance with kernel " with performance mod i guess you mean the battery setting. The other part with kernel what exactly do you mean? Thank you.
download and install trickster mod, there u can change the cpu governor under general settings to performance
it also helps u save battery when changing it to powersave. thats what i do while sticking to smart battery profile

i cant believe antutu developers anymore
look at iphone 6s and even iphone 6 in the previous antutu
i mean version 5
you can clearly see those junks fall behind even galaxy s6
and look at them now in version 6
.........
After that you want from me to believe what i saw in the new version
........
Ok then please keep up with me and lets have a nerds conversation ....
first ... open your mind ... and let us see what hardware that mate 8 has
its four cortex a72 and four cortex a53 and the last mali gpu model
and what you have got is just 90k scores
while HTC M9 has more less power CPU which is
cortex 57 and cortex 53
even it has less power GPU which is
adreno 430
all of those more less power hardware
has got score more than 110k in the antutu
comeon guys give me a break from this junk benchmark

i dont believe their website either
what i believe is what i saw
a lot of people with m9 got 110k like this man here
youtu.be /LADBMwHJRsc
also dont deny differences between apple product scores in version 5 and version 6
also .... why is snapdragon 810 has more scores than kirin 950
because kirin is far superior than snapdragon 810
We already discussed here on XDA about the 950 overall chip performance score.
While the pure processor performance is on par with 820 and Exynos, what actually impairs the overall score is the GPU performance which is 1/3 of the 820's, half of the Exynos's and about 2/3 of the old 810's.
the one week boint for the 950 is the gpu
but working great with all games
